This heavily detracts from the realism as stated. Surviving long enough to get basic equipment is a large part of the game and should not be interfered with. The only time I would advocate anything unrealistic is if an artificial method was used to simulated a realistic feature.

Congratulations! I am glad to see another father teaching things that instill the importance of character and integrity to their sons. True character and integrity is not something you turn on and off to fit your situation. It is something you maintain no matter what the situation......even gaming. It is the only way to earn true respect. The OP has gained my respect in a community where it is a gross lack thereof.

Sorry. Just had to comment on this. So..... Out of this entire scenario the thing you find unrealistic is the military hardware on a previously military controlled island?! Really? Not the zombies? Or the morphine used to instantly heal bones? How about that everyone is wearing the same outfits? No? You've probably picked the most realistic feature about this whole situation that is the most closely grounded in reality to complain about. Lol

Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'

.... could not have said it better myself. -
Game Purchase Only with the option to purchase cosmetic items. Studio developed as long as it takes into consideration community suggestions that work with the premise of the gamed Servers run by both community and studio, but there must be universal enforced set up. Yes to Kickstarter.

I think too many people got hung up and can't get past the mistaken misuse of the word "end game" in this particular instance. I think the OP want's to know what else could this game offer other than running around with gear for no apparent reason.
-
There are many sandbox games out there that have content to be accomplished...or not. But you are speaking on what the game is currently, not what it will or may evolve into based on the devs vision. What the game is now does not mean we cannot discuss other ideas. I absolutely love Eve Online and have been playing it for 7 years because there are so many options and so much depth to each option. This is the ONLY game so far that has kept my attention for so long. It is not just about betting the best ship, equipment and then going out and pwning noobs. It CAN be that if that is what you want to do, but you're not going to be successful doing it solo. The point is....Eve Online is an example of a sandbox game that has the potential and the content to be as much or as little as you want it to be. I think the term "end game" not the correct term for what the OP wanted to discuss. Correct me if I'm wrong, OP. I believe what they meant is: what other game content options would we like to have available to us once we successfully get kitted up the way we want. Right now, the "end game" is getting kitted up with the best and rarest equipment out there and then what.......? Go hunting (pwning) noobs? Wander around and see the sights? Why would anyone complain about the possibility and option of more to do? You have to understand that I do not think this alpha is the end all and be all as far as the content the Devs have in mind. But I may be wrong about that.

Perks is not a bad idea, but I'm not sure if its the right one for the DayZ experience. Perks just seem forced and unnatural for something like this. I don't think the problem is lack of incentive to stay alive because the more loot you acquire, the drive to stay alive increases naturally anyway. However, I think zombies do need to be a bigger part of the experience than they are now. I don't mean making all of them more dangerous. Perhaps certain areas would be populated by a more aggressive type of zombie and in these areas you would find materials needed to build or fortify a base or settlement. Then, maybe once a settlement is built, it would come under attack by these more aggressive zombies from time to time, forcing the inhabitants to defend their base or be overrun. .....I don't know. Just tossing another idea out there.
-
Are you one of the Devs? This game is in alpha state which means what we see now is not the end product. Unless you are privy to information that the rest of this are not, I doubt your statement has any factual basis. What you've stated is where the game is NOW, not where its intended to end up. I'm not sure the development team has even nailed this down yet. This is simply a discussion on what our thoughts and ideas are regarding "end-game" content.

I'd love to see the ability to build fortified bases/camps. Stuff that would require cooperation between survivors to be successful.

