The Current State Of Development - DayZ - Understanding the Development Process
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
 :beans: Nice to see some sane, intelligent material on the General for once. Also- could the mods be a bit tighter? Pretty much EVERY thread has someone complaining about Alpha. And it's almost always out of nowhere, as if they just want more places to bitch and moan. I think it would do good if the mods hid some more complaint posts in the places they don't belong. -
Rejoice brothers, for our loss was not in vain!!! For many years weeks, we have fought a valiant fight against fascism the evil 5.56. Our countryman and fellow allies have suffered under the tyrannical and murderous reign of the AK-101, and it's evil betrayal of the lore, realism, and STRONK Russian weaponry. But today, the evil Reich has finally admitted defeat. Our troops celebrate the glorious victory over the evil Axis powers, and our banners fly over the city of Prague. The Alliance of valiant and STRONK brother have fought a passionate fight, and it was not in vain after all. Rejoice with your friends, your family. Parade the streets, and cry our call; "5.45 or bust!". And now, I can rest in peace knowing that the CDF will finally be accurately represented in a game other than ArmA. And, on that, I end on a high note...

This is where I draw the line between CZ and CR. Chernarussian is actually the Czech language (with some silly Russian here and there), if you'be ever had the pleasure of playing Harvest Red (one of the better shooter campaigns out there). If you're bothered by the liberal amounts of Czech & Russian, then you've stumbled across the fundamental problem of Chernarus: Russian ethnic minority. I could go into more detail, but I'd just confuse people. A very large amount of Chernarus information is very obscure stuff pulled out of the mission briefings in Harvest Red and some very extensive fan fiction on BIS forums. But it's still pretty cool, tbh.

I think I've made my point about this before. Just because you read in some PC gamer article that the geography of the map is based off some remote part of the Czech Republic, doesn't mean Chernarus and CZ are similar in any way. The only thing they share is the language, but most of you wouldn't know that, because you probably didn't know there was a Chernarussian language. But for the record, Chernarus and CZ are very different states. One is a former member of the USSR, the other is a former Warsaw Pact member. One has the economy of Belarus, the size of Belgium, and has some serious problems with ethnic Russians. The other is NOTHING like Chernarus, bar the language and geography. Devs, could you PLEASE pin the ArmA 2 backstory on the website SOMEWHERE? People are too unaware that there is a backstory.

Let's talk about body armor and its possible negatives to gameplay.
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I'd disagree, but only on the terms that it's realistic (aka; balanced). I doubt that you know that much about body armor, but for the record, it isn't some magical artifact that makes you invincible. Vests such as the Press vests and Flak jackets used by the CDF zeds are designed to protect against shrapnel, and are pretty much useless against most small arms. As with bulletproof vests, they're usually designed to protect against specific types of firearms. The lighter fare could probably withstand a few handgun rounds before the plate would be penetrated, but anything larger than a .45 would cut through like a knife through hot butter. Heavier vests provide protection against intermediate cartridges (7.62x39, 5.56 & 5.45), but only at range. Close in, the rounds still might have enough power to penetrate through. Contrary to popular belief, you *aren't* invincible wearing a bulletproof vest. As long as they're done right, I see no sin in adding them. -
I know this is a bit off-topic, but when have Russian soldiers ever been this well equipped? Just a couple years ago, they still had the 90's era Flora camouflage and old M65 helmets. These guys have digital, Partizan, and Gorka covers with modern MOLLE gear and what looks like PAGST ripoffs. Where the hell did the Ground Forces get the money to upgrade to this stuff?

Mistakes you see people do all the time in DayZ
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to anderswhk's topic in General Discussion
Yes, but your crazy desync on a US server might just save me. -
I keep up with the Ukraine conflict as best as I can, and from what I understand, these kinds of weapons are definitely limited to Special forces types. Interestingly enough, individual soldiers use pretty up-to-date Western gear (circa 2003), as the UK & US have sent a boatload of surplus uniforms and vests to the forces. So you see starved National Guard units with AKM's and first gen 74's, but decked with modern "tacticool" gear. I think that is the best way to represent the CDF, personally.
-
Actually, I think of it more as an combination of Moldova, Ukraine, and Georgia. The CDF however take a lot of inspiration from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, so anything they'd use the CDF would probably use.

Mistakes you see people do all the time in DayZ
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to anderswhk's topic in General Discussion
People that take risks with players that are "unarmed". I keep a combat knife on me for a reason. You'd be amazed how many attempted robbers who've ended up getting stabbed in the face trying to handcuff me. -
To the dude on experimental drinking in the lone prison just north of NWAF
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to doctorwhy's topic in General Discussion
I thirst for you big boy. OP though, it irks me when people drink/eat in open fields. You get what deserve being that oblivious. -
Rejoice! 5.45x39mm is coming to Dayz
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to KingOfTime's topic in General Discussion
But Katanaaaaaa!!! What about my favorite, the Plum Poly AK? So sexy, isn't it? -
No, but he gave me Killing Floor once...

