Government experiment gone wrong... I think. I don't know the details, I wasn't paying attention when they told me, to busy admiring the size of my... Gun...
  1. Thanks for the reply Exo. I've searched the addon files in both the steamapps and the my docs ARMA folder manually and with the search function, and they don't seem to exist. As much as I want to play this game, I don't want to cheat anyways...
  2. Thanks for the reply again Mel, it is nice to know somebody is trying. :} Yes, it's probably both. I am thinking it has less to do with the CPU, which LOOKS like it fulfills the recomended requirements, and more to do with the GPU. Though if I understand correctly, ARMA 2 is really bad about managing the workload between the CPU and GPU (Something they should be spending more time on for the patches.) I would have overclocked it by now, but the rig is a public machine for the whole household and it is not my business to muck with it to that extreme. One thing that I do remember is that my FPS shot WAY up if I'm on the map screen. I ran through the high command training mission and had no slowdown at all while on the map. To me, this sounds like the GPU ducks out of the process and the CPU takes over, meaning it can handle the computations fine. I will have to verify this in FRAPS tonight, but for right now, work calls. Any more advise you and anyone else can give me is much appreciated.
  3. Thanks for the reply Mel! Yeah, I've given the resolution a whirl and it made barely enough of a diference to make up for the oil-painting look, an extra 2 or 3fps. Still too choppy in woods or towns to make it feel worth it. Yeah, the 8400 is not good. But is the CPU is the problem and there is nothing I can do for now, or is it worth picking up a new Nvidia GTX 660 TI or something like that if that will help fix the problem?
  4. Hey DayZ community! First I would like to say to the devs: I love the mod! Despite the titular issue, I can tell you guys went to alot of trouble and did a wonderful job! Especially considering the fact that ARMA's engine is not the easiest criter to work with but you guys have made a briliant game here, really! My experiences so far have been enjoyable all things considered, and the community is wonderful as well! Now to business... I had intended to get DayZ from the word go, so I purchaed ARMA Combined Arms pack from Steam ( cursed be it's name :] ) last monday and gave it a whirl so I could gauge how it would run. Right off I ran into the now-infamous lag problem. I also have the same issue with ARMA 2 OA. I have since dug around the web over the course of the last three dayz and belive me when I say this, I have tried EVERYTHING in the top three pages in the Google search "ARMA 2 laggy" and most useful linguistic variations... Everyting. If you can think of it, I've definatly probably tried it with the exception of anything to do with BIOS (Scary shit in there, mang...) The rig in question can run other games well with little issue (though I'm fully aware that has little to do with how it handles ARMA et. al. The rig is about 2 years old or so. SO! 20fps in open wilderness, -- 15fps if buildings or trees are involved at a distance -- <10fps if in an urban, rural, or woodland setting (all FRAPS verified). Graphical settings are all low or disabled except for driver memory which is set to default. I've asked a few techies that I know and I have come to the following conclusion -> Something to do with my rig is not up to snuff. My knowlage of desktop tech was antiquated (~5 years, give or take) up untill tuesday when I started reserching the latest stuff on the web, nevertheless, I know enough about what we are talking about to understand you if you want to talk basic techno-babble. If it's the (admitedly ancient) GPU, that can be solved with a quick trip to Fry's and a few minutes inside the tower. But I am teribly afraid that the CPU is shit and I'm out of luck untill the Stand-Alone comes out, if then... All drivers are up to date... Except the CPU, but I figured if that really is my problem then new drivers won't make much of a difference. :] Thank you all so much for your time and I hope I can smooth this thing out and get down to hunting some zackz! Additional: I got ahold of Dayz from Dayz Commander.
