Random Character Wipes/Resets when Joining the same Official Server? [Possible Bug/Discussion]
alaskafish (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
First off; let me get some things out of the way. It seems like people end up blaming it on reasons I state in a long paragraph. I am joining an official serverI am joining the same serverI am properly logging off when I play, there is no combat logging or alt+f4'ing going onI am not hackingI know this is an alphaI did not change any settingsI'm not on a Private hiveDon't say anything about getting attached to your gearMy ping was 28, so nothing about ping lag/errorsServer did not have the red chainI did not die ._. I was playing DAYZ:SA but I seem to have character wipes regardless of which server I join, time I play, or what ever. I can never advance and actually explore the game if my character just resets it's self. Everyday. Every Single Day. And it peeves me a lot. As an Early Access player, I understand that this game is not final, but it is hard for me to give feedback, explore bugs, ect. in order to make the game better if I can not over come this simple bug. I recently placed a topic referring to this same problem, but the attention was very minimal. And another user on this forum did as well. I'd like to address the problem formally and see if any other user is having this same problem, and if it is on the developers "to-fix" list. My Story: Just recently, I was playing DayZ:SA, and in fact I was doing very well. Probably the furthest I got. I had a pistol, the Mosin scoped, a gasmask I found in a house... quite well at night. And when my friends called, they asked if I'd like to meet them in Kamenka. I journeyed there, and met up with them. We then headed up to Zelengorsk, which on a side note, is the farthest north I've been in the Standalone, and looted the super market. After finding some fuel for our gas lantern, we decided to go up a mountain that over looked Zelengorsk. We tested out some light physics (which I personally love so far) by placing the lantern on the ground then walking away. I then decided to go to the bathroom and get my self a snack afterwards because we were just relaxing. So, I disconnect the server (as I always do because I don't want to see that some player found us) and do what I did. So when I return, I press the Play button, not the change server. It placed me back in the server, and while everything was loading, the sounds came in, and all I could hear was the sound of the ocean. And when the game loaded sight, I noticed I had nothing on me except the nine volt battery, the flash light, and the basic starting clothing. So, I called up my friends, and told them what happened. They came down to Kamenka, and picked me up. Later, we go close to Stary, and one of my friends has to walk his dog. So we stay in the tree line, and when he reconnects, he reconnects exactly where he was when he left. No character wipe no nothing. This is very strange for me, since I cannot do anything about it. Assuming it was a bug, today, I reconnect to play with my friends, they all log in, say they're ready to raid Stary once more, but guess what... I spawned in Elektro, with the battery, flashlight, and pants. Yup, another character wipe. So I take the time to explore why this happened. I disconnected the server, and reconnected, but only to see that I was in the same spot, in the same position (Prone), and holding the flashlight in my hand. So, I go kill my self, and respawn. I try the exact same thing, still same result, it was working normally. Then, I join another server. And Same place, same position, same item in my hand. So, I join many other servers. By the time I finished testing and trying to figure out, I had to go (IRL) and do some things with some friends. I later return at about 9:20 pm, and join a different server (so I could see if it was my regular server or not). Sure enough, spawned in Cherno, with my battery, and you know what else. So, my question is if this is documented as a bug or not? Could it be some sort of server hopping prevention mechanic? Even though I was on the same server at first. I just can't understand what's causing only me out of a group of my friends to have it. I'd expect more people to have it, if not everyone, as everyone has the same game. Could there have been an update today? I have updates set to manual, so I know when they come out, and there was only one yesterday.... Not today. Please, if you could possibly post your story, and if it so happened. If you have any idea why, also tell me. Lastly, if any developers or team members bring this to attention, that would be amazing. And if you have any questions, feel free to post hem. Because, all in all, this whole problem makes it so players cannot "test" and explore the game. I put test in quotations because, believe it or not, some people are actually testing the game while they play it, like me and my group. -Alaskafish PS - Don't delete this thread... Ty. -
Im playing stock DayZ. No servers show up, regardless. Ping set to 0 (Which means all server will come up). The only servers I get are Australian ones with pings over 1000.

I have a question? I was going to get the Alienware but what problems do they have besides being overpriced? Because I was thinking of buying one, then some people mentioned things like overheating and stuff like that.

