    So So dean hall is now prioritizing mod support so the mod community can finish what he couldnt? Wow this is basically the nail in the coffin.. This is basically him admitting that no more development to standalone is going to come from his hands.. Than why even charge $30 for standalone when the free mod was working fine in the first place? Seems like a get rich quick scheme.. I think steam should start issuing mass refunds and dean hall should be arrested for fraud

    Ha knew it.. I wrote this post two days ago and everyone flamed me for it. "Plus lets look at dean halls track record..as a dayz fan who had super high expectations i obsessively searched up daily news on ANY news websites or blogs dealing with the anything to do with dayz and progress on the standalone. I did this almost daily/weekly for an entire year and a half trying to get the scoop on dayz.. What i found was constant bad news and i initially didnt think dayz would ever come out based on the things i read. First lets start out with the multiple articles about dean hall throwing in the towel several times during development and quitting, Luckily he came back each time but there are also numerous reports of dean hall saying things in interviews like "I am just so sick of zombies" and talking about how he wants to go on to other things.. Not to mention reports of the few people he worked with flat out saying how rocket is very childish and difficult to work with. So would i be surprised if dayz standalone gets quickly labeled as beta than final than abandoned forever? NOT AT ALL.. And why you ask? Because of the fact that throughout all of dayz standalones sucess, he STILL has decided AGAINST starting his own gaming company or opening a studio." I basically called it out that dean hall would do this.. He is like a child in a grown mans body. He states how he is too afraid to take risks and putting other peoples jobs at risk by making changes to the mod that people will not like?? What a wuss! Im glad he is standing down because being a successful game developer is a very risk dependent field. And we need someone who is not afriad of their own shadow to take over dayz..Yeah making billions of dollars is sooo scary right dean hall? So heres an idea lets just promise everyone so much from standalone than quit right after the first wave of all the initial sales.. This is why i've always been against early acess.. You shouldn't give companies money for unfinished games. And the fact that dean hall flat out said that he doesn't see DayZ overcoming it's flaws and becoming the game we all wanted it to be.. MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD US THAT BEFORE YOU PUT A $30 PRICETAG ON IT YOU FUCKING DOUCHEBAG!!!! that just fills me with rage.. If you have no hope in dayz leave RIGHT NOW and spare us all a year of half assed work
  6. EDIT: I mean the formula of the game itself will fail, not fail in terms of sales/business sucess. Dayz will always be a colt classic and a trend within itself When i would play dayz standalone i noticed that there were only a handful of spawn locations alongside the coast.. WelI I noticed something very odd.. At the few spawns further away from cherno or elektro, i would constantly find dead bodies of new players in the same exact spots. Then i realized why.. They are all simply looking for the nearest place to suicide so they can get a better spawn closer to one of the three hotspots. The places i usually find the suicided players are right at the bottom of areas high enough to jump off and die from. Most players simply do not wish to run for hours on end just to get to one of the good loot areas.. and i can't blame them.. I wouldn't want to to do that either. So in a nutshell, there are only two locations that people travel to and only one location that is a primary weapon spawn location.. Which sucks. When people first purchase dayz they spend hours looting regular town homes and sheds and quickly discover that those houses and townhomes are a huge waste of time.. So now instead of scavenging and survival, we are stuck with a game where players first priority is to find the nearest location to kill themselves to get a better spawn location. When thats the case, something isn't working. The WORST possible thing to do in a survival game is arrange loot in pre-set locations.. Thats not survival.. Thats a footrace. Survival should be all about scavenging, chance and luck.. There is WAY too little of that in dayz.. Sure you can stumble across a shotgun in a home if you look long enough, but its impractical to think that players will actually do that when they know that they can just find ten m4's under bunkbeds or in tents at balota military camp.. Sure i know there will be comments of people saying "but i play like a realll survivor and i search every house and bunkbedddd mehh" YES thats good for you and all, but lets get real here.. The average dayz player is well aware that those townhouses and sheds are not worth their time. And thats sad. There should be hope of loot in even the most unlikely places just like in real life. Fun in a survival game should be about PERSISTENCE, SCAVENGING, and LUCK. It's more fun to find loot unexpectedly in an unlikely location than to simply just race all 30 other players to balota..The players who should come out on top are the ones with the most persistence and dedication to search the world of chernarus. Oh yeah and ironically, in a real life apocalypse, city areas like cherno and elektro, and a military camp like balato would be looted first.. So realistically it would actually be the complete opposite.. Those three areas should have NO loot and the only real loot would reside in townhouses/ small villages deep in the mountainside. But in dayz logic does not exist.. If it were up to me i would put rifles and handguns and magnums in townhouses deep in the mountainside and have guns hangign above the fireplaces in many homes. So to make a long story short.. whats the point of all this circled area even being in the game? if you travel a mile into the "uncharted land" the devs don't even bother putting loot in those houses or buildings.. So its like whats the point?

