Open your description.ext (in mission.pbo if you have a pbo, in MPmission/dayz_1.chernarus on server (not your computer) if using bliss) Edit the "loadScreen = "blah/blah/blah/dayz.paa" line to: "loadScreen ="yourImage.jpg" Save your new image in the same folder as description.ext Restart server FYI: your starting out with the right idea, use JPG..... GIF will not work. What type of database are you using? Which server pack? If you don't know, what server host do you use?

A lot of this depends on how you are going about adding the AI units into the game. If you are doing it via the mission.pbo, you should have somewhere where you have something that looks like the following: "BAF_Soldier_DDPM" createUnit [_unitpos, _aiGroup, "_aiunit=this;",0.6,"Private"]; If you are trying to add the units through the Arma map editor, I'm not completely sure that you can do that. instead look at creating a sqf script in your mission pbo to create and control the AI units. Also, try spawning in the su34 through your database. I was able to spawn in (and fly, quite the joy btw) a Su34 while no one was on my server, so it doesn't seem to be banned (at least on my version). Vehicles and skins are banned in the dayz_anim.pbo.... while you can edit this, if you do so you will need to distribute it to anyone that plays on your server. Unless you whitelist on your server, I wouldn't particularly recommend this (players with your dayz_anim can't play on other servers, players without your dayz_anim cannot play on yours). Is best to stay within the confines of the original dayz_anim, or install Rmod. You should be able to attach any AI unit to any vehicle, will require some work, the skin is irrelevant. I just said use BAF_Soldier_DDPM because I know that skin works (US_Soldier_EP1 also works BTW). -

Aigh, Times and places. My server is new with only 5 or 6 regulars lol. Slowly trying to build a community (having to switch hosts twice hasn't helped, but finally on a solid server)..... if only this post was a month or so down the road after we had (hopefully) built up a slightly larger player base. Don't have additional cities, instead have been slowly adding in military camps (which have a lot of barracks in them), but have NPC defending them (the largest has 40 barracks [yea I know, wow a lot] .... but also has 30 NPC with various weapons defending it)

I am pretty sure that RU_Soldier_Pilot is a banned skin in dayz_anim.pbo. If you try to add an AI with a banned skin, it will throw an error and will not create the unit. SU34 may also be banned. Try using BAF_Soldier_DDPM ..... don't think that one is banned. -

What about something along the lines of (untested) for displaying as a global message: _message = format["%1 is using cheat: %2", _player, _cheat]; [nil, nil, [_player, _message], { (_this select 0) globalChat (_this select1) }] call RE; The above is modified from the "server_playerHit.sqf" Might also try, for displaying as a "hint" .... ie white text at bottom of screen (think "you must be in a forrest and near a tree to cut wood"): _message = format["%1 is using cheat: %2", _player, _cheat]; [nil,nil,"per",rHINT,_message] call RE; -

You aren't running high pings on these servers? (Go to map, click players, then your name.... you will see ping). If you have a high ping, you can get kicked for that. What is the exact message you are getting?

Hm, correct me if I am wrong.... but dayz_server is run on the server side. dayz_mission is run on the client side. Thus a global variable set in dayz_server would be a global variable on the server. The variables on a server cannot be accessed by the client. Your dayz_mission is only going to be able to read global variable set on the client's computer (ie within dayz_mission). I'm pretty sure thats how it works, I've never tried scripting between _mission and _server (mainly because the above has always been an assumption of mine). Perhaps you need to rethink the structure of what you are trying to do? -
Maybe on certain times of the year? Maybe one week out of the month to simulate seasons? I like it.

They must have changed the database up some since I was on dayz.st What are the fields in the table? (FYI messages I believe is a table.... it is under the dayz.chernarus database right? ) What are the other tables you have a question about? I also use a modified bliss database.

Oh I know there is always going to be claims of admin abuse, I can deal with that lol. I just get very aggravated when everyone thinks that every admin should be bending over backwards to help them out at their beck and call. I don't mind helping people out (in the form of giving rides, blood, helping loot areas etc...... I'm not giving anyone shit lol). -
Will I be able to plant makrov rounds and grow them into an AS50 tree? Lol, sorry. All in all I can see where you are going..... on busier servers this would keep the amount of higher quality loot from spawning (people would be quick to pick up the military stuff). The problem you will have is that on slower servers, you would end up with a ton of as-50s around. I don't particularly like the idea myself.

You will typically have better luck on private servers..... usually fewer hackers (in general) on private (private servers have more control).

RL parachutes are very versatile. You can put then on your chest, your back, your leg.... or they could be installed as a part of the seat you are sitting in, in the aircraft (think ejector seats).

