  1. Just step over it. That's what I've been doing.
  2. So.....I've found a couple of bigger packs, but I am no longer able to pick them up as I was able to do in previous versions. I used to be able to use the middle mouse button to get a "pick up **** pack" option, but this seems to no longer be working. Is this a bug or is there now another mechanic used for this?
  3. Is it just me or can we not pick up any other packs anymore? I found an Alice pack and a Czech backpack and did not ever see the option to pick them up.
  4. I agree. This does need to be resolved.
  5. Is anyone else having an issue that when they pick up or drop an item that goes in a weapon slot or in the tool belt, your items from your main inventory fall out?
  6. I will say that 1.7.1.5 is a huge improvement. Not having a starting weapon doesn't hurt so bad anymore. Once you find a hatchet, stalking zombies and killing them (as long as you catch them in ones or twos. Is kinda fun. In response to the noise you make being determined by the amount of gear you have: I'd have to vote no. It is very possible to walk quietly with a weapon and a pretty significant load in your pack.....especially when your life depends on it. I don't think this should be messed with "artificially". I think it should remain dependent on how a player uses the existing "stealth" system. Also, was I mistaken or did I see that it is somehow now possible to swim without losing all of your gear?
  7. Date/Time: 2:55am EST What happened: I started bleeding and ended bleeding to death after attempting to climb a set of stairs. Where you were: Firehouse Elektro What you were doing: Attempting to crawl (prone) up the stairs. *Current installed version: 1.7.1.4 *Server(s) you were on: Chicago 38 *Your system specs: Intel Core i5, 8Ghz Ram, Dual Gforce 560s *Timeline of events before/after error: I was injured in Elektro after being attacked by a zombie and suffering a broken leg and losing some blood. I lost some blood during the attack, but did not have to bandage as the bleeding stopped on its own. I proceeded to crawl several blocks to the firehouse where I attempted to crawl up the stairs. As I was positioning myself to crawl (prone) up the stairs, I suddenly began bleeding as if I'd been attacked. There was no other player near me, nor were there any zombies in my immediate area. I bandaged myself and attempted to position myself to crawl up the stairway again, and once again I began bleeding. As I had used my last bandage, I made it to the second level and bled out.
  8. LOL that was the hotfix. hehe ...and another thing: If Zombies are killed in an area, they should not insta spawn back in and most definitely NOT in our line of sight. Nothing kills the mood more than seeing zombies spawn in right in front of your face. There should be some reward for being able to clear an area of zombies....such as a certain amount of time to actually make it worth while.
  9. After playing a bit more, I have boiled down my opinion of the current build to this: Although I dislike it and still think its very unlikely that someone will set out for survival without some sort of weapon, I can deal with that. Zombies need to be toned down seriously. As mentioned above: spending most of your time running around like a chicken with your head cut off trying to get away from a zombie that should not have even sensed your presence....only to aggro more zombies as you are trying to get away from the original zombie is not my idea of fun or excitement. Sure, navigating a zombie infested world requires some stealth but the ability to utilize this skill has been mechanically hampered to the point that unless you are some kind of Ninja (of which your average or even above average citizen is NOT) with a serious lucky streak, you're not going to survive long enough to even get to the loot, let alone survive long enough to put it to any use.
  10. I have to agree that I am not enjoying this nearly as much as I used to. Even when I wasn't playing, I used to very much look forward to my next play session. That desire has been significantly diminished and I almost dread even attempting to live long enough to find anything good because stealth has become nearly pointless. Starting with no weapon makes one a sitting duck to anything more threatening than a cow. What really needs to be included to foster a little more co-operation is a faction system which can be honored or not (given there should be consequences for not honoring it), not unrealistic limitations such as being spawned without what even the minimum of what a sensible person would bring along. Here is an idea: How about randomization (within certain limits) of what you start out with. Now that would be a little more realistic in that not everyone is going to bring exactly the same thing to start their trek. So even the limited chance of starting out with a weapon would be nice.
  11. I agree with Brew78. ....with the exception of unrealistically altering the ballistics of the weapon to serve the game.
  12. Post your thoughts and ideas on the patch. Suppress your assholian urge to belittle other people and/or their ideas because they don't agree with yours. You are no more skilled or hardcore or intelligent than the next person because you claim to "enjoy" the difficulty level of the game more than the last person who posted before you. It doesn't make you any kind of bad ass. Its a game and different people have different desires and tastes. You disagreeing with them is fine, but insulting people, implying or just straight out thinking that you are better than the next person because of your gaming tastes is just childish, immature and you come off as some kind of e-peening, pompus ass. I'm sure that was not the intended message you wanted to send, but that how it comes across. This is a public forum and feedback is going to be all over the place. Show a little intelligence and maturity and discuss the pros and cons of ideas and stop attacking the people who post them.
  13. Tone down the zombies sensory detection to more zombie like parameters. (Most of us are familiar with zombie lore enough to know that these zombies are a bit out of whack.) The increased damage is fine. Zombies are no longer intelligent beings so while they should be pretty fast they should not be super humanly fast or be running an evasion pattern while coming at you to eat your goodies....nor should they aggro from halfway across the field because you stepped on a pebble or stood up once to get a look around. As mentioned previously, the danger factor with zombies should be their numbers. The only way one or two zombies should be a real threat is if they catch you not paying attention and get in close or if they catch you unarmed and you can't get away. Bug or not, food and drink should not be nearly impossible to find. And I'm still appalled with the starting "equipment". A bandage and a box of tylenol? What idiot in their right mind wouldn't bring some minimal food, water and protection? That's not even remotely realistic within the fiction of the scenario. If this is part of the solution to discourage PKing then this is the completely wrong approach. Please also do not decrease the spawning of loot. I don't know about you, but I don't play this game to simply wander around the wilderness with zombies. I play to find tools to improve my chances of survival while walking around the wilderness. (I guess as a side note, what this game needs is a reason for survival.
  14. Yeah, at least give us some friggin pop. I don't know too many people who are going to set out to survive in the wilderness with only a bandage and a box of pain killers. More likely they'll have a can of beans and water and/or pop. Most people will have a weapon of some sort...even if its only a knife. Just give us something to fucking fight back with if we are attacked. I do not think that is too much to ask for.
  15. I have to say on top of the major fiasco that has to be dealt with in order to connect to a server for each update, the latest update has two major changes that I do not think do DayZ any favors. Zombie AI: Zombies are half rotting, non intelligent entities that wander aimlessly feeding off each other and the flesh of the living. How is it that they are (in this update) able to detect (hear, see, smell) you from ridiculous distances now? The LOS thing is not working because they seem to still be able to detect even though there was no LOS. This makes getting into areas to scavenge for gear nearly impossible now. Lets not mention that you start with next to nothing now so you cannot even defend yourself. Its already fucked up that zombies have super human running speeds so out running them is not an option. Even if the LOS "feature" was functioning correctly, it would only really work well in city environments....assuming you can make it into the city. Now you will have players going back to the coast just to hunt newer players that now cannot even shoot back. WTF? I'm sorry, I have say that those two changes need to be seriously tweeked. I think if even just the zombies with super sensory detection was fixed, we'd be ok

