    Skill System in DayZ?

I think what should happen in DayZ, regarding skills, is making complex tasks complex. Make repairing a car difficult, having to place a part in a specific place, or you can ruin the part or damage the car. When you skin an animal, you manually use the knife, moving the cursor to direct the knife. If you mess up, you lose some meat. The player would improve at complex tasks, not the avatar. I think this kind of system would be more natural for tasks that are difficult in real life. Things like sprinting, though, may be better to improve over time. Nothing that the player can look at on a spreadsheet, and nothing substantial. The idea that everyone is completely equal is nice, but ultimately unrealistic and perhaps unnecessary. The avatar's physical strength could be improved over time, but only very slowly. I don't see anything wrong with that.

    An issue...

Set up a camp where you bring kidnapped bambi's to fight to the death for your amusement.

Please make crosshairs on snipers smaller

I'm sensing a bit of hipocrisy here... Anyways, I don't really like the As50 and the M107 being in the game, I'd prefer an emphasis on more civilian and russian/czech weapons. However, if they're going to be in the game, I think the best thing to do would be what Gews said, and make the weight a little more prominent (eg slower to turn it, becoming more wobbly the longer your character holds it) to tell people that they are guns that should be used while prone.

    Increase view distance.

They're doing this in the standalone, It's mentioned in Rocket's last tumblr post.

    Idea

Well they already have that, it's the 'Enter' button. You can change it to whatever you want, I changed it to an extra mouse button and now I can do stuff way quicker. I think he means a button specifically for getting past obstacles (eg vaulting, ducking, climbing, sliding), and that's something I wouldn't mind seeing.

    Character Classes

Guys, this post is from the end of July. The OP hasn't been active on these forums since August. There's not really any point replying to this, and it was only brought to the front page because someone randomly started praising The WarZ in this thread.
  7. These are some really awesome ideas. I kind of like the suggestions about more varied spawns, especially when considering this as well. I'm just thinking about waking up in a hospital, Walking Dead style, with dark scenes and hastily written warnings scribbled onto walls. Maybe your character has some sort of injury, and you'd get a chance to patch yourself up before entering the outside world. Or maybe you wake up in a crashed new chopper, that went down after the pilot turned. You may find yourself in a panic, trying to climb out of the heli while the re-animated pilot crawls towards you. These kinds of unique spawns would have to be pretty rare, of course, or they would get old pretty fast. I also like the idea of a global backstory, but I would want to see a lot of it left to the players imaginations. Hearing cool theories about what's happening in the rest of the world, like the ideas in this thread, would be awesome. Maybe you see a random UAV flying around, or a still-functioning security camera, and begin to wonder if you're being watched in some sort of experiment. Or maybe you have your own backstory. I hope some sort of backstory like the ones mentioned above get added in eventually, they would give the game a lot of depth.

    Downhill Development in DayZ

I think you misunderstood what I said about loot. I never said that loot shouldn't respawn, I don't know where you read that. I simply said that loot farming is not a good thing. And with most buildings being enter-able in the standalone, we'll be able to have more loot spawns, which means we can decrease the spawn rate, and loot farming, by a good amount. About the zombies, many other people in this thread, including myself, don't really have a problem with these situations. You shouldn't just worry about losing them when they chase you, but avoiding these kinds of situations in the first place. Getting cornered in a building by a horde of zombies SHOULD be a death sentence, especially if you went back into that building for more loot. These kind of situations are inevitable. It's important to work on making sure that there aren't 20 zombies behind you when you go into a building with one exit, or think before you fire a gun in cherno. And about the instant hits, I apologize, I misunderstood what you meant.

    Biscuits

Oh god, that was one of the most gloriously British websites I've ever been on. Biscuits wouldn't exactly be my first choice of food in the Apocalypse, but I'm up for a larger variety of items to give the game a bit more detail. They shouldn't fill up your hunger bar completely though, because I wouldn't think they would be as nutritious as cooked meat.

    Character Classes

I'm sorry, but how on earth is this relevant to a post about classes in dayz that was made in July?

    Downhill Development in DayZ

Farming shouldn't be something you want as a feature in the game. If we're going for authenticity here, I doubt that a survivor in an actual apocalypse wouldn't enter the same building 8 times to check for a car tire. I hope that Rocket finds a way to cut down on item farming in the standalone. Anyways, I disagree, with your main point. Zombies are very easy to avoid for an experienced player, and as many players have said, they're not much more than an annoyance. We need zombies that run indoors and can hit you if you're hiding in a tree. It's a zombie game, the zombies should be the main danger in it. I've never been killed in 2-3 hits by a zombie. Knocked out by 2 or 3 hits, sure, buts that's a fairly rare situation and I don't see anything wrong with it. And like GOD said, the vehicles are a problem, and hopefully are being fixed.
  12. These are some really good points, all of them. I think batteries would be a good addition, and standard batteries should be very common, found in drawers of homes, supermarkets, etc.
  13. DayZ is one of my favourite games, not only because it is so original, but because it has so many features and ideas that make it way more immersive than most games. I'd like to offer up some suggestions, and state my opinions on some other popular topics. I've put everything into spoilers so it isn't so long. Animation and Visual elements I think this is one area that ArmA II is severely lacking. However, there is a lot of potential for improvement in the standalone, and while I'm sure it's being worked on, I have a few ideas about some unique animations and visual elements that could improve the game. Gameplay I really love the gameplay in DayZ, but here are a few suggestions that I think deserve attention. Items Here's a list of some items I'd like to see in the standalone. That's it for now, I'll try to update this in the future. Let me know what you think!

Some Suggestions and Changes for Immersion

Well, I was thinking a modernized version of it, and I wouldn't really want a semi-auto sniper being uncommon. If it were the older version added to the game, I'd agree with you. Fair point. Maybe a headshot with it would have a close to 100% knockout rate, depending on how it hits you, and a fairly high chance to kill, maybe like 25-50%. I'll update the OP.

Updated to have an 'items' section, and put everything in spoilers to make it shorter.

Some Suggestions and Changes for Immersion

Thanks. I figured for the compasses and maps in third person, there would be a few options: You could have the same kind of screen that is currently shown, the camera could come in to an over-the-shoulder view, or it could pull you into first person.
