How to make death actually matter more
shadowleaper replied to Ziliphade's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the main reason you bring it up could revolve around the fact that good loot is only spawned at main city centres, hopefully with the new S.A system the other coastal towns and areas will have enough places and loot of interest. This should help solve the issues we currently have. -
[Standalone Suggestion] Bases
shadowleaper replied to excursion_@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Quite an involved idea, but I like it. I can still see people trolling an area by building houses around it :P -
Firstly TLDNR. Secondly. What you're suggesting is a completely different game altogether. Day Z revolves around it's PVP interactions, it just wouldn't be Day Z without it. Thirdly. I like potatoe. ಠ_ಠ

Perma-identity. Nickname is permanent. Nickname as face. Cover face - conceal nickname.

Love this topic. Voted it up all the way :) -
I like that this was brought up as I'm always a big fan of discussing game balancing ESPECIALLY when it comes to bandit and hero game play styles. I think if (and I'm sure they will be) zombies become more of a mission to get past then I believe ammo will be conserved for this reason while players are scavenging.

Diving, Underwater Bases/Caves and Water Vehicle's

Mmm in that case, I'd say start by keeping it simple. Create a swimming mechanism that's not clunky and take it from there after release: more content. -
Diving, Underwater Bases/Caves and Water Vehicle's

I'd like to see this too, but I'm from what I've read, Day Z SA will not be using ARMA 3 engine. Instead they're chopped up the Arma 2 engine and modified the crap out of it to form somekind of 2.5 version. So don't hold your breath (oh the pun) on this one just yet. -
I think if you have a ghillie on you shouldn't be able to smoke because in reality snipers are told to never smoke since their smoke trails can be seen by other snipers/scouts etc.
-
I have a feeling this will be fixed to a certain extent depending on where you are relative to the 'corner'. The closer you get to an object the more the camera zooms in. This will most likely be like those old tomb raider games. I do recall reading a rumour about this, can anyone confirm?

Reduced visibility with Ghillie
shadowleaper replied to FinalNinja447's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
As we still don't have an accurate picture of what's causing the new aggroing in SA this is a hard topic to tackle. I think if I had to choose, I'd make aggro based on vision and sound like before but with a preference to sound. (helps zeds hunt at night) -
Instead of skill system, implement handbooks
shadowleaper replied to vaevictis's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Really? Gosh, that's scary, flying choppers was hard enough as it was imo. -
That's some extreme detail and polish. I'd like to see a character smoke if he's carrying cigarettes.

Hmmm after reading some posts here and the quotes from Rocket... I think Day Z should remain brutal. I do like the idea of a facilitated spawn after many deaths, but then again, I'm worried it'd crush the original concept of the game. Personally I'm gonna say 'Whatever the designer had in mind, let's stick to that', it's his unique vision, and I like the new refreshing experiences.

Mi gusto. I think this would be great in SA, but the gear should look more worn and maybe even ripped and burnt. That way you can distinguish from the regular army gear you'd find around and make you more unique. Maybe even have it like a collection thing like a crash will only drop so much of one type so you look for more of the same type of crash etc.

Totally agree. There is a line to be respected for all players. I think there are better ways to incentivise banding together and killing other players. Making spawning rarer would really frustrate me as a player. I like to find what I'm looking for and spending 4 hours to find a box of matches is not what a game should be about. I think healing, feeding and protecting players from zombies should up a player's hero status and give them in game benefits that are lost after they kill another player. It would need balancing to become worth it.

Not true, we have twinkies, but they're called tinkies.

Sad to see this topic get so much flame. I like the idea of more sophisticated central spots. I'd like to see a higher counts of zombies in Cities in the SA. Coupled with, of course, better loot.

