Dumb Ways to Die in Day Z (featuring Balota Buddies)

    Mag-fucking-nificent. All my beans.
  2. You can just define your own keys by going into options -> controls... why does no-one ever actually think to do that?

I Formally Challenge Dean 'Rocket' Hall To A Duel

See, this is the problem with trolls - the first time it was vaguely amusing and well done. Now it's just 'done'. New material, please.

Dayz SA to be a failure

For those who don't have time to read the initial post, allow me to summarise: "I don't like a specific design decision, so the whole game is going to be a failure".

    Rocket: Console version almost certain

Indeed. In fact, I believe that Microsoft had something in place for a long time that meant that developers/publishers HAD to charge for all DLC above a certain size. I seem to remember this being an issue with the DLC for the original Left 4 Dead, as Valve wanted to give it away free, but Microsoft wouldn't let them. I don't know if that's still in place, mind.

    Rocket: Console version almost certain

Inb4 legions of idiotic "OMFG ALL CONSOLE PLAYERS ARE KIDZ AND CONSOLE SUX!!!111!! LOL" type posts. Now, on-topic, I have no problem with this at all. DayZ is a fantastic game, and there's no technical reason why it wouldn't be possible on one of the new-generation consoles. I'm not convinced the hardware in the current generation (particularly the 360) is enough to do DayZ justice. I can't imagine any situation where the console version is going to delay the PC version, especially seeing as the PC version seems to be approaching completion (or at least the Alpha stage), and to the best of my knowledge, the ARMA/ToH engine hasn't been remotely designed for consoles and as such would require reasonably extensive converting/optimising. As far as the controls issue goes, there's actually not all that much to worry about when you think about it. Remember, even the current generation gamepads have 16 buttons on them (not including the thumbsticks, which will be used to control movement/camera). Off the top of my head, I'm not sure I use that many buttons regularly, and lesser-used functions can always be mapped to a sub-menu, much like the current mousewheel menu. Bottom line is, DayZ is a great game, and the more people that get to experience it, the better it is for everyone - opening it to consoles creates a whole new market for the BIS guys, which potentially means more cashflow, which potentially means they're able to expand and give us more awesome stuff like ARMA and DayZ. I don't really see how anyone can be against this for anything other than 'I want it to be PC-only because elitism/console kids iz douchebags lol'.

What to do after you have the best gear?

Judging by what I've seen, apparently you now go to the hill overlooking Cherno and snipe freshspawns. :P But yeah, at this point, you'll probably find the most fun in finding and helping out newer players. It's obviously risky, but risk is half the fun of DayZ. :)

    A New Myth

Yup. Mountain Dew is just rare, that's all. A lot of the lore about it has come from the community jokingly saying it has mysterious powers as a lot of people who find it tend to die shortly afterwards, hence a running joke that it's cursed. That's literally all there is to it.

    Is using teamspeak 'cheating'?

I use Teamspeak while I play with friends for convenience - even though it would be more 'realistic' to play without it and have to find my friends manually without any form of communication whatsoever, I wouldn't find that fun. I play DayZ to have fun, and being able to do so with friends increases that enjoyment, and at the moment, as there is currently no in-game way of communicating with them over long distance, I use Teamspeak to facilitate that. Does that make me a 'cheater'? No, I don't think it does. I'm not using it to give myself an unfair advantage, and even if I did, it's not like it's not a free program that absolutely anyone can download and use. The key argument here in my eyes is that dreaded 'realism' thing. DayZ has a fanatical following, and a section of those followers are folks who want the game to be utterly, hyper-realistic to the point ot essentially mirroring real life. For me, that's not a good thing. Sometimes to make a game enjoyable, slight concessions have to be made - in the movie industry, I believe it's called 'willing suspension of disbelief' - the audience know deep down that whatever's happening is implausible (if not outright impossible), but they let it slide because it's enjoyable. The problem is, the line is set at different places for different people, and a quick look in the 'Suggestions' forum will prove that far quicker than can with words - some people would quite happily see A-10s patrolling the skies and giant 'tank' zombies stalking the land. Others will fight tooth and nail to ensure that a broken bone is treated with more than just a shot of morphine because that simply isn't plausible in real life. The issue is finding a happy medium that doesn't mortally offend too many people. Someone is always going to complain that the game wasn't tailored specifically to their own personal desires, but the more people you can get to say 'meh, I can live with that', the better. Personally, I currently see the use of Teamspeak in that category - sure, I'd prefer to have an in-game equivalent, but I can accept the fact that DayZ is a game and that as such, there are going to be concessions made.

    Everyone kills me

Shooting on sight solves nothing and in fact makes the problem worse. Colekern got it right when he said that a lot of your deaths are simply from poor decisions that you'll learn from in the long run. There are always going to be untruatworthy players in DayZ, and most of us wouldn't have it any other way - it adds to the danger and fun. You just need time to develop that sense of when something's a trap and when it's not, and the more you play, the better that instinct becomes. Also, get the hell out of Cherno and Elektro. They're deathtraps - get inland as soon as possible and you'll find things considerably better.

