A lot of my friends have taken DayZ break waiting for the next content filled update. When I play with them, we're usually bandits through and through. However I have taken up the hero business lately, and it's quite fun. I take a defensive weapon, something none too threatening. Then I dress casually, but with a large pack. Then I fill it to the brim with medical supplies, food, water, and assorted knick-knacks. Then I head south to help the good people of Chernarus ;) Quite fulfilling experience. I'm actually surprised how many friendlies I've met.

Can we pin this? I'm tired of people assuming that the dot is where it goes then come and complain about melee broken. It's like Chivalry, follow the fucking swing or you miss. Pretty damn simple.

Does anyone know of a truly stealth player on YT or Twitch?

You placed too much trust in me and it cost you four MRE's. They tasted delicious. -

I distinctly remember this, and I also remember you calling me out for it on a totally unrelated thread almost a year ago. We met near Elektro on sniper hill. You gave me a mag for my M16A2 and we decided to go down into Elektro as you had heard shooting. I was low on blood, and you bent down to survey the town and I looted your bag for MRE's. There was some shooting and I ran away into the woods. That's all I recall. And I do remember that the man I met was named Dagwood, so I just assume it's you. -

Hmmm, I must have made quite the accomplishment then, as I still distinctly remember meeting you out of random on a public server in the mod days and stealing a couple of MRE's out of your pack before we ran into a firefight. -
Is it too late for night time servers?
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to Caboose187 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The challenge of night time is just simply too much for a good deal of the playerbase. Best case scenario is that the devs enforce day/night cycles. I don't care, day only shouldn't be a thing. -

That's under the assumption I get past first base... But you guys have fun! Someone needs to record it, I see a lot of familiar faces showing up and I think it'll be interesting to say the least ;) Have fun! -

How is the outsourced zombie work coming along?

What are your biggest concerns and fears regarding the near/far future of the game?
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to joe_mcentire's topic in General Discussion
What really worries me is the public perception of the game. Any kind of media related to this game has at least one person complaining. It's almost never relevant unless the purpose of the video/article is about problems with the game. And even worse, if you bring it up outside the official forums, you are pretty much guaranteed to be harassed especially if you try to defend it (I know, I've tried before). "Ha, look at the dumbass defending this buggy piece of shit!". Seriously, I think Bohemia should pour a lot more money into PR so they can curbstomp this shit. -

You make it sound like the work they've done has contributed nothing, when in reality it hasn't even been implemented. If you care, check the roadmap. -
This depends more on circumstance, and the cards your dealt. Not everyone can easily stumble upon assault rifles, so you've got to realize that you sometimes have to settle for less. The repeater and magnum are both AMAZING weapons in their own right. A medium-close range power combo that are both fed by common ammo and do surprisingly good damage while having great accuracy. The SKS on the other hand, while having uncommon ammo, is essentially a poor mans assault rifle. It has a decent scope and can be fed by reloadable clips. And the Mosin. Mosin is fucking life. 1-2 hit kill, 1 hit knockout in most cases, SUPER accurate with the right stuff and has very common ammo. Doubles as an amazing sniper rifle. As for actual assault rifles, AKM is the best. While it's a bit heavy on recoil, it's accurate and deals good damage. Plus you can attach the PSO scope. While the other AK's are sort of mediocre, the AKS-74U is a CQB beast. Dexterity that beats any other in it's class. Pistols, Magnum and anything .45. Deal good damage, acceptable accuracy and not too much of a bitch to find.

POLL: How happy are you with the buildings and map?
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to ColonelBurton's topic in General Discussion
I like Chernarus. It's a small, sleep, Eastern republic. But I see suggestions like this, and it annoys me. Why would you rape the nice map we have with all this nonsense? Huge cities and tired novelties have been done to death in the genre. Why can't we just keep the rural republic we have? -

How do you manage your real life and DayZ at the same time?
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
Just need some good balance. I can't really say much as I'm in my Junior year of high school, but I still have to manage my time. Between homework, time with friends, and time with girlfriend (this one is a big sink), I've just got to find a good balance. I'm not helluva an active guy, bar shooting team, but thats only 3 or so months out the year and on Saturdays. Also in the summer, I usually work somewhere. And with all that I've still managed to dump 650 hours into the game. -
Why is Bohema so bad when it comes to AMD?
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
That is part of it. Compare Utes on ArmA 2 and Chernarus, both on max settings. But most of it is caused by the old rendering engine and the massive amount of stuff going on. -
So, I decided to edit my Steam review of the Alpha a couple of days ago to update some of my opinions as it's been a year and I think the game has come pretty far. Before even editing it, I look down to the review section. And bam, I'm instantly surprised. Like damn. At least six or seven negative reviews. Recent too, and the majority of them complain about the recent sale controversy (I didn't see the problem, but it was an avoidable problem the devs brought upon themselves). The rest were primarily concerned with bugs and a few were fairly personal attacks on the devs. And damn, their approval rate was high. This confused me. I've dumped like 650 some hours into it. I thoroughly enjoy the game. It's won awards too. And now I look over the internet, and I see that several youtubers whose career survived off DayZ, now they simply trash talk it and are sponsored by Sony for that free to play zombie thing (The one with the swine flu name? I couldn't bother to search). And then I look at reddit, and good god r/gaming is massive cancerous ulcer. There was some shitty meme pic posted and it had something to do with the sale and rocket and got a ton of upvotes and a bunch of trolls spilled over into r/dayz and it got shitty so the devs basically abandoned it and are now apparently going to turn the forums into their main community communication tool (about time). But all that still bothers me and confuses me. Like three or four months ago, none of this was heard of. People had occasional criticisms (some valid, some not imho), but few actively attack the game and it's media and no were NEAR the current scale. Now, hell I see people discussing it in other games. I got kicked off a Red Orchestra server because some stuff some guys said about it pissed me off (they were the clan that ran the server), and I tried to defend the game. Hell, even in this forum we've got six or seven active trolls I say troll because there is a difference between someone who has criticisms and someone who posts nothing but attacks on the game itself in a vulgar and flame bait manner. And the mods do nothing about that, until these posts boil over into an actual flame war then they hand out warnings. But what puzzled me even more is that 88% something percent of the reviews are positive on the steam page, yet most of the front page is still reviews attacking the game. What? That doesn't really make sense to me. I'm putting on my tin foil hat now. I'll go ahead and place the burden of the blame r/gaming. That's the only way I can explain it to myself, and it makes enough sense. A high profile shit thread gets a ton of upvotes (anyone defending the game got downvoted into oblivion, and you had to scroll FARRR down to see any kind of defense). What I think, is that all these people went to steam off reddit and gave a thumbs up to any negative review they saw just so they can get that little satisfaction. cunts Still, I'm kind of confused. What do you guys think?

When did people start hating on the game so hard?
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
The engine has problems, but I don't see any other modern engine running a map of this scale and detail this well on the market. I think we just wait until optimizations come into play with the new renderer. -

But Bohemia are visionaries. They've stuck with the original vision of Flashpoint to this day, in spite of most companies selling out to the mass market. -

I think some people wanted and or expected a polished mod. The devs are trying to widen their horizons (hey that rhymes!), but some people may have just wanted something more simple. I can understand that. I wanted them to improve on the basic problems of the mod that could never be fixed within the mod itself, and one of the big ones had almost completely been reworked (the old "axe is a gun" thing). Also, I don't know the mods policy towards the use of cunt. To some its offensive to others its not, I made it teeny tiny to lessen the blow.
