DayZ Developer blog 26th April, Video from PAX and our latest "building"
vaevictis replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I agree with you that hacking is the worst thing that can happen to any game and it is destroying the whole feel of the game. I honestly can not understand why people would do those stupid scripts, like moving players through the map, enabling god mode, getting different items with scripts, ammo boxes etc... The whole idea that appealed to me by dayZ was the difficulty of the game, the fear of zombies, weighing a decision between going in the city (house) and get some loot and not going in. The start of the game is awesome (when you have no equipment and your are scared of a one zombie). If you kill the suspense and make game easier with cheating you basically destroy the game as it should be (difficult, realistic,....). However on the other side, it is kind of ironic for a game derived from a mod not to have any moding capabilities. I love to see the originality of people and what they are doing with modifications, addons etc with arma series. -

In all fair and honesty all those dev updates are just adding to the anxiety we all have when waiting for the DayZ SA. Thank god for ARMA 3 Alpha... -

Wrecked ship could be placed somewhere between Berezino and Solnichny.... Thank you very much for a great update. Keep up the good work! -
This idea was already suggested by a forum member Xul: Gun Safes in SA

There could be hunting cabin in the woods or maybe an old broken down castle Kamen Castle (Rock(et) Castle) (a bigger version Devils Castle)... Or even it could be maybe something like this Lake Bled in Slovenia: https://en.wikipedia.../wiki/Lake_Bled

DayZ, The longer you survive. The dirtier you get
vaevictis replied to exomonkeyman's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In a movie The Road (a Rocket suggested it for inspiration), main character and his son are extremely happy when they could shower and shave after a long time, so I think becomming dirtier and with a long beard will probably be implemented. A razor is a must, but it can be done by a knife, however everybody would do it like this (if they had a chance): -
A great idea, comprehensively written... I heard a prison being implemented on Utes (an island by Chernarus). Walking Dead and also Max Brooks - Zombie survival guide mentioned the idea of a prison being a good shelter when zombie apocalypse happens. There could be a broken wall on one side (outside fence) and it will have to be filled with cars or boards or something to zombie proof it (like a basic base building).

Great to hear some news, keep up the good work guys. If they create a good foundation (client-server architecture), they can build a great game on it. New items, weapons etc. can be added later, the basics of the game is the most important thing!

DayZ Developer Blog 8th March
vaevictis replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
(speaks without thinking) We need an update urgently! (thinks for a second) I believe that all DayZ developers are playing Arma 3 and they have no time to work on DayZ SA. (speaks with thinking first) Well we are also doing that (playing Arma3), so why should we complain... (realizes what he is doing) Damn hypocrites!!! ;) -

There is a way to add zombie killing incentive and add end game scenario to DayZ SA. There is around 7 billion people in the world today. So the total population of "zombies / crazy infected" in the world could be 7 billion - people uninfected. So when the total number of zombies killed + survival attempts adds to 7 billion the people playing the game (alive at the time) have exterminated all the zombies in the world and have reached the end game. Currently for the DayZ mod the numbers are 1,280,705 players alive, 39,243,141 survival attempts, 2,147,483,647 zombies killed. I am guessing the survival attempts counts for all the players alive and killed combined (need to check if this is so). Calculating these numbers 7,000,000,000 - 2,147,483,647 - 39,243,141 = 4,813,273,212. So there is still almost 5 billion zombies and player attempts to complete the end game objective. The end objective award can be subject to discussion (maybe an ending screen, a reset of all servers, added items to players who were alive when this happened,...) What do you think?

This is a great idea and I would fully appreciate it. It would also kinda solve KOS problem. I also love the idea of tranq gun. There should additionally be an option to bash a head or just knock out the person if you are standing behind him... This would add to idea of "backstabbing" people in a game ... Imagine the scenario where you are hunting zombies and equipment with someone and then this person later knocks you out... (double bandit points B) ) I have to agree with Jakub-SK: It is a knockout idea!

Instead of skill system, implement handbooks
vaevictis replied to vaevictis's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is exactly what I am suggesting. Handbooks would be helpful for the beginners and it would not affect people who know all the stuff IRL or have already memorized the stuff. -
Instead of skill system, implement handbooks
vaevictis replied to vaevictis's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You would not read a book. If you have a handbook in your inventory, it would show with on screen instructions on how to do the thing you would like to do (like a in game manual). So you have a handbook on flying helicopters, then the game would show you what levers, switches and in what order you should press them. You will still have to do all the stuff manually... The idea of the handbook is that it will show you on screen on what to do and without the handbook you will have to do all the stuff from your head. You could have the books for repairing cars, fixing legs, making camps, etc.... The broader idea is to do as many things with "mini games" so that the game is as realistic as possible and the immersion is better, so the game would slowly teach you (the player) different things... ps: Of you course you can google for all the things in game and it would work the same, but the difference is, like Xul mentioned, in the immersion factor. -
A can of beans with "horse" meat that makes you sick... :D

idkfa on the helicopter registration markings or on a license plate of a car. A death to zombies logo on a helicopter insignia. Original discs don't FADE. somewhere on a building in Chernarus or a glass of the house.

On game design, "progression through equipment", and a system of micro-skills
vaevictis replied to GodOfGrain's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Actually it could be both... Day one: If you are washed ashore, then you should be dehydrated, hungry, wet looking, maybe a tear or two, no jacket, only basic clothes, even without backpack etc. but normal build (as you have been cast ashore and lost everything). If you play for many days and then eat a lot you should become fatter. If you starve thinner. If you get shot a lot, bloodier. If you play in the woods a lot, then you should be muddier If you swim then you should be more wet and clean in the process. When you find a new jacket, jacket would be new. If you wear the same jacket a long time, jacket would become older, more tears (the same with other clothes). You should grow a beard if you would live longer, but if you find a kinfe or a razor you should be able to shave. ps: No micro-skills, if you can do something in the real life, you should be able to do the same if you play one hour or hundred. Maybe there could only be a handbook for flying helicopter, which would show you the controls for operating helicopter, however you could still fly without the book, but you would have to do the stuff from your head. This handbook would be like simple in game manual (press that switch, turn the lever, etc.). The same thing would be for fixing cars (repair manual), setting bones, giving transfusion (medical book), etc. However the time of actions and probability of successful action would be the same without the handbook or with the handbook. ps2: There should also be a kind of mini game, so that if you would like to change a tire, you should first remove the bolts and then put on a tire and then tighten the bolts, so that the whole process would mimic real life actions as possible (whole process would take less time of course) however the action would be as similar to real life as possible. The DayZ SA would teach us, how to survive in the wilderness, repair cars, set bones etc. The similar way it taught many of us how to navigate with compass or only just the watch. -
replace humanity with human interaction
vaevictis replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I kinda like the idea of socializing. Somebody on this forum mentioned handshake (salute) which would make you a part of the group. Example: You meet a person, handshake him and then you would be a part of the group with this person (socialization completed). If you are a few clicks away from the group then you are not part of the group anymore and socialization counter starts running again. So no handshake -> no group. Handshake -> part of the group. Go away or hand shaken person killed -> no group. This would limit or minimize random people killing and there would be more human interaction between random players, not just shot on sight... You can still play as lone wolf without any major consequences, however there would be random sounds as Xul mentioned (like zombie sounds, voices in the head, doors opening, person crying,....). Current system of getting Hero or Bandit skin is kinda stupid, if I would be a bandit I would not wear an eye patch or a bandanna or any other distinct clothes as a bandit. I would be as indistinct as possible, so other people would and could not recognize me. Plus there are a lot of people who kill people just to get a bandit skin, cause it is different.
