  1. I'm hoping with the new loot system things are more distributed. So instead of relying on the three main sites for items you can find everything you need elsewhere. You'd still be able to find loot faster in the main spots but it wouldn't be almost a necessity to hit those spots first. Or at least distribute the high end items more evenly to avoid the bottlenecks. Like being able to find military gear in military truck wrecks. Military roadblocks or corpses with gear would be another good way to distribute this. So even though you could get more military loot at the NWAF, it would be possible to find the same things in smaller quantities elsewhere. Maybe even small military camps out in the woods. Which would make those long treks through the woods cooler and more rewarding. I think one big thing that could help would be spawning randomly across the map. Instead of having spawn points along the coast. Make each town/city it's own point that you spawn within 1500m. Then you'd be good and lost. Starting inside a house or near a tent would be cool too, make a quick look around for anything you can grab then get out. Just being able to spawn on the coast and head for Cherno or Elektro makes things a bit too bottle necked. Plus it would largely end sniping noobs for sport. The two big cities are of course still going to be death traps, as they should be. But I'd like to be able to play the game and see players in places other than there.

    Just have to avoid getting hit. Combine speed and stealth at the right times. The zombies in the mod are very dumb so it won't be long before you learn their AI behavior. Slow down a bit, keep your eyes open and don't get too close or get cornered.
  3. Based on the latest devblog it looks more like Arma3 than Arma2, visually speaking. The animations and lighting etc. But yes, it is the 'DayZ' engine since it shares elements from the 3 game engines. I'm sure someone will port DayZ over to A3 sometime. But with the SA being done before then and looking almost(?) as good the SA will be a better option. Not that porting DayZ over to A3 is a bad idea, it just might not be necessary as most of the player base will be playing SA or the A2 mod. Time will tell. I'm looking forward to the new inventory system. Looks like it will be similar to A3 with some DayZ tweaks for crafting and customization. Can't wait.

    It's simply a balancing act. Make it realistic enough to be a challenge but not so realistic that it becomes totally unenjoyable. It can still be frustrating at times, sure. But not to the point of everyone rage quitting for good after a couple of deaths. Running at a marathon sprint while carrying a .50 cal rifle, water bottle and cars parts is unrealistic too. If you crave the ultra realism then make a further modification of the DayZ mod like people have done with DayZ+ and 2017. I'd probably play it. I think I heard the term Mountain Man Simulator 2013 somewhere around here once. But making things hyper realistic isn't easy either. You can only model reality so well in a game that can be run on a consumer level computer.

    Well, for one stop running in cities for loot. High risk, high reward. Take it slower and head for the hills. Find some barns to loot and get geared slower. You'll learn the game. It takes a while.

    Yeah, I lost my character w/ DMR, NVG, rangfinder, GPS, etc etc today. Oh well, I died. Time to start over, that's the fun part.

  9. No, we're not blind. You missed someone because you were switching views like you were having a seizure instead of following up on your shots. You ran out from cover into the MIDDLE of an empty lot and were shot and killed because you didn't check your corners or stay behind cover. You suck bro, but it's ok, I suck at PVP too. But I don't post youtube videos of my epic fails and cry into my milk about it. As to the OP, same thing. Maybe you don't suck but made a mistake and someone got the drop on you. Oh well. It's a free mod, feel 'free' (pun intended) to stop playing anytime. If I ever get sick of this game that's what I'll do.

  12. I just totally avoid private hives that say 9999+ vehicles, starting loot, etc. anyway. Why would I pay money to ruin the game for myself? Gear in dayz is meaningless if not found, it has no value. Unless you shoot a hacker in the back and take his gun. Then it's pretty well earned. I learned a long time ago that cheating in games totally ruins the fun. The last game I used cheats in single player was Quake II (1997). Donor perks are just a semi legit way of cheating, but if that's what floats yer boat then sure, but you won't catch me on your server.

    Now this is a legitimate gripe. I see what you're saying. Maybe try to go back to fewer types of meat. Or better yet, keep the variation in the texture on the cans etc and make them all stack into one pile. If that's even possible.

    Yeah, I was kind of enjoying the Z's new perception, I got used to avoiding them. Will have to try out the new patch.

    No kidding, duh, attack helicopter. Not remotely fair. That would be like staying on a server when people start to fuck with a hacker and he gets pissed saying "I'm gonna kill all you!"

    Weapon Customisation

    The M24 is a military version of the Remington 700 chambered for 7.62x51 NATO. The Remington 700 has lots of aftermarket parts available. It has been chambered for dozens of rounds and can be modified for custom wildcat rounds. BUT, that I think is outside the realm of the game since you would need to be an experienced gunsmith and have nothing short of a machine shop to complete a chamber/barrel change. Not to mention a different bolt and whether it's a short action or long action. We have to be reasonable with respect to what is possible to do in-game and can be implemented in a way that can be semi-realistic but not ridiculous. Suppressors for example can work with most types of guns but since most guns don't have threaded barrels I think the workbench makes sense. Just to justify being able to install a mod on a gun not typically equipped for one. Plus it would be cool to have a workbench in your underground base!

    This. Tactical AND practical. Don't worry about the weight. An M107 still weighs more by a long shot. In all seriousness though, I like the workbench idea. It would allow modifications without being able to do it on the fly.

    I kind of avoid hackers by playing lower pop servers. They typically don't bother with those. I'm a lone wolf player and prefer to play where player encounters are rare. I like the feeling of being alone surviving and it makes the odd encounter more exciting.

    We get a full featured hunting game without having to buy Cabela's Big DooDoo Hunter 2015? AWESOME! Seriously though, I'm looking forward to the survival aspects taking center stage. Hunting being one of them. Hopefully it will be a decent challenge.

    I see both sides as having legitimate points. I prefer the limited number of names idea. Have maybe 2-3 profiles to accommodate play style changes as well as keep griefers from just changing names willy nilly.

    Hehe, my most depressing death was simply starving to death since I was a noob looking in the wrong spots for food. My most recent, like 20 minutes ago was just because I was sloppy. Parked my car a few hundred meters from the Stary military tents and ran in looking for loot. Grabbed some stuff and headed back. Sat in the car to drop my loot instead of driving off. Shot in the back of the head. So, I lost the GAZ, an m107, FAL, DMR, cz550 and enough other gear for probably 3 guys. Meh, oh well. Start again.
  24. Posted on my phone earlier, it didnt take. I think you may be missing the point. I don't think rocket at any point wanted to make any aspect of the game easier. Everything I've heard from his interviews and comments has been geared towards a difficult, unforgiving sandbox in which players make the game theirs by their actions. At no point has the game held your hand to make anything easier, you just learn how to survive. Cars shouldn't be easy to get and maintain. Imagine how it would ruin the immersion to see fleets of cars cruising everywhere. Easier is not better. That being said, I feel the standalone has room for mods which would give players such as yourself the opportunity to change things so you can have an easier experience. Or less annoying, however you want to look at it. Or just play wasteland, has plenty of cars you dont need to repair, plenty of guns and ammo, no zombies etc.

    Traps, not just bear traps. I've never even seen one in game. Like a grenade (smoke, frag, whatever) attached to a tripline. Even a road flare as a warning or distraction. Punjii pits with big ol' spikes at the bottom. How awesome would it be to dig a hole with spikes in it then run a whole pack of zombies into it? Awesome.