    What i would change first De-Robot the characters. Dayz still painfully resembles the robotic control scheme of the military simulation arma2. Dayz is in dire need of user control overhaul. When you approach another player hilarity ensues..After playing dayz for so long i personally refer to it as the PVP dance.. Aliens from outerspace looking down would probably think it was some sort of bizzarre mating ritual. More times than not when i catch an enemy player offguard they hilariously panic and you can watch in awe as they painfully struggle to accomplish simple tasks. At first they may stop and lift up their fists in an attempt to ready their weapon, than they stop to try again and this time they put their fists down and accidentally do a hilarious fence-step-over animation. Than they finally unholster their rifle and take a few seconds before they remember to "ready weapon"... I have seen players even screw up as much as accidentally pressing sit down or prone by accident. It's pretty funny and sad at the same time. For starters.. They really need to toss out some of these unneccesary charactercontrol mid-steps. -Remove the "ready weapon" midstep. Simplify it to just have the weapon either OUT or NOT OUT like every other game on the planet. (just automatically lowers when you run like any other game) And slightly speed up weapon draw speeds so that players can more readily just press 1 or 2 to take out their weapons. -Completely remove and re-write the god awful running system (double tap forward/toggleC/toggleSHift,toggle control) Just simply make it SHIFT to run and maybe ctrl to walk. And instead of awkwardly double tapping buttons to toggle, just add a checkbox option in the menu labeled "Toggle sprint, or toggle crouch" just like any other game on the planet. This would free up some confusion. -Completely remove the awkward stiff upright forced-walking animation that occurs when walking up a slight incline and replace it with a slow jog. (nobody in real life walks up a hill like that.. They would naturally hunch forward if anything..And especially if zombies are behind them they would not walk upright up the hill) -And why does it take a thousand button pressed to go from prone to crouch to standing back up again? Heres an idea, make crouch and stand up the same key like every other game on earth. -When a player is prone they should be able to press SPACEBAR to stand up in one complete motion without the painful and sluggish crouch midstep.. and if they don't want to stand up in one complete motion guess what! They should be able to just press the crouch key to go back up to crouch! Other things -Autorun -Completely remove the annoying "I feel like having a drink" or "My stomach grows violently" notifications. And add a real system of how much health,food,water we need. -Fix the silly unconscious system (i put 8 magnum rounds in a knocked out guys skull and he wakes up and punches me in abck of head 5 minutes later) -Completely remove the 100% "RUINED" items by a zombie simply punching my backpack one-time. (how can one zombie smack ruin 32 .45 acp rounds??) -At least add an animation for broken leg instead of forcing the user to go prone.. -Add a rotate button to rotate inventory items in bag. -Hold shift to select multiple items in inventory at once -Add a map or at least make them more readily available. -Make all doors open inward as to not push the players -Add spawns inland -Remove all traces of arma2 signs. Game still reveals many signs of arma2..Get rid of that military-like o-key menu to see which players are in the server and just replace it with a simple user friendly TAB menu to see a players list and pings. And ditch the arma options menu and the downright frightening keybind menu.. And even in video options it still says things like "All arma2 trees and grass" Which they probably hide. -Add back the original dayz mod ambient background music -Fix the dumbass fall damage system. -Make an effort to add real loot instead of just clothes (game looks like a VOGUE fashion show simulator) -Make binoculars readily available. -Fix weapon reload/empty ammo system.. If you have ammo that fits a gun you should be able to just use it all without having to maticulously stop and manually drag it into your rifle or put them into a clip.. It results in some real panic/struggle when you are mid-pvp and have to stop and open your inventory to instruct your character to put bullets in a speedloader.. He should already know that needs to be done.

