  1. The usual server that I play on (EU 25) seems to be passworded - and 3 players on it constantly. I'm sure I read somewhere this is against the rules?
  2. Aren't we "DayZ players" already too military'ish? We're supposed to be civilians... I really dislike the whole ghilie suit and camo clothing thing. We should be in torned jeans and dirty ACDC t-shirts, not covered in military camouflage sporting night vision and high powered sniper rifles... Hell yes for different civilian clothing options, enough with the army commando BS.
  3. haha pathetic DC'er is pathetic... And you could have even editted that part out... so +1 for honesty, or +1 for stupidity, whichever is the case.
  4. Actually that's a good idea - but I'd take it slightly further. Don't announce the fix to exploits so you can easily catch them trying to do it, then permanently banned them for Arma II. Then make an arrangement with Valve and permanently ban them from Steam - their whole account, every single game. Then make an arrangement with ATI and Nvidia so their drivers trigger their cards to always function at 100% GPU use and their fan speeds stuck at 1%. Make it happen!

    The thing about NVGs

You are correct OP. This is the mentality of most players (read: Not all, but most) Server hop until NVG's found - Once NVG is aquired, play strictly on night time servers (with no moon) so they can use said NVG's to their fullest, while running minimal risk from those without. I like playing at night, with flashlights, chem lights, the occasional flare here and there, makes it more tense for me and friends I play with, but we have just about zero chance against an NVG player, even when trying to blind them with road flares. Server hoppers are plenty at night - but the few normal players that exist, are usually the more friendly types, who you can actually team up with, hold a conversation and exchange gear.
  6. Removing the chat was one of the best changes to Day Z imo. Not having 5 people spamming russian characters every 2 seconds - and other 5 asking "Whose shooting in Cherno/Elektro" adds to the already claustrophobic feel the game provides, you are ALONE, no one can hear you, no one can help you. And in cities it's easy enough to use the proximity chat/voice, just make sure you got something between you and the guy you're gonna talk to! :D

So, what are you wearing? ;)

What would I wear on a zombie thing apocalypse? Probably jeans, a t-shirt, some good running shoes and a coat if it's cold! :/ Judging by the movies and how many people are left alive after the dust quiets down and things kick into "survival", probably less than 0.1% of the people in this forum would be alive, so might as well not bother too much with what you're wearing ;)
  8. So - you tried to play like us "non-shoot-on-sight" players, got lucky, and can't handle the stress anymore. Got it. Guess it's back to shooting them dangerous unarmed guys with the evil flashlights for ya.
  9. I don't think anyone in this game is opposed to PvP. It makes the game all the more interesting. It just requires a few more elements imo for it to work properly. Spree killers need to be identified better - and I'm not talking about the bandit skins we used to have - I had a bandit skin just for defending myself... There needs to be elements in the game that allows us to identify people that will shoot on sight better. The field should be even for both styles of play - I honestly prefer the helpful/cooperative playstyle, but it is mostly a huge risk. I'm stealthy enough usually to be the first one to spot another survivor, watch him for a while to see what he does (short of him shooting someone else, I have no way of telling if he'll just shoot me) - approach the guy, ask if he wants to team up / needs help, and get shot in the face. On the other play style, I risk nothing - I see another survivor, I aim, I shoot, lose zeds if any, loot body - rinse repeat. And as a bandit, I even have the poor shmucks like me who might have spotted me first, but will actually come close to engage in conversation (trololol) I want the PvP to be in - but all the benefits can't be in one side of the fence, and most of the downsides on the other. Should simply be equal benefits, or close to that for both styles of gameplay.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2

Would it be possible (or reasonable) to lower the food / water consumption by (half?) for players who walk, instead of run everywhere? A player who is running gets places faster, thus able to scavange for water/food faster - a player walking will be hungry/thirsty at the same time, but be no where near the target destination. I dunno, it's just a thought for those that like to take in the scenery on the country side, and just chill around.
  11. The twats shooting on sight is disapointing yes, but it's part of the game I suppose. It just made me avoid people in general. I still die sometimes due to my "stubborness" of not shooting people on sight - what does bother me it's that people will shoot even if it means their death. Yesterday I was crawling around Berezino in pitch black darkness with my flashlight - there was zombies everywhere, easily 15 / 20 zombies in close proximity - and some guy just shoots his Enfield at my head from 10 feet away, I saw him before and didnt switch to my weapon as to not look threatning - 10 seconds later I saw the server message that the guy died. All I could think was "Good job moron, good job"

    Bring back the Rare food.

Fully agree with you guys - I actually had to engage zombies in the hopes they'd drop food/water. It was, nerve wrecking.

    Hear players scream!

It already happens. Played my female character last night for the first time - I ended up getting ganged up by zombies - the screams... they really bothered me :s in a very good way in the context of the game.
  14. After some testing (quite a few lives) I believe the whole spawning without a weapon thing is largely positive. However - the zombie aggro feels like just *too much*. I've had times that I spawned, literally ran 2 steps and aggroed a zombie 60 or 70 meters away, in pitch black night. Even crouch walk attracts zombies that my flashlight isn't powerful enough to see yet. The ditching aggro mechanic is strange at best - sometimes it works, others it doesn't. And I've seen just wait too many people sprinting through a town instead of sneaking in - with ditching aggro in mind. All in all, an awesome patch. But the zombie aggro could use some fine tuning imo. My 2 cents. Small side note: I don't know where the female character screams came from, if recorded for DayZ or some wav file from somewhere, but god... it makes a hole in my soul everytime it plays. Congrats.

Man playing on 1.7.1.2 is hard work

It's alpha ^^ I just "suicided" my 9 day character with a coyote backpack, m9sd with 4 clips, G17 with flashlight for them evenings, M14 with 3 clips and AKM with 7 clips, just so I could test the whole gender switch and starting without a weapon. Dont get attached to stuff! Test the game instead

    Pending Hotfix: Build 1.7.1.2

Hopefully the whole gender selection thing will get some love on this hotfix! :(

Gender switched back to male after death.

Perhaps you should read the date that was posted - as in pre-1.7.1 ;) And yes - having this problem as well - selecting female - spawning as male as of today's patch. (still)
  19. That is all I was waiting for. Thanks rocket! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siJlPtWkmzw

    Track IR and DayZ

Love my track IR and DayZ - works like a charm. And personally for me, it really helps with immersion.

    Pending Update 1.7.1 Details

I dont understand this "Hide from Zombies" line? Once an "Infected" aggros you, they stick on you like glue - there aint no way you're gonna break line of sight with them cuz they will just sprint 2 feet behind you then stop for the attack animation, then sprint 2 feet behind you then stop for the attack animation and rinse repeat ad nauseum - so how am I supposed to hide from them?
