    Can´t find any crash site

    They're still around but significantly rarer. I also noticed that the ones I have found the loot quality is pretty unspectacular. 4 M1014s and one M4 on one, ammo can on another with some tin cans etc. and I think one decent weapon. No NVG or top end loot that I've seen. I'm fine with the current rarity but at least put in something worthwhile to risk life and limb for.

    First Play Duration

    I remember early on heading out to the wilderness, not really knowing where to go. I got hit by a zombie, didn't know how to bandage. I eventually stopped bleeding but was somewhere below 3000 blood. Kept passing out looking for food and water at crappy little towns. Got a double barrel shotgun which was amazing to me at the time. I really was fighting for survival. Came up on a barn in the middle of nowhere and a zombie started towards me, I shot once missed and promptly passed out again. He ate me. One of my early lives I had an Enfield rifle and was running around somewhere north of cherno. I shot a few zombies and ran out of ammo. Ran for a deer stand to escape the zombies, I didn't know they could climb ladders. I died trying to pick up the glock on the floor. Those were the days. When you could die of zombie attack or starvation at any time. Now my biggest concern is finding a good place to stash my extra stuff and trying to find NVGs.

    Everybody heads for cherno!

    Yeah, but Cherno isn't swarming with players. I just got on yesterday and it was a good experience. No fear of hackers, no crazy Cherno DM. I'm not affiliated with BB other than being whitelisted on the server but it really is a better experience. It seems like a more experienced player base. Jus' sayin'.
  4. Everything really. it's pretty much a self contained utility for playing DayZ. Has everything but maps and teamspeak. Just download it and try it out. But like I said just earlier you have to use either commander or steam, not both. Commander is all I use, I tried steam but then I had to use the in game server browser, which sucks.
  5. Yeah, use commander. Wow, first thing you do in your new house with your new internet is DayZ stuff. Addicting. But with commander you get a much better server interface and all the correct updates. If you use steam it will mess up commander's install of the beta patches for Arma2. Plus with commander you can run it without steam, even if you have the steam version of Arma2.

    whats your favorite gun for slaying survivors

    Well, I walked into a second story room in Cherno yesterday and came eyeball to eyeball with a guy in a headwrap and a Mk 0. I had an AKSU so that was my favorite at the moment. Shot him in the head. Might have hesitated or backed out of the room, but the bandit skin makes me... jumpy. So yeah, my favorite is whatever I have in my hands at the time. It's survival, so I don't have a favorite.

    CZ 550

    I've only found the cz550 maybe twice I want to say. I find ammo all the time. Yeah, not as convienient as the M24 or DMR but I like it. It feels more like Dayz should be. It should be a lot more common. It makes me feel like a survivor, not a mercenary. I don't think it's a very good thing that I've found several M24 and DMR rifles in the same span only found 2 550s. I might just be looking too much in military loot areas. Meh.

    DayZ Standalone - crosshair

    I have no preference about cross hairs in the current mod. It's not even a consideration when I pick a server. The iron sights are a lot better when actually shooting. The cross hairs I guess are useful for shooting goats or the odd zombie. But not really for serious shooting. Maybe it's because there is currently no good way to simulate point shooting besides decreasing accuracy. Point shooting is when you are well practiced at firing a weapon and can shoot targets at short range with a good degree of practical accuracy without actually aiming down the sights or scope. I mean practical accuracy by being able to hit center mass at 20 yards or so. I think cross hairs have their place as a way of simulating this. So, before inviting myself to a flame party for espousing an idea that isn't uber realistic. It is possible to fire a weapon accurately to a degree at short ranges such as within a building without actually aiming. Yes, I have done it, no it is not extremely accurate, that's not the point. Also similar is shooting a recurve bow with no sight. It's called instinctive shooting. After a while, you know where to shoot. Since there is no sight so you must line up your shot with your body, bow and target picture. So in short, cross hairs aren't an evil non realistic feature to be shunned at all costs. I'm all for realism but it does make a good way of lining up a close range shot.

    Yep, annoying and stupid. Sometimes it's pulled off in a humorous/clever way but it usually just makes you appear to be an annoying 12 year old. I'll just wait for someone to prove my point.

