Elecktro Deathmatch, everything else ignored.

Why kill someone and not loot them?
finalstraw replied to BiGoDeViN (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It's Elektro. Nobody except newspawns give a shit about loot, it's just a deathmatch. These guys normally have everything they need before they go in. -
It hardly flopped. Tactical shooter/realism focused shooters don't draw big audiences anymore and the FPS market is dominated by the two big boys now. Everything else is discarded and ignored and has a niche following. The Arma series itself was very niche for many years, but has only in recently years gained greater attention (much of which came from DayZ mod). But you can't ignore (which you actually just did) that the mechanics (some of which are identical) are superior and better refined than DayZ. I did refer to it as the 'focus' and I'm fully aware of it's intended purpose, but it feels artificial and a 'zoom' because it's magnification is so strong. Makes any need for binoculars almost redundant. Combined with the LOD issues on trees and bushes it makes spotting people sometimes too easy.

I can imagine the aim of the devs is to not turn the characters into spinning tops and also that some guns parts influences weapon performance. Really the devs should take notes at how Red Orchestra 2/Rising storm works. RO/RS gunplay is fast and responsive, but importantly stops the character models from moving unrealistically fast because of the freeaiming. It also has 'focus' and breathing just like DayZ, in fact the focus is superior as it doesn't give the player robocop levels of zoom. Just a minor zoom and enough to increase target identification. Of course lots of lazy players won't like it because as always they can't be bothered to adapt despite it being vastly superior to the current mechanic and with the same authentic/realistic focus. ^Audio out of sync for some reason.

Standalone Discussion/Critique from an Old DayZ Fan.
finalstraw replied to TOPMO3's topic in General Discussion
That's a genuine bug and doesn't work everywhere unlike the exploitable 3PP which can be and completely changes the pace of the gameplay. It can likely be fixed by disallowing players to lean into walls similar to how vaulting was recently change in experimental (you can no longer vault jump with objects directly in front of the character). Inb4 1PP is clunky It makes me feel motion sick excuses -
Every single experimental server ive gone too has been looted already.
finalstraw replied to wmike20052's topic in General Discussion
This thread really highlights just how lacking in common sense and how lazy some of the people playing the game are. The majority of spawns are on the east coast leading up to Berez. So obviously Berezino is going to be looted fairly quickly, it's big enough so you may find enough basic stuff but really you need to head inland as crazy as it sounds. Remember that the unlike the awful stable servers (with 3hr, 1hr, 45min restarts), the experimental servers don't restart as frequently so the coast will be gutted. So basically... get off the fucking coast and explore the map if you want loot. -
It's possible, but don't expect anything until DayZ is at least at 'release' version, which is easily a year or more way.

Is anyone tired of this game because of KOS?

