A light dissertation on Morality in DayZ
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Damn, how did this creep back from the dead. Ah, nostalgia. It was a time when people thought k0s was just a simple troll... Ah, how we've changed. -

As long as it runs minimum of 30-40 FPS, I'll crank it as far up as possible. I don't want it dropping into the mid and low twenties as it does in the mod. Plus, judging from the screenshots, it's looking better than ArmA 3(lighting wise). I want good graphics AND good gameplay, I don't deserve to compromise.

What's the first thing you'd do in DayZ Standalone?
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to TIC's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First, I'll see if they fixed the problems with blur from ArmA 2. Then, I'll turn it up to the prettiest playable stings(I CAN ENJOY GAMEPLAY AND GRAPHICS) I'll run to the closest town, find some food, a pack, some pimping clothes and a melee weapon. Then I'll swim to Skalisty, loot it, then swim to Utes, and loot the absolute fuck out of it. After that, I'll make periodic trips back and forth between the island and mainland. Even if I have everything I need on Utes. And finally, I'll scour the lands for Hestaine, handcuff him, and then harvest his blood without consent. -
Good thing he realized what was wrong very quickly. Also, Epoch. It's a damn shame that Musty's vanilla server is dead.

I've been thinking, won't it be best if Bohemia ports Standalone to the Steam OS? I understand that you can stream from your main PC, but what about the people that are buying the Steambox itself? I understand that Bohemia is sort of become Valve's bitch(gain some independence, jeesh), so it would make sense and I don't see hardware as an issue as I'm 100% sure it could run it. So, who else thinks they should make a Steambox version of DayZ? I'd think it'd be great for both sales and popularity. But I'd probably own all those poor sods with that awkward looking controller. But still, I think it'd be great if it was ported over.

Definitely My best ever video (W/Cinematics) - Dayz Epoch - Feedback?
Cap'n (DayZ) replied to Quincy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
To be honest, I don't see the value in it. It's not very creative, no good humor, and you're running around shooting people with gear that is MILES below what you own. You know what sells? Survival. I, and a good portion of viewers aren't entertained by the same old "driving around in my leet armored truck, killing dem noobz" bull. I want to see someone barely find his friend, run North, get decent gear, and find a car/heli/airfield or whatever the hell you consider endgame. How about meeting up with someone for a trade, giving strangers bloodbags, or baiting someone into a trap and holding them up? The possibilities are endless. Yet you copy the formula of a very famous youtuber. Be creative, be new. Try something that you are unfamiliar with. Jump into a new mod, or hell, the Vanilla game(I'm strictly vanilla, and it's frankly a lot better). Anything else, otherwise you won't go anywhere. -
Will the release of the single player game signal the death of the modding community?

Yay, a new Jackall. I feel like we get these every fucking week. -
Hey, I've gotten into recording lately and I've gotten some really good footage, but there is one problem. Some of my videos don't have my voice in it. How do I record sound and microphone at once with MSI Afterburner? A quick response, would be appreciated, as always, thanks for the help.

Need assistance with MSI Afterburner

Auto select works well enough. Anyways, thanks for the help and kill/nom the post in any way you please. -