My tale of my struggle for find a server host that would meet my expectations. After playing dayz for sometime, decided I wanted to host my own server. Shouldn't be too hard, there is a ton of server hosts out there, right? After looking around the forums for awhile, find the "Start here, beginners guide for servers......." (props to Tremu1ant). Spent some time looking that over, decided to go ahead with the project.... and decided on Dayz.st as the host. Everyone seemed to be giving them great reviews, so I went for it. Well, after using dayz.st for awhile (not long really), I go to a point where I was not happy with the services they offered. It wasn't performance, I have to say that Dayz.st offers great performance, much better than what you would expect for what your paying, props to them there. It was more of the fact that I was limited in what I could do with the server. I was purchasing one instance of a dayz server, and there wasn't anything I could do other than that. I wanted more options, and understood that I might have to pay more for it. (let me be clear, I have nothing against dayz.st other than the lack of access you receive there. Their servers have incredible performance, and they have some really great customer service. If all you want to run is a single instance of dayz, and you ask me where to get a server from.... dayz.st is where I am pointing you (not an advertisement either btw)). After spending some time looking around, I found the vilayer was the only company I could find (at that time) that offered what I wanted. A VPS, something that I could edit and do pretty much anything I wanted on the server. If I wanted to completely screw the server over with editing, was my business. Great.... so here I am on my second server host. Everything works great the first couple of weeks. Happy "as all git out" with the server, seeing decent performance, the occasional dsync but hey, thats dayz right? I guess it was about the 3rd, maybe 4th week........................ lol All the sudden everyone on my server starts having massive dsync. It got to a point that even when there was only 2 or 3 people online, you would get "no message received" for about 15 - 20 seconds, every hour. Maybe I am picky, but that was too much in my book. My first reaction? "Oh boy, I did something that broke the server". So I start rolling back everything I had done.... end up with an absolute vanilla server... nothing added at all. Dsync is getting worse and worse..... what finally broke the camels back was when the dsync started causing server wide disconnects 3 to 4 times an hour. So I send a support ticket. Oh my. First response I get...... The VPS package they rented me is being discontinued, and I can move to different package (not vps, just a single instance rental like dayz.st).... or I would stay with my own. If I decided to move, I could purchase 2 x 40 slot instances for the price I am paying now. So I reply asking what kind of dedicated resources I would receive (under VPS I had 2 dedicated cores and 2gb of ram). Asking what the benefit of giving my VPS account up would be to me? As I am lossing the ability to run as many instances I wanted, and full control over the game, I thought there should be some benefit, right? Nope..... and I quote (is that against the rules? I will leave support personnel name out of it just in case) "Finally.. you asked what benefit there is to change...Well... the benefit of having a server... as we are discontinuing the current server you have and will no longer offer this service." Same person that told me I could keep my package mind you...... Anyway, my blood pressure is rising at this point.... anyway off goes another reply to the ticket.... asking him why he is giving me different answers in different replies.... and finally explaining ...... and I quote (myself) : "You must forgive me if I sound aggravated in this message, I am. I am getting different answers in different replies to this ticket. I also came to vilayer from another host because of the flexibility offered in your plans (ability to run multiple instances, at will, without need to contact someone else to do it for me, from the same plan already offered), and it appears this option is being taken away (at which point I begin to question whether I should be paying more for a service I could equal cheaper at another host)." Maybe I worded this wrong, maybe it was anger or whatever.... perhaps someone else can tell me if I overstepped the line as a customer.... I still (days later) do not think that I did. However, the individuals from vilayer must have thought that I did or something.... as their reply is: I quote: "You may keep the current setup if you like... We are telling you that we will not offer any... that means NOT ANY support for ANY issues if you wish to keep it. If the server crashes...if you can't get it to run... if anything has an issue... you are on your own. We assume no responsibility for any issues with this service as we have discontinued to offer it anymore." and later: "If you can find a better offer with the same performance i would say... You should think about taking it." 5 minutes later I was setting up a VDS server .... 3 cores (1 more than vilayer) ..... 3gb ram (1gb more than vilayer) for a grand total of 90 cents ($0.90, not a typo) more than what I was paying at vilayer. While I'm probably speaking too soon, but after 2 days now, not a single player has mentioned (even after I ask multiple times throughout the day) any dsync at all. Game running much smoother. Anyway..... moral of the story. Believe the reports about vilayer. -

Aye, I had considered hfb servers..... but they did not offer what I was looking for. As it stands now, the only limitations to the number of slots (or instances) I run is hardware, and I have pretty decent hardware on this one. Have complete access to the server which I run, its nice being able to remote into the server and change whatever you want, install whatever you want, and run whatever you want. If I want to run multiple dayz servers, or even multiple dayz servers, other games, a web server, ftp server, or whatever else I dream up..... i can. A little more expensive ($52 a month) I agree.... but I like the flexibility. -

Um.... what? Are you talking about the blue markers that only appear on easy server (or recruit or whatever the setting is called, been awhile sorry). Or are you talking about the ones that look like you drew an X on the map? I don't see how drawing an x on the map enables you to run straight to it? You also titled this part 1 .... its part 2 =) -

What kind of rewards? What kind of reward would really happen in a situation like this? Perhaps it would be better to stick with "the player getting saved should reward you, maybe some beans?" To many artificial incentives in the game is going to take away from what this game is. firestations shouldnt give the loot they give now. Exactly how many firestations in the world are actually going to have guns in them? Not many (especially not the kind of guns you see in this game). I agree on the police stations, should be police stations spawning the loot that firestations spawn now. Maybe firestations could spawn some sort of big truck, some cloths, axes, some medical stuff, and maybe some food stuffs.
