Can't see other people's direct communication chat
Cobs replied to Dogar's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I had the same problem last year. First I created a new profile, then I assigned a new button for "Talk on direct Channel" and I also forwarded the necessary ports on my router to my computer's static IP address just in case. Problem solved for me. -
Could possibly be related to power saving options, laptops usually have many. CPU parking, as well as things like speedstep, and even GPU power saving options could be in effect. Disable all power saving options so everything is running at max performance, and always run the laptop plugged into an outlet. Take a look at this guide for other FPS tips. (Don't worry about ramdisk since you have a SSD)

New to this game and just wondering what my computer needs for more fps
Cobs replied to dominick353's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
If you haven't tried updating your drivers yet that is the first place you should start. After that head over to this guide and try a few things. FPS on DayZ is all over the place. I would say experiment with different servers with different amounts of people to see the results. A server with 1000 vehicles rocking 60 players is going to drag compared to a vanilla DayZ server with 15-25 people. Sometimes sacrifices must be made! -
Take a look at my guide and try a few things. Specifically if your processor has hyper threading, or you haven't tried any launch parameters / config file tweaks. Hope it helps.

Does my spec still can't run this game properly ?
Cobs replied to dwiantlake's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Open ArmA2OA.cfg Located Documents\arma2 Backup the file somewhere in case something goes wrong first. Change Resolution_W=1280; Resolution_H=720; Render_W=1280; Render_H=720; Save, start game -
http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/basic.cfg You could try playing around with your max packet size, it says it works for clients independently. I've never messed with this stuff, nor do I know if it will do anything. Doesn't hurt to try stuff tho! (But backup your config files before modifying!)

Even Frankieonpcin1080p is having problems with laggy DayZ these days. Edit: Just kidding he was talking about Arma 3 DayZ  DayZ seems more laggy than it used to be though.

How long before it minimizes? And what happens when you try to alt tab back into the game?

Impossible to play on the same server with 2 differents PC at the same HOME. (CD key in Use)
Cobs replied to ceilan's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
It's not an IP problem, you've accidentally installed the same version I believe. I play DayZ with my roommate, we are both in the same house, using different steam accounts, and we both purchased separate copies of arma 2 combined operations. I would try uninstalling everything (remove everything!) on his computer and logging into the correct steam and re-installing. There definitely is no problem doing what you are trying to do, because I do it all the time. -
Standalone has SO much potential with all the ideas from the community and the great team developing it. But above all else this game needs some major optimization for better performance not only for lower end PC users but higher ones as well. Even on great computers people are struggling to achieve good FPS in cities. If DayZ ran smooth as butter, and the zombies weren't so glitchy in their movements, I'd be happier then a camel on hump day.

