Well it's because you probably act like someone under 18 if you're that old. My great grandmom enjoyed throwing ice cream before she passed.

Tell us about your most recent kills!
misterwit replied to tacticalbanana's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So I'm on ZUST #1 and there's this guy who just paid $60 USD to spawn with a helicopter and basically ruin the fun of the game for himself and he won't get off sidechat VOIP about all the bambi taxi service he's doing, so my friends and I conspire to steal his heli and kill his bambi squad. They gave us his position and everything while he was gassing up on side chat assuming we wouldn't do anything other than tell him to shut up for the 9000th time. So one of our guys runs up naked as a newspawn to them (they're on top of the factory near polana) and they hold him at gunpoint having a chat with him. So while they're basically arranging some complex set of rules he will have to follow while riding in the heli, we sneak up on the nearby hill. I've got a Lapua (the server allows them) and my friend's got an M24. We count to 3 and drop the two guys holding our buddy up at the same time. Our friend actually didn't know we were there and doing the shooting so he got proper scared and ran under the heli and hid there. We had to talk him down and after that we looted their stuff and flew off. Then the guys we killed start telling this donator guy the heli got swiped and they're dead and they ask our friend if he got shot too and he tries to play dumb and says "oh they made me get on the heli and we're in the air, sorry!" So they get pissed and start calling him a traitor among other things and I just cut them off while I'm flying their heli by shouting "I told ya to shut up in side chat ya dumb cunts!" and we just laugh to the point of hysteria off into the sunset. They haven't spoken a word in sidechat in weeks. -

Eh, is there a particular reason you're posting this at the Bandit Campfire? Sorry, but unless you want to join up to troll someone I'll just poke around my usual hives. -
Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
misterwit replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The game needs a lot more sidearms if melee weapons are going to be more prevalent and more likely to clog up the primary weapon slot. Just some more peashooters and revolver types would be enough. -
Do you think there will still be some kind of appearance-based reward for having high/low humanity? I would think that could be abused if you could spawn in hero clothes if you're short on fresh changes of britches.

When was the first time YOU killed someone in DayZ?
misterwit replied to tacticalbanana's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had just finished looting a tent I found not far from balota on a server (had an L85 which I had no idea how to use because I had just started playing), and I was running through the woods to meet my friends that didn't die and someone ran past me. I freaked out and emptied half a clip into him. -
Personally, I expect PvP to migrate from high-powered sniper rifles at long ranges to people spamming pot-shots at near-sniper ranges with normal weapons. Just because I might break the bag of Skittles in your pocket doesn't mean I won't want a fresh pair of hiking boots as much when I know I won't get either if I let you go. Hell, I'd light you on fight and scrape off what's left for less than that. PvP will just require even more patience and positioning, without a whole lot of change in how people play or what we do for fun.

And so it begins, the adventures of Naked Hiking Man.

Devblog update: Where is the Standalone?
misterwit replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Absolutely not. What if a zombie hits you and you have no bandages and you have to leave in a couple minutes for something important? I already played a game where I was punished for having a life, I don't want another. If you want to solve combat logging all you have to do is make the player persist in the world for a minute after shooting/getting shot whether they're logged in or not. -

The problem is that your point isn't on the moral high-ground. You're basically trying to incite the equivalent of a consumer's union. There's always going to be superior and inferior games in the marketplace because some people like what's cheap and quick while others like quality. That's why there's 92 billion $3 phone/facebook games and only a couple AAA titles at a given time. You can't MAKE people want more if they don't care if it's better or not. That's like telling people they're not allowed to prefer non-organic foods, or that it's morally reprehensible. It's a free market and people with taste and money are in the minority. Trying to shake people out of their love for cheap, instant gratification is impossible. -
What do you feel like when you kill someone?

What do you call the feeling of shooting someone to death with a dinnerbell and taking the AS50 they pay $60 to spawn with? I like that one. -

What makes a successful bandit???
misterwit replied to DazTroyer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The most successful bandit lives I've lived were all about going into areas undetected or staying a long distance from your killzone at a point where a normal player won't expect you. When sniping, you need to be super-patient. Zeroing works great all the way out to the limits of your rifle, so as long as you have all the key windows, loot piles, and vehicles sorted out ahead of time, you just need to wait for them to sit still and give you the shot. If you're fighting with anything else, it's all about using walls and leaning. In these kinds of fights, you don't usually know you're going to be fighting until you hear someone drive up or you hear the zombie aggro, so your success at staying hidden will come down to how careful you were at not being spotted before they moved in and how well you can stay that way. Don't let any fight turn into a shootout. Make your shots and if things go well, loot what you want, bury the body so the extra guns don't get picked up, and leg it. If things go south, run. If you can't run, take them on a goose chase to somewhere with only one or two entrances with lots of Zed. The zombies will make it hard for them to linger outside and the limited entries will force them to walk into your bullets. At this point they'll either back off or it'll come down to skill and who's nerves are the least shot. -

