SOMEWHERE TO STORE ITEMS IN THE STANDALONE
shadowleaper replied to THEKIDINABOX's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@Thekidinabox There ARE ways of storing items in Day Z. It's called a tent and a car. Be careful where you place them and you shouldn't have too much of an issue. My group and I set up a huge tent site in a great location and we didn't worry about looting because we were stocked to the teeth: 1 person or even a group of players would take a week to loot everything we had! :D And by then we'd notice and murder them. Removing paranoia and unease is dangerous as mentioned and the idea of area camping is horrible. It's bad enough as the game is now, we should discourage it in the standalone too. -
Great ideas, but with a world this big and that many players and animals... I don't think this is realistic. Footprints are expensive on game engines. And if everyone's playing an average of an hour or 2 each then... well it's just madness. I'm no programmer, but I do work with them and this is usually the last thing that makes it into a game. Maybe someday we'll see a massive sequal with these cool next gen features.

I'd like to see just spawning with a bandage. The rest is worth scavenging for. Anything else is a big too advantagous for my taste. Once you die 3 or 4 times you get used to how day Z is played anyway, it's not meant to be easy, that's the appeal, it's more realistic. That said, I'm not always so hot on beach spawning, I think it ruins story emersion. I'd like to see house/hospital spawns more.

Suggestion - Coming back as zombie (please read)
shadowleaper replied to ShokeR (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
^Exactly what I heard too. Therefore this topic is invalid :P JK, I really like the idea. Infact a tougher, meaner zombie than the others would be even better! Maybe make him loud too, nice and scary >:D -
A Way to Introduce a more Work-together environment?
shadowleaper replied to Steam_Power's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the best way to deal with this issue is use what we already have: Humanity. Hero: The higher up to go the better you get at: "Healing, spotting players, scavenging, repairing vehicles" Bandit: The higher up you go the more you "Carry more ammo, survive in the wild, steal etc." The trick here is to not give any bonus combat abilities to either. Combat should stay the as neutral as possible, but the more 'Hero' you become, the more your character will not tolerate a bandit in his presence and visa versa, maybe an auto combat system that kicks in if you're too close/have line of sight or something. The opposite being true. Another idea to all this is how each type will influence their own kind: -Standing around a max level hero will cause your hp to go up faster because your moral gets boosted. -Standing around a max level bandit will cause you to move faster on foot/use navigatie better etc. Just throwing these out there, they'd all need to be balanced. -
I think what he meant was that it could be abused during a fire fight and deny humanity points etc. Suicide should have a 30 second delay before you can do it maybe. I think suicide in general would be really cool if you could choose how to set it up, like hanging in a room or slashing your wrists in the bathroom or shooting yourself in the woods against a tree etc. Could really make the game thematic.

Waypoints only allowed with a GPS
shadowleaper replied to TheG4Gaming's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'd like players to go one step further and maybe pick up incomplete maps and then through navigation start filling them out. The more detailed maps are made the longer you remain in and around that area. -
Couldn't agree more. I do like the idea of only dying once your hunger and then your thirst kicks out.
-
Cool ideas, but I'm not sure you realise how hard it is to find someone standing still/on the edge of something and not knowing you're there. These are big changes for something we'll hardly ever get round to trying/doing. I do like your melee options though. I had a similar idea, but I prefer the idea of bodies to degrade. Dead NPC characters in poses after zombie massacres... this way we can still scatter guns around like it's a new discovery and add more depth to the story of the game.
-
I agree. I think it should have it's own animation of bending over to drink with your hands. Keep in mind that with the new filtration system in the works (or so I hear) there will be an increased chance to contract disease/sickness from these water sources when not filtering.

Don't even make third-person an option for DayZ standalone
shadowleaper replied to Pomegranate's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Now there's a solution I like. Otherwise, I really like 3rd person, it makes surveying surroundings/team easier and it's obviously nice to see your character's gear and look, take that out and you have epic fail. -
Couldn't agree more. It should have been further inland and run into a river that runs into the ocean.
-
Yes. Yes, and more yes. Radio would be sOOooo frikin amazing to find and use. Love the idea, I did hear rumour about this coming to pass in SA.
-
Great idea, I like the idea of healing over time. :)
-
I couldn't agree more. Day Z is NOT a military shooter, it's a post apocalyptic world where everything has gone to s**t. I do like the idea reinforced cars. From what Dean has mentioned we're looking at a Mad max type of vehicle restoration and use, so why not include expensive materials to make tankier cars! :D
-
As I see it, variety would be the best option. Some that walk, some that crawl and some that run. The runners hit less hard, the walkers hit hard and crawlers could grapple you horribly. These could be compounded by other ideas I've read like camouflage/ambush zombies. In essence, zombies need to provide an adequate reason for you to not stop and loot one area for too long.
-
While the idea in theory sounds good, I think it destroys the apocolyptic feel of the game. I think part of what makes DayZ so interesting is how difficult the navigation is. Nothing was more satisfying to me than finally meeting up with a friend or two and going off on an adventure. "I'm near stary". "I'm near cherno, meet up half way?" Those memories shouldn't be removed or distilled. I'd like to see some team dynamics, just not like this, especially if we start spawning away from the coast, which would be thematically stronger imo.