Melee Weapon Quick Switch Help/Advice
Cobs replied to r4z0r49's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ is all about realism, when I think about having an hatchet on my back and a weapon in my hand, to put the weapon on my back with a strap, then remove the hatchet from my back I think it would take some time, and be very difficult if I were running while doing it. For sure the animation, but many times when doing a swap you realize too late that it's going to take too long and a zombie is going to get a piece of you. When this happens you are left stuck in place until the animation is complete. I suggest if you move during the animation, any switching animation / bandage, that it cancels and you can escape being smacked by a zed. -
Some things may be familiar, but please read through the whole guide to see if you come across something you have not tried yet. This helped me and I want to help others. This guide is intended for users who play DayZ regularly and want to do every possible thing they can short of overclocking to maximize their resources for better fps on DayZ. This guide is for both low end pc users and high end pc users. I've collected alot of good information from around the web and credit goes to those great people who shared their information. So lets get right into it. Firstly the easy stuff most of you have probably tried and know about: The config file tweak: Please backup all files to a separate folder before modifying. I am not responsible for any problems this may cause. Find your ArmA2OAProfile. If you never made a new profile it will be in documents\arma2, if you made a new profile it will be in Documents\ArmA 2 Other Profiles\"ProfileName". Mine is Cobs.ArmA2OAProfile, drag and drop this into notepad. Do a "ctrl f" and find sceneComplexity= Here is a snippet about this value from ArmA 1 on the bistudio forums. Thanks Cap n Joff The very low, low, normal, etc are referring to the in game object detail settings. After setting this value do not change those settings, and I would even go as far as to say make this file "read only" so it can't be changed again. I would try a setting at 100,000 or 75,000 to see results. Second Config file tweak: Open your ArmA2OA.cfg (located Documents\ArmA 2) in notepad Find: GPU_MaxFramesAhead= GPU_DetectedFramesAhead= Put both of these values to 1. It will look like: GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1; This is from http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/arma2.cfg, many guides say to change this, some say to put the file to read only. I actually left mine at 3. From there you should go to your graphics card control panel and make a new profile for arma2oa. Find the detected frames ahead setting and match what value you have in your cfg file. Here is an older picture of the bistudio forums: Hyper-threading: If you have a processor that has HYPER-THREADING you must disable this in your BIOS. For almost everyone this will increase your performance in many games. I would never have thought so but it does. Commandlines: If you use DayZ commander, go to settings then additional launch parameters. If you use something else to launch dayz you have to put them in manually. Here is my launch parameters: -world=Empty -noSplash -high -maxVRAM=3062 -maxMem=2047 -skipIntro -winxp -cpuCount=2 -exThreads=1 -high is for cpu priority, -maxVRAM should be set to about 10 below your actual VRAM, -maxMem should never be set higher then 2047. If it is not set apparently arma 2 only uses about 1.5GB. If your computer only has 2GB of ram set this value to 1024 or 512. In game settings: Head over to a great post by GrumpyGat: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/141305-a-simple-guide-to-getting-the-most-fps/ Now that hyper threading is disabled, and you have all these great tweaks that are borderline sorcery it's time to do some real magic. Real Magic: You are going to need more than 4GB of ram for this, I recommend 8GB or more. You need to install the free version of ramdisk. Ramdisk is easy and free and I've had no problems with it. You can get it here: http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ramdisk You are also going to need link shell extension http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/hardlinkshellext.html to link your files back to your game directory. Follow this guide for RamDisk by OshiSeven : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkdp07a9Doc And follow this guide for putting more than just the @DayZ files on RamDisk using link shell extension: Big thanks to liquidpinky. I used files from both arma 2 and operation arrowhead. this is my file list: Files from arma 2: \@DayZ\buildings.pbo\buildings2.pbo\buildings2_Ind_CementWorks.pbo\Ca.pbo\chernarus.pbo\chernarus_Data.pbo\chernarus_Data_Layers.pbo\misc.pbo\misc2.pbo\misc3.pbo\plants2_Bush.pbo\plants2_Clutter.pbo\plants2_misc.pbo\plants2_Plant.pbo\plants2_Tree.pbo\Roads2.pbo\rocks2.pbo\signs2.pbo\structures.pbo\water.pbo\water2.pbo\weapons.pbo Files from arma 2 OA: \buildings.pbo\buildings2.pbo\PLANTS_PMC.PBO\roads2.pbo\STRUCTURES_PMC.PBO This was on the free 4GB RAMdisk. For low end PC's that can't use ramdisk, you can use the same idea if you have more than one hard drive by splitting up files across multiple hard drives, and linking them back with the link shell extension. If you don't have multiple hard drives and you're playing on a pretty slow computer, the best thing you can do is lower your interface and 3d resolution down. I mean really down. I used to play DayZ on 640 by 480 I kid you not. I played like that for almost a year. DayZ was worth it to me. Hopefully this helped people boost a few fps. I know towns and cities still lag, the best thing you can do is find a server with under 400 vehicles and the less people, usually the better fps. Again thanks to all those who I quoted or linked to. If there was a tweak I missed please feel free to share it with everyone. Edit: Be sure to set audio samples at 16 as well for lower CPU usage. Edit #2: Unpark CPUs If you have a newer CPU chances are power saving options are in effect called parking, and may be causing issues with older games. This guide shows you how to unpark your CPUs very easily with a tool that does all the registry work for you. http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility

Try creating a new profile, perhaps that will create new control config files and fix your problem.

Dayz unplayable for me, worth trying SA?
Cobs replied to Kiilg (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I used to play on an old e8400 core 2 duo with a Geforce 9800 and 2gb of ram at 640 by 480 :D , I could see 30-40 fps outside cities. A lot of factors affect the game. First some servers are super laggy, the ones with 950 vehicles and 60 people playing on them, you're likely to have a bad time. Secondly, in game resolutions do not have to be at 1080p. I play on a 32 inch screen at 1366 x 768 and you can go lower than that with it still looking great. You should make sure your cfg files have been tweaked, lower your in game resolution, try some commandlines, and be sure to have properly updated drivers. With 8GB of RAM i would highly recommend using ramdisk for Dayz. You can use 4GB of your ram to load important arma 2 files and the dayz mod straight from your ram, boosting fps. With your specs, dayz should be very playable. -
I'm having alot of luck with RamDisk. I put a bunch of pbos on ramdisk from Arma II and OA, as well as the @DayZ folder. This has improved my fps in cities. My old hard drive was a 10,000rpm old 80GB raptor. I used a 4GB RamDisk free version, and I have a total of 8 gigs of ram. My frames arn't where I would like them in cities, but it's a noticeable improvement over what it was. I'm still playing around with different pbos to see the fps effect. Also, a quote from the UO Community forum: On top of that don't forget the cfg file tweaks, they do help as well. All this combined with updated drivers, a properly configured NVidia/AMD control panel, and correct in-game settings your fps in cities can improve.

