It's been brought up many times, and the general reaction to the idea is pretty negative. It says right on the DayZ website, all survivors are immune. The infections we get from the zombies are everyday infections, not the one that turns you into a zombie.

.357/10mm handguns and revolvers
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Aren't AK weapons known for being some of the most reliable weapons around? Pretty sure they are, while AR16s and the like are known to jam much more frequently. Also, if you're playing DayZ just because one gun is in it, why don't you play CoD: Black Ops instead? It has the M14 and the shooting mechanics are quite a bit less clunky. -
Suggestion for spawning mechanic in standalone
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to Keudn's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't think that the players are inhabitants of Chernarus, that's why they wash up at a random spot on the beach. -
.357/10mm handguns and revolvers
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
We can't have every single gun in existence in DayZ, so we need to choose the ones that we would most likely find there. If you were going to put every gun ever made in DayZ in realistic numbers, go for it. But out of all the guns you'd find in such a country, only 0.0001% of them might be Desert Eagles. So, is it really worth it to put it in? I say no, stick with something more authentic and fitting within the setting. -
.357/10mm handguns and revolvers
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
We absolutely are. I've said many times that most guns in DayZ should be more Russian and fit with the setting, and I believe I've seen Gews say it before. -
That's actually a really good idea. We need to do this!
-
This is what the humanity system should be, if anything. Stained clothing. However, if you headshot them, their clothing shouldn't be immediately bloodied, only if you wait a while and let them bleed. A careful bandit is a successful bandit.
-
I think that was the point of the update. It's supposed to be very difficult to find loot now.
-
Well it would, guns would just be a lot more of a threat... like they should be. Getting shot and bleeding would just be a much more urgent issue, instead of "Oh, I got shot... Whatever, keep driving. I'll be fine until we make it up north." Or, you could slow down bleeding damage, but have more side effects of blood loss, such as dizziness and not being able to stand. This way, being shot ONCE would be a big deal, unlike how it is now.

CAN'T WE JUST HAVE NORMAL ARMA HITPOINTS
-
Well, I think there is a lot of misinformation and not enough information surrounding guns and their real-life damage. And I`m no better informed than anyone else, but there was a thread on gun damage a while ago and plenty of posts saying bullets can kill as slowly as they can quickly. I saw someone say that the average amount of rounds it takes to immediately kill a person with an M4 is around 7 (Don`t quote me on it, though). But a big factor in bullets is where it hits you, not necessarily how many times you are hit. You could be shot ten times in the leg with a carbine and live, but hit an artery and you`re pretty much finished. I still say we need to do away with these simple hitpoints and get a more advanced and intuitive health system (And it seems like that`s what`s happening in the standalone, so yay). But in the meantime, Gews you are absolutely correct, those guns should be buffed along with the others. I haven`t really noticed since I`ve only killed one person since the patch, and with a headshot. ...Wait, so do the .45 rounds do more damage than 5.45 rounds now? That can't be right.

Gews is spot on about this, you're not going to find things like this in some tiny, backwater, post-soviet country. If we are finding military helmets, they should be things we would find in Chernarus, not the latest hi-tech military gear that no army is using in large numbers. I feel the same way when people want things like AA12s in the game, I'd rather have something more appropriate for the setting.

I don't think anyone would want to see this when they think about what people would write. Just look at the pooping feature being added into the SA, and the only things I've seen being said about it is 'My goal in standalone is to take a dump on as many players and player camps as possible'. What do you think would happen with people being able to write and draw whatever they want?

Maybe suggestions isn't the best place to post this, but I figured that players would add their own thoughts and suggestions to the idea, making it kind of a suggestion. Several DayZ gameplay videos involve Rocket talking about having to hold down a key to raise the character's weapon, otherwise it will be held down. What do you guys think of this? Personally, I think it's a good idea. As Rocket said, it would help show a player's intentions, but not in an artificial manner, and also represents the fact that it isn't easy to hold a firearm at the ready for extended periods of time. It will also help curb accidental misfires, like when using the action menu. However, I don't think it should be necessary to hold a key when lying prone, as you could rest it on the ground. The same would go for deploying a weapon on other surfaces if such a feature were to be implemented. So, share your thoughts, opinions, and suggestions here.

A single thread isn't really the place for everyone's SA suggestions, that's the purpose of the suggestions forum.

So I've seen a few Standalone videos, and I think the knockdown feature is a good idea. But I noticed that the character is completely helpless from the time he is knocked down to the time he has stood up again. I think that being knocked down should allow the player to shoot from the ground while on his back, similar to the ArmA III shooting stance above prone. http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/560970355504977031/492CE76945465264342E5393A0C44DB154773976/ Thanks for reading.

Suggestion : Simulation Game Mode
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to bloodiedsimper's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Looking forward to that, I haven't had the time to play the new update yet but I'm always down for something other than constant murders all across the map, at least for a change of pace. I think the point when a live player is less dangerous than the horde of zombies that would come at the sound of you killing him, is the point where things will get interesting. -
Holding a key to raise weapon? Your thoughts
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to Clumzy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I suppose you could hold it over your shoulder/down at your side with one hand when it isn't raised, and raising it causes the players to bring it up in front of them with both hands? -
AFAIK, rivers can't be done on this engine because they can't get water to change in elevation. Unfortunately, we probably won't be getting this anytime soon.

I can't be the only one who thinks building a house from the ground up in the middle of an apocalypse is at least a little silly. I think fortifying and barricading an existing structure is more fitting. And why do we need a trading system? You can already trade items without some pointless screen added into the mix. The most I'd like to see in regards to a trading system is being able to hold an item in your hand, which can be taken by a nearby player.
-
I feel like I don't see posts like this enough. I'm really hoping to see mostly civilian weapons (and it seems like that's what happening), and even better, Russian/soviet civilian weapons. It looks like the devs are taking DayZ in that sort of direction, just by looking at the items found in supermarkets in the standalone, and I'm glad.
-
I don't really want above ground 'bases' either, fortifying seems like a more appropriate situation for a zombie apocalypse. I think it's the Origins mod that lets you build houses, right? When I heard that I though, "Who's gonna be building a whole freaking house from the ground up in the middle of an apocalypse?'. Same thing goes for bases. Yup, I heard a guy in side chat advertising his trading post on my go-to server. I run a charity in Elektro church, myself. When the community knows each other more than a public server, these things can happen.

As far as I know, rivers can`t work because water can`t change in elevation with this engine. The lakes and ponds in the map are separate entities. I guess if you found a very flat stretch of land, you could try running a river through it, but I`m afraid you`re pretty much out of luck.

Plane Crash Sights -- Photos Included
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to carbine781 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The server I go on has mi8s come in from the south and crash to spawn crash sites. It`s interesting, although I`ve never seen one crash since I pretty much live in Elektro Church. One problem is trying to talk to the heli in side chat and then taking way too long to realize it`s an AI.
