[HELP] 112555 [Beta] FAILED To Install Battleye...
hogscraper replied to WutIsUrPrblmM8's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
No need to delete anything. I had this same issue, tried multiple things then started going through the folders looking at the files. I went into the BEsetup folder, ran Setup_BattlEyeARMA2OA.exe and it created a couple text files. Then I went back to my main arma2OA folder and ran ArmA2OA_BE.exe as administrator. This opened the same window as before but this time it said successful instead of failed. Make sure you don't close this window as a few seconds later it will finish up the install and launch the game. Launching the game normally worked fine after doing that. -
Gonna say fine as is.

What would suggest for a guy with my programming experience?
hogscraper replied to MrJoeDirty's topic in Technology/Programming
If you have the basics down, it depends on how fast you think you can go. If you are looking to expand on the basics, and you own an Arma game you can get into writing missions for it. The structure is basic scripting but it gives a fun way to add practice using programming ideas like variable usage, loop logic, function calls, pretty much all the basic stuff. You can also skip the arma script and use java to do the same thing. http://opendayz.net/threads/resources-introduction-to-scripting.11313/ The other great part of something like this approach and you get to see some of how a game works with assets. A great way to get a boost in your knowledge is to pick a language and find an open source project that you can download and pick apart. I learned basic C# reading and making simple programs but really increased what I know by getting a couple server emulators/shards for games I had, finding ones that were open source and starting at the beginning of the code. Just don't aim too big too fast. Its those small projects that you skip that end up having four lines of code that you later write 50 trying to accomplish. Find some coding websites for the language you choose and subscribe. Tons of good sites that have code snippets and small programs people are working on out there. -
I wouldn't want to see friendly npc's but they either need to up the player count to 150 or add some hostile npcs. I played the other day on a 60 person experimental server, full up, and from Berezino to Kamenka along the coast then north to Stary Sobor I saw a grand total of two players, both in Elektro. Sadly they had hatchets and thought it would be funny to try their hands at No Pants in Elektro! and got shot in the face before I could ask where the hell everyone was. The last time I played Epoch, though, I was in seven hostile encounters in two hours building a base in the middle of nowhere. The bigger problem is people either want to play house along the coast or camp a tree near one of the military drops and it got stale real fast.

gameservers.com not allowing certain text in server names?
hogscraper replied to real meatshield's topic in General Discussion
The error he gives shows a blanket statement, that was probably automated. It doesn't say its checking for 'kick for' it just says kick. I played on Kick Ass Noobs' servers across several games and that would be likely be changed if they wanted to do Dayz. They really should be manually checking for false positives. If it happens with the same customer multiple times just ban them but still they are customers that shouldn't be screwed over. Had it happen to me on a different game. Paid up for the month a couple days before when I didn't just have my name changed but my server turned off and my contract voided because the server read 'Welcome to Hogscraper's" and found rape. I ended up getting my server back a week later but if they were bothering to check, it wouldn't have happened and I wouldn't have changed providers. I don't even bother using my in game name on forums any more because a lot of them flag it as inappropriate. -
Hardcore: Sawed-off shotty to the chest kills guy who shot my brother
hogscraper replied to consortiumczar's topic in Gallery
Lol the best? "All he had to do was cooperate in the beginning" "I think he knows we're hostile" "Shoot him in the back when he tries to leave" Two v 1. You threatened him, played the bitch card by shooting at him as he went away, chased him down and talked shit to him. Took a video and posted it. Lol words and actions of loser douche bags. -
PRIVE PVE LOOTING SERVER RENTING SLOTS
hogscraper replied to ryankaehler's topic in Server Advertisement
So much fail in one post. -
Well, there's a reason only eight servers are running Fallujah right now, most people don't like the map. I never could get into any of the desert maps. Same goes for Arma 3. Been a long time since I preordered a game and never played more than a few hours after final release. Desert or dray and barren environments are garbage for video games. Almost no vegetation so the landscape looks really, really bad and mostly empty. Same went for Far Cry 2. Never played again after the first ten minutes.

