It's not so much the scale as it is having a consistent amount of detail within that large scale. In Kerbal Space Program(Unity) for example, the planet Kerbin alone is like 45,000,000 km², but the vast majority of it is just barren terrain. -

The dayzdb.com map let's you measure distances now. If you know your position and your target's position, it's pretty easy to get an estimate of the range. -

A nice compromise would be to only desaturate/blur the edges of the screen like a vignette. Just something I pulled off of google but it demonstrates what I'm talking about. -

In 28 Days Later the infected do get tired after a little bit of sprinting. During the tunnel scene you can even see them slow and give up the chase as the car speeds away. Obviously the zombies in DayZ are not in a finished state and need some work, but I think they're mostly okay the way they are as far as speed is concerned. They will be a lot more threatening when there's more of them around. Rather than making the zombies never get tired, they should probably make the player get tired too. -
If you have your HDR set at very low, change it to low. It makes a huge difference in night-time visibility. With the moon out and gamma cranked up it may as well be daytime.

Ballistic vest and Press Vest?

Friend of mine said he found one in the tents at NWAF. He did confirm that it was definitely a ballistics vest and not a tactical vest. -
The other day my friend and I were traveling together, myself right behind him when he just slumped over dead, no sound of a shot. We didn't really think it was a sniper because there was no sound, but a few second later I was hit and heard two shots, as the first missed. So I suspect at least some of the "random death" reports are actually just people getting sniped and it's a sound bug that makes the shot silent.

Portal 2 on PS3 came with a free copy of the PC version. That's a unique situation though, as Valve controls Steam, and they were promoting the cross-platform co-op in Portal 2. -
BREAKING NEWS: loot spawn on restart is intentional!

It's not intentional, it's just a temporary workaround. If it were intentional the loot would just respawn after X hours without restarting the entire server. The obvious solution is to make each building/car/etc. respawn it's loot X hours after it was first looted; provided there are no players in the vicinity. -

I found my pristine LRS on the roof of the ATC tower at the NE airstrip. -
I haven't noticed any North/East bug, but one thing I did notice is that your character holds the compass at a slight angle. So if you're holding the compass, the natural instinct is to make your desired heading point vertically in relation to your monitor. However since the compass is held at an angle in-game, if you align it with your monitor, you will be a few degrees off your intended heading. Instead you have to align it with the top of the compass model.

Any open-world game like DayZ/Arma where the assets are streamed as you play is where SSD's really shine.

Part of the problem is the fact that loot doesn't respawn yet, coupled with there being no vehicles. If you go to loot some place and it's already been picked clean, the only options are: A. Wait for server restart, could take hours B. Hike to another location, can take up to an hour, requires supplies, and there's a chance that location will have been picked clean too C. Server hop

Sounds like you just want stat-tracking not achievements. Which would be fine as long as it doesn't track K:D and such, that would just encourage KoS even more.

The engine doesn't support Linux, so I wouldn't count on it happening. It's possible they might update RV4(Arma3) or make RV5 Linux compatible, but it would probably be a waste of resources to go back to RV3(Arma2) and add Linux support.

I think the implication is that you washed ashore after a shipwreck, hence everyone starts on the coast.

I like the idea of having an "identify" key. Someone could hold you up and demand you identify yourself, you then press the key and a nametag pops up above your head for a few seconds. I would like to see squad/clan/steam friend markers in addition though. Just make the markers scale with distance and not render through walls/etc. So then you don't have a bunch of HUD markers all over your screen, but you can still identify your friends when they're nearby. Even better require you to mouse over them to show the marker.

I've only actually attacked one other person (with a shovel) in 40 hours of playing, and he logged out. I was an accomplice yesterday though, my friend did the killing but I was providing overwatch and orchestrated the ambush. -

People don't go to the north (northwest now really) looking for pvp, but the ones that make it up there have too much to lose to risk shooting second. -
Places I've personally found them: Tan 2-story houses with green windows (the ones with pianos in them) Factories (there's one in Berezino, where the big crane is) Rify (the ship on the NE coast, up in the wheelhouse) The only long range scope I've found was on the very top of the air traffic control tower at the NE airstrip.

Being Able To Carry 2 Rifle Sized Guns Would Be Nice

I like the idea of having a special backpack or chest item that has fewer slots but lets you carry two rifles. Somewhat similar to the way chest-holsters work. Overall I wish they had gone with a STALKER-like system. In STALKER you have a grid/tile inventory screen, but the slots are unlimited and it's only there to provide a quick visual representation of items. Instead of inventory-tetris, everything is weight-based. So you can choose to carry more guns and ammo, making you better prepared for a fight; or you can travel light and fast and have more room to haul loot back to your stash. Though the current system does have the advantage of more or less forcing players to advertise their weapons on their back/hands. -
