That would make perfect sense, if there were servers doing the same. Thanks for the answer though. ;)

I'm confused about which beta to use today.. 95054? There's like 3 new ones since then, but that seems to be the most popular on the server list atm. Can a dev make a sticky post with the current supported beta version and keep it up to date, please? (I'm looking at you Ander..) ;)

I've been playing for about 2 months, and the biggest bag I've actually seen in-game is the Alice pack. I know there are people who have Coyote backpacks, I've just never found one.

My honest opinion of Day Z (And message to the creator)
cyanyde replied to d4rk51d3x's topic in New Player Discussion
Sure they would, but they would call it Left 4 Dead and it would get boring pretty quick.. ;)To the OP. I can see where you're coming from. Don't think I'm trying to insult you, but it does seem like you're used to other types of games. You need to realize that we aren't here to have fun. We're here to survive an alpha and beta phase.. If you don't want to help test, come back when we're finished. We'll still be here. The challenge isn't just about pvp or players, there's also the bugs.. not sure which is the worst evil. D: -
Hatchet, knife, matches, canteen. Once you have those things, you are self sufficient. The rest is just luxuries.. ;)

This. They also spawn inside churches. Between the Church, the Firestation and the Supermarket, you can pretty much get everything you need.

What drive is your arma 2 install located on? If it is in c:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead as listed in the shortcut, it's correct, if not, you need to replace what is there with the proper path. I can't tell you if it's correct without access to your machine, you have to check it yourself. If it's already correct then you have a different problem, but it's most likely related in some way.
-
Ok so go to your steam/steamapps/common/arma2 operation arrowhead/ folder and find the shortcut that says: "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" Right-click it and select properties. look at the fields that say "Target:" and "Start In:" Make sure they match what it says up in the address bar in the file explorer. for example: "c:/steam/steamapps/common/arma2 operation arrowhead/" Pay attention the the drive that is in the shortcut, my problem was that I copied the shortcut from my d: when the new copy was on my c: I hope this is more clear. :)

This. I actually went running around killing zombies with nothing but a hatchet and a revolver for about an hour last night. Then I found an Alice pack and a compass plus all the stuff I needed to kill/eat animals, so I decided to start taking things seriously. :) Thing is, I expected to get raped by the zeds when I only had the hatchet, but it's actually pretty damn good!

It might have to do with the ghillie suit. I've heard lots of reports about people losing gear/reverting back to former lives on respawn. You could try respawning and seeing if your stuff comes back, if you don't want to do that, try taking off the ghillie suit and see if you keep your stuff then. Either way, I don't recommend using the ghillie, until the issues with it get fixed, it's too risky to mess with it.

I'm a lone survivor and I rarely bother making contact with anyone if I can help it. I've been down to ~3000 blood and limped to the nearest cow or pig so I could slaughter and eat them.. many times. That said, I still carry a blood pack around with me whenever I can. Its not necessarily for me, I just want to make sure that I can help someone, if I run across them dying in the middle of nowhere. I agree that it would be nice to be able to give yourself a transfusion, but as an experienced player, I have to take the side of the people who are saying that it's already easy enough to keep yourself healthy by hunting animals and cooking the meat. Maybe in the future this will happen, but as it is right now there is no reason to interact with other players as long as you have the tools needed to sustain yourself. :) tl;dr go hunting. ;)

I'm running an intel core i3-2310m 2.1ghz with 4gb ram. I have an onboard card and I can still play with a bit of tweaking. It's not pretty, but it's playable. :) I used the info in this reddit to get things working http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/wqx8q/getting_low_fps_try_this/ If I could afford a new laptop right now though, I would definitely consider one with a decent video card built in. It would be worth it in more ways than just DayZ.

Should I add sniper hotspots on maps?

I lol'd :) -
My new weapon of choice is the Hatchet. It is a one-hit kill on Zeds, completely silent, and it uses zero ammo. (techinically) I ran around with it all last night and didn't need to use my revolver once! You can even sneak up behind zeds close enough to stealth kill them, and if you miss your first shot, it's pretty low cool-down, so it's not hard to get a second shot off before you get hit.. I don't recommend trying to pvp with nothing but the hatchet, but if you've got an m1911 or revolver for backup, it's pretty win. :)

