I never understand this horrible advice. In my experience the servers with few players are usually empty because one is a hacker camping out waiting for fresh meat while everyone else has bailed on the server out of frustration.

Not sure which group is more stupid the so-called whiners or the DayZ heroes who are suddenly experts on mods when in fact this is the first "mod" they have ever participated in and scream "Alpha" to any response that contradicts their limited worldview. Raise your hand if you played Doom - Aliens TC?

First time every playing a mod huh child? The alpha's of Desert Combat were just as playable as this and not near the issues, but that was a true mod, not a hobby from a BI developer. Not taking anything away from Rocket, but this is not really a mod.

Rocket...I am begging you make this a one-time purchase either as a stand-alone or add on for Arma3. I come from the gaming days before MMO's, unlocks, micro-transactions and pay to win gaming type models and I think they have destroyed casual pc gaming. It cheapens the entire experience and shows that the developers really care more about their bottom line than the product they are creating. I want to you to benefit as much as possible from all your hard work, but please make this game a onetime purchase even if it is $50 a pop. That is the way all games used to be and I think it worked great. Someone mentioned the minecraft model which I feel has rewarded the developer very well financially and his customers have enjoyed an ongoing experience after an initial investment.

Wow...I owe some buddies 40 bucks. So we have a decent time trying to accommodate this abortion of a user interface when suddenly there are no daytime servers. Spend the next 2 and a half hours in total darkness asking if we see each others flares and attempting to respawn closer to each other. Good times...hopefully they can forgive me since they promptly gave me shit for wasting their time with this. I have camped many nights out in the wood in real life and it was never as pitch black as this game. I could have played with my monitor off and seen better. At least have some areas with modest lighting for christ's sake. And you server guys...do any of you have jobs. Do you only run the servers during the day so the unemployed college kids get to enjoy the daylight? At least specify if you have a time offset in your server's name. Pretty frustrated because the premise is fantastic...but the reality is nothing like the cherry-picked YouTube videos show you.

In that perfect combination of ass pain, I was playing with a survivor that just got finished attempting to find something on another pitch black server where I had burned through all the flares in inventory. In disgust we had all decided to try one more server which is why I started with no flares.

Although this guy wasn't having your problem, he wasn't trying to give you a hard time in the way some others here have. Don't reply to the dicks, and please take it down a notch. Ok...let me try to engage in this slapfest and potentially gain some knowledge of little value. I love for things to scare the shit out of me, so I appreciate the pussy comments but here is the problem. There is nothing scary about staring at a black screen for 30 minutes with nothing but the sound of your own footsteps. Here is what I think I am discovering. There are varying degrees of darkness per server based on ingame settings. There are varying degrees of darkness based on patch version. There are varying degrees of darkness based on local computer settings. Let me try to describe to what the last server was like that broke the camels back. I spawn to total pitch blackness. There may have been a slight outline to certain shapes but nothing that you could use to even tell if you were standing on your head. There were no stars...there was not a moon. Was out of flares and the only way I could get a bearing for anything was to shoot my gun and look at the ground to get a small glimpse at the type of terrain I was in. I spent 30 minutes simply just walking...PRAYING that I would run into a zombie just so I could start over with a new player and I ran into nothing. Fuck as far as I know I was walking into the side of a tree the whole time? Yeah I know this somehow makes me a pussy, but do you guys seriously consider that hardcore? Ok...all arguing aside. Lets take this example: You spawn. Can literally not see anything. Have zero flares. No map. No flashlight. No light source. No stars. No moon. You walk in one direction and encounter nothing. No buildings. No zombies. No other players. As a hardcore badass computer gamer how would you survive this situation? Or even make it interesting enough to where you would even attempt to continue playing? I am seriously looking for honest answers.

Ok...so the disabling of side channel only affects those of us running the beta patch? So how exactly do I communicate in game with someone that is not running the beta and is attempting to talk to me via side channel? Fortunately the two guys I ran into were cool about it and left me alone, but there was no way for me to let them know I was friendly. They could see nothing that I sent when I used Chat via Direct Channel.

Let me add that this has also been my experience. So some people can chat in 1.7 because I just had a group ask me if I was friendly...they obviously received nothing from me when I attempted to chat back from them? How in the hell does this work exactly now?

I used this sixlauncher deal to load and join games. Should I try another way?

Just got this beast setup and I cannot seem to use anything either. When I right click on a bandage there is a menu that pops up, but it is behind the inventory screen and I cannot click on it to use it without selecting something else in inventory. It is as if it has lost focus and is in the background.

Why does every install mention running both ARMA2 and OA? Is the original ARMA2 required or not?

Just wanted to clarify that arma2 will not work with this mod and you must have operation arrowhead? Sorry I just don't know much about arm a or its expansion packs but I am dying to try this mod?