....and back to my conclusion that there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with DayZ outside of some bugs and glitches......just some of the people that play it wouldn't be an extraterrestrial's first pick if looking for intelligent life. lol -
Is the PMC DLC worth it for the higher res textures?
phienyx replied to SG-17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I couldn't honestly answer that question. I had PMC long before I heard of DayZ. -

I dare say all of these under-aged, immature, internet Rambo's who talk all this big shit about how they'd go around shooting anyone because they trust no one wouldn't do shit but piss their pants in the case of a real Zombie Apocalypse. How many own or are even proficient with a weapon? How many have the knowledge or skills to survive alone? How many have killed anything, let alone another person? Let me tell you all something. In the case of a zombie apocalypse or any other more realistic catastrophic event that would require people to survive on their own skills and knowledge, you would not suddenly become any more bad ass than you are right now. You won't magically learn how to handle any weapon better than you do now, you will not suddenly gain the knowledge of an expert survivalist, nor would you transform from internet warrior to a hardened, kill without conscience trained survivalist warrior. If any of your found yourself alone in the world with nothing to keep you company except those zombies outside that want to eat your face, you'd shit your pants and wish you had a friend to help keep you safe. The bullshit bravado and tough talk is just pathetic. Would there be cold blooded murderers out there? Yes, but these are not the individuals who are sitting here on the internet playing DayZ and talking about how they WOULD go out kill people if the world went to shit. Those that would actually do this are more than likely to be out there actually doing it right now. -
The OP's request is not only selfish, but it makes no sense from any point of view. Arma III, I'm assuming will eliminate so many of the bugs that are a problem in DayZ now. Why would anyone halt the forward progress and overall improvement based on a couple in the community not wanting or able to spend money on the new and improved version of the project?

I, for one am done with this potentially great game and shitty community until they have a solution to every motherfucker you encounter shooting on sight. This is just fucking ridiculous. -

next Patch: FIX D/C BEFORE NEW FEATURES
phienyx replied to osiriszoran's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The reason DC is probably NOT a priority because it is not a game breaking bug for anyone. So the person your shooting at gets away by an "unfair" technical means.... Big deal. Some people think being shot on sight without provocation should be dealt with first and is unfair also. So it renders zombies "not dangerous"? Well if you don't do it, that solves your problem there. You are able to experience the full danger of zombies. Why are you worried about anyone else's experience? Do I think DC needs to carry greater penalty? Yes. But looking at it objectively.... It does not ruin the individual player experience for other players because someone decides to D/C to avoid death. As long as you don't do it D/C ing does not effect you. -

