I too would like to be able to use a second character, but I can see how it wouldn't work, as too many people would abuse it. My reason for wanting it is simply for when I don't want to play with the stress of using my main, but I want to head down the coast line helping newbs or something. There is no way I would do that with a 2-3+ day character though.. it's basically committing suicide, if you're wearing a Ghillie suit or a top-tier backpack. :( I guess it's technically what tents are for, but I still don't trust them enough to leave my primary gear in one.. *maybe* a second kit at the most, more likely a bit of surplus that I wouldn't miss if it was taken. (or lost to a bug/server reset)

I also mentioned this once, albeit in an update thread and not a stand-alone suggestion. It would be very cool if the switch was done automatically, when you right click "remove from toolbelt" As it stands right now, I usually have to drop my primary (hatchet takes up primary weapon slot, not sidearm currently) on the ground, which is terrifying in and of itself. Also, I would like to see a second use for the crowbar, much like the way a bloody hatchet can also be used to chop wood.. not sure what that use could be, but hey.. I'm not the game designer. ;) tl;dr It would be awesome if the hatchet and crowbar were both sidearm weapons, and when you switch between melee/sidearm, it was done automatically. :)

Except for a borderline cheatmap apparently. ;) LOL! Fair enough.. though to be fair, I know the map pretty well at this point, so I can usually decide where to go without too much trouble these days.. ;)

I agree that the way Rocket does his work on the mod is more for our benefit than his own. It would be very easy for him to lock us all out of the next build and simply work with his own internal team. Especially now that BI has given him the go ahead to use company resources to work on DayZ. Trust me, I've beta tested plenty of other mods and games and I've seen it happen before. (Blade Symphony is a great example of a game that was released to external testers/donators, and then went back into closed dev once they got their Kickstarter funding.) Also, the reason I posted the "I won" post up above was because I wanted to illustrate exactly how easy it is to start with nothing and have virtually *everything* in just a few hours of playing. Use a map like this one: http://dayzmap.info or this one: http://dayzdb.com/map Either of those will show you ideal loot spawns and where dear stands are.. it's actually better than the in-game map, unless you're on a "recruit" server where you can see your position on the map. (Even then it doesn't show deer stands or what buildings are enterable like the ones I linked above. Trust me.. you do not need *anything* when you spawn.. it is extremely easy to locate the things you need right from the start.
-
If you are on a "Recruit" level server, you will sometimes see an indicator on your map for where you are and which direction you are facing. Not only that, but if you can see yourself, sometimes other players will appear for short periods, these are the yellow coloured dots that are showen from time to time. As for the tent.. I've never seen the pack up tent option, but I think you may need to empty it first for that to show up. Not sure, but it would make sense. Finally, the m1911 is probably a better gun. It can one-hit zombies even in the chest, so no need to go for headshots, also ammo is fairly plentiful and you can even right-click on revolver ammo and repack it for the m1911. If you find another m1911, keep it! ;)

yup, I found 2 pairs by a crash site just north of Stary Sobor.. aamof, I've found 3-4 crash sites up there.. there seems to always be at least one pair there. First thing you should do when you spawn is locate the nearest dear stand.. if possible, hit a few of them along the backroads leading north. Then try to find a drugstore, you will almost always find plenty of food and most of the tools, plus bigger packs.. another good place to find guns is in a church, but churches and drugstores are dangerous.. Finally, if you find a smoke nade, hold onto it.. when you are ready to leave town, they can be invaluable because all of the zombies in the area will run to it when you throw it, allowing you to bolt the other way. Follow those tips, stay away from the coast, and *never* trust another player. You will be fine. If you try to head for Cherno or Elektro right away, be ready to respawn again very soon. :P

