DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
misterwit replied to willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Look I don't even want to see the alpha in the steam marketplace until I can get a TF2 hat, and a special collector's edition that lets me spawn with a revolver that has it's gunshot sounds replaced with the demoman going "KaBEEEEEEEEEEWM". The revolver itself also has to have its serial number replaced with Gabe Newell's signature. -
1. Lapua (if server allows) 2. M14 AIM 3. M40A3 4. Mk.48 5. Dinnerbell

The Importance of the Humanity System in Maintaining a Healthy Player Base

I think the two of you have also skipped over the possibility of people getting a bandit skin when they are not bandits full-time. I'm pretty much always a bandit now because the survival aspect of the game is so easy that killing people is all you have left to get out of it once you've been playing for months. I know the cities by heart, I can get transportation, so all I can really do is either kill zeds or help bambis (which half of them are recently deceased bandits looking for a quick boost to their gear). However, there was a time when I was KOS in cherno and electro, just dinnerbell banditing until I killed someone with good gear, and then I would go out and explore and do the bambi babysitter service. Of course, that's kind of hard when you've got a bandit skin, so after I while I just gave up. Bambi's rarely remember who you are even if you're on a private hive, they have no way to repay you, they are usually really bad at the game and make for extra baggage, so you can't take them anywhere, and they also take all the loot that you would've taken for yourself if you were alone/ with friends. So at this point in my DayZ days, I was a bandit without any reputation for helping the people I actually did help, and it was nigh-impossible to have any friendly encounters after that. I mean, I got over it, because my friend and I just went and killed everyone all the time once we completely gave up, but I think you can see how the "friendly" mentality is only useful to people who are NEW. I don't need anyone to fetch me a hatchet and a makarov, I don't need a car or a map, and I don't really even need anyone to fight alongside, but because I've played long enough to (usually) have a strong kit and a bandit skin, it forbids me from switch up if I decide to do something different. DayZ needs veteran players, too. Veteran players need to be able to do different things day-to-day. Bandit skins tell them that their experience in the game no longer affords them variety. Also, bambis are selfish assholes who typically don't respect the sacrifice it takes to keep an extra person tied to you. -
Haven't played this game for about 2 months now, but in the time I've lurked the forum I haven't seen anyone discuss the build they work towards as their longer bandit lives carry on. Hell, even your build as a survivor can be seen in just about the same light, so if you've got a kit you know works, let's hear it. It's pretty easy to understand that you'll stretch for a big backpack and all the tools your belt can hold, so you can leave those parts out. Mainly, what weapons do you carry, why do you carry them, and what do you keep in the slots the magazines don't take up? Ever since the first time I picked up an M14 AIM, I knew that was going to be the weapon I kept at the ready. If you can't break a shinbone or make someone a new eyesocket with the M14, you can't shoot at all. Literally the best gun. Second choice would be a winchester or FAL for pretty much the same reasons but minus some performace / ammo availability. Second weapon was usually an M40A3, since I played on a hive that allowed them for as long as I can recall, but more often than not, it was either a shotgun or a kobra. Both are really common, and since I would only use them for urban sweeps, I only had to keep a mag or two. If I was a lucky man, I'd take anything with a grenade launcher in this space. As for kit, I actually adore smoke grenades, as they've saved my life from man and zed alike several times. Leaving two slots for whatever grenades I can find, I pretty much used the rest of the space for ammo, 3 morphine, 1 blood bag, a jillion food, 2 painkillers, and a jerry can.

How Did You First Become a Bandit?
misterwit replied to TheRaptorFence's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I got a dinnerbell and was running to meet up with some friends when another guy ran past me in the woods. He didn't see me because I hit the dirt when I saw him, so I shot him in the ass and he logged (back when it was super-easy to do that). Then I found a tent full of guns (which in retrospect was hacked for sure, but I had only 1 day of prior experience so I didn't know). Took an L85 and a backpack with an M16 HWS in it and ran into Cherno foaming at the mouth because I felt like I had just taken the jetpack to the top of the foodchain. It was a quiet trip though, since there were like 8 of us and we looked like sasquatch if his hair was machinegun belts. -
DayZ Developer Blog 15th April Highest one ever
misterwit replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I have every confidence that if the team can continue to make the game for the game's sake, they will be among those development teams which give gamers like myself and countless more hope in a world where we are choked by the spam of places like EA. The best work comes from the desire for excellence. EDIT: Nice to see you at PAX Dean+Matt, I enjoyed the panel very much. -

I, for one, welcomed my new herpy dooves muffin overlord :C

What a drama queen. Surprise, this is a game, not your Walking Dead fanfiction. The "holier than thou" attitude people carry around is warrant enough to grab the nearest dinner bell and roam cherno cackling like father gregori and shooting everyone.

Ethics of the common player

1: You could be armed and just have the gun in your pack. That means you could draw on me at any moment. 2: You could be an annoying noob who won't shut up. I don't want to get spotted with my nice gear so I probably don't want to talk. 3: Dead people can't help their friends on skype as much as living people. 4: You are probably a loot-hungry bastard who's going to take everything in the next town, so I'm going to shoot you after if not before anyway. 5: People getting trolled on the coast summons badasses with helicopters if you do it enough. I enjoy summoning badasses. They drop helicopters. -
No, it means you're a pinata with legs. Oh yeah, advice. All I can say is that fights aren't worth fighting unless you get the first shot and you see them before they see you. This means that before any shooting happens, you should know what cards are on the table. If you're outnumbered, make sure you don't get greedy and don't be afraid to move.

>Threads and comments all over bandit campfire about bandits being assholes that ruin gameplay. Suddenly, disconnections, loot cycling, admin abuse, hacking, and glitches!

Please. Please. Please. Put in zombies that trip and fall on stairs and ladders. They are the undead, they should be stupid. Stairs should all look like M.C.Escher paintings to zombies, and ladders should just be unfathomable to them altogether.
