    Removing the 'Hide body' option

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea why this is still in the game... Situation: Me and friend were at Novodmitrovsk, the new town in the North-East of the map. Some guy running along the railway tracks with an AKM catches me off-guard and kills me. I should have been more alert, but that is not the point I intend to discuss in this thread. My friend runs into the trees and takes a few hits, but he gets away and continues to watch my body. The murderer stoops down as if to loot my body, but within half a second he then runs away. My friend reports my dead body full of hard-earned loot sinking into the ground. Most of it was fine. In fact, if he had bothered to loot it instead of instantly hiding it, he'd have got a lot of AKM ammo, a 30rnd AKM mag and a 75rnd Drum Mag. It would benefit everyone to remove the 'Hide body' option from the action menu, and it would increase immersion. In a real life, nobody can simply delete a body. Plus my friend could have looted my body after the KoS bandit had moved on, as he had very little gear and could have benefited from my misfortune.. On the other hand, the devs could allow the option to 'Bury' with a shovel that plays a 5-minute animation. That is GENEROUSLY short.

    Mosin burlap wrap with grass

Indeed, we did just that. My friend was indeed very hard to see! But the gun wasn't... When he removed the wrap, he blended in much more although due to the way the ArmA engine renders things at distances, it is impossible to be truly hidden at range. Character models have much higher detail than their surroundings, even more so than the leaves on a bush or the stones in a wall. Back in ArmA 2, at close range, a ghillie crouching in a bush was quite hard to see, but at long ranges he might as well be wearing bright pink. And this is still the case. I believe this effect is slightly compensated for by raising terrain at distances so that the character sinks into the ground a little, but nonetheless it doesn't hide the entire model and that which is not hidden is very obvious. If the entire model was hidden, then we could wear a medic uniform and still be invisible at 300m and that is most undesirable, so a simple solution may be to decrease texture quality on characters or increase the texture quality of the environment. I think decreasing the character detail at range would be far more FPS friendly, considering even some people with high-end computers suffer minor frame drops (especially in cities). However, this entire solution can be circumvented somewhat by a player altering his or her texture quality/detail in the Video settings. So... yeah. Snipers, beware: There is no such thing as invisible! ...at least not yet.

    Mosin burlap wrap with grass

Wow. Nice 'camoflauge'! Those brilliant white stripes totally won't give us away like a flare at midnight. The burlap strips need to be much thinner, and much darker. Preferrably slightly more green/beige like the original burlap models. Also, some way to cover up the scope (not the ends you look through, just the large black mass) would be appreciated. I do understand that in reality this would prevent you from making zeroing adjustments, but then again in reality you could cut holes in your burlap or simply remove it while you make adjustments.

    Suicide Option?

It seems from your comment you have some kind of personal grudge against bandits (don't we all?). However, I believe Dean Hall has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of doing anything which restricts a certain playstyle (unless of course said playstyle is abusing bugs/glitches in the game). A magical respawn button which does the DayZ equivalent of Chivalry's F10 command would not be a practical method of suicide and would completely break immersion.

    Suicide Option?

I am sorry, I don't see how suicide would assist the takedown of an enemy. Killing yourself with a weapon is a sensible addition to the game as players will usually wish to avoid death. If you have a bad spawn, I suppose it breaks immersion a bit but you could pick through a small town in the hopes of finding something so humble as an SKS bayonet. Ruining every item on your person is borderline silliness. How on earth would this improve gameplay? Shooting yourself in the head would not destroy everything in your backpack. Plus this opens up potential for abuse, although that could be counterracted with a simple 60-second suicide countdown.

