I have had a lot of fun playing DayZ as a bandit but I get tired of some of the ridicule I get on servers so I've come here to vent, and because I'm bored on a slow night at work. :P 1) Killing fresh respawns. Yes. I kill people who have recently spawned at the beach. Frist of all THEY JUST SPAWNED it's not like I'm wiping any progress so I don't know why this is such a hot issue some nights. If that's all I wanted to do all night, I would be a bit of a douche and I don't do that, but it wouldn't be that big of a deal. The #1 advice for fresh spawns is to stay away from the coastal towns anyway. When I am beginning a new life. Double starting equipment, especially refillable canteens and Mak ammo that gets popped like pop corn, is very valuable, and extra food means I can sprint north for longer without stopping. I do not 'grief' people by killing fresh spawns once I'm set up, and avoid killing players for no reason unless they have the same weapon type and I can replace the ammo I use. HOWEVER if I am near Cherno/Electro hunting other well equipped bandits and a freshly respawned player spots me, many of these geniuses will attempt to have a firefight with their makarov from two blocks away. I do not need stupid comments about killing fresh respawns when fresh respawns use me to suicide by bandit. 2) Camping. Yes. I camp like a bitch. It's safe, effective, and the counter to the tactic (extreme vigilance) is both difficult and not fun so most do not bother. When I am high on food and water, but down to a last clip of long range weapon, the best thing I can do is find a major path away from the coast, go prone somewhere a bit elevated, and camp like a whore until some one comes running up with a rifle for me. As a tie-in to #1, killing a makarov wielding noob is an excellent way to bring 'better' players. They will investigate the gun fire, and inevitably attempt to loot the body making for an easy shot. ProTip: Do not loot coyote pack survivor bodies in the open. :) 3) Lying. Yes. I lie and con like a bastard. When I am shot at the first thing I do is say friendly even though I will most definitely kill every player I meet if I'm low on any supply. When someone says they're entering my town I tell them I just left and it was quiet. If someone needs morpheine or a transfusion or something, I'm their man because I love shooting people who tell me where they are and can't run away or can't aim. The meaning of being ruthless to survive does not end with shooting people. Luring people, promising people things, listening in on conversations people have on side, breaking up events, even working co-op temporarily is all fair game and there is nothing to say otherwise but that you don't like it. Any 'code of conduct' you have thought up is pure fiction of your own making and it's a sad assumption far too many make when they think the rest of the game abides by it. 4) GAY WTF STUPID BULLSHIT When something is too obvious, it's obviously a trap. When I shoot the morpheine guy in #3 that you and I have both been talking to from some building and then start coming directly down... it's a safe bet that I'm NOT THAT DUMB so when you lay there in the one spot that can see both the main street and the body giggling and thinking you're so slick and end up with 45acp in your ear, don't get mad at me because you're bad at tactics on a realistic military shooter mod. DayZ's map is very plain. There is usually only one hill with a good line on a certain group of buildings you can go inside. Usually only one building you can get to the roof of, with line of sight to a key area and people think they're so smart for finding it, but going to that hill, bush, or on top of that building, is SUICIDE if a competent bandit comes to town. Even if they're not as thoughtful as to counter those places, chances are good they will at very least sneak up to that spot to use it themselves, and notice there's someone there! 5) I am not a bad person. I get called things like 'fag' or get cursed at. Lets be realistic here. I do not shoot people in the back IRL. I am a nice, generous, helpful player on other games. I spent years helping to admin a family server for a shooter game where I banned people for saying bad words or playing mean. This is just how I like to experience DayZ. Me vs the world. Comments about how I must be 11 and live in Mom's basement are really unnecessary. You are allowed to be mad. Not trolling... lolumad? hurrdurritrollu... No. I'm serious. Permadeath and loss of equipment is harsh. A person can get MAD when their progress is cut off by a lying cheating bastard, but when you chill you need to remember I'm another obstacle on the way to survival like anything else. Finding food, finding water, killing zombies that aggro you, and dealing with bandits. And by the way, just because you and your friends are on a voice chat doesn't mean you are the center of the universe. I am not your 'party crasher' or some kind of asshole for messing up your game any more than the zombies are. I am part of the game you came to play and if you trust me that's no different a mistake than running through town and aggroing a horde, or sprinting off into the wilderness with no food or water. 6) HAHA YOU SUCK I KILLED YOU The map in this game is 225 square miles but even the edge of that map can be gone past with hills and vallies, and that means you are never aware of where the enemy can come from so when I shoot someone who is looking at their map in the middle of no where, or someone who just logged on, or is looting a loot pile in a house and I just happened to notice them through the window as I went by I do not talk shit and neither should you. Shooting me in the ass from a mile away while I go up a tree stand is a great for you. Congratz, you employed an effective strategy to kill a player and loot his corpse safely. But don't act like your opportunity was their mistake or that your strategy was some kind of contest against them that you won. Should everyone go prone under the nearest car or sprint past the zone barrier and wait to starve so they never get shot? Of course not. Someone may on any given day have the drop on you, and you may have the drop on someone else. Just accept those situations for what they are and don't make more out of them. 7) This is not Call of Duty / Counter-Strike / Quake All this translates to, is that you've logged onto a shooter game expecting to play an RPG. Either you shoot at things or you don't. You obviously do. Now, knowing you need to shoot at people and are going to be shot at, various tactics come into play once two people realize "it's me or him". Running, using cover, attacking when the opponent is busy reloading or bandaging, and generally being aggressive. If you don't like that those tactics work, submit your feedback to the devs, not me. I can't change the game I'm just here to play it as is. I don't care what other game you think I play the game like. We're not playing that other game. I killed you in this one, so obviously it works in this one just fine. TL;DR? Probably. But it kept my brain from rotting for an hour or so.