I'm running: Intel i3 3220 3.3Ghz (2 Cores 4 logical processors) AMD 7950 3GB 8GB DDR3 Windows 7 64 Bit Steam Version using Dayz Commander with beta patch installed, current versions of everything / drivers and all that meat. When I play DayZ, my GPU load is around 40%, my CPU load is around 45%. I play on just about everything highest, Video memory default, resolution at 1366 x 768 (looks best on my 720p tv), anti-aliasing at 2x. I've also tweaked the config file from multiple performance guides, and tried just about every command-line combination that exists. The graphics settings don't even matter, Low or high I see shit FPS. Sometimes its good, most times it sucks. To me anything under 39 FPS feels wrong. It drops to the 20's sometimes. People will say "oh well it's a CPU intensive game"... except my cpu is only running at 45% load. So they say "oh well it's the servers". But it seems like this happens on every single server I try. Do all servers run on a dial up connection in Nigeria? "Oh well the game is not optimized very well". I'm going to optimize my foot in someones ass. >:(

DayZ FPS has me pullin my hair out for Dayz
Cobs replied to Cobs's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Let me reiterate: My GPU and CPU are both only running at less than half load. Less than half load. My game is lagging, but my CPU and GPU are like chilling outside like meh, I don't get paid enough to care. If I'm lagging shouldn't my GPU or CPU be like oh crap, and run at full capacity? Sigh. -
DayZ FPS has me pullin my hair out for Dayz
Cobs replied to Cobs's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
My GPU load is only around 40%, I can crank that up or turn it off, makes no difference in fps. 1366 x 768 looks best on this monitor, I've tried them all. 39 FPS is not good. Good FPS is 40-60+, and I'm all about good beer and good FPS. People should not settle for 20-30 fps in a game that looks like this! It's like paying the price for Sam Adams and getting non alcoholic Keystone. -
Work In Progress
-
Coast Shot: Electro Dock: I had the same idea for DayZ within the cry engine, and I decided to start it as a new project of mine. This is my progress after a day. The length of this project is daunting, and I just started. It doesn't look like much now but it has potential. No textures or vegetation has been applied yet, this is only the long range texture. After textures, trees, grass, and some lighting tweaks this will look much better. As for the rest of the work to do.... oh boy.

NEW DAYZ SERVER! (Chernarus, Super Hostile Survival) Click for more info!
Cobs replied to AlbinoDinoFTW's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Let me tell you how they play "just like us". I happened across the admin base after swimming to skalisty island to check the chopper spawn. The vehicles over there have clearly admin added items, with all round numbers for items, (ex 30 mags of ak, 10 this 10 that). After about 20 seconds of checking that stuff I notice a red admin private message spamming my screen. "You are in a restricted area, leave now or action will be taken". Now I'm pissed cause I swam all that way and I found a chopper fair and square. I get teleported back to the coast, and promptly kicked off the game. This is yet another server run by an admin who is 14 years old (check his profile), and can't handle it when another player stumbles across his stuff. Yeah, the admins play the game just like us, just with total admin power. Difference between a hacker and an admin? I'm finding the line a bit fuzzy. Will not be returning to this server. -
- ChiliCheesedogZ Zombie Apocalypse - (a nice place to die)
Cobs replied to mrfivealive's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Best server I've played on, I get fast loading, great ping, hackers are banned daily. Added buildings make for an interesting change, and crash sites / vehicles are balanced pretty good. I've bounced server to server trying to find a gem like this one, and I finally found it. -
Highly suspicious! I found this video on youtube: Removed. The link is in the description. WARNING! DOWNLOAD AT YOUR OWN RISK! In it he claims the tweak gives him like 20-30FPS boost by doing something with the trees and bushes or something. Can anyone check the file / code? Can anyone tell me if its legit to play with?

Yeah it seemed a bit sketchy. Hoped I could get someone to actually look at the code though. Thanks anyway.
