Short answer is: No, unless you find a low-pop private server where you can know (and maybe meet) people as time goes by. In dayz resources (loot) are limited, especially after 1.7.5.1 so players must compete for food, beverages, tools and weapons and everyone is afraid of loosing his M4A1 CCO SD. Weapons is really what you need less due to the new aggro system. If you have an hatchet, a L-E and a clip you are good to go. You will not shoot around towns and for the occasional PvP who sees first shoots first, so it ends quickly. Zombies are fine if you have the hatchet and can find a building nearby. Food and beverages, meat, tools... Those you have either to find around, or in the backpack of dead players. Find stuff around requires patience and time. Kill others is quick and some people have fun with it, must have had a difficult childhood but to each his own. _Anubis_

"What I would like to see in the next PatchNotes"
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to p4triot's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
+ add a visual indicator you are infected: fever, so higher temperature - remove the aggro for gutting an animal - remove the need of a tin can to boil water + stack bolts and/or add a magazine to crossbows (crossbows have clips so they can old 3-5 arrows easily) + make items fall on the ground if the inventory/backpack is full + make flashlight and hatchet automatically switchable I like more meat on cows (and maybe boars) and the gradual re-gen from food and beverages. _Anubis_ -
It is broken in 1.7.5.1 - you can still abort no matter what. The icon can be used as a kind of RWR: it flashes for example if you have aggro'ed a Zombie and he is coming toward you, even if you have not yet seen him. _Anubis_

v175 beta: meat issues [solved] [old]
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to Dayzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can self-administer blood, especially if your life would depend on it. If you want to add realism, make it last quite a while (in RL it may take hours, depending on the amount of blood). _Anubis_ p.s. how many people in RL would be able to use a sniper rifle like an AS-50 without any training? Weapons need to be zeroed according to eye relief and other factors and you need to use ammo to do that. This is totaly missing in the game -

The 'endless run' thing is actually one of the most un-realistic (if not the most one) aspect of dayz. It is amazing how so many people claiming that "dayz is hardcore simulation, serious stuff" do not understand that... Well I guess they believe in RL one can run by pressing the equivalent of W/shift shift. With an Alice backpack full of cans, meat, ammo, tools, extra weapon inside AND a sidearm AND a long rifle in your hands, plus ammo and NVG and binos etc people should have additional 40 Kg or more, meaning that even Bolt could not run uphill for more than a few hundred meters. An average Joe Doe would start painting much earlier! _Anubis_ -

Walker Zombies is not bad but then you should balance by having players not be able to run forever (like Stalker). Otherwise you can raid a town with millions of Zombies just with hit-and-run techniques (which is the case now in 1.7.5.1, any Stealth is a waste of time). _Anubis_ -

Heard that. If the Zombies will be glitchy/jumpy as hell and using teleport to move a-la-dayz, that idea is not exactly going to make SA sales fly... SA is payware so it has to work reasonably well. It is not that bad to have Z running inside if their behavior is stable enough: they will have to negotiate obstacles, stairs and choke-points anyway. _Anubis_ -
v175 beta: meat issues [solved] [old]
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to Dayzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I play lone wolf due to RL constraints: not so much time to play and odd hours make it diffficult to form up/join a team, even if I occasionally team up or help other players when I meet them. 1.7.5.1 is not a ruin for single players, but it makes it more complex. So you have to be way more careful, develop your tactics. Don't go around unless you have hatchet, matches and knife. Loot until you have those, because you will die without. Get morphine. Broken bones in the wilderness is guaranteed death. Get a bigger backpack if you can. Then cut your risks, avoid fighting zombies unless you have a retreat path and enough time to patch yourself if wounded and carry always enough meat to re-gen 2k blood at least. No meat --> focus on hunting and forget scavenging. A serious blood loss (wound not patched quickly) will put you in dire straits. And hunting game has its risk... I wouldn't like to spend too much time on an open field where you can be sniped for fun by every "badass/superdude" dayz is sadly so full of. _Anubis_ -
Need a new monitor. Suggestions highly welcome!
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to WizardLyfe's topic in Technology/Programming
Try to save a little bit of cash and buy TrackIR on top of your new monitor. When you will use it, you will understand its value. _Anubis_ -
That does not work 100% unfortunately. The best thing you can do is to connect and ask. The players of that server will know. _Anubis_

Run like hell to the nearest barn without caring about zombies or other players AT ALL. Zombies will never reach you and only a genuine a**hole would kill a bambi chased by Zombies. Most likely you will find there an hatchet. Equip it and kill all the Zombies who were chasing you. Loot their bodies, then the barn. It all starts from there. _Anubis_

DayZ Scenario: Would You Kill or Help
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To the OP: I would help. Having just spawned and being the owner of a lousy makarov and an hatchet I have zero fancy gear to loose and I can do something positive for someone I can meet later on (esp. on a private server), and I would do that with or without a reward. Gear is just gear that can be lost 5 seconds after. It is also fun. It gives you a purpose other than camping on a hill eating beans. _Anubis_ -
NVG glasses in 1.7.5.1 [warning: spoiler]
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was patiently waiting for someone to understand where the problem lies in having ultra rare NVGs ... Either keep them at least as available as before (to give a chance to anybody with enough perseverance to find them and balance the odds) or remove them from the game (and maybe make nights less dark). Now almost nobody plays at night despite having 24h servers. A waste. _Anubis_ -
NVG glasses in 1.7.5.1 [warning: spoiler]
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's the problem. It means all the 'old' players who have NVG will have a permanent edge because now NVG are nearly impossible to get. _Anubis_ -
warranted in killing a player?

