Yea, those were cool bandits indeed.
-
One you missed is the 'take no chances and shoot you in the head before moving into loot your corpse' bandit. I definitely like that loot is so easy to find right now. Makes it much easier of a decision to just resist all people trying to push me around. I actually had one bandit kill his buddy a week ago. Two guys with M4s start yelling about get on the ground. I tell them I have nothing and they still yell. I figured I wasn't going to waste my time being handcuffed and messed with so I ran around one guy landing a couple punches. His buddy opened fire like an idiot and killed us both. Good times.

There's a huge difference between being lazy and choosing not to search the forums and skipping the entire section titled exactly what you are looking for. Considering by posting here you are part of this 'fucking awful community' I guess I was right all along and you agree with me. Thanks:)

There's a line that needs to be drawn but its up to the devs where they draw it. Personally I don't want to see free form bases in this game. Boarding up and fortifying houses would be much cooler. They would have to able to be broken into with the right tools but defending your shit is part of what made the mod fun. At this point, they have enough guns to last until the full release. So many other real features need to be added first. More zombies to start.

having more than one character. thoughts?
hogscraper replied to chewythefirst's topic in General Discussion
No. It would cause more problems than it would fix. Dayz has always been about having to put in effort to get where you want to go. You decided to play every day so you need to decide whether or not a twenty minute walk is worth playing with your friends when they eventually log in. We will have vehicles eventually so this really is just a temporary problem anyway. The problems that arise with multiple characters is that it completely changes the game for trolls. Lets say you and two friends are at NWAF when a larger group of people roll in. What happens if you each had four different characters, all geared and all in different places around the airfield? What's to keep you from logging out once you know where they are, logging back in and killing one or two from a distance. Logging in on another guy to kill a few more then back to your original character? Making choices that keep you from dying is a major part of the idea behind Dayz. What happens to that idea when people start making characters that don't ever move and exist only to hold a supplies? Like a tent that can't be raided it would break a huge part of the game. -
Does murder face increased negativity recently?
hogscraper replied to Element47's topic in General Discussion
OP is spot on that these threads have gone nuclear. KOS is also right that the devs basically set up a bloodbath in the making the way they released the SA and how they built the loot centers. I definitely think they have fixed this somewhat by moving all the spawns to the East coast but that might have only put a small dip in it. Right now there's nothing to do in the SA except gear up and kill. There aren't even enough zombies for all the bullets that spawn so players are using those bullets on the only other targets they find. A lot of new players come into the game expecting a zombie survival game and instead find an asshole surviving game. The same guy who server hopped for two minutes now acts like he must murder everyone in sight to protect his 'precious', but actually laying everywhere, gear. The guys who aren't exploiting are finding themselves shot for no reason so many of them take the shoot first play style. The SA has spiraled out of control pretty quickly and I'm not sure there is an immediate fix. Each new player that comes in will likely head to the forums to complain about it. People have the perception that they are coming into a video game version of The Walking Dead and instead find themselves in The Road. The biggest fix right now would be working out the code to get thousands of zombies into Chernarus. Give people reasons to fear firing off their guns in town and turn down the spawn of guns. -
At the expense of servers and cheaters.
hogscraper replied to SHAREN's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Most hacks for Dayz don't need the server files really. They didn't make a new engine so people that have hacked the previous games using the same engine just need to try out modified versions of what they already have and see what works. They could maybe do checksum reports for the server files to see if they have been changed but even if they have, that's only allowing players to hack on that one server. This type of problem can only be solved by the devs seeing/hearing about hacks in the community and reacting to them by trying to plug the holes in the code. Some things they can't plug and it will probably be up to server admins to deal with. In a game like this ESP hacks generally are made by hijacking the data coming from the server which wouldn't be affected by hiding the files. They created a small bubble of information around each player that tells the client about all of the items and people within a certain distance from them. If a player can hijack that data with another program reading the data stream they can translate it into some kind of graphical overlay that shows them where all these things are. These types of hacks have been around since multiplayer games have existed and scanning for programs that can read that data stream is about the only way to combat them other than having players report them or an admin catching them in the act. That's why private hives became so popular in the mod. Hackers might show up but they were dealt with right there and their damage was minimized. In the end, though, most hacks come down to having a reporting system in place and having people that can go over these and ban people. This takes a lot of time and effort so most game companies don't bother with the vast majority of hackers and it almost always falls on the individual server admins to deal with. I used to have a couple Counter Strike servers and was part of a kind of conspiracy behind the scenes. We never let people know this at the time, but we had a network of close to fifty servers that shared videos/.dem files of the people we banned and would ban those players across all of these servers. It was crazy how many people I had in my servers' ban lists from that large a sample size.- 1 reply

Sorry but I think the minimum is a dual core, P4 is single core right? Don't think you'll be playing the SA on that thing with those stats.