Until the features are fleshed out and zombies are actually a threat (and numerous) DayZ is basically a slow paced Deathmatch. -
Will DayZ SA die out to Mods just like the Mod did?
finalstraw replied to cywehner1234's topic in General Discussion
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that mods won't be allowed until the game is well past Alpha/Beta and into the 'release' version so the core features can be fleshed out. DayZ mod proved that this community is pretty self destructive, with server providers ruining the experience with Pay2win donation perks, custom loadouts, hundreds of vehicles and other things that just dumbed down the experience. None of the sub-mods really improved upon DayZ mod, they just added skins, weapons and maps but failed to address or improve on the core gameplay or survival aspect. Players just need to learn some damn patience let the devs flesh out the bones of DayZ SA. -
Much of the audio needs reworking, but again much of what you talk about is irrelevant. It's also less important in 3PP because again the elevated camera shows you what is near you (even behind walls and cover), in 1PP it's often audio that gives you that missing information. Like hearing footsteps behind a wall, which is why the footstep audio needs some work since it's very hard to 'sneak' in it's current state. Also footwear doesn't currently alter the sound, it would be nice if choosing the right shoes could make a difference. That's makes no sense whatsoever, all you are saying is that like gameplay where everyone is fucking each other over based solely on the environment and camping ability. It also leads to that awful situation where both players have the drop on each other but neither can attack each other because the first person to move will die because the other can see him move from cover (yet is hidden himself). So you either have to run away or try to attack, but it's a guaranteed that you will die. That's just baaad gameplay. The difference between the two modes in terms of playstyle is the pace of gameplay, not so much 'tactics'. It's most noticeable in towns, players in 3PP tend to run around carefree much more as they can see over the walls and objects close to them. In 1PP without that extra information you can't just run around. Someone could be easily hiding behind a wall or object and you wouldn't see them so you have to take care when moving. This is both good for two reason. Stealthy gameplay works as you can hide or evade other players realistically by using cover/objects (again something 3PP voids utterly) and secondly risk/reward actually factors into the gameplay. Risk/reward plays heavily on HC gameplay. This can include things such as exposing yourself in a dangerous situation to get a better view or deciding to run across a street or lean and check before you go. Well... look up the word exploit. It's perfect description of how 3PP is used gain benefit in the game, negative connotations or not. The 1PP wall glitch is a bug, it can be exploited but it's a bug. Most people thankfully are not aware of it and it only occurs on some objects/buildings. There is nothing to misrepresent about 3PP. You even admit it yourself that it's unbalanced and rewards campers. It's a fact that 3PP gives players an advantage over others in certain environmental situations. The problem is that the hardcore player base is affected by the flaws of 3PP. If normal mode is generally easier to play and allows players to gain advantages over others then what mode will the playerbase at large pick to play? Obviously lots of people are going to pick the easier option. For proof of this you need to have played the mod. For the first 3-5 months of the mod the majority of servers were 3PP: OFF. As the months went by and the mod got popular eventually all the 3PP: OFF servers started to vanish. Once the private hives came along (to combat the hackers/scripters) things were made worse as they generally made the game easier to play and turned 3PP on because it was the 'popular' choice. They also made the servers 24/7 daylight, added custom (and pay2win) loadouts and generally dumped the game down to the point that survival wasn't even important. HC players are completely justfied to complain about the implementation of 3PP. This is why the 'muh freedum of choice' arguments don't hold up. If normal mode makes it easier to play the game and gives you advantages over other players then why play the other mode. The snowball effect happens. HC servers slowly lose players, then as nobody wants to play on near/half empty servers they join normal mode servers. Then barely anyone plays HC mode and history repeats itself like the mod. Then we have don't have any choice and are stuck with normal mode. We can't recreate human vision on a computer screen, it's impossible and compromises have to be made but you being really desperate here. First person + leaning + independent head movement + a decent FOV is a close as we can get to reality. 3PP is nowhere near reality. It's a disembodied magical camera floating a few feet behind and above your character. The FOV is actually identical to that in 1PP (you can see this the Dslyecxi third person video). Just because playing on a computer screen that can't recreate human vision perfectly does not justify 3PP at all. The fact that 3PP in it's current form is also changing player behaviour and the pace of gameplay is further proof that it's the wrong way to go.

You get the full game, it's called 'early access' for this reason. The price will also increase once it reaches BETA and 'release', so it's worth buying it now in some ways.

They also spawn in trainstations and the warehouse buildings.

It is easier as a whole, if you play HC with a normal mindset you will die fairly quickly. Allowing players to 'get a drop' on each other does not balance it out at all, you are talking utter nonsense. It's just creating hugely imbalanced situations depending on location. 1PP removes all these problems as the players are limited to a single perspective, the player can only see what he can see in the viewpoint (eyes) as it is in reality. For example if you want to know if a street is clear, you must look around the corner. You can't just have the camera do the work for you with no risk (see below). Also 1PP is not 'overly limited' as you exaggerate. The features of leaning and independently turn ones head offer everything the player needs (something many other games don't have). The rest is determined by player skill and experience, something that 3PP undermines competely. At least the 'fair and balanced' argument holds up. Unlike the 'muh freedums to be a shitter' one, anyone defending 3PP in it's current state is clearly doing so because they enjoy that it's unbalanced and exploit that fact completely. Edit: Also the only real issue with the audio is footsteps which are currently very loud even when walking. 1PP still offers the better gameplay experience despite that since that problem effects both versions equally.

