so will we be able to craft our own ammunition and bandages in the future pullleeeeze?
-
On that note, where bandages are concerned in the standalone, will it be possible to craft bandages from pieces of clothing? Of course, the penalty could be that they are not as good a quality as they are unsterilized, and you may suffer from infection if you don't change it often. It should also take longer to apply as you will have to tear off a piece of your clothing. The other downside is that you have to tear off a piece of your clothing...

Indeed. This is a brilliant way to go about it, as the major body organs remain intact, and can be harvested for profit. Let's do it! -

It's an oligarchy, so there can be no system of voting to see who get's to play. Only those born into the 'family' bloodline are allowed to be contestants. The rest of the peasantry may watch this royal sport for the blue bloods at a distance. Maybe we should start a revolution and put an end to these parasitic elites? Who's with me? -

Well then, in this case I must boil and fester in agreement. Very well. >:(

Here's the thing. Listen. If there were a zombie apocalypse, a zed wouldn't stand a chance against a limber, fully functional human being let alone a human being who can fight or has a weapon. All you have to do is knock them square in the mouth and take their teeth out.. then go for the feet and/or arms, and then problem solved. My point is that the reason why zombies are considered a threat is not because they can run faster, jump higher and throw you on the ground! They are dangerous because of their mass swarm and attack mentality. If we are to see any real improvement in how zombies behave, they will have to be designed to attack in cluster formation, boxing you in from all angles, forcing you to run, lay low and hide. They should be more active and agile during the day, and a bit slower during early dawn, dusk and night time where the sun is not present to give them their energy. In this case, the developers are going about it in the wrong way. Yes, it is necessary for the individual zed to have good path finding, speed, etc. But we will always run into a brick wall if they are not programmed to operate like a herd. Nature provides us with several examples we can model zeds against... I command you to get it done!!

If the player skeletons are indeed complete, could it not be possible to simulate variations in gait by randomly varying the skeletal structure, height, thickness and body type of each individual and how they move as they walk? It would require that the skeleton be seen as made up of several individual limb objects, in which case you could adjust the length of each limb for slightly longer stride, more sway, a little more hunch or straight back, head moves more from side to side, more tail wag, head bob, etc. Variations would have to be significant enough for human players to identify uniqueness in each skeleton structure. In this case, a second person could study how the individual walks, and recognize them from this. Gait is one of the primary methods humans employ to recognize persons they are familiar with when simultaneously associated with facial features, complexion, height, colour of hair and body type. It seems to me that this should not be a problem for an experienced software programmer... If this were to be modeled, I am not certain how the human brain might process these variations to identify uniqueness in characters within a virtual setting, but it would be interesting for the sake of further study. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4OQSmSslGk -

