Alright, since noone else is stepping in to save the day, I made a food item to commemorate Joey's effort. Presenting Joey's Cup-Ramen - Enjoy the Sensation Within Zombie-Nation ( おいしいだよ!): (kinda lazied out on the texture after getting the cylinder-side colored and the top section... might go back to it and make it a little more detailed at some point. And I should probably check if I can get the license to use that zombie thumbs up logo :D) And because I never managed to get them embedded before, the previous items close-up (there's some minor texture glitches here and there that I should fix, but at the moment it's like why bother): -

The nails are used for the nailgun (model done, need to texture it though) to barricade building entrances with wood (nailgun can also be used as a short-distance weapon). Surgical set to remove bullets after surviving a firefight, otherwise the wound will get infected and you start losing blood slowly until the bullet is extracted. Or, you know, just as decorative items in enterable hospitals :D -

I wouldn't know what Joey's up to, I'm currently working on a surgical set, quick preview render scene with other stuff for size comparison (can you spot the throwing knife?): http://imgbin.org/images/11604.png As you can see, still plenty of tools missing in that kit :D next will be the scissors. It's gonna have a red rubber band to hold it together, seems more appropriate for that shape than a zipper. -

NVGs overpowered? No. NVGs necessary for night play? No. I just had a 6 hour run through the night with two friends, one always carrying a road flare. It was a lot of fun, it adds to the experience tenfold. Sure, logging into a server to see it's nighttime and you have no flares or anything and you cant even use the flashlight properly, that sucks. But if you know it's getting darker, start picking up flares and you're good. Sure, it will make you a target for bandits, but what doesnt... -

How will grass be made into an advantage in the SA?

Well, you would need ridiculously tall grass to be completey concealed anyways. Video games have desensitized us for the fact that you're pretty well distinguishable in open fields, e.g. MGS3 leads you to believe that you can lay a meter next to a patrolling soldier without being spotted because you're in high grass. You never see it from the enemy's perspective or you'd know it's a cheap trick, if the camo index for the current position is high enough the AI is blind to it. Any human player would still see you as well as a car parked there. It takes a very narrow viewing angle for grass to be properly concealing, whether you render the odd grass blade to the side of the model or not. That's why all those photos of nicely concealed soldiers with google image search are at a very low angle, from a bird eye view it works quite differently. At narrow angles, the arma engine already does a pretty good job of disturbing your close-range view in lieu of rendering the entire distance's worth of grass. And then we have 3rd person view that raises the camera angle by a couple of meters, defeating the purpose. I'm sure ghillie suits and camo clothing can be improved to better blend in with the environment and distort the player's outline further, but for normal models, whether you increase vegetation rendering isn't going to change much. Crysis for example purposely gave enemy soldiers clothing that isn't just random brown and green, but color values that match the local vegetation's color scheme. In essence, if there were more random vegetation such as bushes and your viewing perspective were limited to 1st person, much of the problem would go away. -

Clearly you don't. "Also with seeing grass from a long distance with again for example farcry it would not cause such a big hit on performance as with arma, as the LOD stays the same all the time, no constant calculating on the background in what detail level something needs to be rendered." You might check that again, LOD management IMPROVES performance. http://www.blenderna...-for-mentalray/ Blental combines Blender with MentalRay, what more can you want? Blender does have a compositing editor, so once it's through the external render process, you can apply all the goodies you want :D -

I wasn't too big a fan of blender's UI / way of doing things either. Now when I work with maya I always try and use stuff that doesnt exist in maya like that and i just remember it from blender (i.e. add face vs append to polygon). Anyone borrow me a torture kit so I can get down on zBrush? It's throwing a tantrum, starting up only 1/3 of the time, GoZBrush functionality not responsive, random crashing. Why did I update to the latest version again? -
Who says the moment you lose control over your character is the moment your heart stops beating? Change the inspect body to say "His heart-beat is becoming erratic" within the 20 secs, if you defi quick enough you may just save him. I know how defis work in real life, they're not used to reanimate a dead heart but used to treat ventricular fibrillation and such, but it's only a game, you can find justifiable means for anything, and if people want to carry an item for the off chance they get to someone under 30 secs, why not.

Hey everyone, I hope this thread doesn't attract too much off-topic banter (yeah, right). It's probably going to be either graveyarded, replied to by people who are as clueless as me and are just guessing around, or necro it's way down the thread list, but here goes. I was wondering about the current stance on community efforts to contribute new features to the DayZ main mod. I've tried reaching out to the dev(s) without response (I haven't been too obnoxious about it, no need to pester anyone), I've seen nice additional features on custom maps that I wonder if those maps' makers tried approaching the main mod's devs to have it ported over, I've seen plenty a good suggestion thread and even tried making my own posts there, including details on how to implement it (without code, why waste my time...) and started some 2D/3D work on them, I've seen pull requests on github with features fully coded just sitting there... Where is this mod going? Who decides what is and what isn't going into it? Is there even a roadmap of sorts, and if so, why doesn't the community have access to such a design document if it's meant to be "an open mod"? So far any effort I've seen is either being ignored or replied to with what I can only equate to "make your own version, kthxbye". Makes me more and more pessimistic. If it said somewhere "Hey, if you wanna add a feature, fork, implement, add models/textures yourself if you need em, then send us a PR when it works", cool, I'd start working on the code, but as it stands, it just seems like I'd be wasting my time. -

Hasn't that been this way for a long time? I knew people who would reconnect anytime they got down to 1 bullet in the clip as a "fast & reload" cheat in previous versions.

"Meat was split up into 5 different types (more bag slots needed as a result since diff. types don't stack) That or you simply carry one type of meat per person. Besides, if you have inventory space problems you are most likely carrying a lot of stuff you don't actually need. Thus you are a hoarder and hoarders are just taking up bandwidth and performance on the servers they play on." Not even that (@ green stuff), Diz seems to be either complaining that his backpack item list is getting longer or doesnt understand the fact that meat never stacked in the first place, just because the limited backpack view (when not pointing your cursor at a loot pile / car trunk) lists them as numbered doesn't mean they take up any less space. -
