So far i havent seen 1 good reason to keep them in. Save for anti material purpose. 90% of any good snipers time is filled with finding spots and backup spots. and moving between them. There are spot out there wich ake you practicly invisible. Unless they step on your head. People are always hiding in the obvious locations.

I like the fact how this adds nothing usefull to the discussion exept some ad hominem. I am the killer who mowes em down by the dozens because of the as50 and i say its op.

tell me you are trolling here. the mildots themselves offer rangefinding, diffrent magnifications diffrent formula offcourse. take average target height of 1.80 m. With m24 for example, zeromaxrange=1000M. so 1800:(the height of target in mildots)= the range. No special gimmicks involved. Not sure of dmr because of multiple zoom levels. and lack of zeroing. But furreelzies. 1 hit footkills are ridiculous. when, you can do spamfire from``hip`` when there is no wind to deal with. when dayz uses the stock arma wounding model.(wich is why footshots are lethal) Lets not even talk about realism here please. Gameplay wise it would make it more involved. In the same way that removing 3rd person changes the dynamics of a firefight(wich is good) In real life we do not have a personal uav hovering over our shoulders. And we sure as heck cant run for miles with a 14kg weapon. So either we go full blown out realism, wich also means the end of 50 cals as they are used now. Or we atleast try to keep gameplay in mind. With all honesty every attempt at ``refuting`` the elimination of 50s seems like a crack addict making excuses to keep smoking.

ALL OF THEM. 5.56 does the job aswell. Aim for either the main or tail rotor(tail prefered) Or for the fuel tanks. Arma simulates diffrent aspects of the vehicle and the tail rotor is the weakest spot.(after the wind shield with pilot:D)

Also who wouldnt want an ak when civilisation breaks down? You realise you almost never ever have to clean it proper, just spit on it a few times it will work. An as50 for example is compared to an AK what a rocketscientist is to someone beating two rocks together. You NEED to properly maintain those weapon for them to be effective and not jam on you(m82barret) was relly prone to that when fouling was not removed in time. So i figure the longer said apocalypse is going on the more AK`s and other low maintenance rugged weapons you will encounter. Since those are the only ones that are servicable.

The recoil is so low in practice its not even there. Hip firing datt beast will knock you on your ass and thats no joke.(if realism) Also ican confirm it does NOT take exra skill to hit someone at a 1000+.meters my longest range kill is 1376 m almost at the end of zero range but still not at maximum effective 1 shot kill range, wich lies somewhere around 2k. You can count can you not? Ive shot and killed alot of people with the as50 its overpowered. So take it from a killer instead of a victim that things gotta go. Dont even get me started about the target lock you can make with the m107. Is a good weapon, Its not my selffishness that fuels my posturing here. Its the ease with wich i kill people over a mile away with NO SKILL involved.

I expect a netcode wich isnt sloppy like soe`s half assed products. That way we will only have to deal with aimbotters and esp users. Wich to be fair are really hard to combat. No matter how many GM`s you put on the case and no matter how neat your netcode is. There will always be cheaters after all russia exists. -
Or maybe we can craft a self contained hamster wheel generator for in your backpack. Hard part would be finding and trapping the damn rodent.

Dont know if we still discussing the 50s. From my experience it makes everything way too easy. I can just get standoff kills at 1200M plus wich is retarded. Even at the end of the effective point target range the 50 will still 1 hit kill(big bullet) This is totally realistic, a zombie game however has nothing to do with realism. Therefore i move to remove 50 caliber weapons, Firefights will get a little more interesting without the spectre of a 1400M i it kill looming over your shoulder. Just to confirm this i have scored 1400M kills on dayz and arma(ace) with 50 cal weapons it just takes 2 seconds for a target to sit still. I did have way more trouble in ACE with the windage and all. Maybe the weapon variety in dayz is okay, the long range shooting mechanic just needs to be nerfed a little bit. Because its seriously easy mode once you get a scoped rifle. Make it more like ACE handles projectiles. And the only succesfull snipers you will encounter are the ones that know how to play that role.

The only effective way to keep this fun and fair is to remove private servers. There is not a single privetely hosted server that is 100% fair, admins are humans too so they will have friends like all people do. Everywhere on every single server there is a group of players that rub shoulders with the moderator group. Ive personally seen admins use there tools to help ther friends out by telling them where players and vehicles are. SPawning helis on restart stuff like that. I say down with privatlely owned servers, play fair like the rest. -

i just confirmed its possible for myself in the arma 2 editor. To not render any animated objects(units) in 3dp behind cover. buildings trees etc are in place. Actually just a small tweak as it turned out. -

Well, The arma 2 engine is capable of scripting it to the point where it only renders animated objects(players,zombies etc) within the players sightline. That way you can have 3rd person spatial reasoning, but not the invisible man power that we all hate(it is a crutch btw and a lame one at that). As soon as you peak over whatever ledge you are hding behind it checks sightlines via the doscan command on your charachter. If animated objects are found within the sightlines they are rendered upon discovery. You can even make it so it only affects the rendering of other players and leave zombies etc alone. that way we all win. Immersion will peak for all playstyles and the exploits are limited. SO finally those damn snipers will have to work on good positioning intstead of finding the nearest hard cover.