Players - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
phienyx replied to DayZHunter's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't get me wrong. I am not against the feeling of having to be on guard against other players, but not almost EVERYONE you meet is not going to gun you down because you're alive. DayZ is no where near that sweet spot yet for bringing that whole situation into line with what it would/should be. -
Players - The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
phienyx replied to DayZHunter's topic in New Player Discussion
There are few to no actual friendly players. If you meet another player, expect to be shot. I, personally would be more than happy to help people out that are in trouble, because that is the kind of role I would take on in the event of a catastrophic event as depicted in DayZ. However, because every dumb fuck has a shoot on sight mentality.....it has become "necessary" for even those who would not think like that to do so as well just to survive. You can't even play the role of a search and rescue team because everyone is looked at as an enemy. You'll have better luck trying to find a hunting knife, a hatchet and matches. Then you can go kill an animal, cook it and eat the meant which will restore 800 blood for each piece you eat. Is this bullshit? Yep. Will it change? Who knows...... DayZ, right now is NOT what it should be. Consider that a public service announcement and keep your head down. -
"....are not signed byn a key accepted by this server" Error
phienyx posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
As soon as I notice that there was a new version (1.71.1) I cleared out my @Dayz\addons folder, downloaded the 7 new .rar files from the SWE download mirror on the DayZ website and installed them as I had installed the 1.6 and 1.7 files. Upon attempting to connect to any of the 1.7.1 servers running, I continually receive the following error message: Files "C{\program files (x86\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@Dayz\addons\dayz.pbo", "C:\program files (x86)\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ\addons\dayz_sfx.pbo" are not signed by a key accepted by this server. To play on this server, remove listed files or install additional accepted keys. I am assuming I can simply delete those files or do they need to be replace with other files? -
Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
phienyx replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't believe I stated any statistic? Did I? ....and how about looking back in history? Yes there will always be people doing terrible things and there will always be even more who are not. History is full of survivors of one sort or another that did so by banding together and supporting each other and fighting back against their oppressors and abusers. Now in DayZ, that can be either zombies or bandits, but this is the nature of the human spirit. People band together in an attempt to preserve what's left of their society and culture. Sure, some people just want to watch the world burn, but that is not a majority of earth's population. In a time of real life crisis, you will see the best and worst of humanity. In DayZ, you usually only see the worst. That is why it is not realistic. -
Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
phienyx replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Self preservation would be the biggest motivation for banding together, not necessarily because everyone is so benevolent. Even if you don't like a group of people, if they are your best hope of survival, you're most likely going to tolerate their company for your share of food, shelter and/or safety. A majority of the world's population just doesn't have what it takes to survive alone. The Hollywood idea of the lone bad ass survivor who has survived on their own for months or years before meeting up with a group of "mewling" survivors and becoming the reluctant, grumpy foul mouthed hero is bullshit and for entertainment purposes only. Even some of the most capable baddest ass real life warriors who are experts in wilderness survival in hostile environments don't and would not do so alone by choice. They also don't shoot every human they see on sight in the course of their survival. Usually the idea is to avoid contact and/or blend in with the locals if possible to get what they need and move on. Would there be groups of bandits? Yes, most likely but they wouldn't be the majority of the remaining human race. They would not be the dominant force in what remained of society. -
Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
phienyx replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm gonna call BULLSHIT too. Most of the reasons given are applicable only because of the current state of the game and those who play it. This has nothing to do with and in is very different than how things would occur in real life....a.k.a. Realistic. Too many people are looking at "realistic" from the point of view of their reasoning withing DayZ and do not consider all the factors that would actually apply to a similar situation in real life. These are the very people who give gamers a bad name and encourage certain groups of people to continue to blame the gaming industry for some of the violent and unsavory behavior displayed by those who play these games. I also must add that a majority of civilians would not have the knowledge or skills to survive solo for long. The knowledge you have currently for wilderness solo survival is exactly the same amount of wilderness survival you would have at the time of a zombie apocalypse. (I would venture to guess that for most of those playing this game would be next to nothing.) Out of that number, how many have experience with real firearms? The truth of the matter is that most people thinking that they would suddenly become some hard ass, solo survivor type, shooting everyone they encounter because they somehow think that is some kind of tough as nails survivor mindset, would actually become some of the most cowardly, holy shit I want my mommy pants pissers out there. A situation like this would be very terrifying and as such....if you are attempting to survive solo with little knowledge of how to do so, you would be happy to see another survivor as company if for nothing else. You can create any number of lists for why "shoot on sight" would be "realistic", but the truth of the matter is that if you really believe that load of bullshit applies to real life and you would follow through with these actions in real life.....there is something very wrong with you and you are exactly what is wrong with society. Self defense is the only reason you should shoot anyone You don't shoot people on sight just because they maybe might be a threat somewhere down the road. The very nature of this mindset is bred from gaming and has no basis in reality. -

phienyx replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like how Aaron assumes I've never played a game like this because I dislike the internet sociopaths that are sociopaths in every game they play....not just DayZ. I'll just say that its a fair guess that my experience in gaming probably exceeds your age and my experience in realism mods is pretty extensive as well. I did not even say I was against PvP. People tend to take things to the extremes in games because they can do so without consequence. This is not a portrayal of reality at all. The purpose of my statement is that if we want a game that is going to realistically portray how people might behave in a time of crisis, there has to be something in place to even out the "its the interwebs so it doesn't matter if I'd never do this in real life. I can do it here." concept. Secondly, Aaron the game is NOT currently working as intended. This is why it is still in Alpha state. This is not the stage where it just needs polish and a few bugs squashed. This is the stage where they are experimenting with concepts, features and what does and does not work with the core mechanics....as well as other things. And unless you have some inside information and intimate knowledge that the rest of us do not have in regard to what is intended as the end result of DayZ, I do not think that you have any idea if I'm going to like it or not. It is a possibility that you end up not liking it. Who knows? It is way too early for you to even pretend that you know where its going and to tell me what I will and will not like about it. But I will be sure to keep you personally updated with what I do and don't about it as development progresses.