Responsibility and shame: A intellectual observation of the hill camper
Cap'n (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You've just looted Elektro, ready to head North to the promise land. Alice, hunting gear, food water and a Lee. You feel on top of the world, bragging over chat. You step outside, ready to leave. Shots ring out, clearly coming from that dreaded hill. His aim is poor, but eventually he hits you. You lay a slumber and bleed, and helplessly wait for him to finish you off. YOU ARE DEAD Don't lie, we've all been there before. A select few have been the ones enacting this, but there leaves a serious question: Why? These select few are considered the lowest of the low in the bandit tree. They lack morality, respect, or and desire to use skill. Their age ranges, from middle aged stream sniper to prepubescent squeaker playing on his mother's HP. They all have one thing in common: They camp hills. Specifically, snipe high yield cities along the coast. There are other snipers who snipe the mainland, but they are rarer as there is an inherent risk of getting killed by a geared and more skilled player. They however, are in no way better. Today my children, we will dive into the psyche of the most hated members of our community: THE HILL CAMPER. First, we shall observe the modern hill camper and their habitat. The most common of which, Elektro and Chernogorsk. It is not hard to spot a hill camper. They carry a sniper, usually a DMR or M24, and wear a simple ghillie suit or bandit skin. While I have never observed one up close outside of the spawn towns, I understand that they usually resort to looting the Southern military spawns for sniper rifles. They may server hop, or in extreme cases hack. Some may even risk going North, were skilled and geared players pose a risk to them. While some may use other sniper rifles. the majority favor the DMR. The DMR, a weapon often banned from hardcore ArmA matches due to it being "OP", is extremely simple to operate and use effectively. While it may be deadly in the hands of some, I have often outmatched DMR users with lowly Enfield. The DMR also may compensate for poor aim and eyesight, as its zoom magnification and high rate of fire is more appealing to the hill campers who lack common knowledge of sniper rifles. Their preferred locations of sniping are relatively known. The Elektro hill is commonly preferred, but some may use the barn facing NW. In Cherno, they can snipe from the hills or inside the town itself, as there are many industrial buildings with ladders and cover. Why? Why do they do this? There are few reasons, and even less coming from the hill snipers themselves. Many do it simply because they seek nothing more out of the game, resorting to killing unarmed or unaware players for personal entertainment. Some may do it alone, others may team. Some even record it on youtube, as a great middle finger to the DayZ community. Others may have been victim of bandits in the early days, and resorted to extreme measures to prevent it from happening again. But the most common, is new players who were introduced to this livelihood through none other than the internet. They range in age, maturity, and skill. Some come from FPS twitch shooters and are not comfortable with ArmA's shooting mechanics, and therefore must resort to the easiest of these: sniping. Many of these players come into the game with the impression that this is supposed to be a deathmatch, or prefer it stay that way. The worst of these however, are the ones that are doing it to enjoy the stress and anger of others. They are open about it, and have nothing to hide. Their origins vary, but it is agreed that they originate from common players that one day stumbled across a sniper rifle and camp the spawn towns, laughing at the expense of others. Responsibility and shame. Whenever someone is sniped, they usually do one thing. Call them out. It may be in rage, disbelief, or to congratulate the sniper. However, the common hill sniper will not reply. Ever. In fact, they completely ignore chat, besides the occasional "Shut the fuck up" over side in response to someone talking. But why? Are they even aware of how much we hate them? In short answer. yes. They know how much they're hated. It can't be ignored, the droves of chat, forum articles, and youtube videos dedicated to their douchebaggery cannot be ignored. But why can't they owe up, why can't they accept that what they're doing is wrong. but wait, this is a video game? Morality is no issue within a game, correct? Well, that causes one glaring issue. While some may argue morality need not be observed because this is a game, this is a game based upon choices, moral choices that will shape how people may percept you and where you go in this game. Why is there a bandit or hero skin, if not to tell apart the sinners and the saints. While some may be out to ruin your day, others are out to help you. But in the end, that is not an issue associated with bandit v.s hero v.s survivor. Hill campers are their own breed, but they all share one true facet. They will not, refuse to, and ever will admit to doing it. They're ashamed, and in part because the vast majority looks down upon them, as cowards and jerks. So they either hide it or simply ignore the community. They are not productive, honest, or truly enjoying the game. Where is the fun of PvP without the risk? Killing unarmed or poorly armed players from 600 meters away with a sniper rifle does not present a risk unless, by god, they see you first and happen to have a sniper rifle. They won't accept risk for reward, nor responsibility because they come to the game trying to make into something it isn't. They are denying the risk that the game provides, simply because they do not associate risk with a shooter. And for the record, this is not a twitch shooter. So ladies and gentleman, that concludes my intellectual essay on the hill sniper. Please give your feedback in the thread below, and thank you for reading. Hugs and kisses ~ Cap'n :P -
I'm going off ArmA 2 here, but in this case it's a reliable source considering all that is relevant to Chernarus within DayZ is relevant to that of ArmA 2. Chernarussian is pretty much Czech with most names and towns in Russian(it screwed up Google translate because of this). While I agree that it's not culturally and economically identical to the Czech Republic, some homes might carry an AK rifle. While most DayZ kiddies haven't touched ArmA, I have. And a good portion of the men in the Northern province served in NAPA and the ChDKZ. Along with that is the off chance that they're hiding weapons and explosives. While I do not think it should be common to find an AK in a house, there should be the off chance you do. Maybe a NAPA flag hangs in their bedroom, or a book of Lenin's teachings in the house of a ChDKZ insurgent. AR-15's? Hell no, but an AKM or AK-74? Possibly, and maybe some Soviet cammies in the closet for me :P

Also, this what ArmA is for. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP NEGLECTING ARMA!

Utes will be SOOOOO much better in the Standalone, since they're adding it to the map. All the cool peeps gonna hang out there, I'll be chillin' with my buds drinkin' iced tea while watching you barbarians club each other over a can of sardines.

I'd say that it'd do fine on ultra, the 760 is about as powerful as a 670.

Malvarik has an obsession with the Lee Enfield, so much he once traded two L85 Thermals an a Mountain Dew for one Lee. With no ammo. -
Alright, here is my idea. Let's say that the virus is blood borne, but can only reproduce off of blood cells of certain types of blood. Once it has attached to a blood cell, it reproduces within it and the blood must be carried to the brain where the cells will burst and the virus will spread, taking control of the victim. The virus will not kill the victim, it only destroys what makes you human. All traits of your personality, memory, and anything else that once made the victim human is now gone and what remains is simply an animalistic shell of a person. The infected individuals will become extremely hostile, attacking anything that is not already infected with the virus. They will form a pack mentality, combing areas for uninfected organisms to consume. The virus only affects primates, so anything else will simply remain unaffected by it. However, most wild and domestic animals would be consumed over the first few years, leaving only the immune human population left for a food source. I'd say a good number of immune would be 10-15%, as anything less would seem rather unusual considering that there are 50 people on a stretch of land on 230km square. As for how the virus came about, I assume that the Chernarussian government was allowing the United States to develop biological weapons in the country in return for financial and military support. When the US military withdraws from Chernarus during the civil war, the development of the virus is turned over to Chernarussian scientists. At some point of time, one of them is infected. From there on, that one individual sets off the domino effect, and thus, a good 90-95 percent of those not immune to the virus would be infected within the first months. Those who are immune? They are left to fend for themselves among the wasteland, and our story starts from here.

hey guys, I've been thinking of upgrading my processor and motherboard recently from AMD to Intel. At the moment, I have a measly 8320. While it's decent for other games(My 7870 Tahiti kills most :)). Problem is, it's not too hot for ArmA and DayZ and I've been looking to upgrade to Intel. An i7, 920/930 in particular. While it may be old, I'm not paying to upgrade to a dual core i3 with a cheap motherboard. The 920 is pretty cheap, and I can afford a decent motherboard which enables Crossfire and can overclock. Question is, is the 920/930 really an upgrade to what I have? I know it's old, but it's a quad core and overclockable and it's what I can afford. I could upgrade to an 8350, but would that be better? I could use some help, as I can't really afford the high end Intel or AMD things(the 9370 is looking mighty fine though).

Can this setup run dayz High settings?

Still, most people prefer decent graphics for immersion. I run the highest settings I can squeeze out with hitting under 60 FPS out in the woods and small towns. -
