The one and only Anti-PVP/PvP Discussion thread! Whine/discuss here!
phienyx replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am not anti pvp. I am anti murder with absolutely no consequence. This allows for much more "preying" behavior than would ever occur in real life. Many of those who are all epeen-ho about pvp and bad mouth anyone who wants to balance things out simply want a game that allows them to power trip over other players. Many don't even care about the experience the game is attempting to portray. These are usually the same people that will have that same attitude no matter what game they go into. Their goal is to inflict as much grief on others via the internet as possible. Anything that even seems like it will restrict them from doing this will induce an internet tough-guy rage and they are against it. This problem is inherent of all internet interaction and unfortunately does need some sort of artificial mechanic to balance things out. -
I don't really care that zombies can open and close doors.....even though I don't think they'd have that fine motor skill anymore....being infected and rotting and all. I do, however have a problem with them walking through walls and doors. I have not seen a zombie walk through a fence, so why/how can they walk through doors and walls?

Perhaps he has a life? Perhaps he's tired of reading all of our childish drivel..... Maybe he's busy working on the update.......lol

These threads are also here so that we can voice our opinions in regard to the future of DayZ. This IS after all a discussion regarding the pending update. Is this your mod or your forums? When Rocket tells us he no longer wants our opinions, I'll stop voicing mine here. Until then, it is not your place to tell someone what they can and cannot say here. I believe that our opinions are valued by Rocket even though each one cannot be catered to. I was not being rude or attacking anyone so you can cease your sycophantic posts.

I also agree that bear traps will be used for nothing but griefing and God knows we don't need to feed that monster any more than necessary. Shit, isn't the concertina wire and tank traps enough? Seriously, what do we need bear traps for? I could see a purpose if they could be used for hunting. There are a million things that are needed before bear traps. What's next, whoopie cushions? deployable banana peels? cannonball shaped bombs with rope fuses? .357 revolvers with ridiculously long barrels?

Ok, I have been running around in the woods and open fields for a little over an hour now and I have not seen one sign of wild life. Where are all the animals? There needs to be a few more animals spawning around the world. I cannot find any to save my life.....literally.

POLL:What kind of person do you think YOU would become in a zombie apocalypse?

Does the use any of the skins still put you at risk of possibly spawning in the middle of the ocean next time you log into DayZ? .....or has this been resolved?

POLL:What kind of person do you think YOU would become in a zombie apocalypse?
phienyx replied to richard_b's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In all honesty, I would probably be a combination of the following: 1. Friendly Survivor: Person who happily protects his family in times of need, only loots when he has to, and does not shoot at other humans, unless they are threatened. 2.Woodsman: Friendly survivor who would live in the woods, eat game and make his shelter in the wilderness. Normally friendly to survivors passing through. However there is another survivor....type, if you will, that I would probably incorporate as well. Seeing as I am a decently well armed citizen, I would most likely also lead or participate in search and rescue operations to help other survivors. I would also involve myself in forming survival communities and their protection. -
DayZ is NOT an experience for those without patience or without an affinity toward realism within the fiction of the experience. I may be way off here' date=' but I think the goal is a balance of playability and realism within the fiction of a zombie apocalypse. This would not include superhuman running speeds. First off, it is easy enough to stay ahead of zombies without an increased running speed. Secondly, the investment of time, patience, thought, effort and the risks (even though insanely frustrating most of the time) are exactly what set this mod a few levels above (in concept) many "AAA" titles out there. DayZ does not need to make any moves toward catering to those without patience or the attention span to successfully attempt to exist in this sandbox project. True, this is still in its Alpha state, but making changes such as was suggested here would be tantamount to killing the very spirit of the mod. Zombies do not need to be independently any more dangerous than they are currently, IMO. This is for the sake of playability. You have to consider any number of other danger factors that can and will be active at any point in time. Even if you are playing in an empty locaton, there is the chance that you will get overwhelmed or caught off guard by zombies resulting in serious injury or death. Then there is the likely danger of other players who will come to cherry pick a zombie attack, looking for the chance to kill you in the confusion. Or....how about those newer survivor characters who have little to no defensive gear or medical supplies. An attack by even one zombie could be fatal even if they manage to kill or evade the zombie itself. There are so many combinations of factors that may (or may not) come together to up the difficulty level of the game in any given situation that an artificial increase of zombie lethality would not be wise. I understand that alot of this comes from those who have managed to equip themselves adequately and no longer find zombies much of a threat, but this is also realistic. The better equipped you are, the less the threat of dying to zombies becomes. This is as it should (and would) be. if Zombies were the ONLY threat in the game, I would might possibly need to be made a little more dangerous. What is needed is some "end game goal" that will continue to challenge those who have survived long enough to equip themselves with most or all of what they feel they want or need. That, however, is a whole other facet of the discussion. Zombie behavior and lethality may need some tweaking from the current 1.7.2 build, but they do not need to be made more dangerous.