Why are my shots impacting the ground infront of me?
hogscraper replied to Deadend197's topic in General Discussion
So you are being attacked and are worried that the bandits will be alerted at your gun fire, in the middle of a gun fight... You're picking off fresh spawns in Elektro, don't lie. lol just kidding, I never implied that you were the reason they might be faking this to cut down kos so why did you assume I was? Are you feeling guilty for all the fresh spawn blood on your hands? -
In the mod, if it was within the draw distance you could easily see it as they stand out like a sore thumb sitting next to dark trees. No matter which way you placed them there were very few places you could put one where they weren't easily spotted from the air at some angle. That's all most people used helicopters for in the mod. Find a chopper or repair one, use it to find any other aircraft on the server then once you have a monopoly on fast transport use them to hunt down and rob other peoples' camps. The only thing I can see them doing to help, (if they add helis), would be to put in some camo netting of some kind that blends in perfectly with the ground. Even without helis that kind of netting would be awesome.

The USAF conducted studies where they flashed an image of a plane in a dark room and asked their pilots to identify what they saw. They were able to correctly tell them what they were seeing down to 1/220 of a second. That means if you played a movie at 220 fps and inserted a single frame, these guys could tell the difference. The human eye doesn't see anything in fps, its a continual stream of information where high speed items get blurred because we can't consciously separate every micro second of what we are seeing. That being said, 30 fps is not unplayable or even outside of perfectly fine to the vast majority of people who haven't convinced themselves they need more. If the game was able to somehow show you something more at 120 fps than at 30 I would think you could make an argument for being pissed when you don't get 120 but it doesn't. Its not that the image is or isn't smoother but whether or not anything in game is moving fast enough to worry about what's happening in that 1/30 of a second time frame.

I played on a 40 man server that was usually full and found three places that I placed tents that were never disturbed and none of those was north of Krasnostav. The biggest thing I found was plan small and think about how a player will get from one area to another. While there might be a player checking grid by grid behind every rock and tree most people won't. Most players have a destination in mind and are not likely to take certain routes to get there. One of those three spots is no longer an option because they added some new buildings to the map right where a small clump of trees used to be. It took a while to set that tent and I lost a few doing it but once set there was zero ability to see it unless you were trying to pass through a small area that a player couldn't possibly get through. At this point, though, server hopping might actually extend your base's life. Since most people seem to want to jump from Balota to Balota or from NWAF to NWAF they are spending even less time out in the map exploring. There aren't any helicopters either so that will greatly cut down on how much ground a person can cover looking for bases. Hopefully they never add helis as they end up only being used to find camps to raid. Having all buildings being able to be enterable might allow you to even set up a base in a house in some out of the way village that has little chance to be messed with. Lots of cool possibilities depending on what type of base building/storage options they add.

Player Logging is REALLY killing gameplay
hogscraper replied to crypticsilence's topic in New Player Discussion
Meh, you failed and deserve nothing for your wasted bullets. I don't pick fights, I have never combat logged and am 5 deaths, 33 kills and around 10 battleloggers against loser assholes trying to take me out over the last week. The worst part about players like you is aiming and killing someone with a few bullets is pretty damn easy. Crying about it just exposes your inability to kill people without spraying bullets everywhere. When I meet fresh spawns and give them some supplies to stay alive I try to find out what they think about kos. If they seem like they just want to explore I always tell them to log out, if they can, when someone starts shooting at them. Screw losers just shooting on site because they can. Hopefully they don't bother to fix this issue until they start adding in tons more zombies. Right now there isn't an environmental reason not to fire every bullet you can at other players and most losers choose to do that. -
I'm reminded of another thread just made where some new player demands to know why people are irritated that they didn't search the damn forum before wasting the top posts slots on the right with yet another question thread that has been answered here before. You could have at least noticed there is a bug tracker section on the forums.

