Complaint regarding Camouflage Clothing from a Daywalker...
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to RangaRage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Either this is the work of a truly world-class troll, or this might be one of the more unintentionally funny threads I've ever stumbled across. Either way, I enjoyed the laughs I got out of this. OP, for what it's worth, it seems there will indeed be lootable hats/helmets in the Standalone if that will ease your pain. Seriously though, there is a perfectly sensible way around the problem that you are simply choosing not to take for roleplay reasons. That's your decision, and I don't really see where the problem is - there's a fix, you can take it any time you like. :) -
How to play music through your mic?

I always tend to look at things like this in the following way: Anyone intelligent enough to come up with an original and funny way of implementing this in-game (rather than just acting like an irritating tool) is going to be smart enough to know that they can find what they need via Google. -
Looking to make a new gaming rig for DayZ; Need suggestions
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Shrapnell's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then add more cowbell. Two bits of advice people don't seem to give enough - don't scrimp *too much* on the power supply or the case - they're two hugely important components, and you can get cheapo D-luxx versions for relatively small sums, but in the long run you'll be hurting your performance and wallet. Just spend a little extra money and get some decent, well-reviewed ones - they don't cost all that much more, and you won't regret it. -
Stupid brother...
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to theodorkk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You know, I'd probably have slightly more respect for someone who actually had the balls to be upfront and say 'yeah, I downloaded a hack, I regret it hugely, and I apologise for doing it' than someone who tries to distance themselves from any kind of responsibility by claiming it was their 'brother'. If you're going to ask for help from the very community you were trying to cheat against by hacking in the first place, the very least you could do is be upfront and apologise like a decent human being. -

Target Practice (DayZ) replied to laughisback's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Right, so let me get this straight... One of your admins abused power, but because he only did it once, that's okay? And you can see what happens and take action, but are choosing not to do anything other than restrict a few of the commands? I'm genuinely trying to get my head around the fact that you seem to be okay with the fact that someone you trust with the reputation of your server has effectively done the same thing as a hacker (albeit with 'legitimate' tools you gave him for other purposes) and has been caught on video doing so. Almost any other server out there, that guy isn't just demoted, he's freaking banned. Yeah' date=' I mean, if you really want to go after someone for admin abuse, you should totally come up with more than indisputable video proof of them doing it. Seriously, I mean what does [i']that prove, right? -

I think you're misunderstanding people's anger. They're not angry because the admins HAVE the power, they angry because your admins have been recorded blatantly ABUSING that power. It's your site, your server and your rules, but for me, that admin has just breached the trust you placed in him, and more importantly the users who expect him to run your servers fairly and impartially, and whilst your loyalty to your staff is admirable, I don't see how he can continue to be allowed a position of such trust. But hey, that's just me, and as I said above, I admire your loyalty to your staff. I only hope you don't come to regret it. -

Wow. What a shitty, shitty way to run your server. Well, let's see if anyone from TLM comes to try and justify their actions. -

Friendly/Surrender signal, alternative to Q/E and lowering your weapon.
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Dancing.Russian.Man's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Agreed with this - the current options are too limited and either leave one player completely defenceless without a weapon of any kind or leave the other player vulnerable to a surprise attack when the weapon is suddenly raised. Some kind of middle ground where the player can hold their gun at arm's length but retain movement would be ideal. -

Target Practice (DayZ) replied to zombiekiller777's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
Sorry buddy, but you can't claim your 'grammar is fine' in one breath and then use 'every1' in the next. Either way, that's not the real issue here. The problem is that you seem to want a new player as a 'pet' almost. They're not allowed to use your sniper rifles 'because they're for you and your friend'?! What the hell, man? If I may be so bold as to offer you some advice, you may find people less resistant to your 'offer' if you treat new players as equals rather than someone to be looked down upon and told what to do. And also stop referring to them as 'bambis'. Even if it's not intended as an insult, it does have slightly negative connotations. Just some friendly advice. ;) -