Cannot jump and my friend cant walk. HELP!
hogscraper replied to Lesrah's topic in New Player Discussion
Does your friend have broken legs? If he is randomly hissing or groaning he might. When a character has a broken leg he can stand up, but when trying to walk he just falls down. No idea why your guy can't vault. Have you tried binding vault to another key and see if that works? -
I thought the game was supposed to have taken place right after the apocalypse started and not ten-twenty years after. Why should there be any devastation at all outside what wrecks and things you see in the mod? Its not like Chernarus is the USA with a giant military force that could destroy half the buildings in their country in a few days. They probably don't have American rage that would cause a huge part of their population to burn down every major city for the hell of it at the first sign of social chaos. Realistically speaking Chernarus is right about where it should be immediately after minus a burned down house here and there in the cities. Once they add vehicles I assume they will start working on more of the ground clutter that the mod has, (barricades of broken cars in the roads, trash, dead bodies, etc). I can see where someone would rather be playing during day 500 instead of day zero but that's not what Dayz is about. I also hope beyond hope that they will update their A2 tools finally so I can start importing some of the maps I made for epoch. There are a bunch of good maps to play on in the mod and I expect that eventually we can do this with the SA.

I still can't see why you weren't using your sights. Saying I didn't want to switch back and forth doesn't make sense. Its a right click. Its cool that you stuck around instead of logging out, though. Props for that.

Your poll is very narrow minded. In a lot of situations when I'm bored I'll just follow another player and see what they get into. I'm basically playing as overwatch and if someone messes with them I will kill that other person. You also need an option for when some asshole tries to play tough guy and give me orders. It usually results in me shooting them in the face. I approached them to start a conversation, not to be talked to like I give a shit about my character. Tell me to lower my weapon while your's is raised and I'm already firing after lower comes out of your mouth. At this point I have three deaths and around twenty kills from people like that. I love standing over their corpse and yelling at them for their stupidity.

This Game is Being Advertised as an MMO Right? Char Bound to Server.
hogscraper replied to gjhook's topic in Suggestions
While the idea of a public hive is pretty cool, its pointless in practice except to give people an easy out. It does nothing to foster any sort of feeling of community and that's what will give Dayz a longer shelf life. I was quite blown away the first time I played the mod on a private server. There weren't any free gear packages for donors, there weren't any abusive admins, it was a large group of people that enjoyed playing the game together. How else are you going to rally people to a threat? Oh, there's a dozen well armed people killing everyone on the coast? Form up a posse and try to give them a little of what they have been giving. You can't do that in SA on a public hive because most people are strangers and have no idea what's happening in the next town over. The chances of EVER meeting up with the same player twice without making arrangements before hand is nearly impossible playing on different servers. To me, when every encounter is with a stranger, it gets old fast. -
Sadly, with private servers, admins are the kings you must bow before. Either they're cool and you have fun or they are obnoxious assholes and you go play somewhere else. You can only report admins for abuse if they are running servers on the official hive.

How to avoid being killed by bandits?
hogscraper replied to tailgaterz69's topic in General Discussion
I like the run around like an idiot, bobbing and weaving then kill anyone dumb enough to not kill me with one or two shots. Haven't died in two weeks and have around 15 or so kills. Most people I run into can't head shot you unless you are standing still for a few seconds so don't stop moving until you have cover. -
Didn't they already add a fix for verifying that your pbos are correct? It doesn't make sense that they would verify buildings but nothing else. And if they did, someone needs to kick that programmer in the balls.