    New account

No, you're definitely stupid. Your first thread had the information you needed, rendering this one utterly unnecessary. Also, if you don't want your new key *ahem* 'stolen', it's worth considering reformatting your HDD to be sure you got rid of whatever it was you downloaded in the first place.
  12. Target Practice (DayZ)

Got my CD key stolen, now what?

You've lied twice already, I see no reason to believe your sob story this time. Bottom line is, you downloaded hacks. There is NO legitimate reason to do that. Ever. Whilst you get some small credit for actually manning up and admitting it, you only did that because you tried to lie twice and got caught. If you want to play DayZ, it's time to re-purchase it, although I'd recommend formatting your hard drive first to make sure the keystealer is gone.

Got my CD key stolen, now what?

You know, when you link to someone else's account claiming it as your own, you should probably make sure that the person you're linking to doesn't have your profile on their friends list...

    Disregard, apparently I'm retarded.

Okay, so I have no idea where to put this thread, but this seemed like the most likely place. Basically, image tags are doing weird things for me. When I link to an image in my post using them, the image shows up fine in the WYSIWYG editor view, but once I actually submit the post or go to preview it, the post only displays a link to the image. I've checked, and the img tags are correct in the bbcode editing view, and I can't see any logical reason why this would be happening. It's entirely possible I'm slightly retarded and have missed something blindingly obvious, but this has been bugging me for a while now, and I just can't seem to find a logical explanation for what I'm doing wrong. I'm using Firefox if that helps diagnose anything other than my personal preference in browser. Thoughts/suggestions? This thread is redundant. Please feel free to mock me mercilessly for being criminally stupid.
  15. Target Practice (DayZ)

    Disregard, apparently I'm retarded.

*facepalm* - how the feck did I miss that? I even did a search to make sure someone else hadn't asked the question already. Welp, chalk another one up to me being a 'tard, I guess. :) Thanks, Vapordad.
  16. Target Practice (DayZ)

    Disregard, apparently I'm retarded.

I'm not entirely sure I've understood the question (sorry, it's been a long day and I'm slightly sleep deprived) - if you're asking if there are hyphens in the address of the image I'm linking to, I don't think so - I'm sure it's happened at least once on an address without them. If you're asking if I'm actually using the [.IMG] (minus the period of course) tags, then yeah, that's the issue - I'm using them, but they only seem to be working for me in the WYSIWYG editor view - once I actually submit the post, for some reason it reverts to a link, despite the fact that the [.IMG] tags are still there.

And just like that, I have a new internet hero. You have made my day, sir.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.6.1 Hotfix

People, you're asking questions that are already covered in the Changelog thread. Read that thread, then if your question isn't answered, ask here. The more time Razor and the guys have to spend answering questions that have been answered already, the less time they have to actually work on the mod. Do your bit to help the community by reading relevant threads before hitting that 'post reply' button. :)
  19. Jesus H Christ, people. It wasn't intended to cause offence. It was a lighthearted jab at the way people are inevitably going to overreact when the game doesn't land in June. Come on, let's all pretend just for a moment that we're big boys and girls and can understand that just because someone uses cutting oneself as a hypothetical extreme for the sake of a cheap gag that they're not actually trivializing self-harm. Are we really all that sensitive that we now need to start pre-emptively apologizing for something that hasn't even offended anyone yet? :-/
  20. If it's not released by 00:05 GMT on June 1st, I'm cutting myself. DO YOU WANT THAT ON YOUR CONSCIENCE, ROCKET? DO YOU? :P

    WHAT DA F...!?!? HACKER? CHEATER?

Yes, entirely possible, but once again, I'd ask why someone who would go to the trouble of giving himself godmode and the ability to teleport would simply continue running in a straight line while being shot at, and only THEN teleporting away once they were in the sea. Surely he'd either teleport as soon as you shot him the first time, or simply ignore you, knowing you can't hurt him (or kill you, I guess). The straight line thing and shooting but nothing happening sounds a lot like a fairly heavy case of lag/desync to me. I might well be wrong, god knows I've been wrong plenty of times before, but it doesn't make sense to me for that to be the work of a hacker.
  22. Target Practice (DayZ)

    WHAT DA F...!?!? HACKER? CHEATER?

It's possible that if he was just running in a straight line and went into the sea that it was just some particularly heavy desync. It seems unlikely that a hacker would go to the trouble and risk of using god mode just to go for a swim.
  23. Good point. Either way. TOTALLY THE SAME THING, HONEST.

    DayZ SA: Walking simulator

I just googled Prison Architect based solely on the fact it was the only one of those three I hadn't heard of and played already. Looks interesting, although $30 for an Alpha is a bit steep for me.