I think I won.. I started off with a fresh spawn, no guns, just painkillers and a bandage. Now I have an Alice pack full of food and drink. I have *everything* except for range finder and gps, well.. no vehicle either. I have a Sniper Rifle, an m1911 and a silenced MP and loads of ammo for all of them.. I have been to the Airfields, Stary and the other points of interest. Now I have been living in the wilderness for the past 2 days living off of hunting and refilling canteens at wells and lakes. Must say, it's very rewarding, but I'm really not sure what the point in playing anymore is, as I really don't have anymore goals to reach. Suggestions? :) (besides the obvious "head back to the coast and hunt bandits) ;P ps. yes I did this without server hopping. but if I can get all this stuff in 2 days from a fresh spawn, so can anyone else.
-
Dealing with it again now. I waited out the timer last time, wandered out into the wilderness and logged out to make dinner. Just logged back in and I'm laying in the middle of nowhere unconscious. No shock, no shots.. just.. randomly got the hourglass. :/ (Im just glad it's not the middle of Electro or something stupid :p

Do zeds agro on me while I am screaming and stuff, or am I invisible to them until I wake up? I'm not bleeding and over 10k blood, not sure why this would happen. :(
-
Just had the same thing happen when I switched servers due to the server admin saying he was shutting down. Went to another server and Unconscious. Boo. No bleeding, no shock, was "fairly" safe, but still happened. Hopefully I survive it, can zombies agro on me while I'm out, because I hear them walking around me. D:
-
Bear Traps huh? ... This won't end well.. D:
-
I play on a fairly low-end laptop and it's fine.. Granted, I have most of the settings set to low, but I rarely have any sort of slow-down/fps issues, unless it's server related. I'm confident that the new changes will make things even better! :)

Yeah I would love to see zeds do more investigating of noises. Throwing a can to draw them to the noise is a good start, but if I'm running behind a wall, the zombie shouldn't agro on me, it should come to see what made the noise.. Once it sees me, it should chase me, but there's no reason it should start chasing something that it hasn't even seen yet. As for current detection, I agree it's pretty good.. just needs some minor adjustments to make it more realistic. (imo)

Yeah, I started off friendly, but I've been killed and robbed too many times by too many people who said they were friendly. I won't shoot you if you're unarmed, but I tend to steer way clear of populated areas and if I see people in the town I'm passing, I'll probably watch them to try and gauge who they are.. I don't want to say that I will attack unprovoked *every* time, but there's definitely a better chance then before I got stabbed in the back 6757685 times. :P
-
I thought this could already happen, but I've never had the chance to try it. I could see a bullet going through one, or even two zeds, but there should definitely be some sort of friction working on the bullet to slow it down so that we couldn't take out 10 zombies all standing in a line. TF2 allows that to happen.. Shibby2142 has a video of him taking out a whole line of players.. that would just be lame, in this game.

Liberation! (Mechanic of reclaiming towns for Survivors)
cyanyde replied to Dreganius (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sounds cool to me.. It add more of a "Walking Dead" feel, which is a good thing in my mind. DOOO IT! :) (But no to disabling weapons and stuff.. it should never lose the danger factor, but it should feel safer than an un-controlled area.) -
It would be cool to be able to use the gun you have equipped. BF3 allows this, just need to have a "seat" in the heli without a mounted gun. Can't argue with this.. I wish I could just put a bunch of nails into a piece of wood and use it for melee.. Again, I completely agree with this. I can't count how many times I've wanted to thrrow a rope over a wall or up a steep incline.. it would add a whole new dimension to the game as a whole. (imo) Shovel is another thing that would add to the game imo. Being able to hide my loot or even just hit zeds with it would rock. Also have to choose between hatchet or shovel so either firewood or trench/hiding loot. Rain affects your body temperature which in turn affects your health. I definitely think the more enviromental concerns we have the better.. but you have to remember that sometimes gameplay is more important than realism. Still.. I would like to see more health effects along the lines of hunger, thirst and temperature. It almost makes me feel like I'm playing "The Sims: Survival Edition" :p you're starting to lose me here.. you mean lightning? 10% is pretty high and it would be really annoying to just die for no reason. (imo) Yup. That would be cool. :) Only if it ends up that they caused the Zombie outbreak in the first place.. lol. :P Again, anything that cripples the player because of something beyond their control would be annoying. It's bad enough that our vision is degraded when we are low on blood. This is another interesting idea, but I have to think about how it would affect gameplay. I already hate the idea of having a broken leg, but I accept it as a mechanic of the game that I have to avoid. Broken arms would be "realistic" but do you really want even more issues when you bump into another player by mistake? :p Nice ideas.. Keep 'em coming, the more the better! :)