Target Practice (DayZ) replied to zombiekiller777's topic in Clan / Group Recruitment
With all the love in the world, I would suggest that any new players (aka 'Bambis') reading this post think long and hard before deciding if they want the early part of their experience in DayZ to be spent in the company of folks like the threadstarter. There are plenty of people out there who are only to happy to help you out and see you through that tough but exciting first week, with the key difference being that most of them will allow you to play the way YOU want to play rather than expecting you to conform to their self-imposed rules. They also might actually treat you as an equal rather than a second-class player who's only allowed to play with the weapons they don't want for themselves. You know, if you're really lucky. ;) -
Thought id build my own PC...
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to The Shadow's topic in Technology/Programming
Personally, my reason for suggesting 8GB of RAM over 16GB is that for MOST current games, 8GB is more than enough. Like most things, there's always exceptions, but in the majority of cases, 8GB of decent RAM is going to keep you the right side of the 'recommended requirements' box for some time. In addition to that, when the time DOES come to upgrade, it's one of the cheapest and easiest upgrades there is - I don't profess to be an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but even I've worked out how to install a couple of sticks of RAM, and it's one of the few upgrades I'd feel comfortable doing myself. Sure, in an ideal world, we'd all have 32GB of RAM, but the reality is that for 95% of us, cost is a factor when we build a PC, and whilst it's always a good idea to futureproof as much as possible, there are certain areas where you have to weigh up the benefits against the cost. Having said all that, if OP is planning on doing a lot of video editing or something else that chews a lot of memory, 16GB is perfectly justifiable and probably out-and-out recommended. -

Target Practice (DayZ) replied to The Shadow's topic in Technology/Programming
Might I ask, what will you be using the PC for? Unless you're planning on doing a lot of video/photo editing, 8GB of RAM is likely to be more than enough for the foreseeable future gaming-wise, and that extra few dollars/pounds/pesos/bottlecaps could be spent on upgrading a more key component like your graphics card. Also, why have you gone for watercooling? Generally that's only a sensible choice if you're overclocking, which it doesn't seem like you're going to be doing. Once again, you could be better spending that money elsewhere in your rig. Finally, The Coolermaster Elite is an okay-ish case, but I think a good case is one of the most underrated components in a gaming rig - a well-designed and spacious case can do wonders for your temps. It seems silly to spend hundreds of [currency of choice] on your graphics card and processor and everything and then cram it all into a tiny case, but people keep on doing it. Seriously - for the sake of another 20-30 [currency of choice], look at upgrading your case a little - it can make a big difference. -

Please don't add dogs and stuff like that. I don't mind a new vehicle here and there, that's all nice variety, but when servers start adding their own features outside DayZ's core functionality, that's when I start to lose interest. There are hundreds of crappy servers out there with OMG DOGS, 500 HELIS, CARE PACKAGES, START WITH AS50 and so on, and most of them are empty. I love the BB servers because they're DayZ the way DayZ is meant to be played - nothing added, nothing taken away, and a great community to play with. At the end of the day, it's your server and you're free to do with it what you will, but I really hope you reconsider that particular addition. -
DayZ: Origins (RELEASED)
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to spaggiari's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah, I'm finding this in places too - particularly crash sites and fire stations. Another 'problem' is that often I can go to a loot spawn point (let's say a fire station), check it, come out, spend 10 minutes searching nearby buildings and then come back to find that it's spawned some new stuff. -
The issue with the M203 is that they're not exactly common, and even if you do manage to find one, the flares aren't exactly plentiful either. It's not really a practical solution you can rely on, more of a handy addition to the m16 if you're lucky enough to find it.

