Optic with magnification or optic with no magnification in general?

So I have run into a dilemma recently. Basically, I have a choice between a rifle with a scope offering magnification and a rifle with iron/cco optic. Which do you feel would be better in general? Recently, I have noticed that although the red dot is better in the city; in open fields I am open season for players with scoped weapons. The red dot sadly, does not allow for the precision needed to make those 100+ meter shots quickly. I am usually shot before I can effectively return fire. Does these scenarios represent the majority of dayz engagements? If so, are scoped weapons best, or am I simply out of practice? I thank you for your thoughtful reply. -

Ok, thanks for the input. I was curious about the general range most encounters start at as well. Got sniped by 2 men two days ago with a dmr. About 100m out. I had an M14 AIM, but couldn't line them up before they killed me. Looks like snipers have the advantage anywhere but point blank.... As a side note, I have tried the M16A4 acog and it does not have any alternate optics beside the magnified acog. I am assuming Apple and Bio were referring to the new G36A and SA-58 with a magnified optic/iron or cco. -
Doesn't the M16A4 ACOG only offer a scope, and no iron sights? Do you mean the G36A instead?

Heroes unable to pick up chemlights/flares?

Have only noticed that chemlights tend to drop, randomly as a hero. But you can still throw them. Although once you drop them, you cannot pick them up again. -
So what really happens if you kill a player in the debug area? I've spawned there once, and want to know what would happen if you were to harm a player in there. :D

Can anyone tell me what weapons are capable of a "Knockout" shot like the DMR? I am curious if the AKM and the STANAG weapons can do so as well.

I have not played the new patch yet, but may I ask what are the new backpack sizes? I have heard that the Alice pack now has 16, and the Czech backpack has 24 now. But what about the Coyote specifically? This is the one I had before the patch so I want to know if I would lose any items when logging in. Thanks.

Sorry for the post, I am not sure of the rules in the private hive forum. But anyway my friend and I have been frequenting a private hive for over a month now. Its name was something like CAEK!!!! . However recently, it has added a password, and the server name has changed to "Radioactive Playground - PvP Zones - DayZChernarus". The IP is: 173.193.48.137:3153. I think the region is GMT-6. What is the best possible weapon you can get from a dear stand?

It depends on what do you consider to be best. I will provide a link to dayz wiki, there is a table embedded that will show you what spawns in deer stands and corresponding probabilities. How do backpacks work since the latest patch?

Backpacks do not have separate slots. Your Alice pack has 20 slots for items. Main weapons take 10 slots, sidearms take 5 slots, and regular items take 1 slot. That is the general rule of thumb at the very least. Wood takes 2 slots, and vehicle parts vary. You need to try for yourself. -
Hello dayz community, I am new to the forum and game. I would like to have opinions on the difference between the M4A1 and the M16A2. I have both, and am deciding between the two... I have played the shooting range mod for Arma 2 AO and have noticed the following differences between the two. The M4A1 has a full auto setting, and shorter length, while the M16A2 has the burst firemode, and is longer in length. For my purposes, I want a weapon that I can use in the city and the fields if needed. What I want to know is if the barrel length is a significant factor in room clearing, and is full auto really much better than burst?

New To ARMA and DayZ today. Not very welcoming.

You can learn basic controls if you go to the Arma 2 tutorials. From what I read, you were using side channel. What you need to use in this case is direct communication. You can switch channels with the ( < ), and ( > ) keys above space bar. Yes, this game is dog eat dog, but the community is not necessarily bad. Just remember the nature of this game... You should probably play with a friend, the game can get boring if you run around all the time with no action. Don't give up on the game. Dayz has a very steep learning curve, but you will get to understand what fun this game can bring if you persist. If you ever need help, don't forget the forums. -
Well, I made my choice a few days ago (M16A2), but thanks for backing up my choice! @ItDan2014 Using non SD rounds in a weapon equipped with a suppressor to my knowledge would not only damage the suppressor, but would also be futile, as there would still be a signature "crack" as the bullet broke the sound barrier. But thanks for clarifying the problem with barrel length. A lot of other posts swore that barrel length was an issue, but I never noticed it. Although I could see the problem if you were too close to the door when cutting the pie, as the barrel would expose your position. I also only use semi most of the time. I just wanted to know, if I was clearing a room would full-auto have a major advantage. Using burst at the range, I found out to 25m, all three shots would land very close to each other. At 50m, you can also land 2-3 shots with one burst if you aim at the enemies right knee, as recoil is diagonally up to the right. @ Gews Well, it only takes ~ 4 stanag shots to kill (Body shot). So there probably isn't much difference, granted that the hatchet already broke your legs by that time. How did they get that close, unless you were caught in a building....

Hmm.... So in other words, the barrel length matters little? Some people cited the barrel length as a factor, but I really didn't notice it. Ok, thanks. I will use the M16A2, until I pick up an M4 CCO variant, or M16 ACOG. I have a dmr at the moment that is sitting unused.

Is barrel length a major factor in close quarters though? I haven't noticed any problems with "hangups" in corners and loss of manuverability, other than the longer barrel being a visual distraction/

BattleEye Intilization Failed? (DayZ Commander)

It is just an error when battleeye doesn't start. Happens all the time. Just join the server again. And it will usually work. -
Use tents and vehicles if you plan on playing on that server a lot. They do not carry over to another server, but they do stay after a server reset. They offer an extra place to store items, and if you are killed, you can run over and take items stored from it. Effectively giving you an advantage. On the other hand they can be stolen by other survivors, and they are buggy, sometimes disappearing for no reason.