I don't see the smaller HC playerbase as bad thing. HC is a filter that keeps the majority of kids and casual shitters out of the HC experience. HC has it's own assholes and clowns but at least the playing field is even. Despite the small change, Normal and HC are very different. The entire pace of the game is slower because players have to be more cautious of the environment and surroundings since they can no longer magically see over every object. This lack of information or fog of war that 1PP creates completely changes the pace. Players have to look around and listen for that awareness. PvP and the behaviour of players changes drastically between the two since the combat is actually balanced in 1PP. Stealth and flanking also a viable option in HC, something that rarely works in normal because of the unnaturally increased spacial awareness 3PP gives the player. It basically comes down to this: If you want a easy experience, but the camera perspective rather than sight/sound/skill is the main decider of the outcome of a fight then pick normal mode. If you want a game with balanced PvP with skill and experience being the decider if you live or die then pick Hardcore. Also just to clarify that statement as it will annoy some because it implies that lesser skill players play normal mode. Skilled players do play normal mode but my point is that the camera perspective will have the greatest influence over outcomes rather than individual skill of players and will continue to do so until 3PP is reworked and balanced.

Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?

The key word being 'Some' my casual friend. I also appreciate the clothing option, but I just look at the inventory screen or look down. -
Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?
finalstraw replied to over9000nukez's topic in General Discussion
Actually my comparison between the two is that people don't want to actually comprise or debate the impact said feature has on the game. Some in fact with stubbornly defend it because they want the advantages (but never admit it). The problem with the zoom isn't to do with one side advantages, but rather it gives players a superhuman ability rather than a realism based solution to lack of viewing definition. Yes, it's hard to clearly render players and objects in the distance on a monitor (compared to a human eye) but giving players cybernetic/robocop eyes isn't the answer. It also makes adding binoculars a bit void... since I have to build into my face apparently. -
Hardcore: Shouldnt Zoom Not Exist?
finalstraw replied to over9000nukez's topic in General Discussion
This. I don't think the it should be removed at all but the 'zoom' is far too strong and gives too big of an advantage currently. Of course some here will choice to ignore this issue. It's similar problem to the people who support 3PP, they choice to ignore that's it's unbalanced and unfair in many situations simple because they want it for those exact reasons and they won't compromise on it. -
Short answer: Yes Duping is still a massive problem as it's destroys any sense of an item economy or scarcity and people will keep doing it out of laziness. Much of the playbase just wants to gear up quickly and battle it out with some never even leaving the coastline out of boredom. It's kinda sad really. Also regular gameplay is a joke until 3PP is balanced. The exploiting, camping and lack of stealth in regular is hilariously bad. The game is in that awkward stage the mod was in really. Just have to wait for these bones of a game get some flesh on them.

7 of us wiped out by a single teleporter.
finalstraw replied to Lildoo's topic in General Discussion
The teleporting is very real. I've experienced it once myself and it's clearly not a de-sync or lag issue when players can magically jump huge distances in seconds. Scripting and hacks do exist. Thankfully it's not as bad as the mod... yet. -
DayZ does have some issues with FOV and ADS. The 'zoom' on iron sights and scopes needs to be cleaned up, but the game is still early days obviously . Aimed weapons should be locked to x1 with the various scopes then adding the correct magnification. I'm not a massive fan of the zoom feature out of ADS. I find it overpowered and a very artificial mechanic despite the arguments that claim it's to represent 'focus'. I don't think it should be removed but certainly toned down so I don't feel like my character has cybernetic eyes. If you want to clearly identify things far in the distance then you need items like binoculars, if not you need to use take caution as you would in reality. Perhaps how these system will be finally implemented could also depend on Regular/Hardcore, with hardcore having the most accurate but locked down method.

Anyone know how moddable the standalone is?
finalstraw replied to justin1311's topic in General Discussion
I've heard people can still disable the .PBO files allowing them to see and shoot through objects... if that counts. -
The dispersion doesn't bother me, especially considering the context with these civilian survivors. The weapons shouldn't be laser accurate. I don't have a problem hitting my targets.

I loved Romero's old movies, but he's kinda lost his shine with old age now. His later films focus too much on the gross out gore rather than the human stories and socio-political commentary. Not a fan of his later 'smart' zombies either. The original Night of the Living dead and Dawn of the Dead are utter classics.

Majority are deathmatching in Electro.

Many are exaggerating the sickness issue and are just using it as desperate justification for playing 3PP. Increasing the FOV is guaranteed to fix it. I recently played Metro: Last Light which had a stupidly low FOV by default (55 if I recall). It was giving me a headache until I tweaked the config files to 95. I honestly think some people are just ignorant and haven't even touched the FOV settings. I see player screenshots and streamers who haven't even touched it all the time. It's bizarre.
