The scary thing is people here actually believe this. Never mind the point of opening the alpha was to let people in on the development process and voice their opinions, nope, gotta march in lockstep while saluting a portrait of Rocket or else you are a -insert something about casuals here-
-
I run slow, is it lag, or something else?
Pandema replied to emuthreat's topic in General Discussion
Your friends have nothing in their hands and you do, your connection to the server is worse than theirs, I've noticed some correlation between frame rate and run speed as well. -
Well, is it a feature or is it not? Make up your mind. Hint, it's a feature. Just one you don't like
-
Could possibly be lag, whats your ping to these servers looking like?
-
Because everyone knows the correct way to PvP is to dump 75 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammo into a single person. This can of course be achieved with an SKS, but not as easily.

They'll get loot right eventually. Just play other games and monitor reddit/forums in the mean time. Also, since the other thread got locked. I'd like to express great amusement in how I said I'd get called out for wanting some QOL improvements in a game(shocking I know) and quite literally the next post was Caboose being the classy gentleman he is and calling me out for wanting QOL in a game.

Changes I'd like to see: 1.Better cooking system, having to find a box of matches, axe, stones, cooking tripod, and cooking pot to make food is silly when its entirely possible to make a fire with less 2.Apple/berry picking, milking an invisible for a few seconds seven times, finding no fruit, then milking that same cow again and suddenly finding berries is silly. Let the loop run until I do actually find something, regardless of how much time it takes. 3.Starting not starving to death might be nice, or taking longer to starve would be GREAT(Spin me whatever "You burn energy faster when panic'd bullshit you want, no one has ever starved to death in a few hours after gorging themselves). 4.Avoid the problems of the last CLE, and don't break loot on a bunch of servers. When all the servers with more than 10 people that I have a decent connection to are barren wastelands devoid of loot I'll go play EvE instead, maybe poke some of the die hard "DAYZ IS PERFECT!" guys on the forums for shits'n'giggles. 5.Community improvement. I think a community that was less "YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT I LIKE THEREFORE YOU SHOULD GO DIE CASUAL SCRUB BABBY/DEV COCKSUCKING ELITIST PRICK!!", and accepted that people who paid to test(AKA did something really stupid) this game might have a differing opinion than you. Its alright to not agree, if we all echo chamber'd the world would be a shit place. Although having said this, I fully expect people to come at me for wanting a few QOL improvements (points 1 and 2) because people who fall under point 5 exist.

Great potential? Yeah. Great game? Hell nah. It might get there, eventually, maybe.
-
Heres the justification for server hopping in .55: Some servers were actually broke, and had no loot, so you had to server hop until you found a working one so you could play the game.

