Where are the updates? **crickets chirping**
[frl]myke replied to Spinnyd223's topic in General Discussion
"Who is developing DayZ? Bohemia being the publisher..blahblahblah....." It might be interesting to read this: http://www.bistudio.com/english/company BIS is a development studion publishing their own games, simple as that...but obviously too complicated for some. But such persons already have a opinion, i wont confuse them with facts...so, go on. -
Well, i don't know about you guys but i do feel pretty well if and how much i'm hungry or thirsty. I don't have to take any special actions to know my status. Icons is the only way to come close to this. The actual system is FUBAR, imho. It is completely counterintuitive and the text messages are inadequate, especially if english isn't your native language. Icons are international, everyone will understand it in a split second.

Warning: continuing this discussion might establish a temporary wormhole. ;)

If you want to address a problem it is helpful to use the correct terminology, else people would mean something completely different than you do and never find a solution. As a 3D modeller and game developer you should know that. It's like you want to say that the texture needs more details but you keep saying "the model needs more details". So you say as a 3D modeler and junior game developer you need google to know what lag or low FPS means? Well, if i had a game developing studio, i wouldn't hire you.
-
The puberty is strong in this thread. ;)
-
Just because people tend to name it lag doesn't make it correct. If you want to make a point you should have at least the terminology right. Lag has to do with network connection and speed, low FPS has to do with either inadequate hardware or settings too high or another hardware/driver related problem.

This is there since ArmA 1 so it is really old.

How does a "rotten" apple become "pristine"?

Unarmed helicopters and the flight model /procedures from Take on Helicopters... -
Better use MSI Afterburner to record vid's. Fraps is known to be a resource hog, Afterburner goes easier with resources. Maybe next time, give it a go.
-
Maybe because they aren't named like "this is a shitty server, don't join"?
-
You don't get my point either. My time where i can play games is rare and limited. When i sit down to play DayZ, i want to play DayZ. Every minute that got wasted by a broken system takes from my spare gaming time.
-
Ok, maybe this way: we're reporting a bug. A system that doesn't work as intended. I do hope that you aren't against bugfixes. The system should punish server hoppers but not regular server changers. It is a bug, fix it.
-
Yep, twisting facts up will surely make it any better. The time i can play is limited, no need to cut this even more artificially. You, Sir, won the internetz.

Note: if you can't be bothered to read long text or making serious thoughts isn't worth your time, please refrain from participating in this thread. Much appreciated, thank you. I know that the game is in alpha. i know the above means that there are bugs in the game. I also know that features aren't not implemented yet and will be coming. And i know that this will take until the end of this year (maybe even longer) as it was announced by the devs. The last few days/weeks i had some thoughts about this game, where it is and where it could go. Also read several topics about what should be done regarding KoS and other styles to play the game. First, i saw a lot of complains about the KoS style. Let's face it, it is a legit way to play the game, no doubt. Doesn't mean i have to like it but i have to accept it. A lot of people raised the opinion that KoS players should be punished, in one way or another. I don't share this thought. KoS players shouldn't be punished, not in some moral way nor in restricting features to them. The opposite way should be encouraged, teamplay and player interaction should be rewarded. Partially such mechanics are already implenented like the defibrilator and bloodbags/saline bags. You need at least one other player to use these which requires a minimal interaction. The game needs more of these kind of features that require player interactions. Books, a big chance. How do you actually learn things? Besides the "learning by doing" approach, people learn by reading. As there are already books in the game, why not include manuals, technical books about various things. Imagine this: before you can start up a helicopter, you would have to read a book about basic helicopter procedures. Maybe with a little quiz which checks if you've actually read it so just picking up the book wouldn't be enough. After that, you could start a helicopter and fly. Now these books would be rare so not everyone would be able to fly. Such a pilot would be a valuable person which is worth to interact with and maybe to protect. The same concept could be used on other aspects, too. You need a certain knowledge level to repair things to pristine level. Say your clothes are badly damaged. With basic knowledge you could repair them to damaged, a level higher to worn and with max level to pristine. Same for weapons and maybe other aspects that aren't implemented in the game yet. This would probably also require to limit knowledge to one or two aspects so a single person couldn't reach max level on everything. Either you can fly or can repair clothes or weapons. Please note that these are just examples as i don't know what features are definately coming. Some might now think that this is bullshit, the game is about survival. You kill others, you survive, you win, right? Wrong. The survival of a single entity is just the beginning. Next step would be to ensure the survival of the human race. You can't provide this if you're just kill everyone on sight. You have to team up, have specialists in your group for each aspect, protect them and feed them as they would probably too busy to do their job and keeping your gear pristine. Now you're probably thinking that this carebear playstyle is boring. Also wrong, this could be very interesting as not all players on the server have to be in the same group. These will mean fight for resources to keep the own group alive. It also means to be a interesting group so required specialists chose to join your group, not the other. War, firefights, intrigues and whatnot can take place. Take the weapon specialist as hostage to repair your weapons. Try to rescue such a specialist from a enemy group. Let your imagination flow, this could raise DayZ to a whole new level. You are not forced to join such a group, you could be a lone wolf who occasionally trades with such groups or ambush them or snipe their base, rob resources and trade it with another group. Get hired to steal something. The possibilities are endless. You still can be a KoS player but this way it is less likely that such a player can have a working vehicle but this wont make the game unplayable for those. Bottom line: we don't need any restrictions for KoS players, we need optional benefits for those who don't (always) KoS. Final note: these are thoughts and ideas, not meant that only this way it will work. Now i'm interested to hear other opinions. Please accept different opinions without flamebaiting, i really would like a serious discussion. Thank you.