Why are my shots impacting the ground infront of me?
hogscraper replied to Deadend197's topic in General Discussion
Are you wasting bullets on zombies like a super genius? That's a brilliant way to prepare yourself for when they actually increase the number of zombies. Or alert every other player in town that there's someone nearby that needs killing. Sorry I assumed you weren't that bad of a player. It could also be that I never said everyone 'who shots' is KOS'ing but rather if they made 'shot'ing appear broken maybe less people would attempt to 'shot' other players in the face. -

ooor maybe they figured out how to limit kos by making it look like a bug. -
I'll come back to this thread when its in Beta and has more to offer me as a consumer.

Why do people think there would be more civilian weapons than military?
hogscraper replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
I was just trying to help you not sound illiterate. Assault rifles are never just semi-auto. Never. I understand the word semantics and chose to call you out for not knowing what you're talking about. I would offer the same correction to someone calling a G18 a revolver. If he then went on to say SEMANTICS! when I pointed out a G18 is not and can never be a revolver I would laugh at is poor attempt at a cover-up when he says oh I just use revolver to describe any sort of handgun. -

There's concrete right out front of the hangars but the runway is that giant field out front. I did just check and the SA has turned the field into a paved runway. -
You can also download Fraps and use the overlay to see what your FPS is running at. If its a really low number you might have to turn everything in visual settings down and go from there. It almost sounds like what my old pc did in Arma2 when I tried to turn all of the graphical settings to max.

hogscraper replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
No assault rifles in the world are just semi auto. They are either semi+burst or semi+full. That's what makes them assault rifles by definition. Sorry but people using words incorrectly when they are attempting to make another person feel stupid needs addressed. Its like using bad grammar while trying to mock someone for poor spelling. -

Since when was Balota paved? I have stayed away from there in the SA so maybe that's been changed from the mod. I wasn't referencing Balota specifically since it does have a base down by the road, I was talking about you claiming that all airports have a police presence and that meaning M4 should be a necessity. Nearly all of the ones in Europe I've been to, 80+, had zero police outside of a local with a pistol that had an office there and those were rare. Even in Columbia where the military would always be there to greet you they didn't have bases. They came in a truck and left the same way with nothing stored there. I think most people are trying to equate real life with what the creators of Arma did in order to make more content. Balota looks more like it was a county seat/airport that was taken over shortly after the shit hit the fan than something that would actually exist somewhere. -

hogscraper replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
Um, by the definition a rifle isn't an assault rifle unless it has select fire capability. That means semi-auto and at least burst fire but mostly it means semi and auto firing capabilities. You're confusing assault rifles with the American usage of the term 'assault weapon' which is a semi-auto rifle with certain characteristics of assault rifles like larger magazines, folding stocks or muzzle suppression systems. -

hogscraper replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
I don't think you've been to many airfields before. Almost no place I've ever landed with a dirt field has had any kind of police presence. Even in military states its rare to find more than an armed guard with a pistol at some hole in the wall airfield with a dirt landing strip. I also doubt that if a jail had 1 m4 it would still be there after the shit hit the fan. It would likely be on the floor of some house where the cop died or in a burned up car somewhere. You might find some ammo there but even that is unlikely since the cops who worked there would be the first people to loot the place. It would more than likely all be laying where ever the cop who took it died. -

Not sure where I fall on this one because I thought this was supposed to be right after the outbreak hit so it would seem like a lot of stuff might still be on the bases. Either way I'm sure that most of the good weapons would have already been taken. Since they wouldn't despawn in reality you would assume, though, that even if every single gun was taken from the armories around Chernarus that they would still be lootable somewhere on the map. Most would naturally be laying around bases or just outside but there could easily be some soldiers who took their guns home to defend their families. As more soldiers fall I doubt there would be much order left at the end and I doubt most soldiers wouldn't be using everything they have available to them. While this would easily explain why there are military grade weapons all around I still think they shouldn't have certain types of guns for balance reasons.
