I want DayZ to be more like STALKER in terms of scaryness. That game did a great job creating a genuinly creepy world.

Straight from last night's PlayStation Meeting.

I don't think Rocket is concerned about commercial viability. Straight from his twitter

Every single time there is a 1st vs 3rd person discussion I see this argument against 1st person... I'll say it once more; you can turn off motion blur in your video settings, turn up your FOV as high as you want in the config files and if the head bobbing is bothering you you can turn that off as well. 1st person as it stands is perfectly well thought out. If you have played any other FPS in the past you should have no problem with 1st person view in ArmA/DayZ(Hell, it's better in ArmA than anywhere else, you can turn your head freely from your body, damn it!). I don't see anyone asking for 3rd person view in Battlefield or Call of Duty.

Imagine this; A storm has passed over Chernarus over night, while you are scavenging for beans you hear your short range frequency radio emitting sound but you can't quite make out what sound it is. You step outside for better reception. The signal is still weak but you can make out enough of the words to understand the message, it's an automated distress call apparently coming from an American cruiser which was sent to Chernarus to investigate the source of the infection. You run along the coast while holding out your radio, going towards wherever the signal becomes stronger. Then, of in the distance you see a huge derelict ship, stranded along the coast. Most likely brought there by the wind and waves during the night before. You decide to take a closer look... Needless to say that this ship will have it's crew either dead or infected and have some interesting loot, maybe even a clue as to what happened on this ship and what they managed to learn about the infection. (like logs, diaries, etc) It could be programmed as a dynamic random event too.

I don't like where they placed the swamp... I pictured it as some dark, overgrown place in the middle of the woods, not some kind of beachy paradise.

Well, certainly sir.

I know, I was just having fun. :P

Dear diary, We are now 40 minutes into monday and there is still no sight of any DayZ tumblr update or video alike. I am getting desperate.

Rocket has said that it will be a more 'stable' performance. It will run smoother but not by having a higher framerate. What he's saying is that if you get 10 to 40 fps in dayzmod you will get a stable 40 fps in the standalone. All the engine improvements towards performance are being used to put more stuff into the game instead of aiming for a higher overall framerate on the same machines.

I beg to differ.

It should be hard. I see DayZ as a zombie survival simulator. Having realistic chopper handling really adds to that.

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?

I think you are underestimating the time it takes to make a decent map. Did you know Chernarus took nearly 2 years to make? And that's WITHOUT the newly enter able buildings, new textures and new places. I think we've all tried the community maps, but in all honestly, none of them come close to the quality of Chernarus. There will be new maps eventually, just not in the early builds. -

It means they get the closed beta test to play for free, then when it goes public, they get that version for free aswell. -
I wonder what the relation between the release of DayZ SA and ArmA3 is. They can't release them close to eachother, can they? A big part of the DayZ community is also part of the ArmA community and vice versa, so they would practically be competing with themselves.
