Hello all. I have been following/viewing many interviews on the Dayz standalone and have had an idea. There seems to be a promise on base building underground in an instance-like function much like way you enter someone's house in skyrim. Mostly because building above ground will cause too much lag to be pheasable. I have thought of a tiered entrance system to limit access to your base but still making it possible to raid. Tier 1 Cave Entrance Requires: Shovel Locking Mechanism: none Forced access: none This the basic entrance to your base. It is made by simply digging a large hole with a shovel. The is no limit to access. Anyone and everyone can enter at will. Tier 2 Wooden Entrance Requires: Cave Entrance, Wooden Planks, Padlock Locking Mechanism: Padlock Forced Access: Fire Axe or Explosives. An axe will destroy the padlock making the door unlockable until the padlock is replaced. Explosives will destroy the entrance, reverting it back to a basic cave entrance. This is the first level of limiting access to your base. It is a wooden lockable door blocking the entrance to the base. It cannot be accessed with the basic hacket, but rather a more heavy duty fire axe. Tier 3 Concrete Entrance Requires Wooden Entrance, Concrete, Steal rods. Lock mechanism: Multiple bolt locks Forced Access Explosives will destroy the bolt-lock rods making the door unlockable until the rods are replaced. Filling the wooden frame with concrete, you make your entrance unaccessable via an axe but still vulnerable to explosives. Tier 4 Steel Entrance Requires Concrete Entrance, Steel Panels, Circuits Lock Mechanism Access Panel Forced Access Hacking Plating the concrete with steel panels, you make your entrance invulnerable to explosives. The only way to force your way in is with a skilled hacker. One issue that came to mind is having masses of these bases/holes all over the place. I'd suggest a system where if the owner doesn't access the base within 3 weeks, an email is sent with the server name/co-ords of the base. 1 Week later if the base is still inactive, the entrance is automatically deleted. Thank you for reading my thoughts. As this is the first draft proposal, this idea is open to discussion.