Base building looks pretty cool but dam what a horrible looking game. -
Have you ever killed your friend/teamkilled by accident
hogscraper replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I've introduced five new people to the mod in the last two weeks and have been killed three times by them. The first one screams into TS, "There's some guy dead in the street and he has an awesome gun! I'm grabbing that shit". I had pulled a dozen zombies off him and had dragged them into a house where I was killing them off with pistol headshots. He comes running in and says "let me help with this new gun!". I yelled not to fire but he mowed down everyone in the room with his new M249. The last time was laying in a small ditch waiting for a convoy of bandits to roll by and a different friend says, "oh cool, I can give you a blood bag" boom headshot, instant dead. As he's apologizing in TS the bandits had heard and drove over him and another guy we were with. -
You'd have to be able to clothe the zombie with some player gear to make it look better but this would be an awesome idea. Even it didn't move and was static somewhere it could be used for a lot of different things.

I've been in a few fights since the patch and haven't had any trouble getting to their gear. I have to hustle, no doubt, but still fairly easy to loot from the gun fights I've been in. The only one I missed out on was when a guy with a mosin tried to snipe me, I moved into a better position and got him with an M4. I didn't bother trying to loot him as I didn't want his gun and figured at best I might get a second can opener. I guess if it was close, you were bleeding and they were far away it might matter. I would love to see it just increased to maybe two or three minutes max, though. Makes people cherish their gear a little more if they can't easily spawn and get back to their corpse. Not sure what other good tradeoff could be made to keep that from happening and keep snipers from easy kills and easy loot.
-
Congrats to people who hated server hoppers, but was it worth it?
hogscraper replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Honestly I hope that the 60 seconds to loot a corpse stays in place. The mod is horrible at making people care about their characters. Oh, you died? Well ask your buddy with the helicopter to run you back to your gear and five minutes later its like the death never happened. Even if you are solo, that person is supposed to have died so the new one shouldn't have any idea where your old character died. And for killing people for loot? Man up, have some balls and try not using a sniper rifle and you can easily loot most players you kill within sixty seconds. Or maybe, act like trying everything in your power to keep your character alive isn't the furthest thing from your mind. I have only died a couple times in Dayz SA+mod in the last two months and only because I went looking for a fight. P.S. The timer is one of the best things to happen to the SA since it launched. Keep it in no matter what. -
So, the obligatory did you questions: Did you install a2, OA, OA beta and Dayz mod? Can you add the cd keys you got off Amazon to Steam? You have to download all four of those first, then run A2 until you get to the main menu then quit. Run OA all the way to the menu then quit. Sometimes, if you don't run them in exactly that way it will give you error messages. Run Dayz Commander, make sure that the directories are correct then click the Yellow button up top install/update. In the menu that pops up, verify that Arma and Dayz are up to date. There is a button to repair or install to the right that will fix any issues that came up during installation. Also, once you have them installed, right click in steam and verify local files. If you followed those steps exactly you should have all the right files, in all the right places and it should work just fine. Let us know if you were successful!

Dayz was designed to give people the freedom to do what they want. Many people who come to this game are sad, pathetic wastes of life who play only to troll people. They flock to Dayz because the game has so many ways for them to express their asshole side. Why do you think people nearly shit themselves when they removed AS50's and M107's from the mod? Not only could you kill from huge distances, you could even take down a helicopter full of people if you wanted. Why do you think people demand long range scopes at all for the guns? You definitely don't need them to deal with zombies. The trick is realizing that the game is what it is and dealing with it without allowing yourself to become like them or go play something else.

He seems to have a pretty good understanding that desync is causing rubberbanding. One is the cause and the other is the effect of what he's describing. Unless the prediction coding is so jacked up that the game, while perfectly synced with a client, randomlly thinks he is supposed to be 50m from where he actually is on his screen and then puts him back.
-
Is it true that more parts are going to be dealt with at client side rather than server side?
hogscraper replied to msy's topic in General Discussion
I've never cheated in any multiplayer game and could walk you through how cheats work at the code level in many games that rely heavily on a scripted language. Just because someone is smart and curious about how things work doesn't really mean anything. I've written Arma missions that were thousands of lines of code and contain a ton of things that could be used to cheat.