    Removing the 'Hide body' option

I cannot even be bothered to quote you people. It seems that a majority of people who have posted here have been objective in their arguments and have offered constructive criticism, while a smaller percentage have reminded us that this is indeed the internet. I am not going to name anybody, because these knaves know their identities. It seems that a fair amount of folk have misunderstood my motives for this suggestion and have chosen to bombard the OP (me) with vitriolic, unjustly offensive comments (edit: ok, that was a bit of an exaggeration but some comments posted on this thread were still highly offensive) and making suggestions about me and/or my playstyle which contribute nothing to this otherwise civilised and objective debate. This system needs to go, and because dead players want to reloot their body, but to 1) Allow comrades of the fallen player to get gear from a body* and 2) to allow other players who might stumble upon the body to have another source of acquiring gear legitimately if the body is in a highly trafficked area close to a large amount of spawn locations such as Berezino or Novodmitrovsk. * Real example: I was with a friend at NWAF and we were surrounded in a milpol building by several bandits. I was unarmed, but my friend had an AKM. Poor devil was shot by a guy at the door. I sprinted past him, tried to get away but the attacker got a shot at me and started me bleeding. I determined I had to flee, but I had no bandages. I was on Skype with my deceased friend who communicated that he had a load of rags in his backpack. As I was running away, I ran back to where my friend died in the hope of scavenging his gun and some rags, I discovered that my friend's body had indeed been instantly hidden. The only prudent course of action that remained at that point was to try and injure the 4 heavily armed players as much as possible with my humble fists before they killed me or I bled out. Additionally, in the middle of a combat situation you would not be able to simply delete a man's body or destroy his gear instantly. If you wish to damage or destroy his gear, you can already do this fairly easily by simply shooting the dead body, although things in his backpack or in protector cases may survive. Instant and unbalancing destruction of a man's body can be a turning point in many firefights, cutting off a source of better weaponry, body armour, ammunition or crucial medical supplies. This is completely broken and unrealistic. A simple way to prevent dead players relooting their body, or at least to make it more difficult, would be to make zombies attracted to dead/bleeding players depending on how long they have been dead/bleeding for. If you finally get back to your dead body 10 mintues later, you may discover a small group of zombies feasting upon your body and 'OH MY GOD, THEY'VE WRECKED ALL MY SH*T!'

    Removing the 'Hide body' option

So you purposefully hide the body in order to prevent other players looting the body? Don't you think that is a bit of an unfair/cruel thing to do? Also, the ability to do this is completely unrealistic. If you really tried, I suppose you could try to destroy an object in someone's inventory but there should definately be a long animation. Destroying everything on that body in one fell swoop is complete and utter BS imho.

    Removing the 'Hide body' option

Mostly, yes. In my opinion that is the primary factor. But there are many other reasons for wanting the action removed, such as realism and immersion. Take it into your inventory, run a way and drop it in the woods. Or you could drop it into the middle of a lake/pond/ocean. My friend did not have a weapon. And when I say everyone, I mean both bandits and victims. Most people, when killed, attempt to return to their body and get a fraction of their gear back. And why shouldn't they? If you really want to roleplay it, then you are just a random survivor who happened to stumble upon a dead body full of gear. People who purposefully destroy all of a player's equipment after killing him really are not benefitting the game in any way. They kill meaninglessly. They do not kill for loot, or for safety. They run around looking for things to kill because that is the only way you can have fun in the game right now. If you really want to destroy equipment, I propose that you must destroy each piece of gear individually with a short 8-10 second animation. And it doesn't delete the item, only changes its quality to 'Ruined', thus unusable and unfixable.

    Removing the 'Hide body' option

Your typical KoS bandit might take the time to loot the dead bodies and find some loot worthwhile. And if the body is not hidden, then other people can still loot it and perhaps get a bit of gear themselves.

    Suicide Option?

I think you should be able to kill yourself with any bladed instrument or any gun with a bullet in the chamber. Of course, nobody would kill themself with a hammer for obvious reasons. Killing yourself with a pickaxe, hoe, shovel, pitchfork or similar weapon could prove rather difficult. You could probably slash your wrists/throat with: - Bayonets - Sickle - Kitchen Knife - Combat Knife (if I had one of these, I wouldn't even consider suicide) - Can opener - Axe (blade) - Hacksaw - Machete Or, of course, you could bury a pen into your windpipe with a bit of strength and motivation. Or just use a syringe, arrow or bolt. Even better, take the easy way out, with morphine, epinephrine, painkillers, tetracycline, etc. You could even use a defibrilator!