Ok, just hear me out.... I posted this idea in a different part of the forum in the course of talking about the issue, but I never did post it here in the "suggestions" area. My idea is to introduce 2-4 factions that are visually distinguishable in some way. Whenever you spawn a new character, you are able to chose which faction you wish to spawn as and you remain with this faction until that character dies. Killing anyone of another faction would carry NO penalty at all. So players who wish to play as player hunters could still hunt members of other factions without penalty. If a player were to kill a member of their own faction, however it would be counted against them up to them killing a member of their own faction for a 3rd time (this would allow for accidental or unintentional killings). After the third time, they would be automatically placed in a "bandit" faction at which point they would be able to be killed without penalty to any and all factions including other bandits. This mechanic would allow players a better idea of who they might be able to trust to team with and most likely not get killed purposely, simply for the sake of being killed. Yet, they would still have to be careful not to be killed by other factions or bandits. I don't think this mechanic is two heavy handed in that it still allows for player killers to player kill (even within factions if they so insist) yet allows some basis and reason not to simply kill on sight just because its another human player. You have a better chance of a player of your own faction not killing you and therefore representing a more "realistic" idea of how people would actually behave in an apocalyptic world. Meaning that they might not fully trust you, but they won't just kill you on sight because you happen to cross their path. In turn, that person you may have killed on sight previously before giving them a chance to see if they are willing to work with you. If they are of your own faction there is the choice to let them go about their business, offer to team up or kill them if you want to play as a bandit. This may not be a perfect idea and may need some refinement, but I think it would satisfy those on all sides of the PvP argument....accept of course those who don't wish to play the game in the spirit of what its meant to be and just want free reign to do as they wish simply to piss people off.

Do you ever feel guilty for shooting on site?
phienyx replied to Sedated Dreamer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Unfortunately the internet allows coward ass pansies to act out in ways they would be to afraid to in real life and without consequence. This is exactly why an open sandbox games are not really as realistic as they claim to be and need some sort of mechanics that bring things back in line with the reality of the fiction that is being portrayed. -

Example: I was at one of the fire stations in Elektro and I hear/saw a "survivor" having trouble with a group of zeds. I attempted to move into position to help while not attracting the attention of the zeds myself. During that time, he ran out of the fire station, zeds in tow and I was able to sneak into the back door. I assumed he would come back to the fire station at some point if he wasn't able to shake the zombies because it is a good place to defend yourself against multiple zombies. Sure enough, he came barreling back into the station so I opened up on the zombies with my AK. As I am killing the zombies, he shoots me in the back. I can swear to you that this is the last time I will attempt to help anyone and the last time I see another ARMED survivor that I do not kill on sight. Previously, I would not shoot unless shot at first. Previously, I would attempt to group up. No more. Unfortunately, there are no in-game features that encourage teamwork, nor is it really needed to "survive". Unless there is a system in place that makes this necessary or at the minimum "encourages" it, I can guarantee that nothing will change. Shooting on sight will always be the best way to survive. -

Simple answer: Hell fucking no. As long as the person has a weapon in hand and I see them I will kill them. I'm am tired of having my time wasted on assholes who just wanna ruin my enjoyment. Anyone with no weapon in hand will be spared. Once the game changes and this is no longer necessary just to preserve the time you've put into it, then my strategy will change. -
Yes. This is a ridiculous problem to have, but it IS a problem.
-
I no longer mind not spawning with a gun. I can deal with that, but spawning with at least a melee weapon would be nice. See my suggestion on the subject of persistent disease. It's in my sig below :) Also' date=' I'd personally like to see more melee weapons and far fewer firearms. Maybe some bows, traps, thrown weapons, etc. As it stands right now, The game is almost pure gun porn. [/quote'] No reason to reduce the number of firearms. Just add some additional weapons as well. Weapons would most likely not be that difficult to find
-
How much do you think it would throw things off if we were able to carry a Primary weapon, a secondary weapon and a melee weapon and simply choose which one we want to have equipped at any point in time. Before you reply, get the whole idea of "balancing" out of your head from most other games and focus on if it would actually degrade or enhance the experience in DayZ specifically. After all, we would be able to equip such options in real life.

I want to know what the point is other than just being an ass.

DayZ 1.7.1 Discussion - Others will be locked/deleted!
phienyx replied to Tigerr13's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
At this point, wouldn't you just save yourself some time and typing and come to the conclusion that this game isn't for you? I mean, I'm not quite sure the reason your posting here. There is nothing constructive being offered. No ideas for improvement.......I mean... ...am I missing something here? -

....I understand that this world is still in its Alpha dayz of creation, but there are a couple minor issues that I'd like to bring to your attention. During the course of my insignificant life, I have killed numerous zombies, evaded multiple zombie stampedes, survived bandit attacks, not to mention some very unfriendly weather conditions. Getting eaten by zombies or getting murdered for my bottle of tylenol and tin can is annoying, but tolerable given the onset of the Zed Apocalypse. However, low crawling through a field of flesh eating zombies only to break my leg as I try to crawl into a shed is almost more than I can take. How about surviving the several mile trek to the nearest city only to be ambushed by a zombie who breaks my leg in one whack. Upon managing to kill him, I crawl into the firehouse, figuring there'd be some sort of first aid supplies there. Nothing on the first floor, so I drag my useless legs to the stairs to climb up and check the upper floors. Somehow, I spontaneously begin bleeding when I try to crawl up the stairs. You can imagine my confusion as I have selected a male character and am not used to the concept of bleeding for no apparent reason. So, I lay there and bleed out because the one bandage I had was used after the initial zombie attack. Please look into these disturbing occurring and please advise. Regards, Tired of Dying for Dumb Reasons in Chernarus

Yeah...these zombies seem to be in really good shape for being dead, half eaten, rotting and brain dead. Fuck steroids, get infected. Speaking of.....if people want PvP, give us the option of going zombie after being attacked and attacking survivors or dying and re spawning as a survivor. lol

I do have the most recent version of Arma2 Beta patch. I usually do crouch when going through doorways and into buildings, but I was desperately trying to avoid being seen by the zed that was walking my way looking for someone to eat, so I guess that one was my fault. The spontaneous bleeding issue when trying to crawl up stairs couldn't not be avoided as I had experienced an issue commonly known as broken legs. I blame zombies.
