rocket: where is 1.7.2.5?!
cyanyde replied to mythTECH (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"When it's done." -
Next time, you can cheat by enabling "auto-hover" and then use z to lower the throttle until you reach the ground. If you land too hard, you can do damage or even still crash, but it definitely helps make landings go smoother. ;)

Faith in the community restored!! .........well, almost
cyanyde replied to fearz0r's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wow, all those players in one spot and they're not killing eachother.. Awesome! That just goes to show you that there's still a hope for this commun.. oh damn, never mind. :( lol nice video. :) -
Pressing f with the gun selected should show the ammo count at the top right corner of the screen. If it says something else: flares, can etc.. keep hitting f until it shows your ammo for the gun. If it's not that, then yeah, try dropping it and picking it up again. Be careful where you drop it though, it's easy to lose stuff in high grass. :P

Stop fixing minor issues or call it 'BETA' !
cyanyde replied to L0G!N (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
tl;dr lol just kidding. I agree with a lot of what the OP said, but not everything. The way that Rocket is testing this is a little hard for us to understand, but that's not what matters, as long as he understands what he's doing, then we're good. He seems to have a clear idea of what he wants to achieve, and he definitely has the tester base to make it happen, as long as he doesn't listen to the people who are just here to play a zombie infested death match on an un-finished mod. I actually said something in another thread that's somewhat relevant here.. I hate to quote myself, but it's appropriate in this discussion: here's the context, if anyone cares to read it: http://dayzmod.com/f...180#entry508804 Anyway, that said, I disagree about calling this a beta.. as mentioned before, I doubt that this particular instance of the mod will ever reach a finished state. It will most likely be a continuous testing ground for new features in the finished version, but that will be the standalone game, and that *will* be because of the efforts put into testing this alpha. -
Yeah I totally agree.. actually that was a simple attempt at some "intelligent trolling" ;) The cool thing about this mod is that one may choose to play it however they want. That said, what I meant by what I said was that instead of testing an alpha build of a potential framework for a standalone game, some people play it as if it was already the standalone game that we all want to play. I'm pretty sick of people complaining that "this mod is dying" when it hasn't even really started to "live" yet. Cool thing is, I don't think Rocket really cares about how big the player base is, because he knows that no matter what he does to make the mod more difficult to survive in, or how hard he makes it for new players to get involved with, or even how hard it is to install, he knows that he will still have a highly passionate and dedicated group of players who *do* understand how it's meant to be *tested*, and will provide him with the feedback he needs to properly improve the basis that he has. The thing is, the players who quit now are the ones that we really don't need quite yet anyway. The only major mistake that Rocket has made so far was to give it such a cool and catchy name. Some of the people who try it now and hate it because it's not finished, will avoid it like the plague when it's finally been released as a retail game, because they played it before it was really meant to be played in the way that they want to play it.

The mod isn't failing. People are failing to play the mod properly. ;)

All your hacking problems are due to this and NOT the DayZ dev team....
cyanyde replied to Dirty Rotten Scoundrel's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If we used punkbuster, there would still be hacks, and people would still complain about PB. Also, there are plenty of Steam game hacks, VAC isn't perfect either. There is always someone smart enough to figure out the system in use, and always lame little script kiddies dumb enough to think they're hackers when they download the hacks.. unfortunately people will always do whatever they can to ruin the fun for people who just want to play the game. The engine was intentionally left open for modding and scripting, and if it weren't, we wouldn't have DayZ because Rocket wouldn't have been able to even start building it. BE does a pretty good job with catching the scripts and hacks, you guys need to understand what you're saying before posting stuff like this. Don't blame the game devs, don't blame the people who are trying to help. (aka Battle Eye devs) blame the losers who spend all their time finding exploits and use their coding skills to create hacks and then release them to the internet for the losers who can't code but use the hacks to feel cool.. It doesn't matter what anti-cheat measures are used, there will always be hacks no matter what game you're playing. And honestly, I've seen VAC and Punkbuster games that are worse than Arma 2 ever was. But hey, I guess we gotta blame someone! -
There are so many of these threads.. we need a "missed connections" section on the forums. :P