    DayZ Attachment's for newbies.

Hey. About the ATLAS bipod, I have found that: ----------- WHEN DEPLOYED --------------- Minor increase in prone accuracy Minor DECREASE in standing/crouched accuracy Also, what effects do the OE and 'MAGPUL' buttstocks have? What is the difference between CompM2 Optics and T3N RDS?
  12. My first Standalone player kill was at NWAF. I was with a large group, but we were all yelling so loud over our mics that approaching footsteps were inaudible. Suddenly, a man in a beanie hat with an M4 runs into the tent, and kills one of my mates while he was looting. Hearing the gunshots, I turned around and discharged three bullets into the beanie hat, taking one bullet to the torso. Somehow, nobody else heard the gunshots. I ran over to my dead foe, and shot him twice in the head again, for good measure. I then leant down next to my fallen comrade, checked on Skype if he was dead or nay, and walked away. Moments later, while we were in the treeline, we observed a much larger group of at least 6 players running amongst the tents. I suppose they must have heard the gunshots, or Beanie had been a scout. Later, I returned to that same spot. The server had just restarted, so I assumed the same group (if they were still on the server) would return to gather freshly-spawned loot. I went prone in the treeline, deployed my bipod and glanced through my ACOG. I was waiting there for at least 10 minutes, just waiting. And sure enough, they returned. I heard footsteps, and a little voice in the back of my head went 'OH SH**, OH SH**!'. 6 men in full military gear ran past me, almost 5 metres away. I am amazed none of them saw me. While they were looting, I attached a suppressor to my M4. I raised the ACOG optics to my eyes, and aimed at the head of one of the villainous murderers who's scout had killed my friend. As my crosshairs passed over his head, I fired thrice. The first round missed somehow, while the second and third struck him dead on. I am unsure why, but the suppressor did not work. As the three gunshots reverberated in my ears, I realised with dread that I had just given my position away. I hurriedly folded away my bipod, detached my suppressor and ran. A few kilometres later on, they caught up with me as I filled up at a well. I noticed movement in the treeline and, just as I got up to move, the ground in front of me exploded in a shower of dirt. I sprinted into the nearby trees as distant gunshots mocked me with the inevitability of my death. Sprinting through the pine forest, splinters flying through the air as bullets tore into the trees, as the dirt underneath my feet was churned by the storm of metal. After a while, the gunfire subsided. I realised that I had escaped, I had somehow managed to escape 5 other players, armed with M4s and Mosins, determined to make me pay for the blood of their teammate. I had cheated death. I did a quick round-count, putting me somewhere around 150. I reloaded and refilled my coupled magazines. I checked my gear. My TTsKo jacket was Damaged, and some of the items inside had taken some wear and tear, but otherwise I was fine. I turned East/South-East and ran for several kilometres until I arrived at the spot my group had disconnected. I indulged myself in a can of beans and half a canteen of water. A sigh of relief escaped me as I clicked Abort, and disconnected from the server.

    Friendliest UK servers

Death is part of DayZ. Sadly there are always a few who KoS, but I really wish people wouldn't do it. As I said, death is part of DayZ. Even if it kills me, I always say 'Friendly!' or something. For me, and nearly everyone, DayZ is primarily about loot. But player interaction is also important, and if you KoS you might as well be playing singleplayer. If I die because I didn't KoS, I am disappointed, sure. But 'This is your story' is like the DayZ motto and if my story is that I was shot in the face by a bandit at NWA, so be it. Bandits don't have to be KoS, either. You can 'arrest'/kidnap people, thanks to Dean Hall's hostage mechanics. I just wish that the DayZ community would move away from KoS and move towards the 'Hello, fellow survivor!' player-to-player interactions.
  15. Got a small team of survivors. Most of us are waiting for Standalone, but we still play regularly on the mod. No longer recruiting, so if an admin could lock this thread or something... Lol.

