Watching the most recent Q&A stream, I feel like the zoom for weapons without magnifying scopes seems a little extreme. When the character aimed the pistol, it looked like he was holding it maybe 5 cm. away from his face, which looks really strange and awkward to me, and the red dot sight on the M4 seemed to zoom in a lot, too. Personally, I would prefer weapons without any sort of magnifying optic to not have any zoom at all (e.g pistols should look like this in first person: http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/558718111937217943/EEB77400FA8C35ED927FF81A0A241EDBDF7B615F/1024x640.resizedimage, looks more like how somebody would actually hold a pistol), since it still looks like you can still hold down a button to zoom in even more like you can in DayZ mod. Maybe some sort of ADS slider from no zoom at all to maybe 2X zoom? Any suggestions are welcome. EDIT: I just want to clarify, because people seem to think I want no zoom whatsoever for weapons without zoom scopes. I do not think that there should be no zoom, I still think that holding RMB (Or whatever button you use in the mod) to get extra zoom, and I think that you should be able to choose your amount of zoom, or FOV, when aiming. It's just that I would personally use the option for the least amount of zoom possible. I don't think everyone should have to.

Zoom for Iron Sights / Red Dots, etc.
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to Clumzy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Like I said, I don't think everyone should be forced to play with no zoom. It looks like you can still hold down RMB (If that is what you use) to get extra zoom, and I also think you should be able to choose your FOV when aiming. I'm not trying to take away anyone's zoom at all, I just think there is a bit too much as it is now, especially for pistols. -
Hey guys, So I heard in one the recent livestream that rocket wants to add a blurring effect around certain scopes and optics in the DayZ SA. Many other games do this in an attempt to make scopes more realistic. But really, if I were looking through a scope and wanted to focus my eye on areas outside of the scope while still holding it up to my face, I easily could. Also, adding in such a feature would be redundant anyways. Your eye can only focus on around 3 degrees (correct me if I'm wrong) out of the approximate 180 degrees that you can see. Try looking through a scope in any other video game while reading some text on one of the corners of the screen at the same time. You can't do it, because your eye can only focus on so much at a time. A blurring affect will only make it so your eye can't do things that it should be able to. In conclusion, please do not add in this feature. It is both unrealistic and unnecessary.

I think the red colour on the lens of a scope is the anti-reflective coating, and even the cheap $30 scope I have has that. Not all scopes have it but I'm pretty sure most do.
-
And your entire vision zooming in has upsides and downsides. And even if the reason for the scope blur is balance (Which I don't think it is), it would be unnecessary to program it in since the human eye already does it, and I wouldn't really call everyone who uses a 4x scope a sniper.

Weapon balancing and spawn select? Not too sure I like the sound of that...

I don't really like this idea in DayZ, and not just because I thought that World War Z (the movie) was a travesty. I honestly think the game would be much better if players weren't immune to the zombie virus, like every other zombie game and most zombie movies.

[Suggestion] Optional anti-theft system
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Stop, you're not being the reasonable one here. So, let's just see how this would play out. A bandit stalks a player to his camp. It's well hidden, but he has tracked and killed many players before. He is ready to do the same here. He lifts his rifle and fires a single shot. The player drops. He thoroughly loots the camp and the corpse of all its belongings. But he doesn't take the dead player's car, because that doesn't belong to him and stealing is wrong. Seriously, is your next suggestion to remove all the weapons so people can't kill each other? This idea doesn't belong in DayZ.- 21 replies

Why is that? Why can't we have more realistic guns? I'm not the only one who gets annoyed that you could graze someone's shoulder 4 or 5 times with an AK and kill them. No, guns in general need to be more realistic, because it is entirely possible to survive as many 9mm bullets as the norm in the current DayZ mod, just very unlikely. The health system is definitely a step up above a generic shooter where you are either dead or completely healthy, but guns are too powerful in some ways and too weak in others. They could use a lot of work.

It's not a feature, the devs of ArmA didn't hold a conference and say 'You guys know what would be a good idea? Let's warp anything that the player puts into a full backpack into oblivion!'. It's probably just an unfortunate byproduct of another feature, or a bug or something. I'm sure the devs know about it, and hopefully they will be able to fix it in the mod and standalone.

I hate it when people talk about realistic bullet damage and they say 'should kill in 2 shots' or 'does 5000 damage', because that's not realistic either. Would two bullets in the leg instantly kill you? That's no more likely to happen than a person walking away from a full magazine of makarov rounds. Now, I'm not claiming to be an expert on ballistics, but to have a realistic damage system you should have a lot of hitboxes on the player, for major organs, body parts, appendages, etc. There shouldn't be a chance to get a critical hit or injury, it should be based on where you hit them. Then the game decides if the trauma will kill you instantly or in a few seconds, if you'll bleed to death if not treated, or if you will die without use of that organ, and bullet size should make these things more likely. It doesn't have to be a full simulation of the human body, but I don't see why something like this can't be done. VBS2's health system is far superior to ArmA's, so I would even be satisfied with that.

How to lower the ”shot on sight” mentality
Clumzy (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Alright, I wont shoot you. Where's the loot? "I'll take you to it." LATER... "Okay, here it is." Okay, thanks for showing me this. *shoots him anyways* I don't see how it would solve anything. -
The fact that your title is in all caps really helps your case.

So, what I've heard from ArmA II and A3 devs is that switching weapons while running is pretty much impossible in that engine. One would assume the same would go for DayZ. But, maybe not. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=21561

Never said you did, what I was implying was that people could use the exact same argument you did to justify everything I mentioned. Just because one thing is unrealistic in a game doesn't mean that other unrealistic things belong in there as well. Why would you want bigfoot in a game about zombies? It would be just about as out of place as a unicorn sighting, which is my main issue with this idea, not realism.
-
I know right, let's add unicorns that fly out of the sun every time your reload a weapon, and make the sky rainbow-coloured, and have a 100 meter tall robot that follows me around and quotes Jack Nicholson. If zombies are in the game, that means all this is fair game, right?
-
Words like 'fair' and 'balanced' shouldn't ever be used to describe DayZ, because it is meant to be a harsh and unforgiving game. Of course it's easier to be a bandit, everyone who tries to be a hero knows that. It's always going to be like that and it always should be, or else the hero skin would lose all meaning (not that I support the humanity system in any way, shape of form). DayZ shouldn't have any kind of balance, guns or humanity or vehicles, because it's not that kind of game. And furthermore, I love seeing heroes and bandits together, it's like a buddy cop movie.

Skins will not be in the Standalone, we will have separate articles of clothing that we can pick and choose.

Why are you people posting in here, this thread was made six months ago, before radios were announced to replace side chat. Just let it die

Maybe something along the lines of Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. You have one or maybe two attacks (e.g. stab and slash). Stab does more damage but is slower and harder to hit with, slash is fast and easy to land hits with but would only really be a guaranteed kill if it hit the neck. Right click is your block, but you have to be looking in the right spot (where the knife is) to get the block. Maybe a quick animation for actually landing the (final) stab, so it feels more like the knife is actually in them and not just floating around in the same general space as the player model. Hitting the slash button while behind them and looking at their neck could do a throat cutting animation. Not really an instakill button, but animations can improve things.

I could have sworn that it used to be written right on the front page, "You are one of the immune", or something. Well, time to rethink my whole life...
