Thanks for the quick reply Stapo. I read that thread twice before posting this question. That thread was created Aug 1st 2012 and has not had action since Aug 20 2012. It only mentions "Purchasing a dedicated/managed server". I do not want to purchase anything. I have plenty of hardware and plenty o bandwidth. Hello All, I have been playing on my private server for a few dayz now. (= Was wondering what it would take to connect it to the main LIVE servers? Am running opendayz.com's Pwnoz0r's DayZ Private Server Pack and am wondering What steps are required to move private hive to public hive? Will check over on opendayz site forum and report back anything I learn. It will probably have to do with redirecting mysql to their server and getting some credentials of some sort. iZaphod

New player here and am trying to figure out the rules and game mechanics. When I die how long does my body stay there? If i reboot the server does it effect my corpse or items dropped? If is set an item down on the ground how long will it stay there? Assuming no other survivor takes it. (= Can i return to the same grocery store multiple times to check loot drops? I have really enjoied playing so far. Thanks for any comments at all. iZaphod

Ok, I get it. We don't want to have the ability to turn of friendly fire. To be honest I did not really want it, my work buddy rage quit because a 14 year old by killed him and I am trying to see if there is a way to set up my public server to satisfy him, was looking forward to hunting zombies with the peeps at work... I get it though, it would be a different game.

I am pretty sure this has been asked / answered but could not find a good answer. I have just setup a dedicated server (private hive) and have been poking around the mysql databse. Is there any tweek that could be made to effect the amount of damage you take from certian weapons or something that could be used to essentially "turn off friendly fire"? Thanks iZaphod

Success!!!! I tried opendayz.com 's Pwnoz0r's DayZ Private Server Pack and it worked for me. Some things of note: 1) no need to install any version of mysql - the download comes with a stripped down version that is started in the StartServer.bat 2) I had to copy my Addon folder from 'Arma 2' dir to 'arma 2 operation arrowhead' this is a bout 8 GB Now to see if i can configure my filrewall/router to make it public!!!! don

Wow, still fighting it. I think part of my problem currently is I have version 5.1 of MySql installed, instead of v5.5 that is recommended..... If i did not have MySql and github experience, attempting to figure out how to create a server or "private hive" as you are calling it would be out of the question. I am using the opendayz websites Lite DayZ private server package at the moment, i am not going to post a link because it will probably be invalid in a short time. I am getting strange errors: * when starting up the Arma 2 Dedicated server using batch file i get error: "Addon dayz_anim requires addon CA_Dubbing_counter_attack" * when opening the game Arma 2: Op Arrow, i get ""invalid crew TK_Soldier_Crew_EP1 in BTR60_TK_EP1" There is something wrong with the MySQL database at the moment i will install newer version and try the setup batch file again and see if databases look any more complete. This game is fun, I mean when has killing zombies not been fun, right? Setting up you own server is out of reach of most people though at the moment. iZaphod

Hello All!!! I am a fairly new DayZ player and have done some research about creating a public server. I have plenty of hardware and bandwidth but I can not find a "recent" discussion on how to set up a server.... Some posts have pointed me to this link ( http://support.dayzmod.com/index.php ) But there is no way to register for that forum and you have to login to post and there does not seem to be a channel for requesting "instance Ids" This post ( http://dayzmod.com/f...administration/ ) was made in August of last year, and has non new posts and, is all about purchasing a managed server. I have plenty of hardware and don't want to purchase another... I am certain that I am missing something because there are over 6000 servers in the DayZ Commander list. Any help will be greatly appreciated. iZaphod