@Jarlaxle - Are you attempting to recruit us? Speaking for myself, thanks for the offer, but I think you should try to recruit on a forum branch dedicated to clan-related conversations and recruitment. I don't get why clans have age restrictions, anyway. Age does not denote intelligence or skill, and even 6-year-olds can be mature when they need to be.

    Gunshop/Gun club

I was thinking a gun club or gunshop would be a good addition to DayZ, as that is probably one of the first places I'd go in a zombie apocalypse and something I feel is lacking from Chernarus. Gunshops/clubs obviously wouldn't be very common, and to keep it balanced they would perhaps have a large zombie spawn and contain mostly ammo, as well as a chance for a few low-calibre weapons. This is a very short post, but I can't really think what else to say, apart from maybe having a back storeroom, with a destructible lock on it. There could perhaps be some military-grade or more reliable/dangerous equipment lurking in the storerooms, but perhaps there could be a nasty suprise lurking back there too, for careless players? Perhaps also Police Stations, containing a small amount of weapons/ammo as well as a small chance for riotgear?

    Gunshop/Gun club

@TheCreeper - Not really. It's be a horrid, disastrous bandit magnet. Not to mention it'd break immersion.
  19. Kill3rCat

    Gunshop/Gun club

@Enforcer - God no. I agree, a trading station or any other kind of meeting place would be a catastrophe. Not only would it ruin the atmosphere of DayZ, but it'd be surrounded by bloodthirsty bandits. I was suggesting a gunstore as a new type of lootable building. As an abandoned gunstore, full of loot rather than a functional shop.
  20. Kill3rCat

    Gunshop/Gun club

@TheCreeper - No, god no! I don't mean like an in-game shop with currency. I mean like abandoned gunstores as a new type of lootable building.
  21. Kill3rCat

    Gunshop/Gun club

@Taco - Yes, well... I live in England and while gunshops are not very common, gun clubs are not so unheard of. Shooting is a sport, although some city folk seem to frown upon guns and panic when they hear the term. @Edoi - Yes, perhaps a hunting shop would be more feasible. @Hogs - Yeah... Outdoors shops are a good idea. I like the idea of the hunting shop though, with camo clothing, tents, hunting rifles, knives and survival gear. @Charb - Did I mention Cherno, Elektro, Solnichniy or any other large city? No. Did I mention DayZ standalone? No. Do I respect your opinions? Yes. I agree, we don't need another 'loot magnet', but I wonder if it'd be possible for gun/hunting/outdoors shops to be spawned in random places in Chernarus, within certain limitations (e.g. not in the middle of a tree, not too far from a road/civilised area, not on the coast). @Enforcer - Perhaps it was a cheap and legitimate source of shotguns and low-calibre weaponry before the infection? If a farmer needed to keep pests away, or if a hunter needed a gun, or if a local had hunting or clay pigeon shooting as a hobby, but didn't fancy peppering everything with an LMG? @Rebel010 - A gunshop might be expected to be in a city, but a gun club with shotguns and stuff would probably be in a more remote, perhaps rural area. I don't like the idea of most of the good loot being by the coast though.

    Looking for teammates...

Sorry for the large period of inactivity. I am still serious and still looking for teammates. Thank you for giving me your contact details, I will be sure to add you all soon if I haven't already. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to play DayZ, and my installation of Skype may have been corrupted because it seems to have uninstalled itself. I will reinstall it ASAP. On 05/04/2013 (DD/MM/YYYY) I will get around to reinstalling Skype and adding you all. Hopefully we'll be able to play soon.

Thank you, Prae. We may well join your clan, however I will have to discuss this with Highway. We are capable to scavenge and fend for ourselves, so no need to worry about us draining recources.