I feel the same way about this. It's frustrating to clear out an area, only to be mauled by a hoard that spawned 5 seconds after I finish clearing out where I'm at. Also zeds seem to spawn right in front of me at times.. it's jarring because it completely removes the need to scan and gain intel before moving into an area. Please make it so if we choose to, we can hold our own little slice of Chernarus. :) As for the "not seeing you, but heading in your direction thing.. I'm pretty sure that's because they are drawn to sounds as well.. (eating, drinking, applying bandage etc all draw zeds towards you) I would love it if this was further expanded upon.

I agree with Zwans completely! It's funny how my opinion can change, the more I play this mod. When I first heard that we were going to spawn without weapons, I hated the idea and stayed with 1.7.0 for awhile.. (I was also having issues with running the beta through steam but it's not the point) When I did finally get my update working, I had weapons still because I hadn't died. When I did end up getting killed and had to respawn, I was worried that I wouldn't have as much fun or whatever without my Makorov.. guess what, I did! It was even more intense because I had to think more.. I couldn't just bolt North the Airfield, I had to hunt out deer stands and barns to try and gear up.. it added a really cool aspect to the game. My point is, the more you play the mod, the more you adapt to the way the game is as it stands. It's not a game that you can expect to be what you want it to be, it's survival, but once you do figure out how to survive, it can become whatever you what you want it to. Once you've survived a raid on the airfield, you can then decide to build a helicopter, take over and defend a church, or even just turn to murder and wander around hunting other players for kicks and beans.. the problem is, one mistake and you're dead. It's both a serious penalty and a really good reason to pay attention to everything that is going on around you. In terms of what has been said in this thread, the bandit situation is a normal aspect of the experience. If you read the interview on PCGamer (http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/22/day-z-arma-3-interview-on-left-4-dead-skyrim-player-emotion-and-in-game-disease/?ns_campaign=article-feed&ns_mchannel=ref&ns_source=steam&ns_linkname=0&ns_fee=0), Rocket explains how the bandits evolved in the first place.. he has tried countering them with things like infection, but it ended up being a welcome aspect to the game.. it might be frustrating, but you learn from every death, and you make sure not to make the same mistake again. It's not only the best "zombie experience" that I've ever played, it's the best multiplayer game I've ever played, and it's free! The tl;dr is, don't expect this game to be what you want it to without putting something into it first.. The point is *not* to shoot, because if you do, someone or something else might hear it.. but you have to decide for yourself when it's ok to do that.. either that or use a silent weapon. ;) wow, this got way longer than I expected, but I'm also passionate about what this game is becoming. I bet 100 cans of beans that Arma 3 has a built in version of DayZ which is fully supported by BI.. it's up to *us* to make sure it stays awesome and unique while it is in the alpha and beta stages..

I'm extremely happy with the way things are now. I would love to see zombies investigate noise instead of being agro'd on me when I make noise, and there are a few other minor "mood" things that I would like to see, but the way things are now is a nice start. The main things bothering me right now are when I try to put something in my bag when I don't have enough room, dropping all my ammo when I pick up a belt item and having to switch out my gun/hatchet instead of my gun moving to the belt when I switch to my hatchet/crowbar. Other than that, things are really progressing nicely! Loving the changes, keep up the amazing work Rocket! :D

Can we fix backpacks eating stuff when not enough room please? Also, I also drop all my ammo when I pick up a tool belt item. (Flashlight, map, matches etc) suggestion: Make the number of slots need show up when I mouse over anything that takes more than one slot. As for the fog/sound thing. I say make noise slightly louder, but reduce vis (of course) Oh and please stop making zombies spawn in barns. I had to pass up 2 in a row before I could find one without zeds. Kinda hard to pick up that gun when the 2 zombies hanging in the barn try to eat me when I go for the rifle.. not fair! :P
