    15 Minor Issues/Assorted Musings

My main gripe is that what little military we do have is not only bland, but rather ambiguous. We don't have proper NATO gear, but we don't have proper CDF/Eastern gear either. Not sure if it's just the Alpha-ness, but I feel like we need more than just a few berets and UN helmet to represent the multiple factions that probably played a large role in the outbreak. Torchia confirmed the ArmA connection (what a good thread name...), so when do we get our shiny Marine, CDF, ChDKZ and Russian Ground Force gear? AKA: less bland military hear.
  2. Also, a lot of problems with the game can also stem from the surge of new players after release. A lot of these people simply watched videos, and assumed that the game was nothing but a shooter and PVP. Therefore, even if all the survival mechanics and balancing are in place, it will still be VERY difficult to persuade anyone otherwise. So we'll simply have diseased, starving, and dying airfield campers instead of healthy campers... Still, it's a change.

    The new guns kinda suck

This isn't you're average shooter. They aren't looking for balance, some guns will just be better. It was like that in the mod, and it will probably stay that way. Once server loot quantity is implemented, you'll be finding a lot less AKM's and a lot more hunting rifles. So, get used to fighting clan wars with a hundred year old bolt action rifle, as you'll be hard pressed to find an assault rifle. Also, setting; you can't just add every gun you want to the game. There is lore, and it is following a backstory (it's a spinoff of ArmA 2, much like Joey is to Friends). Some guns don't fit the setting. And the developers are planning on making survival aspects play a much larger role. Soon, you'll have to manage your health, hunger, thirst, and find medical supplies whilst avoiding contracting deadly diseases. And zombies will definitely be buffed at some point. So, you'll need to manage more than just your ammo. I suggest you find a game better suited to your needs.

How big is the DayZ SA team? (+ Development)

Damn. I really can't escape from the idiots, can I?
  5. Cap'n (DayZ)

    Can people stop saying...

Came here expecting people debating on realism. Get to see the same old cynical idiots complaining about the game. Go back to your rage thread, we're here to have a civilized conversation and you just fuck everything up...

    Experimental Branch: 0.47 Discussion

Fell victim to LMB bug again... I was at Balota airfield. I had been stalking a player who killed someone at the ATC, and waited patiently outside the barracks for him to enter. He headed towards the tenets, so I flanked him, and found him on the road. I was unseen, and decided now was the time to take him out. He stops at the edge of the fence, and goes crouched. I aim, and click the mouse. Nothing. I ran to the coast and logged. This needs to be addressed, and soon.

I'm moving in on Balota tents on a full server...wish me luck. I'm gonna need it :(

    Experimental Branch: 0.47 Discussion

I can confirm this. A couple of zeds fucked me up pretty bad in Nadezhino yesterday because of this. I hope it gets fixed soon, it's nasty bug.

The lag and rubberbanding is awful. Too many morons testing persistence...killing the servers...ugh.

All the servers seemed to have restarted, and now I think my character is reset.
  11. It makes more sense to make small leaps before tacking on the big hurdles. You might have expected a reworked mod, but they're making a new product from the ground up. I'm content with the progress made, and it's some pretty far since release. No one ripped you off. There was a disclaimer. We're all testers, and we're being given the chance to test an unfinished product. We provide feedback on the implementation of new items, and report bugs. This isn't a finished game, and it won't be for a while. You read the disclaimers (I hope), and no one ripped you off. The developers have gone through painstaking lengths to remind people this is a buggy, unfinished game in progress. Every time a developer makes a tweet, reddit, or forum post about ANYTHING, someone just has to complain- "No vehicles, this sucks!" or "Why isn't this finished yet, I've been ripped off!". It's Alpha. It's development cycle is barely over. We have six or so months until we hit Beta, and another year until full release. It is VERY early to make grandiose assumptions that the developers have ripped everyone off, made a shitty game, and that the mod is glistening example of superiority and polish (it's not). ArmA wasn't exactly designed for the exact needs of DayZ. They're trying to change that, by making a new game. Not a polished version of the mod. An entirely new game. This will take time, but I've said that a million times before. It just needs to be drilled into the thick heads of a very vocal minority. I've logged in almost 400 hours, and I have reaped more than enough out of the thirty dollars I've spent. Better than any gimmicky ten dollar indie title or triple A sixty dollar game has brought me in a very long time.
  12. I'm fucking fed up with the snark and cynicism of complainers. The OP is fine, and some of his points are valid, yet I don't really think we have anything to fear. I'm fed up with people who simply assume that they're bamboozling us simply because the made a profit. News flash: just because a game is popular and makes money, doesn't mean the developers have turned into greed monkeys out to steal your money. You're either or delusional, a hipster, or both.