    Christ you guys are some fanboy fags.. Do you know this is a video game? Or is dayz your life so when someone attacks it you take it personalyl? Look up the definiton of a suggestion before you get butthurt. They could add pokemon into this game and you lunatics would find a way in your fucked up heads to rationalize how its somehow unique and amazing What butthurts you the most is you know i am right and all my suggestions are mint you guys are just allergic to logic And how am i a troll by going out of my way to offer my input on what I THINK will make the game better? Are you serioyusly threatened by one users ideas? Last time i checked i have no authority to change or modify DAYZ.. If i was a developer i would probably be making these changes myself to the mod but i cant so the next best thing is postign suggestions on the forums..I want dayz to succeed probably more than most of the people here.. Im addicted to it like no other game i have ever played. Some things i just find frustrating and i would like to see changed.. Otherwise i woudn't come here "jumping into the fire" going against the grain of all you fanboy freakazoids by offering my opinion You nerds are all like "YEAHH ALL TEAM UP ON RANDAL" like you seriously think i care what you think about my fake made up username and harry nilson profile pic?     Who said that? no other engine can offer what dayz requres to be as gritty/real/and atmospheric as well as arma engine can.. Arma engine is really the only option. I don't think you need a new game engine to change controls, but if you think that you might want to pull your head out from your gaping asshole

    From a business standpoint, all the people who ever planned on buying dayz have already spent the $30 for the standalone.. Dayz isn't one of those games that you just find out about by accident and than decide to buy later down the road.. PC gamers know dayz and its a pretty clean cut decision of who will purchase it or not. So like i said, the bulk majority of money has already been made. So from a business standpoint dean hall will realize that there is no logical reason to spend any more time and money working on dayz. I know that sounds messed up, but i wouldnt be surprised if this is how it turns out. I am speaking from experience of the cold world of business. Thats just how things work. Anyone with half a brain knows it takes hundreds of people to make a video game. You can't sucessfully finish a game with the scale of dayz with two developers (his friends who do all the work are basicaly just modders as well).. But the fact that he is still choosing not to expand despite the millions he has made.. Thats just borderline insulting to all the supporters. He just selfishly puts the money in his pocket and says "yeah give us a year or two" meanwhile putting all the stress on the TWO people who activeley develop dayz