Locking sound when trying to open a "locked" Door.
alaskafish (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
You know how all the buildings are no fully enterable. They have a few rooms that you can't go in. If they (the devs) are going to fix this in the future, that's great. I'd like to see more rooms in the ATC towers. Otherwise, they should add a door locked sound or text that pops up when you try to open these doors that aren't really doors but something pasted on the wall. It'll help newbies out when they try to open a door that's not actually a door. Sorry if the writing is awful, my hands are cold. -
Okay, here me out. I went up north to the new town of Svetlojarsk, and dear god, it looks amazing. It looks like an actual town, or even an actual village. It looks natural too. Just the small things like the stairs on the side of the roads and the new buildings, it makes it look like an actual living, breathing, town. Even the way the roads work, the way the fences are placed, ect. Svetlojarsk Map Anyway, When I made my way back down, I walked into Berezino, and I must say, the layout, the roads, and everything is just... "Me no like". It looks like a very weird village city thing. What I mean is there is one main road, through a field and there's a just like 2 buildings on behind each other on the road. There's houses with not even a path way to it. In fact, there's this one house, completly enclosed by it's own fence, not even a gate way into it. It looks like a poor mans Sim City project, just spamming houses with no roads near them. They need to change these cities from the mod. Walking into Svetlojarsk was like a completely new feeling for a DayZ Vet, so I think it's time for these cities to change completely. Add those new buildings, hell, add a side walk. Put some trees and some more roads. There doesn't need to be just one road going through the town, make an intersection, put some stop signs or some traffic lights. Make the town center (the one with the tank) more realistic. Add some newspaper vending stands. Some cars on the streets. A Parking lot for the hospital. Berezino Map I personally think the Devs went too quickly through the original ArmA II towns. They just added those semi-enter-able buildings. Novy sobor had the updates, and I think they should do that. But too ALL towns. Hopefully the devs could fix the towns. I don't know if it's on their work list, or what not. But I really hope it's something they're gonna add in the future. I hope they don't think Cherno is finished.

ArmA II towns need more love.

What I mean, there's only those small changes. Not layout wise. If you changed the layout, you'd have a new-er feeling to the game. -
What I mean is that, obviously everyone plays through steam, it's just that when the game was released on steam, the people who found out about the game through steam and knew nothing about it are doing the combat logging. I know not everyone is, but a lot of the DayZ veterans are trying to play the game as a hero, not like a bandit, they're trying to communicate with other people and help. They're trying this because they want a good community. But when these noobs (who came from steam) join, they don't know the best way to play, or how to socialize in game, they're not use to losing gear, and so they combat log.

regardless, the satellites are in space, still sending things back, and still making electricity (solar panels). I think it's possible from them to work. Unless it's a GPS that requires data to be sent to an antenna first then to the gps.

Fix The North West Airfield (Nwaf) [Civilianize]
alaskafish (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
Honestly, it looks like the same old airstrip from the mod. A run down Russian military base is what it is. I'd rather see it more civilian based, but with a few military buildings here and there. Like just add some civilian buildings and keep the military loot sights. My reasoning for this is that when someone says "Let's go to NWAF" that simply means, lets get some guns and stuff. And personally, NWAF shouldn't be a military airfield, it should be an airport. I know loads of you will think that it will make it a bigger hotspot. And yes, it would, that's kind of the point. We need the 'big daddy' of hotspots. This place. We want people to think not twice, but 5 times before they go to it. Here's what I'd like to see with the new NWAF: Firstly, I'd like to see a terminal building. Something not big like JFK or Heathrow, but something small. Maybe a big bigger than the image I have provided. Something with some ticketing booths, metal detectors and security, and then the waiting area with some Duty Free shops and stuff. Then you can have two boarders... you know those things with the walkways that connect to a plane? Maybe you could have one attached to a plane you can actually go inside and loot. Or maybe there could be no boarders, so you have to do it the old fashioned way; go outside and board it through a ladder outside. I'd also love to see a new and improved ATC tower. The one we have now is this run of the mill, military one, that looks like it belongs at an airfield. Not an airport. Something with a lot more floors, taller. Maybe there could be military and supplies there. Lastly, I'd like to see some random things, like a parking lot full of cars to loot. Like those parking lots you can park your car in when you travel? Or maybe hotel like the one in cherno minus the crashed plane. I'd also like to see a crashed in the field south of the NWAF. As if it was coming in for a landing but crashed. It may symbolize, "hey, your close to NWAF, get ready. I'd like to see some garages for those aircraft maintenance vehicles. Maybe when vehicles are added, we can start driving around cherno with our ladder truck or what not. EDIT: I think Balota isn't big enough to support the planes such as the one that crashed into the hotel in cherno. That's the whole reason this thread is up. I wondered why a giant propeller plane crashed into the Cherno Hotel. First, I thought it was landing at balota, or taking off, but balota is much too small for planes like that. There's no taxi space, and I can't picture two of those planes at Balota in one sitting. And it makes sense that the International airport is far from the city. The drive from JFK to New York City is about 15 minutes. Just now, I timed the drive (in ArmA II) from the south most part of NWAF to cherno at 60 mph and got 17 minutes and 56 seconds. Balota is about a 1 to 2 minute drive, if not less. Again, I'm not saying change NWAF to civilian, I mean make it civilian and military. JFK (sorry for the over used example) is for civilian planes, that's what we see. But the military uses it as a runway for large military aircraft, like the hangers where we civilians can't go. So half of the airport can be for civilians, whereas the other can be for military. And hopfully, we can call the North West Airfield more of an Airport. (NWAA anyone? ) Don't hate, just an idea. -

