Hatchets as a secondary weapon (pistol slot)
cyanyde replied to Ozast's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yup, I have mentioned this a few times. Right now, if I want to use the hatchet, I have to either drop my primary, or put it in my pack. I wouldn't be so hesitant to do either of those things, if it weren't so easy to lose them by either method. I imagine this is something Rocket and the other devs are considering/aware of, but atm I either have to bite the bullet and shoot my weapon, or risk losing my primary for one or two stealth kills.. +1337 for this idea. :) -
Any chance we could get some us servers to update to 1.7.2.1? They're all Euro and Uk atm, and I live in Canada. :(

Players should be recognizable as friendly or not friendly
cyanyde replied to Brickle (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm guessing you only started playing in the last few weeks because this has already been in-game. It's nice knowing who you can trust or who you can't, but it takes away from the "stress" when you immediately know you need to shoot someone in the face. I'm not saying I don't like the idea.. I just wanted to point out that it's been done already and removed for whatever reason. I'm sure something will be done at some point.. tptb are looking for a way to deal with this, but so far they've not been happy with the attempts made. (or at least that's what I gather from reading interviews and changelogs/forum posts) -
I had my flame-proof gear on when I read the title of this thread, but then I read the OP and it was well thought out and worthwhile information. I guess if I had to suggest anything, it would be not to make such a troll-bait title next time, but other than that, good post. :) I will point out the fact that a lot of these are commonly brought up issues, but I do agree with you on the majority of your points. 1. Yeah zombie spawns are a bit erratic, it could do with some work, but I'm pretty sure it's being worked on. Still, it doesn't hurt to mention it again. 2. Loot is definitely inconsistant. I've seen 3-4 watches in one supermarket.. food and soda are waaaaay too common, and so are some of the supposedly rare items such as maps and matches, while stuff that should be more available isn't. (I don't think I've ever seen an assault pack or a Coyote *backpack* in over 100+ hours in this mod, while Alice and Czech packs are pretty common) 3. Zombies are a minor threat compared to players.. give them x-ray/laser vision and let's see how many people pvp then. (just kidding) tl;dr nice post, shitty topic. :) edit: Oh and as for starting with a hatchet.. I don't have a problem with this, it *would* be realistic and give starting players a better chance, but the reason for starting with nothing but a bandage is to test how it works out. I'm sure the starting gear will change a few more times before it's finalized.

I played awhile this morning and didn't notice any of the issues with my zombie kill count or with skinning animals. I killed a chicken and got a raw meat, every zombie I killed counted on the counter, and my loading was almost fine. I did get stuck at loading at one point and had to kill the process to escape, but when I tried again I got in no problem. I did get hit at one point and started bleeding, which would be normal except there were no visible zeds at the time, though I did have a pretty high ping, so it could have been related to that. Aside from that, I also found zeds agro from much further away than in 1.7.1.5, I was paying attention to my visibility at the time though and it was pretty high, so it made sense at least. It was fairly easy to lose them though. At one point, I led a train of 5-10 zombies into a barn and managed to lose them all without any worries, so the line of sight thing is working pretty well. As for zeds running indoors, didn't happen for me.. they still slow to a walk when they hit the threshold of the building.. thank god! :P Anyway, I'm extremely happy with where this is headed. You guys are doing a fantastic job! :)

I tried 1.7.2.1 last night, no problems loading, spawned with all my stuff. Zombies seemed easier to agro, but it's realistic this way. Still lots of barbedwire around but that won't change unless it's removed. All in all it seems to be much better than 1.7.1.5 and the loading is more stable than 1.7.2 Going to try and jump on another server right now.. will report more when I'm done. (or if I can't get in)
-
Sweet! :) Trust me, the 1.7.2.1 build is *awesome* been playing for awhile now. So far, when you click stuff to loot it, there's no more lag so it moves to your inventory instantly. Loading is smoother and faster, fps is waaaay better. I even had a shitty ping because I live in Canada and I was playing on a UK server, and it was *still* better than I usually get on us servers! Best update yet! :D

I'm talking about the arma 2 beta... you need to download this: ftp://downloads.bistudio.com/arma2.com/update/beta/ARMA2_OA_Build_94700.zip
-
Did you update the beta? most of the 1.7.2.1 servers are running ARMA2_OA_Build_94700 now. We've got a few servers going, but we need more people
-
Guys, update to 1.7.2.1 and come play with us! No more loading issues, no more lost gear! We need more people testing this! Get in here!! :) http://cdn.armafiles.info/experimental/AddOns_v1.7.2.1.rar