So, I don't know if it's been confirmed one way or the other yet, but I would assume that the standalone is at least moderately unlikely to have a global/side chat feature in it, so how will players be able to contact each other in-game? As it currently stands, there isn't really any way of doing that unless you happen to stumble across someone who's close enough to Direct Chat to. With Rocket having gone on record (I believe) in saying that he wants to encourage interaction between players more in the standalone, finding ways of communicating with them is going to be something that needs addressing sooner rather than later, as there are going to be kinks that need ironing out. To my mind, there are certainly two leading contenders for inclusion, and those are Flares and Radios. FLARES: Be it handheld flares, flare guns or weapon-launched flares, the suggestions forum has seen a ton of suggestions for flares to be included, and there generally seems to be relatively little opposition to the idea. Flares are an excellent - if imprecise - way of alerting people to your position. They're unlikely to be too uncommon, seeing how Chernarus is largely surrounded by water, and wouldn't require anything other than simply finding them and keeping them in your pocket until needed. There's hundreds of threads discussing them, so there's not too much point going into any more detail than that right now. RADIOS: Once again, a very popular suggestion, and one that doesn't have *too* much opposition. The way I personally see radios working is not as a team-based communication device, as it's going to be near-impossible to convince people not to just use Teamspeak or Skype or similar, but as an in-game equivalent to side chat. They can easily be switched on and off for those that don't want to listen to player banter. Batteries would be an issue, and would be a rather handy way of preventing - or at least inconveniencing - spammers, as there are unlikely to be too many folk so dedicated to spamming that they're willing to spend hours searching for and hoarding batteries just to rickroll the distress channel. Beyond those two, there have been mentions of 'bounty boards', 'signs' and a few other bits and pieces that could potentially become good ideas with some refinement. The reason for this thread is that I'd really like to see if we can get some kind of proper discussion and back-and-forth going about this, because it's going to become a truly MASSIVE part of the game for many, but at the moment there doesn't really seem to be much in the way of thought put into that side of things (although I'm sure it's on the list!). What are the biggest problems in enabling players to communicate long-distance? How do we solve them?

Let's talk about communication
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to Target Practice (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh yeah, there'll be a few (or perhaps more than a few) folks who use radios for roleplay or realism purposes, but the vast majority of folks will simply use Teamspeak if they're entering a game with pre-existing friends. Regards difficulty, I think it's certainly possible to achieve without needing to break that willing suspension of disbelief, and if indeed it can be done, then it would be crazy not to at least try it - there's plenty of scope for such a thing, and it actually seems to be something that a significant proportion of the playerbase would welcome rather than oppose. As for channels, I think it could actually tie in to the 'knowledge = power' discussion that has been banded about a few times in here - why not simply tie in real-life distress frequencies to the ones in-game? As an example, through my work, I happen to know that the marine-band VHF distress and calling frequency is 156.800Mhz, so if I put out a call on that frequency, I'm much more likely to be heard, as damn near every marine-band radio set out there has that channel tuned in as a default. Obviously in DayZ, we wouldn't be using marine-band radios, but you could simply swap that out for any spectrum/band you like. All you'd need to do is have a 50% chance that a spawned radio is preset to a known distress frequency and a 50% chance that it'll be set to a different, random frequency. That way, anyone with prior knowledge will have an advantage, but it doesn't preclude the dedicated newbie who's willing to experiment and learn from being able to use it either. EDIT: Also, many radios out there have a 'scan' ability now, so that they will automatically scan all known channels/frequencies and when they pick up a transmission on a channel, they will automatically switch to it. -

This one's been suggested loads of times, and general consensus is it's a pretty good idea.

Scripting Sorry guys
Target Practice (DayZ) replied to unnamedcreator123's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The DayZ forum team have nothing to do with game bans - those are handled by Battleye, who ban in waves - it's fairly likely that they've already caught you and you'll be banned when they get round to the next wave. It's unlikely that bans will be carried across into the Standalone, but it's possible, I guess. Still, though - at least have the balls to admit you did it rather than blaming it on your brother. Come on, man - if you're truly sorry you'll accept responsibility for your actions rather than hiding behind the actions of 'someone else'. -