[3D model] Different Food Qualities (3/29 Update)
shadowleaper replied to joeyslucky22's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Wow dude, these are really great, I love the degraded alternatives too. I hope Dean jumps on this like a fat kid on cake! :) Good work, your fandom is inspiring :D -
I can think of two ways to make this post better. 1.) Include a link to the original posts by the authers. 2.) Include my award winning Journal/Logbook idea :P

Improving movements; Additional Gestures(Standalone+Pics Included)
shadowleaper replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like your ideas in general, this one is a good one too. I think implementing a good key system for this would really help too. If we really did experience a zombie apocalypse, I think hand signals would become VERY VERY fashionable. -
For Standalone - Dynamic minefields.
shadowleaper replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm really not sure about this idea. I think Day Z has enough on it's plate with how players will die and have to panic etc. Minefields lean quite heavily towards a military simulator. That said, I do think having maybe an area that has a high chance of spawning great items surrounded by a minefield. It could be interesting to see players 'learn' the field during their time of play. In any case I don't believe mines should be fatal, maybe just break a leg or two :D -
[DayZ SA] Car Locking, Keys, and Alarms - Realistic Vehicles
shadowleaper replied to xDIx Revenge's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I dunno, I have mixed feelings about the key system. Why not make it a first time owner thing? So if you find and repair the vehicle, which btw, is already s**t-hard to do, you should have the benefit of choosing when to lock and unlock it. Once you break into it, henchforth you should also gain 'first time ownership' of the car. Once in the car, you can then bestow this right to your passengers too. Eg: "Give passengers locking rights" We need to think more in terms of fast implementation for the development team. Less work means more chance of seeing it in game. -
Thought on nutrition, food, drinks, and survival in general.
shadowleaper replied to Jeremiah Cross's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like the food breakdown idea. Simply because in reality you would get deficient looking and only finding one type of food. There could be some interesting draw backs to this and really give a sense of reward when you find that orange for instance. I'd make the drawbacks there, but make them only set in after a long game time as it would IRL. It'd add a subtle change to the blood and stamina system etc. -
I think boobies are great. But as for this topic... I think SA could implement this kind of thing but we need to remember the true nature of them. They were designed to maim not kill. This is to cause 2 soldiers a major problem. In standalone this could take the effect of breaking your legs or making you pass out. Actual damage would be really nasty only if fatal, which I would not like since that's kinda unfair if it's really really well hidden, but maybe that's just me.

Introduction: After playing the Mod for a long time and recently watching the SA release video a great idea popped in my head. I posted this on youtube in a simple form and it got a lot of attention, I even receieved a few emails. I hope you guys like it too. This idea isn't nessessary for release but could be something the team could implement after. If this is TLDR, I understand! :P --------------------------------------------- Every player can find a journal/logbook in the game. This book would accelerate your progress towards being a hero or being a bandit. This takes no space in your inventory, maybe even has it's own slot (like map and compass) After you pick one up the game automatically tracks certain actions you perform and begins to write them down. Basic records: -When and how you kill another player. -When and how you kill a single or group of zombies. -When and how you escape a zombie attack (They have to hit you once for this to trigger as an event) -Where you found food/liquids and the state of hunger and thirst you were in. -Learning new skills for the first time (skinning/crafting/hunting etc.) -Finding objects of strategic importance: binoculars, map etc. -Fixing and repairing a car: Where you found it, where you're keeping it safe. -Any areas you logout are treated as safe havens when you do it more than 3 times in a row within a certain area of the map. These are logged as the area you and possibly your party has decided to camp/live. Helping other players: -Lists their names and what you helped them cure/stabalise. -Giving them items of survival, in the case of food or liquids, also mentions the state of their condition. Killing or wounding a zombie aggroing another player. Players then have the option to edit their journal in the form of removing entries only. ---- Now. As far as flavour is concerned, I'd like to see that each entry upon picking one of these up is written in a neutral way. Maybe even starting out with a little panicked back story. Eg: "Today I woke up to a nightmare. Everything has gone to shit. I don't know whether to carry on or find some quite place to wait and die, so far, all I've seen are dead bodies and people possessed with the need to eat flesh." -you get the idea. Then perhaps as you develop your character the game will see what kind of player you are. (hero?bandit?) Eg: Finding a toolbox. Hero: "Today I found a toolbox. It lay beside a dead body. His blood soaked ID read one "Jeffery Hitchcock". I found a pistol beside his severed hand. It was empty, he died an honourable death. If only I could get there in time to help. He kept a journal too, perhaps it can help me find some other survivors." Bandit: "Well well, a toolbox. This should come in handy. Hello, is that a pistol? The poor bastard didn't even have the decency to leave any ammo. Probably defending against those things out here. If Mr. Jeff had any brains he'd have realised killing is my job. It seems he was tracking his progress in a journal. Perhaps I can use this to find any friends he may have compromised."