Been playing the 1.7.2.1 update for the past half hour or so.. it's been awesome! :) I noticed the zombies seem to be *extremely* easy to agro (even at night which is the time of the server I'm on) But it's understandable, and it's not like they're hard to lose. I've definitely got better fps and loading times seem quicker. Just need to update my beta patch so I can play with the updated servers.
-
Sorry you lost your stuff.. My point was that once the loading/spawning hiccups passed, I was able to play normally. I'm sorry you lost your gear but I never assumed anything about anyone else, so your hostility is unwarranted. If you paid attention, you'd know that the servers were being smashed with all the people trying to play the update.. I was simply trying to point out that once you actually get into a server, things are actually quite good. No need to be a douche about it. ;)
-
Maybe, I'll admit that I don't like starting over either, but I understand that right now the point is reporting bugs and trusting the dev team, not complaining because I lost my Ghillie suit in an update that improved almost everything about the game. There are still issues, I'm not trying to say that the game is perfect yet.. I just can't help but notice that the people who are complaining about losing gear, are the same people who are bragging about being bandits and being dicks in-game for no reason, other than just generally being dicks.. I love the fact that zombies are a background threat when compared to other players. But the guys that spawn camp the coast with sniper rifles and kill unarmed survivors aren't the same as the guy that shoots you because you pointed your gun at him.. hell, I would shoot you in that situation too. People need to stop playing like this mod has already gone gold, and focus on helping it get to that point.

I just figured out how to fix the pvp problem.. keep resetting the database with every update so all the whiny COD losers will quit playing. Then it will just be the people who actually care about the mod remaining and the problem will fix itself! :)
-
You guys seriously need to relax. Half of you haven't even tried to log in and the other half are still whining about losing gear. Get a grip. The update works fine, I spawned in the Cherno supermarket, swimming on the floor because I was wearing a Ghillie suit. Logged out, logged back in, spawned in debug plains. Guess what, I ran East for about 20 minutes and ended up in Zelenogorks minus a Ghillie suit, but I still have everything else, my performance is better and my game loads in about half the time it took in 1.7.1.5. The update is fine, it's the supposedly "leet" players who are afraid to lose their gear that's the problem. Guess what, if you're so "leet" you should be able to get your gear back in a matter of hours. I've done it, why can't you? Stop complaining every time there's an update, or just stick with the build that worked for you.. trust me. the real players who actually care about testing the mod won't miss you shooting at them every time they spawn anyway. I refuse to use the tired old "it's an alpha" argument.. instead how about this? It's a mod.. deal with it. :P tl;dr I can connect and play just fine. But I'm not afraid to lose my gear so I guess that's why I took the risk and did the things needed to get my build working. ps. love love love the new forums! :D

Should have done it' date=' DB seems pretty messi to me! And again, thanks for the good AND UNPAID WORK! [/quote'] agreed.. the nature of the update would suggest some of the issues are due to player records being corrupted from the update. For example, I spawned in my proper location the first time I was able to connect, *but* I was wearing a ghillie suit so I ended up swimming in the back room of the Cherno supermarket. I reconnected, instead of re-spawning as I probably should have done, so I got sent to the "debug wilderness" for my trouble. Granted I made it back to "civilization" with my gear intact, but I bet I could have avoided a half hour hike if the database had simply been reset. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I am scared to go close to zombies right now because I still have my stuff. :P press respawn ;) Screw that.. I'm about to raid Zelenogorsk and just shoot anything that runs at me with my AKM.. On the other hand, I'm perfectly ok with dying.. ;)

You wouldn't sound like someone bitching, unless you were going around demanding stuff from the developers, while at the exact same time they were working their asses off to fix it for you.. that would make you ungrateful. The way you sounded was like a new player who was curious about the new update and when it would be working. It's all in the delivery my friend. To answer your question, based on Rocket's post directly above yours, I would definitely expect it to be working in the next few hours, at least to some extent. It's a new patch, so there are bound to be issues, but that's why they call it an Alpha. :)
-
That's the kind of posts this thread is meant for, nice feedback! :) Nice to see some maturity in this thread, as opposed to the previous one. I've spent the past little while looking for servers where I get stuck at "creating character" and telling people in Group chat that they need to try other servers.. hopefully some have managed to get in. :)
-
Yes, I haven't witnessed it myself, but I've seen people complaining that it isn't fair, so it must be true! ;)
-
If you're stuck waiting for character to create, try another server.. Once you spawn into the debug "desert" run east for about 20 minutes, you'll find trees. Keep going awhile longer, you'll be at the west side of the map. Look at the clouds, they're going East. Follow them. ;) The players who are passionate about the mod would continue to play even if we spawned with 1000 blood, broken legs and bleeding out. I hope it doesn't happen, but if it did, we would manage to find a bandage and morphine, before working our way to a hospital for blood. As an added bonus, I bet we wouldn't have to worry about pvp so much either.. we'd probably work together to find weapons and bring our blood up.
-
So I made it back from the wilderness.. ended up near Zelenogorsk. lol Now I'm gonna play around with these zombies and see how much different the agro and stuff are. So far my performance has been fantatic.. and that's enough to make me happy right there! :) You guys (the dev team) have been amazing today, as always. Keep up the work! :)

I think I'll put up my tent and camp in the debug plains until the fix comes out.. So far it's just me and the pigs. :)
