  1. DayZ is still early in development and Rocket has openly acknowledged the issues surrounding the third person perspective in the past and he has also stated he personally prefers FP. The elevated camera does have a noticeably negative impact on PvP in certainly environmental situations (most noticeable in towns) and it's a fact. It's a shame that people get so defensive and unwilling to consider alternatives to actually try and improve the gameplay. Even the hint that using third person makes you a less 'skilled' player drives people mad and always flushes the discussion down the toilet in these threads fast. Having a dynamic camera would be the most ideal solution to remove the overly exploited elevated camera from PvP situations, so in both modes players need to rely on sight, sound and personal skill to overcome the natural 'fog of war' rather than having the camera reveal everything and making all the former secondary... and almost redundant.
  2. I find the environment to be a bit 'sterile'. Now arguably it appears to be the early days of the viral epidemic (we currently have no official lore to confirm how many x days since it started) but there is a distinct lack of collateral damage and signs of violence. We have the plane crash at the hotel, some blood trails and some piles of bodies (yes they do exist in a few places) but little else. I'm hoping the 'signs of violence' get expanded upon further as the map is updated. More car graveyards, burned out buildings, suicides, bullet ridden buildings, temporary/mass graves near hospitals and so on.

Do you want pooping in this game?

Drinking and eating are also 'acts of tedium' but you have to do them every so often to survive. This is supposed to be a suvival game after all, not some casual drop in drop out deathmatch game (despite people trying to treat it as such).

I don't understand the squeamishness. I honestly welcome another bodily fuction that needs to be attented to occasionally. Just need to find a quiet spot to poop or else you will soil yourself. I get a feeling the PvP crowd is against this, but then they are always against features that could get in the way of precious deathmatching. I'm sure they will be just as against any introduction of infectious diseases and expanded medical systems also. Anything that could increase the difficulty and people ironically shit all over it.
  5. I'm fearful it will just be the DayZ mod all over again. Vanilla and all the difficulty (hardcore included) will vanish and yet again it will de-evolve into a subpar deathmatch game with zombies. The problem is that this community just can't control itself and doesn't actually seem to really care about the survivor horror elements (despite what they say). Server providers will encourage it because they only care about traffic and it will just spiral out of control again.

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

I'm played BI games since OpF and know and respect what BI does. But DayZ is aiming to be a survival horror game with authentic/realism leanings. That doesn't automatically make it a milsim, yet people seem to be treating is as such.

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

Well Rocket himself did state they are civilians and that one of the main reasons why they didn't just re-use the same animations from Arma was because he didn't want them to look and move like professional soldiers and remade them. I'd find the video but I can't be bothered, I don't honestly care that much because you people will refuse be convinced this is a survival horror and will continue to treat it as another mil shooter.

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

This is that awkward thread where people seem to want a military shooter and completely disregard that the survivors are just civilians and not professional soldiers.

    [Lights] Server Time Lock

The experimental servers have the best setup. You get the great dusk experience and it only restarts when it get impossibly dark to play. But providers don't give a shit. Sticking '24/7' in the server name instantly makes many players want to click it like like they did in the mod and it will become the norm.

    [Lights] Server Time Lock

Even with the limited options the server providers have people are already trying to fuck the game up and dumb it down. I fear that even if the devs makes night play more desirable it will already be too late. 30min-1hr restarts 24/7 Daylight (locked time) No weather Stable is a mess right now. The no bullshit experimental servers seem to offer the best experience so far of the game.

Careful with that can of worms. KOS is more of a side effect of boredom and lack of a proper zed threat. When they game is better fleshed out it could lessen. The problem with 3PP is that is has divided the playerbase and it's very popularity is slowly killing the other mode as it did with the mod. So not exactly the same.

HC (stable) Servers are empty weekdays at primetime, they only come alive at weekends. Some nights you best you can find is 14/40 which is pathetic. Experimental HC has thankfully been more popular but it likely won't last.

You are (conveniently) missing my point. If you give people the easier option, they will take it. So the 'muh freedums' argument is full of shit. Eventually one mode kills the other. The popularity of something doesn't make it right or justified.