Falling of a ladder, died, respawed, went back, nothing remains

This is how it worked in the mod/ArmA 2. In SA I think they decided to just have bodies despawn after 10 minutes because of server load issue. I'm assuming when it came down to deciding whether we had loot, zombies, or dead bodies, they decided to forgo the last one. -
Assuming they get it right this time. .55 had a silly contrast of lootsplosions and barren nothingness. Second times the charm I suppose?
-
According to the key configs, T will change the fire mode. But it hasn't ever worked for me. Unless when I was first trying it the M4 only had an automatic mode, which may be possible
-
Alright, since I have no idea how to break apart quotes here goes. First. Everybody brings up the same points in these threads. Its either being a snobby elitist or a super bad cawadooty player. Second Careful with the dick swinging their champ. Almost hit me with it. Third Not wanting instant gratification doesn't make you an elitist, telling everybody who doesn't agree with your narrow view of what DayZ should be to choke on a dick does. Fourth Everything is valid play style, even being a KoS scrub nugget, just because you don't like it doesn't make it less valid. Bonus points for making that final thing a personal attack, real classy. Scarce loot is good, that CLE implementation was fucking terrible. People not liking how shit went with that doesn't make them less of a person than you. It means they like things that aren't broken, or want something else entirely. What Hicks wants means fucking nothing btw, he's a dev and he answers to the executives of Bohemia. No amount of military contracts is going make a company hold onto a project that is costing them money. So until the DayZ devs go rogue and make their own indie studio, they don't actually get the final say.
-
I don't have a problem with KoS, but I was here when SA launched and I've seen a decent bit of overlap between the people calling anyone who doesn't like the first implementation of the CLE a "casual scrub who needs to go back to cawadooty" and those who bitched and complained about how anyone who kills another player for any reason is a "casual scrub who needs to go back to cawadooty" and people need to interact more and be friendly. When loot is as scarce as it was during the first CLE implementation, being a freshie sucks massive balls, and we're playing a video game with no actual repercussions for my actions, I have no reason to not shoot you and take all your shit because attempting interaction may end up with me dead and attempting to leave might cause you to see me, board the same train of thought as me, and shoot me. Which means I get to be a freshie again and go through the hell of picking apple trees over and over and over. So, I pop them in the back take their loot and they come here and cry about how KoS is killing the game. Its a hilarious circle.
-
And when you don't want to die because being a freshie sucks, its almost like you'd be more likely to just KoS someone because any interaction might lead to your demise. And then the people who want a gritty post-apocalyptic apple picking simulator will be back on the forums complaining about KoS just like they did when it took literally 30 minutes to reach the endgame.
-
People keep saying this gets posted. I still have yet to see it, maybe I need to learn to read between the lines and see whats not there and not being said.
-
Because if they took out zombies suddenly its no longer a zombie game. They can roll back to a placeholder loot system while they work out kinks in the CLE and still have it be a zombie survival game.
-
>The point >your head Lemme explain for you, the point was that despite the fact that loot was supposed to be hard to come by, it was still entirely possible to have full military gear within ~5 minutes of spawning because of lootbombs. Having 4-5 lives where you spawn, and make it as far north as Lopatino eating nothing but apples and die because you ran out of food or got killed by a ninja zombie, then spawning and within 5 minutes you have two guns, military clothes, ~60 rounds for both guns, 3 mags for the AK, a bottle full of water, half a dozen cans of food, a can opener, and a mountain backpack kills any and all enthusiasm that may have survived the previous life attempts. As retarded as finding exploded Russian soldiers in a toilet is, that wasn't what I was getting at.
-
Awww you got me. The Ak and mags were actually on the wrecked UAZ literally five feet from the outhouse, along with an SKS, more military clothing, a mountain backpack, an AKM and a couple of AK74 stocks. Point about loot being fucknuts retarded still stands however.
-
Its roughly 400sq km right now, correct? On 50/50 servers I barely see anyone anywhere. If they scaled up the map they may as well just make DayZ a singe player game, because you will never see anyone. Also, is there a button to report a necro'd thread that has already been discussed to the point of beating a dead horse?
-
I dunno, but when the developers actually acknowledge that shit is indeed fucked for some servers its time to move past "Lol its just those KOS kiddies being baddies!" and accept that shits going wrong.
-
I'd imagine a year of no content killed off a lot of peoples enthusiasm. Patiently awaiting a new loot system, like the idea of scarce loot, last system was completely fucked though. Starving to death 4-5 times in a row then opening an outhouse and finding an AK+mags and a whole Gorka set kills the game for me. Although, I fully expect more posts about how the only people who didn't like the old busted system were pvp scrubs who just wanted to DM in -insert city here- and not people who would like the devs to not put the cart before the horse and not break the ability to live off the land.
-
So the way I read it was that the devs are going back to 0.54 loot system?
Pandema replied to HarryPotter (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Good to see that the devs have listend and are retracting the current system until they work out the kinks. Forcing us to live off the land while breaking the involved systems and leaving a lot of servers as barren wastelands is not exactly the direction I'd like to see the game go. Can't wait for it to come back as a non-horribly broken mess. Until then, you hardcore guys can make countless threads complaining about how you were the only ones who found enjoyment in server hopping till you managed to find loot (Didn't server hopping used to be frowned upon?) -
Please point out the part of my post that alluded to that idea at all. I don't need an AKM + six full drum mags an a PSO to survive. I have an AKS with six mags that I found all in one wrecked jeep though. But I do need a box of matches, a cooking pot, a knife, and some sort of firearm to survive. Which have been remarkably absent in my play sessions so far. So, I'm basically just posting on the forums and playing other games until they make whatever changes they're going to make to cooking because I don't feel like spending three hours crawling in the mud looking for beans while a stag prances majestically through the forest 30yds from me.

I think peoples biggest problems with the update stemmed from the broken loot system, where some servers were devoid of any and all loot and others had military gear around every corner(exaggeration). Plus, they put the cart ahead of the horse here. They wanted to make it so we'd have to survive off of the land without giving us the means to do so. The current systems just do not work in conjunction with the new loot system. Since useful loot is as rare as tits on a fish, putting together a box of matches, a pickaxe/axe, a cooking pot, a fishing hook, and a knife can sometimes be quite the tall order. But apparently they have new systems for all of that in the works which of course begs the question: Why make these changes BEFORE making survival off the land less dependent on the loot spawns? People would've been more than happy with the zombie AI changes on their own. And as to "its still in alpha", didn't we all buy into this alpha(note: never pay to test someone's game) so we could provide feedback on the development choices made? Also, inb4 "W-Well, you're not hardcore enough! Go back to -insert shooter franchise here-!"