Something to help clear the air.

I for one, am relieved to see them putting work towards the game instead of constantly trying to remind us they're developing a game. But whatever. My $30 was well spent, and I'm here until the end. I lay my trust in Bohemia as one of the few decent non-indie developers left out there. I'd rather see changes for myself by playing experimental than have them waste time making dev blogs every damn week.

    Heavy & Light Machine Guns

The only belt fed MMG we need is the PKM. It fits the setting, and there already exist several variants fed with the 7.62x51 round. Anything else doesn't belong, bar the Pechneg, but it's very similiar to the PKM in appearance, so the devs could pass on it.

    Need help with something.

Alright, I was constantly getting session lost on experimental. I found someone with the closest thing to a suggested fix, and they suggested that I delete the .dll file (not the EULA) in the Battleye folder in the game files. Apparently, it's supposed to download that when joining a Battleye server. But it doesn't. Instead, it kicks me for not having Battleye. Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Something to help clear the air.

I think people really expect too much. You bought a game in development. The developers are going out of their way to remind you, that is indeed, a LONG road until it is a fully finished game. People are not used to the Alpha format, and they simply take it as "Hey, we get the game early!", and not "Hey, let's pay to take part in the development process of a project we see a lot of promise in!". The latter seems to be a lot more attractive process, yet most developers seem to use it as a way to fork cash without having to finish the actual game. Unfortunately, Bohemia has unintentionally made this kind of thing common practice among smaller projects and indie developers through Steam, as a by product of the INSANE popularity behind the mod and hype surrounding the standalone release. They made a cool few million, and now everyone wants that DayZ MoneyZ. Thankfully, it seems the developers aren't scamming us. They've added new assets to the team, are creating a lot of new content, and best of all, AVOIDING answering every single request of the community. Thank god... I hope that the standalone is a great success, and by release, is a fully fleshed out and enveloping experience worthy of my 30 USD, which I've already weened more than 300 hours worth of enjoyment. And Bohemia gets richer in the process, and makes the upcoming ArmA 3 DLC great, and ArmA 4 legendary.
  18. There was the modern 08' Volkswagen Golf in ArmA 2, the 99' Corolla, and a 90's Hilux. That, and a varied array of other vehicles ranging from early seventies to middle 00's. This game is NOT set in the Cold War.

    Happy to....

Good- have a cookie! Still have no idea what the point of the thread is, but the effort is appreciated, one keyboard warrior to another.

In a survival game with severely limited resources, WTF...

I doubt we can get fluid animations like this with the current engine system. You people neglect to understand that ArmA and DayZ, and unlike normal games, don't use a different body rig for first person. So everything you see happening in first person is happening in third, and vice versa. In my opinion, this system is far superior. But my opinion doesn't matter, and the vast majority of new players has come from games that use the rig system and don't appreciate it... I pray they don't rework it. It's good as it is. Melee will improve along the path of development, but it must meet it's logical conclusion. i doubt we'll see features akin of that to a dedicated MMA game.

    [Question] Downed Helo's are UH-?

I think we need more Mi-8, Mi-6, and Mi-24 series crashes. Each of them could carry different loot- 8 series are dedicated troop transports that may carry AK series weapons and defense force uniforms, 6 series logistical supplies such as food and water, and 24 series could carry high level loot. Each being rarer than the other of course. Then again, I'm the guy who doesn't mind armored BRDM's, should fired disposable rockets, and manpads... But rarity is everything, right?

    WWII German Gear in Chernarus

I don't mind some small stuff, like a Stalhelm...but nothing overboard. Also; Takistan borders Chernarus to the West, past Novigrad, the capital (no, you silly ducks, cherno is not the capital). People often wonder why they border each other, but hey, coniferous woodland doesn't instantly turn into arid desert. Look at some pictures of Armenia; it's generally considered European, but borders Iran. Also, Iraq and Afghanistan have woods and mountains (albeit sparse). I'd love to see a gradually changing border area around the Taki/CR border. That'd be awesome.
  23. Strelas and Iglas out the wazoo. This would make DayZ 200% better.

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?

I think Torchia just confirmed that they don't plan on adding it. It's in the devtracker, I'm too lazy to link the tweet.