Improved noise system, zombie warning, improved map, regional loot, more tent/clothing varieties, satchel charges/ammo bandolier and more....
shadowleaper replied to Trixxta's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1. Yes, yes yes. Love this idea would make sounds more dynamic and interesting. 2. This is as far as I've seen, already being implemented into the Stand Alone. I've seen recordings of zombie alert states in their motion capture pipeline. 3. I was one of the map reveal supporters and I like your ideas. I'd like to have the option of taking another player's map when you find it on their corpse, this would likely update your current map but with slightly less personal information (since you haven't actually been to some places for example). 4. I like this one too. It does seem to be more likely that if you're crafting you'd go to the areas you need to find the 'ingredients' for instance. 5. Good idea, but I don't see players taking tents that are too big that they stand out. 6. This has been confirmed in the Stand Alone. "Once released, expect new content every week. We are planning hundreds and hundreds of clothing varieties." 7. Apparently they are in the game, but they are crazy rare, I've never seen them. I like the idea of explosives, they should remain rare or only found in extremely dangerous/overridden places. 8. Could be interesting, but I think it should replace the packpack or something to balance it's use. That way you could encourage the use of the 'ammo guy' in your team. 9. I agree that night time should be fun. I think the Dev team are probably very aware of this imbalance and are working hard to rectify it. Personally I like the pitch black nights, but as you said, we need a better way to navigate it. Torches and chemlights should be improved. I'd also love to see some glowing eyes on the zombies, but maybe you only see them when you're closer. Zombies should behave and react closer to sounds like you mentioned too. 10. Couldn't agree more. I'm always in favour of more thematic immersion, maybe even elements that set your teeth on edge like whispers and things that occasionally sound like bullets but aren't etc. >:D 11. I'm sure that with the new UI overhaul there won't be an issue about this. You will clearly see what you're about to drop before you do. 12. Like you said, complex, but something I'd love to see in far future development. We can always wishlist! :D 13. This has been an issue, and I believe it will still be difficult to solve in the Stand Alone. Now with the addition of new clothing and personalisation, I believe seeing players might be both easier or more difficult. I remain optimistic. 14. I like this one too. Swimming in general needs an overhaul, let's cross our fingers. 15. I'm a big fan of automatic tracking systems and I've been really hoping that the dev team saw my post on Journals. If you haven't check it out: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/122446-sa-journallogbook/#entry1169308 -
Really like this idea. Attracting zombies to make the driver's life more difficult or simply using it as zombie bait is amazing and thematic.

Ideas for standalone when it comes to staying 'humane'
shadowleaper replied to Jum's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Oh dear, I tend to disagree with some of you. I like the humanity system but it would need a lot of balancing and encouraging behaviour in the gameplay. My way of getting around this was to create a, albeit complex, system of story and gameplay elements surrounding Journal carrying, you can read about it here: http://dayzmod.com/f...k/#entry1169308 -
Let's put it this way. Over the next few days maybe even next week, the Day Z team will have finished motion capturing the Zombie moves. They'd have to rerent out an entire set just to complete this suggestion, or get their animators to do it, which would take a while either way. Point here is, I doubt they're considering this kind of change at least for the moment so don't expect complex zombie interaction on first release. That said, I do like the idea, but I feel it should be kept for a zombie class in their own (a grabber for instance) This would be quite a frightening experience, I like that :)
-
Yep. I like the idea, as hard as it is to implement into the game. I vote with The_Burndown when he mentions rough estimates for map coordinates. I also like the radio thing, it adds flavour to the game. This could be done tastefully I believe.

Idea: Easter eggs are random, rare as heck spawns that look like the dead bodies of the Devs. Looting their corpse, you'll find a super can of beans that cures you to full health and removes all diseases.

SOMEWHERE TO STORE ITEMS IN THE STANDALONE
shadowleaper replied to THEKIDINABOX's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I really like this idea, but you'd have to be super careful not to make it a 'dungeon' like in MMOs, then people would get to the point where it's no longer a big deal to break in. Love the idea of zombies spawning around it and being shot by NPCs. -
Like he said. Ideas include: Overdose, Wrist Slashing, Bullet to the head, Seppuku, Hanging, Jumping from a cliff/tall building.