Dropping magazines may be standard practice, but you should be able to choose. I can't think of a time where I needed the extra reload speed so badly that I was willing to drop my magazine to save my life. It's not like survivors are spetznaz or navy seals or anything, they won't know the importance of reload speed over magazine recycling. Also, magazines are easily replaced in the real world here because there are still people alive to make them. If you didn't know the next time you'd ever see a compatible magazine again in your LIFE, you probably would hold on to it. -

But a lot of gamers ARE dumb. That's why bush-wookies die to makarovs so much. Eugh, I'll clarify. You can't ask someone who hands over their hard-earned/begged-for money to admit their buyer's remorse. See dreamcasts. The whole lot of us are just a bunch of consumers sharing stories about the products we buy (our experiences/ funny stories/ etc), and who wants to be the guy in the group who has nothing to show for but half a game and about 40 stories of times when a hacker shot them or they got beat to death with a flashlight? Forums and the internet amplify this effect because people have anon-bravery mixed with internet tough guy syndrome, so everyone has to prove themselves all the time and get hyper-defensive. Go to a game forum and click a thread and try reading half the shit on it from the perspective of someone like a game publisher, and you'll see why we look like a bunch of grunting apes to them. -

Helos' DO need a lot of upkeep... in real life. Obviously they don't need much in Day Z mod so I wouldn't be talking about that, now would I? -

M79 breech loading grenade launcher with choice of buckshot and HE shells. The gun is basically a rehashed battle rifle stock with a giant metal tube latched to it. About as durable of a weapon as you can get, and it doesn't get much cooler. I always bemoaned how M203's are cool and all in Day Z, but without a dedicated platform to shoot from you're basically just lobbing bombs around to scare people, and the M4A1 HWS's sights are ugly as sin to use (no visibility). I dunno, sneaking is great and all but sooner or later someone will find a way to get by in the game by more than the skin on their teeth and say to themselves "You know, I've got 7 hours of game time before I run out of beans and water, and that guy over there's got a GPS and a cigarette lighter that I want but don't feel like trading for." And that's right about the time when the game will succeed or fail to that person based on how much fun they can have putting other people and themselves in danger. -

I hope they don't make heli's too hard to fly. They are supposed to be an endgame item and they should be a superior vehicle than things that are easier to find. If helicopters are so difficult that you are more likely to die and lose all your end-game level gear to weather and underpracticed pilots than if you just ran through every city between point A and Point B, then helicopters become stupid. Nerfing of helos should be in upkeep. Helos need a lot of upkeep to maintain and repairs aren't anywhere near as easy as the game makes it out to be (who the fuck can carry a main rotor assembly anyway). A well-kept helicopter should be one of the most sought after items in the SA, end of discussion. -

One thing I want to see is a mechanism that will allow me to communicate via whisper to people I can't group up with via second-party VoIP. My friends and I thought that you could make a communication device by looting broken radios, where you can type in chat on a special channel, and the in-game mechanic would be that the character would send the message in morse code though the radio you rigged. This would allow text chat that is explained in-game over long distances. It would work like Local chat in that it has a maximum range, though. -

I think that the problem with group elements is that the usefulness of those features is still hard to picture. Consider that much of the game will be different and will be harder. Surviving on your own will be really hard and trusting people will be even harder. Making it so that the game puts pressure on your through these elements is exactly the thing rocket has been building towards all along. There won't be any safeties on this game, anything that makes the game easier will be taken away unless the game becomes fundamentally broken or impossible because of it. Right now there is no struggle, as long as hackers don't nuke your tents (thanks for that ZUST-buddies) you can bounce back into the game like nothing happened even in the worst scenarios. On top of that, a quick sprint into cherno for blood and a dinner bell and you can pretty much do anything you want all day without any fear of zed nor bandit. The game has become easy and the players have long forgotten that it was supposed to be a game where you tried to survive zombies, not teleport hacks and AS50's.
