Playing dayz and arma 2 mods?
simjedi replied to rmc_blackcat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Launching the game from Steam will get you in as it starts non beta. Don't use the six updater to launch if that's what your doing. -
In the end should i buy Arma 2 for DayZ or wait for standalone?

You can take cross hairs away but don't take my 3rd person please.

I forgot to mention, check Program Settings tab to see if there is an ArmA 2: OA profile set them to use Global. In the Video Options in game make sure Video Memory Size is set to Default. And AA either to Off or Low. Open your ArmA 2 config files (both of them) located @ C:\Users\USERNAME\My Documents\ArmA 2 and edit these lines: GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1; ArmA2OA only for these: AToC=0; PPAA=3; PPAA_Level=1;
-
Right click your desktop. Select NVIDIA Control Panel. Select Manage 3D Settings. Make sure Global Settings tab is selected. Make sure AA settings say Application-Controlled. Some suggestions. Disable Ambient Occlusion as that is a performance hog, even to high end rigs with this game. Also disable Transparency AA. Select Single Display Performance Mode and Power settings to Prefer Maximum Performance. Also turn VSYNC on so your GPU isn't trying to work 100% all of the time. Try that and there is a couple of other tweaks you can do, I can post them if you want if that seems not to help you.

new skins? or do Zombies now have Axes?

Yes you will be as the stand alone game will most likely be based off the ArmA 3 engine, and it won't run on that.

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
simjedi replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No. Just like the example given in the video, tension comes from the uncertainty. That scene could have involved an 80 year old man with his grandson, and after they had a light hearted conversation the old man could have shot them in the back just the same. -
Nothing really specific just some generalizations. You have a good budget so you really shouldn't have any problems getting a good rig. It's most likely that a stand alone will run off of the ArmA 3 engine so shoot for that. Intel CPU: ArmA is very CPU dependent so keep that in mind. Video Card: I prefer NVIDIA as I have had less problems with them over the years. Just make sure whatever you get that it has over 2gig. ArmA 2 on mine takes up around 1.6gig so that will be important to keep in mind for ArmA 3. RAM: Next gen engines are coming out next year so they will probably make use of even more. 8gig+. Motherboard: Depends on if you like overclocking or not. Power Supply: Next to the CPU it's the most important so don't skimp out on it. I'd say one that's at least 400-500 watts over what your components require and that it is built solid. Case: One with lots of fans, bigger the better. Cooling: I have a Corsair water cooler for my CPU that does a fine job. Don't have a GPU after market as I already have plenty of air flow.

No, no other way to get them.

You will be missing out on the higher rez textures. It makes a big difference. Here is a link so you know what's up:

The only thing that can save the mod

What is this "loosing" of which you speak? Is that like the opposite of "tighters" or something? -
Is this a recruitment thread for furries?

DayZ should become a stand alone game using a different engine.
simjedi replied to Harris (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I posted in another thread about this but I'll repeat myself. There is no other engine that offers an editor like the VR engine. From what I can deduct from what Rocket says he wants a Eve Online/Minecraft type hybrid. No other engine I can think of offers the editing power to make that possible. The 3d editor for VR3/VR4 is able to achieve this almost right now, it just needs a little tweaking to make it more user friendly without too much time involved, and fits the Minecraft idea perfectly. I may be wrong but it seem that's what he's thinking. ETA: Here is the interview where he discusses these ideas INTERVIEW -
what exactly is end game in dayz?
simjedi replied to Justin619's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is no end game and never will be one. This is a Sandbox game just like Eve Online or Star Wars Galaxies. It's up to the players to make it up as they go. End game only happens in Theme Park games like WoW or SWTOR. -
Will this run DayZ on low settings?
simjedi replied to TheDude8D's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Core2 Duo, doubtful as ArmA is heavily CPU dependent. Don't know about the GPU as I'll take NVIDIA any day, but make sure it has 2gig on it. You shouldn't be building a PC based on ArmA 2 because it's coming to an end and DayZ will soon be running off of ArmA 3's engine. So build for it instead. -
This is why I shoot other players.
simjedi replied to She'llberight's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If there was still any servers around that don't have DayZ running you could do that. But thanks to this mod they are about all but dead.... :( Unless you want to join a clan that is. -
That's what the editor is for. It's very nice and you can share them with anybody. There is also a 3d one built in. At the main menu hold in the ALT button then press E to get to it. It's kind of a bit complicated to get it going and saved to play your mission, but once past that it's a blast to create with. Here is a tutorial that explains it:
-
Go into the editor and create your own mission. You have to be approved to run a DayZ server and there are very strict rules to run one, so no 1 player servers.
-
1. No, servers are hosted by the community. Except the Hive server which stores your character info, that's owned by Rocket. 2. You can install it on 2 computers but can only play it on one computer at a time, another purchase is needed. 3. See #2. 4. See #2

Ooops didnt see it in first post.

Don't use cracked games? If not and you bought a key there is only a few legit resellers. Thread: Did you buy your ArmA2 key from a CD Key reseller?