They'll add fatigue. It's not OP either. If someone shoots you, you can't get your gun in time, nor a melee weapon. -
Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782
alaskafish (DayZ) replied to apollovulcan's topic in General Discussion
Should be both. Sit down for 30 seconds, logout, character stays on server for another 30 seconds. You can't connect to another server in those 30 seconds. Stops combat logging, ghosting, and some server hopping. -

I think it's the steam noobs that are combat logging the most. They're too attached to their gear, and don't have good DayZ etiquette.

Combat Logging and Server Hopping [Suggestions]
alaskafish (DayZ) replied to NathanShepard's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The server hopping idea is awful. Just saying. What if I join a server, and it's night, so I leave? I can't since I'm locked to a night server What if I join a server, but the ping is too high? I can't leave, since I'm locked in. What if my friend says to join "this" server, but I join the wrong server? Can't leave, locked in. I don't think you thought of this ideas... -
It's been about 2 weeks, and I have no server's popping up.
alaskafish (DayZ) posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I have perfectly fine internet, in fact it's faster than 75% of people. :P Anyway, I launched DayZ (Before and After the update) and go to "Servers", and I had zero servers. Then I clicked Refresh, then again, then again, waiting, and nothing happened. I waited a few minutes (15 minutes was the longest) and yet nothing happened. I checked the filter to see if anything was doing anything, sure enough, my filters were default. I've disabled my anti-virus stuff and tried again, I've tried re installing it. Heck, I got a new internet upgrade and yet it still doesn't work. Sometimes, I'll get 4 servers pop up, with great ping, but no one's on them and they're no official. Regardless, I don't know why I have this issue. I've seen something on the multiplayer menu ">100", I guess it filters servers with ping under 100? Can I change that? Thanks to 360Nation Solution: Filter then set max ping higher or lower. -

Thanks. That's all i needed. See, I live right outside of the United States due to my job with the UN, and I like to play some dayZ here and there. Generally my ping is 102.... for a host near some buds where I'm from. -

I'm sorry, but we really need a quick fix for combat logging. Since DayZ was released on steam, EVERYONE is doing it. Especially the coming steam newbs... since there's no punishment. As of now, it may be hard or a annoyance to code for some amazing combat logging system. My suggestion is just have the logout timer have a 30 second count down. I think that would be incredibly easy because I made a script for ArmA II for that exact reason. One thing I'd like to see in the long run is Rust's (By Gary Newman) sleeper system, where when you disconnect you body falls to the ground, and anyone can get it. Maybe a little too annoying but it would stop combat logging.

I remember Rocket in his Dev blogs, or his teaser videos he flew around Utes which was added to Chernarus + to the south of Skalisty island; among with many other islands. Why aren't they added? Too big? Rushed?

What Happened to Utes?

I have solved the server hopping/combat logging forever
alaskafish (DayZ) replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like what you said before... the first part... But really? I mean, what if the server crashes? What if it goes down? What if it's going to restart? What if your friends are on another server? What if I'm trying to find a daylight server or a night time server? What if I join a server and my ping goes to high? What if I need to take a piss or go eat dinner? Nope! You can't join, because you need to wait 16 minutes until you join. Or, you could play for 60 minutes straight through. That's fine. I like that. But the rest is bad. -

I like the new GUI and Inventory system I like the way you can customize weapons and characters... (Love this) I like how there are small med kits you have to take out and open, or ammo boxes I like how food is rare... makes me need to go find stuff I like the the new buildings I like the new towns up north I like how it's about surviving and not deathmatching I like the medical system, makes it feel more serious I like the Melee combat (if you can believe that) I don't like the zombies (Mainly the bugs.) I don't like bugs and glitches I don't like how the KOS mentality was brought over I don't like how servers are too small... player count wise I don't like the lack of items (It's an alpher... I know) I don't like how bodies disappear (Zombies and players alike) -
Yeah... Zombies go through walls... completely.
alaskafish (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
There is this one zombie on me right now. As I type. I can not get him off of me because every building, tree, object I go around, it goes through. Only place I can hind is anything with stairs. They go through the stairs, and not up them. Probably a game breaking bug. Fix ASAP. Yes, I know it's the alpha, but just reporting it. -
Hostage-taking - probably a terrible idea
alaskafish (DayZ) replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In fact, how do you put handcuffs on someone... who's to stop you from running away while you try to stop. If anything, I'd rather die then have blood taken away and my loot taken away.