Well, don't know about you but i bought the game to play it, not to entertain myself while NOT playing the game. The system is just FUBAR, actually it doesn't prevent server hopping at all but annoys every other player that has been kicked or the game crashed. It is as useless as the copy protections some games has/had. It just pissed of the legit users while it almost has no effect on server hoppers.
-
hehehe...probably. ;)

As said, the questions shouldn't be complicated, just to cheack if the player actually did read it. Such books also shouldn't consist of 100+ pages. Instead of google, one could just simply seek in the book. It is not that the player should have real knowledge of the matter, it is just to check if he justed picked up a book or if he actually put some effort in it. That said, even if the player looks on google for the answers, he had to put effort in it. I know, i suck in explaining things since english isn't my native language but i do hope my point come across.
-
You're obviously not interested in serious participating in this discussion. Please refrain from posting, thank you.

Personally i would like it if there would be a little test (quiz) after the read to check if the player really read it. Anything else seems just ridiculous to me. The question don't have to be very hard, just a check.

Cannot enter medical building with broken legs
[frl]myke replied to Dennus (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
There are quite a few structures which aren't enterable when crouching. Even without broken legs, if you try to get in, your character will stand up. Did cost me a few lives in the mod as i successfully crouched around a few Z's without them noticing me, then got aggroed as my char just insisted to stand up to get in structure without any stairs or even a small step. My bet: they couldn't/wouldn't fix this since the mod, they'll probably never fix it. -

Please read the entire post, don't just pick buzzwords to jump on. Thank you. On topic: first, thank you all for your contribution, really interesting to read. Also thank you to keep it civil, really appreciate it. I see that in general, people are okay with a skill system if it's well balanced and doesn't privilege one sort of playstyle over another. Such a skill system should clearly not restrict players who decide not to use it. It's like in the real world: everyone regardless his education (speaking about ingame edu, not your real, please don't take offense) can be a important part of a society. Ingame, a "simple" hunter is important since the guy repairing a helicopter might not have enough time to go looting for nutrition. On the other hand, players who don't want to use such skills may profit anyway. As a complete fictional example: a shoemaker might improve the shoes of a hunter to make less noise, making the hunter more effective in sneaking up his prey. A tailor might make a ghillie suit (was mentioned already once in this thread). This way, the system isn't forced upon players if they don't like it. They still can shoot a player and take the above mentioned ghillie suit. It's just, right now aplayer is only worth his gear which isn't....dare to say realistic? At least it isn't plausible. And about the skill of weapon handling. That's something that shouldn't be affected by some ingame skill system. People are already good or bad shooters, this skill already translates into the game. Only thing that could affect it should be weapon state. Pristine weapons would be more accurate than a damaged. Again, thank you for your input everyone. Keep it coming.
-
Completely agree. Skills that already translates into the game shouldn't be nerfed at all. Weapon stat (Pristine/worn/damaged/badly damaged/tuined) should be the only influence on that part. :EDITH: And since there were a few very smart people mentioning it: i completely disagree to punish KoS players and i completely agree that this is a legit playstyle, regardless if i like it or not.