You said he was behind you. So he could have attacked but he instead said "Friendly" and yet you decided to kill him. No surprise other players now KoS. _Anubis_ -

item spawn rules, how long and when
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to iZaphod's topic in New Player Discussion
From what I can understand by looking at the code (I may be wrong) you have to be within 30 and 120 meters for +10 minutes and then the loot inside the building is re-generated (what is empty is filled and what is not empty is replaced, always randomly according to the %). You do not need to remove the trash. It will be replaced anyway. _Anubis_ -
Can't get blood back from food
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to other_barry's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes - the 1 hour delay is now gone: --- if (dayz_lastMeal < 3600) then { if (_item == "FoodSteakCooked") then { //_regen = _regen * (10 - (10 max ((time - _Cookedtime) / 3600))); }; }; --- So either the OP must eat a bit more to go above 2000 units to see a change or he has been infected so blood is constantly going down no matter what. _Anubis_ -
Can't get blood back from food
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to other_barry's topic in New Player Discussion
It happened to me once and you may have an infection. However, remember the values for the meat: beef-600,rabbit-1600,bacon-400,chicken-400,mutton-400. The blood indicator icon has a resolution of 2000 units (12000, 10000, 8000, ...). if you eat 3 x bacon --> 1200 unit so the indicator may not move at all. _Anubis_ -
Do you KOS players in Ghillie suits?
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to ToddTaylor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I voted No because I do not KOS anybody, not even bandits (they may have been tagged so by mistake), however any player with a ghillie suit is an high threat. I once killed one of those and I did not pick up the ghillie. No need for that if you are not looking for troubles - which is my playing style. _Anubis_ -
Same here. I got an infection but the temperature didn't change. Blood went to zero without any other indication but trembling. _Anubis_

15 FPS on dayz, 50 fps on arma 2?
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to themichel303's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
To the OP: you have always three possible constraints: either CPU-bound, GPU-bound or RAM bound. Were you RAM-bound you would face stuttering and fluctuations in your fps. A drastic decrease in a city means you are CPU-bound, all your processing power is used up to compute AI path and detection checks for tens/hundreds of Z. Alter graphics setting does not help since you are changing the load of GPU, which is not the bottleneck. _Anubis_ p.s. 1.7.5.1 may have increased the CPU load hence the difference. To proof it you can use dayz commander to revert to 1.7.4.4 and check the fps in the same situation -
My theory on why everyone complains so much about DayZ
_Anubis_ (DayZ) replied to kingflip's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Finally a nice post !!! And not the usual "Me right - you wrong. Me numbah one - you stupid noob pussy." I agree with the OP that playing dayz is the equivalent of learning to swim by being thrown -literally- into the water, so it is either swim or die. It is brutal and scary because of the unknown, it is incredibly hard (I would say close to impossible) to survive in a crowded server unless you live hidden behind a pine slowly eating your beans. However, that hardship is something that you either accept (and then you keep playing) or reject. All the games you mentioned have no perma-death concept as well, this is a key element. Either you accept the concept of perma-death and all the items painstakingly collected in days and days lost in a second or you stop playing. The unknown, again that's part of why dayz is fascinating (or the opposite, you just can't stand it). You do not know what you can do but you know very well you can -virtually- die at any point in time. What I (and maybe other players) find irritating in dayz is not the "unknown" but the "unclear","buggy","illogic" part. I'll make a couple of examples: To die because another player has shot me it is fine. I must have made some tactical mistake, so I paid for it. Fine. But if I open a gate, it swings and break my legs (the equivalent of dying if I have no morphine), that just pisses me off. It is asinine, it ruins the immersion factor of the game. To die because I shot in Cherno and was swamped by Zombies is fine. I deserve it because I have been stupid. But to be killed by a Zombie who glitched through the wall behind me, again it is asinine. Another example about unknown versus unclear and it is related to learning: I have no clue about how many slots a weapon takes. Maybe there are different weapons, bigger or smaller. I must learn, this is the unknown part. I have no problem with that. But to learn, I have to try things. So I try to put my L-E in the coyote pack and the rifle disappears. Why? This is stupid. This shouldn't happen, in the worst case let the rifle fall on the ground, right? This has nothing to do with survival-zombie-apocalypse but it is simply poor design. You apply your logic and wits to survive in dayz. If you think slowly or do not think enough, you die. Fair enough. But to die due to game glitches, well that's what really make people want to leave. _Anubis_ -
OK then - understood. _Anubis_