M4A1 Can i be added back to Genral Military?
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to WuBzAtYoUrDoOrStEpZ's topic in General Discussion
But this isn't the Czech Republic. I could explain the rather obvious differences, but I doubt you'd get the point. -
AKS-74U confirmed... could this mean...? no...
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to Chaingunfighter's topic in General Discussion
Hey! I take offense! This is causing me more mental anguish! Seriously though, 5.45 all day every day. I will stand by that, for personal reasons. -
DayZ Development progress makes no sense
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to Doomlord52's topic in General Discussion
Can I file a lawsuit? It seems frivolous, I know, but you have no idea how much mental anguish this thread has caused me. You see, every time I see it so high on the General, I ask myself; "Why? Why can't they stop? Why are there so many? Why can't I enjoy a good discussion on the game without these useless Alpha complaint threads littering all the forum?". It hurts, it really does. That's why I demand money for reparation. -
Cars will come, some day. They will change the way that groups control servers, and there will be a swift change from roaming bandit groups to well organized and managed groups who must adapt to the situation of the apocalyptic world (or in our case, Chernarus). Vehicles, presuming they are incredibly rare, will become a status symbol. "Shit, they have a car! They're high on the food chain, aye comrade tovarich?" However rare they be, a rusted hatchback or shoddy Lada isn't really a status symbol, correct? If anything, they're rather impractical and probably only a tool of necessity, no matter how rare. Group warfare and PvP are demanding, and a simple truck just can't quite fit the needs of a combat team. Chernarus is a heavily militarized country, bordering a land hungry neighbor and recovering from a violent civil war. It's not like they have anything like a... BRM-1K COMMAND RECONNAISSANCE INFANTRY FIGHTING VEHICLE! I can hear the moans, the cries. "But, ewwwww, survival game and stuff *insert poorly laden and clichéd argument here*!" The most organized groups are the most effective, and the most effective have the nicest toys. Your average joe Berenzino camper couldn't maintain a bike, nonetheless an armored personnel carrier. "What? It can carry troops, too?" Yes, yes it can! State of the art Soviet engineering, with features like; A FCS reminiscent of WW2 era tanks, a 73mm HE cannon, 7.62 coax, powerful optics, and a long range radio. Plus it can carry seven troops. Thoughts?

We have fought hard, on many fronts, for many days now. For all we have seen, it has been a losing battle. Every time it was brought up, we were defeated by redundancy and entropy. The rhetoric and quoting overran our meager forces. But we fought hard for our cause. We fought like men, real men. And this time, I accepted defeat. Our spearhead against the anti-5.45 forces was quickly shot down, and it seemed as there was no way of victory. At that point, I accepted the impossibility of our cause. But, there is hope. http://dayz.com/blog/status-report-week-of-01-sept-14 "Something a bit newer is an AKS74U which is a work in progress by one of our talented artists," "AK101 retexture" I may be over exaggerating things, but this gave me hope. Hope, that the devs have not forgotten. Our valiant fight against the forces of 5.56-everything may not be in vain after all. We may not have to suffer the defeat of compromise, and the implementation of 7.62x39 variants that never saw extensive use. In the end, they might just see our point. Now, we wait. Because some day, I hope that my children will be able to enjoy 5.45x39 without living in fear of compromise. All this bloodshed, all these good men and arguments lost, won't be in vain. "Slavnaya pobeda strastnykh voinov v zashchitu Chernorussii !"

But the game is touted as an authentic and realistic survival experience, so why should they betray that? Yeah, too many calibers are unnecessary. I don't think Unturned is doing it right though (ammunition is WAY too easy to find, if that's the case), and I was just moderately bothered at how uncharacteristic it was, mainly on Bohemia's part. They develop hyper realistic games, so I didn't expect them to forgo adding 2 or 3 more rounds (too many is too many, sure). I also took it to heart, because the AK-74 is my favorite gun in ArmA, the mod, and real life. And the fact that it's attached to the lore, it just didn't really make sense to me. They added .380 JUST after that announcement. Huh? I'm getting mixed messages here, what are they actually doing? Is it wrong that I provide a counterpoint?

Status Report - Week of 01 September 14
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to SMoss's topic in News & Announcements
This is great to hear. Nice to see some insight on the development, and I'm real excited to see what is coming. -
I don't see why people are saying dayZ isn't that fun.
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to OptimumVision's topic in General Discussion
I can't get the motivation to go back to the mod. I just enjoy the standalone so much better. It's the little things that make it special. 450 hours for $30 spent, I can't understand where the complainers are coming from. -
Good point, a Command BRDM with exposed mounted MMG would be a pretty baller endgame, while not being too overpowered. Man, I wished I suggested that. Would've saved all the complaining!

Newspawn killing is considered the lowest of the low in the community, so I just took it to heart. But you're right, the thing would have to be justifiably difficult to keep for it to be ever considered.
