This was a good interview thanks for sharing. From the way it sounds DayZ is going to be kinda like Eve Online. If so you have a guaranteed customer with me! Oh man, player battles for underground bunkers and their posessions all the while having to worrry about Zombies is going to rock! I do think that a schedule for the end of this year is a little too premature. As a whole department creation and hiring of needed staff will probably take up the rest of the year. Then getting your ideas together for what you want to accomplish then implementing them will take up another good chunk of time. I'd say near the end of the next year would be a more realistic target to shoot for. But it would be worth the wait!
Agreed. DayZ is the best mod to hit any game ever IMO. People seem to forget that it's still in alpha stage so it's going to be buggy. I have to laugh at those who complain about things that have to do with the ArmA engine and not the mod. New players haven't had to live with them like those who have been playing ArmA since the beginning so they take it out on Rocket and I feel sorry for him sometimes as most of the outrage needs to be aimed at BiS for their lack of fixing bugs over the years. But that's what happens when you have a niche game, you dont have a big enough budget due to lack of sales. I hope BiS (as I'm sure they are now) is paying attention and tighten up the engine for ArmA 3. And I hope they don't take it too far to appease all the CoD influx of players and stick with what makes ArmA the great game that it is by being a simulator. You don't get a mod like DayZ by going the way of abandoning the community like the CoD series did to theirs. Bravo Rocket and BiS, BRAVO!
Has anybody tried using this one yet. I tried using the last one, .94945 and it borked my install and am weary of this one. Anybody having good results with it? ETA: I installed the latest patch and all is well.
Whatever you do make sure your vid card has more than 1 gig of ram on it. Arma 2 takes up about 1.5 gig on mine. Next gen is just around the bend in sight and you will regret not buying for it now. ETA: Go Intel. ArmA is very CPU dependent.
Get the Beta patch from here: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php The latest patch is on the top left. When you install it there will be a new shorcut on your desktop. This will allow you to run ArmA without having to have Steam running. When you do this you cannot downgrade the game to a previous version, you would have to reinstall the game for that. And no Steam does not auto update beta patches, only official ones. So you will not be able to play on servers with the latest beta patch by launching it with Steam.