    How the hell is a game supposed to get better when you guys just strike down anyone who points out a flaw? If you guys just defend every single problem/bug and pretend its perfectly fine and dandy.. than how the hell are they going to know what to fix? Arent we alpha testers to identify the structural weaknesses and point them out? You guys need to snap out of your fanboy delusion, Besides dayz' amazing atmoshpheric graphics and realistic post apocalyptic feel paired up with its "anything goes" sandbox elements..The game itself really isn't that great.. From an experienced programmer/developers point of view, its really quite a shit coded game. Not a single thing works correctly, its stiff, its awkward, and it's the polar opposite of user friendly .. I thought the entire purpose of standalone was to re-build dayz without any dependence on the shitty coding of arma2. But it seems the exact opposite, its 100% dependent on arma2.. And the very few changes we do in fact see, are simple modification to arma2's code. The only comparison i can accurately make to describe dayz s like lifting the hood of a really expensive sleek looking sportscar and seeing that the engine is made out of toothpicks. And you people dont even read the post, you just see someone attacking your precious dayz and just go into full blown defense mode.. Guess what, dean hall wouldnt have the courtesy to stop and piss on your body if it were on fire. So defend dayz all you want.. If dean hall is such a great guy than why did he slap a $30 price tag on a perfectly functioning free mod? In fact, theres really nothing that i see in the standalone that couldn't have been added right in to the free mod. But whatever.. If arma2 didnt exist and you opened dayz standalone guess what you would see, complete white emptiness and a floating motorcycle helmet. The entire point of the original post was that i wish there was more incentive to explore inland. I WANT to explore inland. But whats the point when there are already pre-set high tier loot locations right near the shore? It's like you guys are suggesting i should just choose the path of MOST resistance and spend hours running inland holding down the W key to make you happy? Get real. From experience i know its a colossal waste of time to go inland. And based on the fact that i never see anyone else inland, apparently im not the only one who thinks that way And how am i narcissistic? Do you even know what that means?

    I know the controls of dayz, i understand that you have to remain calm and collected in dayz in order to be able to sucessfully navigate your inventory as well as equip/holster your weapons correctly in battle. I have my M4 in quickacess slot1, my pistol in quickacess slot2, and my machete in quickacess slot3, i understand that i must equip them and ready them as well before using them. I have been playing dayz since the very early stages of the mod. I know how to control my character. So i run to balota and i hear gunshots so i figured these guys mean business, i see one guy in top radio tower fully geared so with two well placed SKS shots i knock him out... Awesome.. So i run upstairs to the top of the tower and i shoot his downed body 10 times with m4 just to be sure. I hover over his body until i finally can see all his loot. First thing i do is drag his tactical vest with four stanags onto my character and nothing.. The inventory is just completely unresponsive. I than stand up and run to move over a few feet to remove some of my items to start fresh and nothing... No response from inventory menu at all whatsoever. I know how to loot enemies and i even make sure there is nothing in my hands before i begin doing things. So the bottom line is that after a period of about 2 minutes i still can not take a single thing from his inventory nor can i remove or discard a single thing from mine. Than out of the corner of my eye i see his buddy prone crawling along the fence with a shotgun, so i aim down the sights of my m4 and it glitches to where i am literally just looking at the black internals of the gun, so i quickly snap to third person and just fire from the hip 30 rounds until he gets knocked out. So i climb down ladder and run up to his body. To be sure he is dead i calmy press F to ready my m4.. Nothing.. I calmy tap 1 re-equip out my m4 and nothing. I than press 3 to take out my machete and nothing. Just nothing is working. I am literally standing over this guy for about 90 seconds unable to equip or take out a single thing. Just NOTHING. Just nothing is responding. I than press tab to manually press X over "hands" to empty them and re-drag my M4 from the right into my hands slot. He sucessfully puts the M4 into the hands.. I than exit out of inventory and press F to ready my M4 and nothing. Just nothing. And of course the dude wakes up! I quickly say screw it and take out my fists and hit his head about 8 times and he goes unconscious again for another 30 seconds, i than try again to figure out what is wrong with my inventory, and in that time i still am unable to take out a single thing.. than he wakes up again and shoots me multiple times and i die. So here i am standing over this enemy player for a good 90 seconds cool and calm unable to equip a single thing to finish him. Im sorry but in every other game i have ever played in my life you press 1 to take out your rifle, 2 to take out your pistol and it just works. This game is such a stiff, clumsy, awkward piece of shit its not even funny. And its been this way for the past two years. How hard can it be to make a player take out his weapons? This game is shit. I don't care how many times you say alpha. You don't put a $30 pricetag on something like this

    "this happens on other games, much like in call of duty when you throw a grenade it doesn't throw, why do you rage about an unfinished game with a lower bar set?" Uhh never in my 10yrs of gaming have i ever been unable to take out my weapon lag or not And why did my enemies controls/inventory work fine if the server wasnt recieving messages?