I think that the rapid dismemberment of a body is a good way to solve this issue of players rushing back into the game to get their gear, provided that in the process of the corpse being mangled by the zeds, the equipment is also damaged beyond use, or requires repair by someone skilled in the various arts of gunsmithing, etc. Any food should be tainted with infection. Any clothes ripped to shreds. Essentially, it would be more worth your while finding some new shit instead of rushing back for what you previously had. GROUP SPAWNING SHOUlD NOT BE POSSIBLE UNLESS YOU ARE ON A PRIVATE SERVER!! It is not right to subject other players on a public server to this bullshit wolf-pack mentality. If you want to join a group on a public server, then you must do it the hard way by tracking down an in-game group or organizing a group from the inside, and interacting with other players inside the game like normal people. I have had enough of pre-arranged (meta) groups/clans organized outside of the game. I know this will cause issues at first with things like medic clans, etc, but I think it would be worth it in the end if this is type of group organizing is done in-game, where anonymous players meet, learn to trust each other and form long lasting relationships (provided that they survive) all inside the game. This will only happen successfully if players act icivilized, assess their target cautiously instead of firing first, asking questions second. If things like medic clans, mechanic clans, peddlers, etc are to occur, then they must be allowed to develop, grow and evolve naturally, all inside the game. They cannot be forced by organizing these groups outside, then imposing their existance in-game. Pre-built groups and clans, in my opinion feed the need for players to be instantly gratified and rapidly accumulate items so that they can go charging through the game like some immortal being. One way of stamping this out is to make it more difficult for pre-organized clans to organize as groups inside of the game as much as possible. If you were killed by another player, well this is fine. Let him take the equipment. If you are in a group, I have no problem with someone from that group keeping your stuff (if they have room). However, when the dead player respawns, he should not have a map and will need to trek back to where he previously was. This will be a challenge at the begining since the map will be unfamiliar, and you will not be able to create meta-maps outside DayZ to aid you in your navigation. He should also not be allowed to use the same username as before, but rather, take on an entirely different character. Any accumulated abilities would be wiped clean, and in effect, be an avatar noob all over again. Players should also only be allowed to carry two long-weapons of significantly different storage slot assignment. For example, they should not be allowed to hold two AK-47's without suffering from disadvantageous encumberences. This will make the decision harder for them as to whether or not they should hang on to their friend's heavy weapon, or just take essential food, clothing and ammunition. If they like it that much, chuck their old weapon and keep their friend's. This will make permadeath that much more meaningful. Chances are the group will have to move on to another location for fear of being detected, making it more difficult for the respawn to track them. Periodic roaming hordes, random forest fires and inclement weather is a good way to keep a group forever on the move. This would require that the designers get ontop of creating really solid zombie AI, and randomly changing unforgiving weather conditions. In order for the player to find his group, they will have to rely on teamspeak or some such external software. If they do this, they will only be ruining the experience for themselves, and this will be up to them. The most realistic experience will be achieved through ingame radio communication, where they will have to listen for periodic weather forecasts and zombie horde sightings. If done right, DayZ could be an epic survival training aid that would allow players to hone their tracking, survival, stalking and situational awareness skills. -
Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions

Have some respect!! The point three oh three Lee Enfield is a beautiful piece of craftmanship. You can do anything with this weapon, drop it in a swamp, fail to clean it, and it'll still fire true. It will never let you down. In a zombie apocalypse, I would trust this rifle with my very life. That's more than I could ever say for some of the other weapons you mentioned in your post! Thre are millions of Lee Enfields distributed over the world and are still in use today in places like Afganistan, India, Pakistan, Persian Gulf, and Chernno. You can pick up ammunition for this weapon at some army surplus depots, but yes, finding it is difficult at times since this caliber is not popular for weapons today, and it will be expensive ($.25 to $1 per round). For this reason, most owners handload their own cartriges. The.303 It is a wonderful caliber with enough punch to take down a bull elephant in a single clean shot, just so you know! Try doing that with a 12-guage or 7.62x39 and see who is likely to come out on top! There aren't that many decent bullets for hunting with a 7.62x39 unless you know how to handload your own ammo. This is why in the past I strongly suggested that Rocket consider having a skill that would allow players to craft their own ammunition in small amounts. All they would need to find is a handloading manual for each round, gunpowder, a handfull of shells and bullets from a crate, and a reloading kit similar to this one: http://cheaperthandirt.com/blog/?tag=lee-reloading-starter-kit This ability would also make the game that much more interesting! Or, if you had a dog, you could track that mutha-fu&*@r down if you got a piece of stuff he/she interacted with and a last known place and description. "your dog companion has picked up three unknown scents from the last known visitors to this dead corpse. which would you opt to track?" -

If you ignore the comment about the god thing, then you are basically in agreement with 100% of everything else I stated in the past, so definitely no argument there. Where your ideas about the god mechanic is concerned, I am betting you disagree only because you ain't a Christian. But, to each his own... -

Fine... you be the first one to have your weapon drawn after butting on to another nervous wreck who's just been sodomized by a zombie and is feeling a little insecure about himself, and needs some kind of reassurance, then.
