So guys. You know those things where someone takes a pic of themselves every day for like 8 years or something? Well, I decided to try that with the alpha build. I actually went a few hours without dying, and since school is just starting up I'll only get in a few hours to begin with anyway, I think I can last a few days. Anyone else wanna try to do this for as long as possible? I literally just got the game today so I guess I'm a bit behind the game, but hey! You can see my progress as I learn from the differences between the mod and the standalone! :D I'm intending to be a super hero like before, but without my friendly neighborhood tractor to keep me company not quite sure how I'll make it very far. Topped with the spawning loot issues, "ghosts", etc etc, I'm seeing this as a pretty big challenge. Anyone else wanna try it and see how long we can last? :o Oh also I did search for threads like this, but I wasn't entirely sure what these kind of things were called. If there is one, lock and redirect me please. EDIT: I should mention I put it here cuz it was still under "New Player", since I'm gonna evolve from that, but maybe it belongs in gallery? Not sure how exactly to tell what goes where, sorry.

As of today, while riding along helping noobs in my Tinkerton, we were attacked, ironically by noobs we were trying to save. I survived (Like really, these had to be the worst shots ever) but Tinkerton was not so lucky. My friend, we've traveled together for quite a long time...but it's time for your own adventure. While stealing a URAL I suddenly heard in direct chat "dude, could you slow down?" I pulled over and looked around, and on top of the damn URAL was a bicycle with a man in it. Then he goes "Yea you kinda took my stuff, but I see you're solo also. Wanna team up?" Rather then responding I cruise controlled the phrase "HOW THE FUCK DID YOU GET THERE?" "Oh while you were driving down Green Mountain I tried to follow you, but I got air time and landed up here. Pretty swank right?" Afterwards we spent upwards of 20 minutes in the middle of a field trying to get this fucker off my car with stupid idea after another. "Maybe if I drive forward and you drive back?" "HEY!" We turn around and theres like 3 bandits there and we thought we were gonna die and then they go "HOW THE FUCK DID HE GET UP THERE?" Eventually we got like 14 people trying to get the bike off, posting ads about it in side chat and shit, we even promised the guy who got it without shooting it would keep the bike. Admin came in and started laughing his ass off in sidechat and just spawned everyone a free bike and broke the first one.

I would love a beanbag shotgun. As a medic I could just troll, shoot someone in the back, knock em out and go "DON'T WORRY I'M A DOCTOR! I NEEDED YOU TO HOLD STILL" And then patch them up, get all friendly, do it again and run away.

So, mayhaps way in the future, when most of the primary dayz functions have been completed, one would have the ability to manipulate foliage. What I mean is, say I have a camo-UAZ. Moving the foliage in front of my UAZ, from per-say a pair of bushes, would increase my stealth ability ten fold. Survivors could use it as a temporary shelter from rain, as standing under trees causes rainfall to not land on surviving players heads, preventing infection, and make a kind of small tree-base in forests, maybe stack some over to hide from incoming helicopters. The idea seems solid, but I guess server wise, movable foliage would take up A LOT of memory. Still, just a suggestion.

Bandits are more likely to group up with people they know are experienced. Also, some bandits actually like to vary up their kills, at least the more professional ones, so outright saying you're KoS kind of limits your viable partners to hardasses or crazies.

Been a while since I played, was hustling about to get some gear, found myself another tractor (SQUUEEEE :D) and noticed a group of heroes just sprinting down the middle of the street. Seeing as they were good guys, I went up to them and asked if they needed help, for them to promptly attempt to hatchet my beautiful maiden-skin to death. DMR vs Hatchets was pretty retarded. Looted their bodies, one happened to have DMR mags. Woo~ Continuing, heading north in my tractor, end up in Berez and see more heroes, but these two in a firefight. One kills the other, turns to me, and once again I find myself in a fight with a "hero". Bottom Line, a shit ton of these heroes are just bandits in disguise, and I notice poor little nooblets dashing to them in hopes of safety for them to die for bandages and painkillers. Also, I actually play dayz to help people, and seeing people parading about in what is supposed to be a reward for my good deeds and then doing the opposite kind of deeds dampers my ego on my hero-clad beauty, at least in the game. Any chance in future updates or standalone that heroes will actually be heroes? (Secondary question, is there even hero skin in standalone or is all clothing just lootable?)

If I viewed it from a simulation-like view, I can see why its like that though. Say in a real apocalypse, you meet a bunch of bandits. You're not going to praise their murdering skill, you'll call them heartless douche-nozzles that can eat it. Then on the opposite spectrum is hero. Really the name gives all the info needed for that. This game is more of a survival simulator, and as such this kind of meets par with standard... Then again I am an extremely biased hero of the world in dayz, so I suppose as a medic I can't really talk as if I know both sides of the spectrum. Just saying, it seems OK for me at least.