    Took me about an hour and a half to finally make my way to balota and its frustrating when you get two clean knockdowns and die in such a stupid way., are there ANY tweaks i can do to either cpu, game config files, or anything to make the inventory more responsive at alll?? I know im easily annoyed but the truth is i am pretty addicted to dayz and just get pissed because It seems like every time i die its as a result of something out of my user control

    Ugly salami terrain?

    One thing that has always bothered me about dayz is certain patches of terrain with these god awful ugly yellow blotches. Everything about dayz looks so authentic and immersive until you lay your eyes on this flat terrain. My guess is that they are trying to make the terrain look detailed and rich with these color variations but it ends up achieving the exact opposite. I am no graphics major or adobe photoshop expert, i just did this in paint in about 30 seconds. I always thought.. this terrain would look so much better if these ugly yellow spots were just plain green.     Pshh if i hear that word alpha one more time im gonna vomit.. 2 years dayz has been in development (supposedly.. although i havent seen any developing).. Dayz was originally supposed to come out in december of LAST year, and no not 2013.. 2012. So keep playing the "its alpha" card its just funny. The fact of the matter is that dean hall through all his sucess so far STILL has not even used a single cent to hire or create a developing team.. He has two or three dayz developer buddies who are the only ones who are actual developers and are responsible for everything we know as "dayz" today (a motorcycle helmet and monkeywrench) and yet he still refuses to ever give any public credit to those guys.. He always goes to press conferences or events like E3 all by himself just standign there all awkwardly.. You will never hear him publicly say dayz is developed by anyone else but himself.. Dean hall is not even a game developer, he has no experience in developing games or has ever belonged to a game company.. He simply made a mod for a game like any 12yr old today can do..Ask dean hall what programming languages he is certified in or ask him to show you videos of him writing code.. He can't.. He is not a developer. And yet he writes "created by dean hall" on the main menu screen of the game.. Who does that? seriously..Do you guys have any idea how many people it takes to create a game? Hundreds.. For him to think dayz is all just him is just borderline mental. But yeah the top selling game on steam for months and he still hasnt put together a developing team.. Even indie dev teams have their own company and name..Whats the name of dean halls game company huh? Whats it called? Dean hall? he writes created by dean hall on the main menu of the game.. It is published by bohemia interactive yes but bohemia interactive works on arma. Not dayz. But if he can brag about how much of a sucess dayz is than why cant he hire half a dozen developers to make a gaming company and get the ball rolling? He has all this money now and still chooses not to make his own company?? wow enjoy your next 8yrs of continuing to call this game alpha. When you really think about it dayz started out as a 4mb file that just replaced arma2's soldier AI with a zombie skin and BAM you call it dayz and it blows up into a huge hit.. Its really just a gimmick at the end of the day. So fanboy all you want but the joke is on you. If any game is a ripoff or capitolizing on someone elses work its dayz. You guys don't love dayz.. You love arma2. You are just too stupid to realize it.

    I would bet money on the fact that i have put more time into dayz mod and standalone than most of the posters on this topic.. Any experienced players know which buildings are worth entering and which arent. And thats the fail formula i am talking about. In a real life apocalypse you wouldnt have psychic people running around already KNOWING which houses/buildings had loot in them without even checking.. The formula should be random like real life

    Too many fanboys.. Yeah its sold millions of copies but look at the server populations nowadays, At the beggining they were all maxxed out and now they all have 1-3 players max.. Nobody is playign it. There were only two servers today with more than 20 players.. "this formula has created one of the most successful games on steam" The fact of the matter is that people just like the idea and trend of dayz.. Nobody actually enjoys playing it

    Wow interesting post, that players mod looks thousands of times better than the default arma textures.. Arma land textures look like shite to be quite frank. I understand they are trying to give it the illusion that it is not flat and undecorated, but ew.. just ew.