It's not bullshit. Look at the lifespan of the DayZ mod is you want proof. For the first 3-5 months the majority of servers were 1PP only. But as time progressed things just turned for the worse and more so when private hives appeared (to combat hacking). 1PP vanished and it became 3PP only. 24/7 daylight became the norm. Pay2win perks and custom loadouts (for easy deathmatching). Even crosshairs and nameplates on some servers. After a while you could count the no 3PP servers on one hand and it became unplayable. All the community did was prove they can't control themselves and will take any advantage you give them. The whole game slowly devolved into a pointless and slow paced deathmatch. If the devs are not careful history will repeat itself.

The problem is 3PP is that's it's actually does makes skill somewhat less important because of the unnaturally increased situational awareness. Skilled players in normal mode will still dominate other players, but the perspective is doing lots of the work for them and is a real deciding factor. People's ego seems to get very bruised is you imply that normal mode doesn't require skill. Skill still does factor into outcomes, but trying to deny (which many do) they the 3PP perspective plays no part in it is delusional.

This is the problem and why it's perfectly justified for HC players to criticise normal mode gameplay. When one mode is essentially easier to play and can be exploited as it is then of course the other mode is going to be far less popular and why HC servers are becoming less populated with time. If you give players the easy option, they will take it. So the 'freedom' to choice between them eventually becomes void and we have no freedom to choice at all.

Hold your horses. Skilled players play both modes, but the difference is that one mode is offering more information to the player than the other. So basically if you only want skill to factor in on the gameplay stick to HC.

Let me make it clear that realism only comes into the discussion because realism brings a natural balance to 1PP. Players truly are equal in player viewpoint/perspective terms. The problem with 3PP is that is has very negative effects on the gameplay, which at the end up the day matters the most. 3PP changes the entirely dynamic of the gameplay and even player behaviour (more prone to camping for example). You can watch 10mins of any DayZ 3PP video footage and point of examples and situations that are artificially altered by the 3PP perspective. Players always exploit the camera subconsciously or not. From a pure gameplay viewpoint, 3PP in it's current form gives players unnatural and artificial advantages in given situations over other players. Players in 3PP are not equal in viewpoint/perspective terms. So basically if you want purely skilled based PvP then don't play normal mode.

You are not making any sense. You can't just conveniently 'forget about the environment', that's exactly the thing that makes 3PP so wildly unbalanced and why the PvP is so awkward.. It's why players don't have the 'same knowledge' as you call it. For somebody who play counterstrike and other FPS games you should understand this. Counterstrike is a game of reactions, audio and guestimates. Audio can give you some information on player location, some of it is calculated guesswork but ultimately you must react to opponents purely upon seeing them. You can't see around corners to plan attacks, the same is true for DayZ in first person. Player contacts in DayZ (1PP) as the same as they would be in reality, sometimes audio can give you clues (footsteps, eating noises) but ultimately you have to look (and expose yourself) to confirm it.

The major difference between 1PP and 3PP is the lack of information. 1PP creates a natural 'fog of war' that exists in reality, this lack of information makes us cautious and fearful. In the example image above the 3PP allows the player to see his opponent (and his exact position) in advance without exposing himself and then ambush him when he is ready. He can plan his attack and strike when ready. His opponent is completely unaware of his presence the entire time. That same situation in 1st person plays out differently, the player would have to check the corner and in doing so expose himself to his opponent and then react appropriately (without any pre-planning). The opponent player could also react by running, hiding or shooting back. Something that would have been nearly impossible in the 3PP situation as the player has the drop on him before hand. I'm sorry but arguments that 3PP is 'fair because everyone has it' don't hold up.

That's actually very... very wrong. 3PP is not equal or fair just because all players have access to it. The environment is the deciding factor and in many situations one player will have a huge advantage over another. The problem occurs frequently in towns with lots of objects and walls because the camera is raised behind the player. 3PP allows players to see from behind cover without risk to themselves, this simple change of perspective radically changes player behaviour.