How to you get fun in this game? What goals do you have?
cyanyde replied to mkrrr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Last night I decided to stick with the hatchet for my primary and just use a revolver as backup. I have pretty much everything I need to survive, so I just killed a couple animals for meat and ran around looting in stealth mode. Wanna know what I realized? The hatchet is friggin' awesome! :) I'm pretty sure it's just a hacked m1911 with a new model and reduced range/noise levels. Its got the same damage as the 1911 and the revolver, unlimited ammo, and iit's completely silent! I killed almost 100 zeds and with the cooked meat and bandages I had on me, I didn't even have to worry about getting hit so much. I even came across and left behind winnies and lee enfields, even an ak47 because it really doesn't hold a candle to the hatchet. My point is, I usually just run around with an AKM or a Kobra, but I had more fun using the hatchet last night than I have in ages, and I'm still using that loadout today! I think I'll put my good stuff in a tent and go on a murder spree in Cherno later.. Who says there's nothing fun to do in DayZ? ;) (It's either that or collect Mountain Dew) :P -
Wow, cool story turns into back-seat moderation. If I were Rocket, I wouldn't ban the op, I'd ban the retard who is derailing threads. :P The name and avatar alone are enough to tell me that I don't have to look at your post history to see that you're a douche bag in 90% of your posts.. Anyway, cool story. It would have been cooler if your crew had wiped out the ambush, but at least you made it out with your loot. In the future, I recommend avoiding trolls in your posts. Don't let one moron ruin your day. ;)

Here is all you need for weapon comparisons. :)

Yeah I have to agree with the OP, the game is definitely the most unique thing that I've played. I'm 34 and I've been playing video games since Atari, Coleco and Intellevision days.. Ive played everything from Sierra adventure games to Ultima to Fallout to the current day "sandbox" titles and more. I've been involved with developing mods and maps for everything from Quake 1 to the Source engine. I've watched countless dev teams go from design docs to thriving community to dead game.. Ive even watched my friends and fellow devs go from mod team to being offered jobs in the industry because of the work they did. I've seen games and mods alike succeed and fail, and I've had high hopes for over-hyped sequels more times than I would like to count. (I'm looking at you Duke Nukem Forever) Through all of this, I've searched high and low for something different. Always disappointed by the limitations in games like GTA 3, Fallout 3 and Skyrim, which promised unprecedented freedom the likes of which I'd "Never seen before" and despite each of those games successes, they weren't what I wanted.. until DayZ. I'm not saying it's perfect, and I'm not saying it's exactly what I've been searching for, but it's an alpha.. and despite that fact, it's damn close. It's got it's share of bugs, but I'm used to that. I've been testing games for over half my lifetime.. but the core is there, and I'm stoked that I have the chance to help to mold this into the game that I see hiding in the rough. It's not like Minecraft where we had no idea what we would get at the end of the road. For me, Dayz is a clear vision, and based on reading Rocket's interviews and his goals for where he wants this mod to go, for the first time ever, I'm not afraid to get hyped up about what's in store for this game when it's finally finished. But as I said once before: I'm even more excited about the journey, than I am about the end result. :)

er... What.. um... what were you eating... D: I lol'd ;)

I solved this on my home pc, here's what I did. First of all, I copied all of my dayz and beta files from my lapyop where it was working, to my computer at home, which isn't on the internet. It was giving me the profile message, so I figured it was a path issue. Here's the thing: My steam folder is on my C: on my laptop, on my home pc it's on d: I checked the paths in all my files and in the "Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch" in the Operation Arrowhead folder, the paths were still setup for my laptop. I changed it to match my paths on the desktop and it worked! I don't know if it's the same for you guys, but check the target and "start in" fields in that shortcut, if it is wrong fix it. I hope this helps someone. :)

Pretty entertaining.. I would have quit the server when there was nothing in the supermarket, and why weren't you checking the tents? That server was eff'd up.. no zombie agro, no loot.. looked like it needed a restart. Sub'd.. Keep the DayZ vids coming.

For those saying 6updater is a "be-all" installer, no it's not. If there was a single exe that installed the dayz files, and the current compatible beta, plus all the startup options/backup and replacing of the exe, things would be better. That way, we would always have the proper beta, and the devs could include the best version with each update. Basically, you download and install dayzinstaller_1.7.2.3.exe, it includes AO Beta 94876. If a new beta is released, the DayZ team either uses it for their next build, or releases a rolling update with the fixes they have so far, including the current compatible beta. That way, we don't need to worry about installing the beta, and the devs know that whatever version we have installed is the same for everyone across the board. It would be way better than 6updater because it would always be paired with the correct beta version. Please do this. :)

So, did he kill you? He just posted another thread for the same reason. I'm always willing to help people who need it, but if he's setting a trap, he's barking up the wrong tree. ;)

Yup, it took me an entire evening to get it working.. I was drinking beer at the time which didn't help either. :P Once it was working, it was an amazing experience.. the sense of wonder that you get from just wandering around the map is amazing. It sucks trying to get it set up, but it's possible, and like Mike said above me, it's well worth it! :)