Well most bandits I've met talk about how hardass they are so I'm gonna presume the first, but your message implied the second. Anyway, for a bandit to get a hero skin would most likely involve what those 2 noobs were doing, and shooting each other in the foots repeatedly for Blood Baggings, which I wouldn't mind. A bandit ninjaing around as a hero would be cool, but he needs a way to maintain that skin without cheating.

Yea, the skin isn't much, but I feel like the reason it has been given was so people look at you and know you're a good guy, so its up to them whether to shoot you or not. The skin has had some perks for me before, while running solo I ran into a group looting a hospital, and when they saw me in the bushes they invited me over and let me take most of the bloodpacks and morphine, saying "You'll put it to WAY better use then us." I feel like people falsely wearing the skin shouldn't get those perks, even if said perks are based entirely on social interaction, maybe its just me.

Yea, speak of the devil mate. Just now I was driving and saw 2 noobs shooting eachother in the foot, then bloodbagging it, and magically one became a hero. Shot them both in the face, I feel like my skin is whoring itself out ;~; Also thanks for the standalone answer, beans galore~

In a serious sense its ominous as all hell. Its like the game gives you a feeling of being watched, its weird. Reading the stories doesn't exactly help either, so just avoid it at all humanly possible costs. Unless your a bandit. Go up there at your leisure.

So, I've been playing dayz for a while, yet somehow was unaware it had an official site all this time... Anyway, for the past 4 days, my Arma II has been perpetually stuck on BE client version 1.182, as its the version that comes with the latest beta patch for OA. Join a server, and it requires version 1.187. OK, battleye will update as I play. NOPE "BattlEye Client : Server requiring client version 1.187, Updating..." "BattlEye Client Successfully completed, restarting." "BattlEye Client Initialized (v1.182)" Then I get kicked. So, being at least slightly aware BattlEye tends to be a butt nugget, I went over to their main site, downloaded the client and server versions, and put them in: .../ArmAOA/Expansions/BattlEye .../AppData/Local/Arma2OA Join a server, and instead of even pretending to try to update, I get "BattlEye Initialization Fail" I tried moving everything around, updating Arma II, uninstalling the BE patch with the uninstall exec. in the battleye folder, re-downloading the latest beta patch, re-installing both Arma II and Arma II OA, etc. Nothing worked. So here I am. Any suggestions? Edit : 1/19/13. Broke again. It went from 1.187 back down to 1.182. Avira has it in exceptions and it just stopped, and I'm getting initialization fail again. Edit 2 : 1/19/13. Fixed it again. Avira's exception list doesn't really give the foldres an exception. So I had to disable it. Yep.

And as I sleep the yellow bellies get their revenge... Seems to add a stranger set of gameplay, but still a type of gameplay. Of course, OT, I'd probably die before I finished growing my food. If it does come though, I'm gonna use all of green mountain. HAUNTED POTATO FARM!

I saw a hatchback by a big oil tank in my neighborhood and thought out loud with my friends "We could drive to northwest in that, quick looting" and they all agreed. Then my gf reminded me we were going to church lol

Concerning the recent patch, I see it added features galore, but didn't really fix some things, which really irks me. In particular, vehicles, specifically ATVs. These things are like suicide while driving, as for no reason it'll dive 40 feet in the air and pretend its a helicopter, then (rather loudly, attracting nearby zombies) smashing into the ground like a bloody elephant. While I'm not sure if its in control of the dayz devs, maybe it's just the engine, it would really help if my ride stopped crushing me and attracting zombies withing a 300m radius. Not only that, it causes some bizarre sights. While walking around Sol, there's a specific roadblock that only loads when you're like 1m from it, and I saw 3 bandits going at about 80mph to it, on ATVs. It gets trippy, because one of them actually flies like 50 feet, dives over the road block, and gets stuck on the top of a building, while the other two blow up. (I went to help but they shot at me so I threw some smoke grenades and watched zombies eat them. Free loot~) On topic, is there any future plans to fix vehicles, whether it be in the mod or the standalone? Also another thing, off topic (I may make a new topic about this) What types of payment can I use on purchasing standalone? I'm 17 so I don't have a credit card, I get like this weird card from school with funds on it for the town my college is in, but it doesn't work with online transactions. Will there be some sort of game card feature?

Orlok, I love you right now for standing by this guy in the most polite manner possible. I too would like (not really single) an offline mode. Play a LAN game with some friends, and the joy of a true apocalypse, it's not that no ones there, to me everyone's just dead. The zombies become my everyone :D

I feel like dayz needs a mall tbh. Like a huge ass 3 story mall, and maybe on the roof put military spawns, but the inside loaded with zombie spawns and medium-loot. It'd be pretty cool having 3 of your buddies and you sneaking by in an area so sewn into pop culture...