  17. Once the you have the game started up, where can you verify the current version to make sure it is indeed installed?
  18. It seems that this issue has been going on for some time now. I did not used to have this issue when I first started playing with version 1.6. I used to be able to get a successful server connection within a matter of minutes. It usually takes significantly longer to find a server I can actually get into these days. (v1.7) What is the deal and what is being done about it....and is there anything I can do on my end to improve my chances of successfully connecting to a server? I've also been equally getting stuck on the "Retrying to Authenticate" screen.
  19. Today I was in Elektro and found a Ghillie suit. I put it on, wore it for a few minutes then decided I prefer the civvies to the Ghillie suit at least while in the city. So, I put my civvies back on. I had to take care of some real life business so I logged off. However when I logged back in later, I find myself in the middle of the friggin' ocean. Since this is a pretty well known issue, how do we resolve this and where are you guys on getting a fix out for this? Yes, I am aware that this is an alpha and some things just aren't going to work for shit just yet. But this seems to be a pretty major issue.

    The PvP Discussion Thread

That very thing happened to me yesterday, but I think the person that killed me disconnected before the swarm of zombies he attracted killed him. He wasn't shooting in self defense because I did not threaten or shoot at him first, nor was he shooting for survival because I dare say that he brought the entire airfield full of zombies down on his position. HE would have been better off not shooting and we both would have survived. The thing is that people are NOT playing the game in the spirit of the game (survival). They are killing just to piss off other players and THAT is what's known as griefing which is not an intended part of any game that I know.

    The PvP Discussion Thread

I had my own idea that I laid out as well in this thread, but I think it was lost when the forums had to be restored from an old back up. My idea was to introduce 2-4 factions that are visually distinguishable in some way. Whenever you spawn a new character, you are able to chose which faction you wish to spawn as. Killing anyone of another faction would carry NO penalty at all. So players who wish to play as player hunters could still hunt members of other faction without penalty. If a player were to kill a member of their own faction, it would be counted against them up to them killing a member of their own faction for a 3rd time (this would allow for accidental or unintentional killings). After the third time, they would be automatically placed in a "bandit" faction at which point they would be able to be killed without penalty to any and all factions including other bandits. This mechanic would allow players a better idea of who they might be able to trust to team with and most likely not get killed purposely, simply for the sake of being killed. Yet, they would still have to be careful not to be killed by other factions or bandits. I don't think this mechanic is two heavy handed in that it still allows for player killers to player kill (even within factions if they so insist) yet allows some basis and reason not to simply kill on sight just because its another human player. You have a better chance of a player of your own faction not killing you and therefore representing a more "realistic" idea of how people would actually behave in an apocalyptic world. Meaning that they might not fully trust you, but they won't just kill you on sight because you happen to cross their path. In turn, that person you may have killed on sight previously before giving them a chance to see if they are willing to work with you. If they are of your own faction there is the choice to let them go about their business, offer to team up or kill them if you want to play as a bandit. This may not be a perfect idea and may need some refinement, but I think it would satisfy those on all sides of the PvP argument....accept of course those who don't wish to play the game in the spirit of what its meant to be and just want free reign to do as they wish simply to piss people off.
  22. I know that some servers have reversed day/night cycles that do not coincide with the current location day/night cycles. Is there a place where these are posted?

In the case that you misunderstand, I don't like the prevalence of shoot on sight "reality" that is currently DayZ and more of the reality that is more likely if a scenario of this type were to occur. As a side note: if you are a fan of zombie games and real life weapons you may appreciate the magazine Zombie Nation. The scariest part is that I think they might actually be taking themselves seriously.