HAcker just wiped out us 1586 10 MINUTES AGO
cyanyde replied to SCHOLAR's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oops, I'm sorry. I came in here hoping for some intelligent conversation, my bad. Seems any thread with the word "hacker" in the title draws all sorts of retard. :P -
Good attitude, have some beans to make up for what you lost.. :beans: If more people understood this simple fact, we wouldn't have nearly as many whiners on the forums.. ;)

Yup, I actually wondered why I never found full whiskey bottles when there's empty ones *everywhere* I would love to be able to hike up to Green Mountain and get drunk and yell at the ghosts and goblins. DO IT! :) Temporary morphine substitute with some reasonable vision blurring/shaking when aiming. It would be annoying, but a fair tradeoff not to have to crawl to a hospital. Whiskey should spawn everywhere that the empty bottles do and last maybe a half hour or less..

Laptop for Arma2/DayZ, Will these specs work?
cyanyde replied to Vintovka98's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yup, it will work.. maybe even better than low. I play on my i3 with 4gb ram on lowest, and I get around 20fps most of the time. There are some config changes that will help, most of which you can find on the forums, but considering that is about twice as powerful as my laptop, it should work just fine. Let me know if you need help finding the config threads.. there are some pretty good ones for arma2, which will work for DayZ. -
Call me DayZ (Call me Maybe parody by Jackfrags)
cyanyde replied to Leafe's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
My stepkids can't get enough of this.. it was funny the first few times, now they want to play it constantly. D: -
So what do you think is the stupidest thing about this game that you have seen.
cyanyde replied to alsparagus's topic in New Player Discussion
People who play this like it was a fully finished game and rage when they hit bugs caused by the fact that it's not even in beta stage yet. ;) -
To the guy with all the guns in the car: you don't have matches.. how do you cook meat? :o
-
This will end badly.. but I'm down. ;)

Nice! Looking forward to testing this. :)

Noobs getting sniped in cherno/elektro is not as bad as some people think
cyanyde replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
Anyone know if there's a map with the known sniper hotspots? If I got my hands on one, I know I would make it a personal mission to hunt and kill the bastards. Someone should make one. ;) -
I found a site with a bunch of scripts and other hacks, would reporting the site to the DayZ devs help to counter some of these? (No, I'm not posting the site publicly and no I don't use or condone hacks.. I know how to do it, but I hate cheaters with a passion..) Also, can we stop calling them hackers? They're not. They're script kiddies that google for hacks and think it makes them cool.

My favourite gun is the FN FAL (the iron sight one), but I choose the hatchet for my answer to the question. :)
-
You get beans for the stories, and for the suggestions. As for your ideas, I like most of them.. throwing knives and poison darts not so much because it seems a little excessive, I don't think there needs to be too many silent weapons.. I prefer the hatchet/sidearm approach myself, but the longbow could definitely be cool. I really want to be able to use the hunting knife for melee, imo it should take the place of the crowbar and use the sidearm slot. Climbing trees could be interesting, I sort of worry about the falling out/glitching into the tree possibilties though. D: I'm also a big fan of the stealth/hatchet gameplay myself btw.. glad to hear there are others out there challenging themselves like this. It's fun, isn't it? ;)

I've been playing this for over a month, got over 150 hours, also started playing Arma 2 on occasion which I never would have done, if I didn't want to play DayZ.. It's the most enjoyable and unique game/mod whatever I've played in a few years.. and I can't wait to see where it goes. You may find it hard to deal with the fact that it's an Alpha, that's ok, come back when it's in beta, or perhaps wait for the finished version of the stand alone game.. you'll find it much easier to enjoy when the "testing phase" is over-with. As I mentioned in other posts, I for one am along for the long haul and I love having a say in the development of this game. As for the "you didn't pay for the mod you dumb ass" comments.. I'm pretty sure the point has been made. You guys seriously need to stop trolling trolls and go play the damn game! :P