    Well, Rocket said he wanted an anti-game. A kind of social experiment. If that what it turns into, death and mayhem, then I guess the experiment was a success. For better or worse, we found out how people behave within this game. I still find people who are friendly. I just want less servers with side chat. Totally removes a lot of the tension. ANYONE IN CHERNO???? IM FRENDLYY. <_<

    Yeah, I can agree with that. I'm sure DayZ SA will be modded extensively. So there are plenty of things that can be explored as option for your perfect play experience. While maintaining the pure DayZ experience on the public servers. Variety is the spice of life.

    I won't reply to the poll since my answer is grey. I think it could be cool. But I think there are already servers with this right? I'm betting they aren't implemented well and are basically a walking source of loot. I think it would be cool if they were somewhat rare and maybe would only spawn in low pop servers. Kind of like cars. Rare to find, only a certain number per server and not always spawned in the same spot. They would have to pose a decent threat or be semi neutral and provide assistance(?). Maybe have one next to a tent in the woods, near a car or high value loot area. They could be cool but I'm not sure it would work out well. I'm obviously against them being walking loot piles. In keeping with the spirit of the game, shoot them, interact with them or just leave them alone, player's choice.

    The walking indoors wasn't really an ideal feature of the mod. It was necessary to prevent them from running through walls and other some-such. Arma 2 really wasn't designed with close quarters AI in mind. Even getting around objects can be a bit out of reach for the A2 soldiers.

    Not necessarily true. I have a 6850 which was a mid range card three years ago and it runs smoothly at almost max settings. View distance in DayZ is set at 1600m i think. 10k view distance in Arma 2 will eat your video card. I'm sure a 7850 which is only $150 right now will run it even better.

    He didn't say they would be slower specifically but at 17:30 approx in the devblog he said their speed was made "insanely" fast to compensate for the bad pathfinding. So you could extrapolate from that statement that he intends the Zs to be slower when pathfinding is improved.
  18. Anyone here HALO or HAHO jump qualified? (crickets) Ok, didn't think so. I certainly am not. Although I have met and worked with a few people who are. They are very highly qualified former military (20+ years, retired) with hundreds or thousands of jumps. I don't think the DayZ survivor would fit this category. Even most jump qualified military personnel do not perform these types of jumps. You need an oxygen mask as well. I'm not even sure if any jump from an airplane in the Arma series would qualify as high altitude (15,000' MSL or above). What I want to know is if it's the apocolypse and you have a plane that can fly at 15,000', why would you jump out of it? It doesn't even make sense.

    So Tiger kind of answered this in the above post but here's my 2 cents as well. First of all, the devblog showed the new ai pathfinding in its roughest form. The player and 'zombie' were at the same speed and it showed only the basic principle of the new system. He also mentioned that the zombies are currently "insanely" fast to compesate for the old crappy A2 pathfinding(17:30 on the the latest devblog). So their speed could be slowed a bit to make it even possible to lose zombies. Obviously the easiest way to lose Zs right now is to basically exploit the weaknesses in the pathfinding system instead of try to outwit, outrun or sneak past. Rocket is obviously an intelligent guy. They'll come up with a good system and it will get tweaked as the game progresses. Remember, he's releasing the SA as an alpha as well. Although probably more of a polished alpha than the mod. I have faith, it will be badass.

    It's not a bug, it's DayZ. Rocket's own words pretty much sum this up (they've been re-posted countless times) and I'd have to agree with the fact that its supposed to be unfair and brutal. I hadn't been killed by zombies for quite some time then over the past few days I've been killed by them maybe 3 times. Then I died three more times in an Elektro deathmatch. Everything in the game involves risk, no matter how you try to mitigate it it is supposed to be a dangerous world. Sounds to me like someone should create DayZ- (more hitpoints, fewer zombies, no bleeding/unconciousness, increased loot spawns). I'd bet it would be popular given the number of private hives with starting gear and a million vehicles.

    changing main weopon to hatchet?

    I'll bet it makes it in the SA. I'd like to see the hatchet replace the sidearm in the mod though. Would be a good compromise for using the hatchet without having to sacrifice defense from bandits. It's tough to decide which to use since you basically are the mercy of other players with the hatchet, unless of course you're eyeball to eyeball.
  23. Huh, been playing A2 for years and never knew about this. Never got terrible performance so I never thought to tweak things. But If it is only using 512mb at 'very high' I've been missing out. Going to check this out. Unless my vram is set to max already.

    Usual cause of death: Bleeding

    10 hours? Nothing? I could see that if you were wandering in the wilds of Chernarus but Elektro should give some pretty decent stuff with just one run through. There is no difference in loot spawns depending on server pop so maybe it is just a weird server setting.
